Finding Your Heart by Nadia Han – Review by Jennifer Ramos

Finding Your Heart: A Journal for Discovering Your HeartFinding Your Heart: A Journal for Discovering Your Heart by Nadia Han
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a beautiful journey into self-discovery and seeking your heart’s desires! I would recommend purchasing the actual journal/book as you use it for yourself or as a gift to others. This journal gives one the opportunity to write their musings, collect items as part of their personal artwork and even some coloring. Journaling is such a great outlet for destressing, reconnecting and refocusing on what’s important. Focusing elements of the past and present to transform into a better future. Great to do for a few minutes each day or even as a weekend self-discovery journal. With the holidays coming up, this would be such a great gift to give to loved ones or even a random gift to someone you don’t know well.

Detective Dylan and the Case of the Missing Mail (A Youth Sleuths Chapter Book Series) by MJ Murray. This is such a good book for ages 7-10 and beginning to read chapter books. I love it so much and my 5 and 11 year old nephew both enjoyed it. The 5 year old especially loved the pictures. Its the story of Dylan who loves mysteries. He finally gets his long awaited package he’s been dying to receive, a detective kit. He and his sister Emily who doesn’t ever quit talking and his dog they set out to solve the first neighborhood crime, Mrs. Lane’s missing mail. Lost and Found (Logan McKenna Mystery Book 9) by Valerie Davisson. I love this series and each book I read becomes my new favorite. It can be read as a standalone but of course I always think they are best read in order. Logan and Sam are back and this time its in the crabbing industry, which if very cut throat, and of course a dead body. When Sam’s friend is accused of the murder they have to work very fast to clear his name. This case is baffling to Logan because the more she digs the less she finds and she becomes even more confused as to what has happened. Her gut is telling her that something is not right but she continues to try to clear Sam’s friend even though she feels he may not be innocent. Will Logan and Sam figure out this case before its too late and their friend goes to jail or will Logan’s instincts be correct once again. Read this fast paced, thriller to find out!

Lost and Found: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 9 (Logan McKenna Series)Lost and Found: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 9 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book 9 in the series and can be read as a stand alone book. This whole series is made so you can enjoy reading them in order (for deeper character development) or to read them by themselves. You won’t feel like you are missing anything by reading them out of order or as a stand alone. I am reading each book in the series and I am remind them quicker and quicker with each book. The twists that each book takes is amazing and the character growth is par to none. I like reading about a string female that goes after what she wants and is shown as a protector of those she loves. This books mystery is a kidnapping. As you can expect from this author the scenes feel like they are jumping off the pages and you are watching a movie instead of reading a book. I am not normally a mystery/thriller reader but this series is really good. I found myself trying to solve the mystery with the characters and seeing if what I thought happened really happened. I am not so great at the solving of things but am loving the twists and turns that this book takes. If you have an afternoon to just get lost into a complete mystery that will have y0u second guessing yourself, this is the book for you.

I absolutely loved this book!
What would you do if your ex husband invited you to his destination wedding and your kids are assuming you’re coming and with a date? Well read this and find out what Olivia does.

Olivia is headed to a wedding, meeting with a fake date who just so happens to be her daughters best friends father, Roman. He’s a hockey player and gorgeous as sin. What starts off as 2 strangers they quickly realize why not make the most of it and fall hard along the way.

I laughed and cried and cheered them on the whole book.
This was my first read of this duo together but I hope they write more as this was flawless!

