Fall to Pieces by Becky Flade – Review by Angela Shirley
Fall to Pieces by Becky Flade
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Detective Alexandra Danvers is a mess, she is just trying to survive each day, but when she is dropped into a murder of a young boy her thoughts are directed to her past and that is not a nice place to be.
Detective Xavier Knight has a job to do, not only is his assigned to Detective Danvers to assess her capacity to do her job but his also has a murder to solve, but as he investigates the murder further he starts to see the cracks appear within Danvers, but when a suspect from her past comes into the light can he save her from herself and his heart and his career in the processes
This is the second book in this series, and it does not disappoint, the characters are rich and well developed, which when you read believe you are part of the story and want to get to know them more.
As you read you understand why Lex is so damaged with life and her heart, with constant reminders everyday of the struggle she is at breaking point. As the book progresses you get to see the grit and determination that Lexi is not going to give in and that she is a survivor and will not let the darkness in. Xavier’s character although shifty at the beginning, I enjoyed discovering the overall admiration he had for Lexi in the end and that he sacrificed his career to help her.
I do have to say there are some triggers in this story regarding, abuse, suicide and dark depression but although these subject matters are hard to read sometimes, this author respects these subject matters with her writing, and you become invested in there stories.
I can’t wait to read the next boo in this series.
