Ancient Reflections: A Mythic Trilogy by Tamara Agha-Jaffar – Review by Shelly Kittell

Ancient Reflections: A Mythic TrilogyAncient Reflections: A Mythic Trilogy by Tamara Agha-Jaffar

I found this book to be an interesting take on the myths from the female viewpoint. The author felt that the woman’s POV has been stifled and she is correct on that point. I very much enjoyed reading this fiction novel witch 3 stories based on the myths: Homeric Hymn to Demeter, the Odyssey, and the Epic of Gilgamesh. It was different to read them with a feminine view. I had never quite realized it had ever been the other way. The stories were written in such a way that the classic of the myth was still there but it felt modern enough to keep you reading. I’m glad that the cast of characters was included for each story. I had forgotten most of my mythology. The stories were easy-to-read. It’s a book I would definitely make sure to have my teen read or young adult read when they hit this in school. This other perspective will be nice to just have. It will also be a nice read to sneak in amongst all the boring dry. An enjoyable read that everyone may like.
