My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Thorfinn and the Witch’s Curse is the first book in the Forerunner Saga series by Jay Veloso Batista. This is epic fantasy done well- with action, adventure, ghosts, Norse mythology, Vikings, curses, history, the supernatural, agendas, danger, paranormal elements, drama, challenges, mystery, fight scenes, detailed and descriptive storytelling, creative worldbuilding, and is told from multiple POV’s (which gives a great perspective of what is happening).
I came into this series a little backwards, having started on book three by accident, which proved to be a bit of a challenge for me. But I really was intrigued by the premise and after discovering that I was reading the third book, I went back to the beginning to read the first two books just to see if they would help me better appreciate the story. And I am glad that I did, as I did enjoy the story more, and felt that it helped ground me in the series better. There were still a lot of characters remember, and some interesting, if not difficult to pronounce names- but I didn’t have as much of an issue with it this time around.
As with the rest of the series, it is apparent that the author is very passionate about the subject matter and his story-telling- it’s evident that he put a lot of blood, sweat, heart, soul, and research into his work- which resulted in the rich, vibrant, and dynamic tale.
Happy Reading!
Thank you, Jay Veloso Batista.
