Margaret Rose wants more in her 1940s life than being a mother and a housewife as her controlling father wants. She defies her father and elopes with a much older man before he enters the war only to find herself quickly widowed and pregnant. She finds that no one will hire a single mother and leaves her limited ways to support her small family. She enters tries to train to become a nurse when she meets and marries a new man only to find herself in another bad circumstance.
This is a great story of a young woman would dreams of more for herself than a society allows for her. She continues to work through her struggles to reach her ambitions and to be able to provide for her family without having to rely on anyone.
