Ashes (Modern-Day Fairy Tale Book 1) by MK Harkins – Review by Breanne Christian

Ashes (Modern-Day Fairy Tale, #1)Ashes by M.K. Harkins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ashley Adams suffered misfortune after misfortune after her father passed away, leaving her with her evil stepmother and stepsisters, like a modern-day Cinderella. She was forced to work at her stepmother’s mortuary, giving her a less than popular reputation at Redmond High School. Ashley’s father left her with a trust, but not without a clause included by her stepmother. The clause, to graduate on time, was a no brainer for a student with a GPA of 4.0, or so Ashley thought. To add to her plight, popstar Harry James starts attending Redmond High School as part of his probation. Between her mixed feelings for Harry and her evil stepmother, Ashley struggles with keeping herself together. With the help of her best friend Laura, she just might make it, or will she?
Ashes is full of relatable characters and feelings. Through each heartbreak Ashley endures, the reader can feel along with her. The cute romance that occurs throughout the book, as well as an unraveling mystery, makes for a great read by itself. The introduction of fairy godmothers adds to its endearing traits. If you are looking for a fast-paced, cute romance/mystery, look no further. I did not want to put it down.
