True Colors is the first book in the Landry’s True Colors series by Krysten Lindsay Hager. It is a cute, sweet, YA/middle grade/teen, coming of age story- with teenage angst/drama, jealousy, insecurities, fear, friendships, jealousy, and expectations. This genre is Ms. Hager’s wheelhouse and is something she does quite well.
It is definitely a YA story- showcasing teenage issues like pressure to conform, living up to expectations, teen angst/drama/insecurities and fitting in.
As I have mentioned before, I do enjoy YA stories, being a more ‘mature’ reader, I prefer my reading material to be a little ‘meatier’- but still enjoy exploring YA stories as they are usually fairly light and easy to read and make a great break from my heavier reads. This is definitely the case here- a nice story with just enough angst and drama to keep things interesting and very well suited for the younger reader.
I will be continuing the series and am interested to see what happens in Book #2…
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Krysten Lindsay Hager!