Whisper Creek (A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 7)Whisper Creek by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Book 7 in the Logan McKenna Series is just as amazing as book one. You don’t need to read every book in the series and you can start at any book you want. However, once you read one of these books you will be going to read them all. The crazy twists and turns that this book takes will leave you on the edge of your seat till the very end of the book. Just when I thought I was starting to figure out who did what, I was so wrong. I didn’t see the twist coming and that is what really made this book amazing. I love being able to be surprised. Having read the other books int he series, I was really starting to wonder if/when things where going to start repeating themselves. That has NOT happened yet. Logan’s character in this series grows from book to book. She is amazing at what she does and how she just dives into every mystery. She is a supportive friend and very protective of those she loves. This book had me turning pages almost faster than I could read them. I needed to know what happened and then I hit the twist in the book and I didn’t put it down. If you feel like you could be a detective or solve crimes this series is for you. You will constantly be trying to figure out right along with the characters. I can’t wait for the next one.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is the 6th in the series and it does not disappoint. The imagery that I have come to love from this author is in full force in this book. Every book in this series can be read as a stand alone but I HIGHLY stress that you read them in order because they are amazing. You will also see the amazing character growth that the author does with Logan. She has bought a house with her significant other and they are working on fixing it up. Then she is meeting her half sister. Then a murder happens. Logan finds herself digging in again. The thing that blows me away is that all of this is happening at the same time. Logan does not live a dull life and she is such a strong female character that I am not used to reading about. I love it. I love that as a reader I am able to follow her journey through things. These books do not disappoint and keeps me turning pages to see what is going to happen. Will she get along with her half-sister, will she be able to solve this murder, will she fix her house up. Its just amazing to me to see how Logan handles everything in her life and still continues to live her life. I am excited to jump into the next book to see what happens with Logan and how bad a$$ she is going to be.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am just blown away by the way the author is able to describe the scenes in this book. It makes it feel like you are watching a movie or are even in the book yourself. That being said this is the 5th book in the series and each book can be read as a stand alone. I would recommend reading them from the beginning because you are able to see the growth of the main character, Logan. This book takes us to a vacation that Logan, her boyfriend, and adult daughter go on. Personally speaking, I am now wanting to go on a vacation. Maybe, without the mystery in the book but it would definitely make things a little more exciting. This book was a quick read because I just didn’t put it down. I kept turning pages to see what was going to happen and who did what. It is always interesting to see how Logan get involved in all of these adventures. She by any means does not lead a dull life. If you are looking for a quick escape that will have you thinking you could solve any mystery thrown at you, this is your series.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book 4 in the series. This book can be read as a stand alone and you won’t feel as if you have missed anything. Each book has their own adventure/mystery. I would recommend reading them in order though, because you get the whole depth of the character development that happens in the stories. Plus each adventure/mystery is amazing and you don’t want to miss anything that happens. Each book deals with someone in the main characters life. This one is her neighbor. This books deals with domestic abuse. Her neighbor has been in hiding and then is found but the main character gets involved in the danger because she might know something. This book had me turning pages to see what was going to happen, who was going to do what, how was this going to end. These thing kept my attention and had me finishing the book in record time. I have noticed that, I am reading each book in this series faster than the last and I am so excited to be able to go straight to the next one. You will find yourself getting submerged into the plot and actually for a but I thought I could be a detective and figure things out. These feelings that you get when reading this book is what us going to make you want to read the next.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

We are in the third book of this series and they just keep getting better. I know that sounds like what everyone is writing but it is true. There is more background information given in this book than the last but it doesn’t feel as though you are reading the same thing again if you have read the other books in the series. If you haven’t and are just starting with this book it will give you some insight as to what the characters are going through and what has happened. I like that the author does this so anyone can start the series with any book. However, I feel like to get the most out of each book starting at the beginning would be the best to get everything you can out of it. In this book we get to know the main characters daughter. We also get to know sea otters. I know weird but it works in this book and actually really gave me some emotions I was not expecting in this book. There is the adventure and mystery that I have come to love with this author and this series. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I am loving to see what happens next and what adventures/mysteries we will go on in each book.

This is the second book in the series and it is better than the first. I feel like this will be a common theme with these books. I was excited to see what adventure we would get in this book. I was not disappointed by any means. An explosion, what a way to create some drama and mystery. Then the author adds in another element of the Vet. It is like getting two stories in one but the way the author has merged them is flawless. It is amazing. This book grips you from the start. It is written so well that you actually connect with the main character. She is amazing and I am not sure anyone can resist liking her. This book has it all the mystery, the multiple points of view, excitement, and has you turning pages as fast as you can. This series just flies off the pages and I can’t wait to see what happens next. That said there is amazing character growth from book one to book two. I love seeing characters evolve.

This is the first book in this series. I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this book and to say that I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. Well, I am not sure you could say pleasantly surprised since I didn’t have any idea what I was getting into. The way the author writes this book just draws you in. It gives you a great background so you instantly feel connected to the main character. You go through the emotions that she goes through. Her friends are there to help her rebuild and start over. I immediately wanted to be their friends. This is how you can tell great writing, if you feel as if you are one of the group or want to be one of the group. What happens when there is a dead body and the main characters friend is being looked at? This is exactly how things end up. She is a strong female in this book and she decides that she needs to help her friend. This is a series and I feel like we are going to see amazing growth with this character. I can’t wait to see the journey she takes and if her super sleuthing will help her friend. I am also wanting her to find love but that is the romantic in me. She isn’t in the market for that in this book but it is a series so never say never.

Forest Park: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 2 (The Logan McKenna Series) by Valerie Davisson – Review by Kirsten Berkebile

This is book #2. I unfortunately read the series out of order. I really wished I hadn’t but it is what it is. Logan McKenna is visiting Portland for work. She meets several people and of course someone dies, however there is another whole story going on during this one. I kinda of got lost within the stories. I was trying to figure out how they connected and how the title was incorporated into the story. I eventually did understand why the other story was going on and how it connects with the mystery of who killed the victim. What I don’t understand is why Ben’s story hasn’t been told and what her relationship with him has to do with the troubles she finds herself in by being nosy. While I do have many questions, which may or may not be answered, I do know that I couldn’t put this book down until I finished it. There are moments where I got lost and there are moments that are very sad but overall this was a good book. I still want to know more about Ben and his past for some reason.

Lies That Bind (Logan McKenna Series Book 6) by Valerie Davisson – Review by Kirsten Berkebile

This is book #6. Just like all the books I have read so far, I can’t seem to put it down. There are so many new characters in this one. I especially like that Logan finally has met her half sister. She and her guy (Ben) bought a house on the Oregon Coast, they are fixing up. However, during this renovation they discover some things that may hide hints to the murder of Charlotte Collins and maybe even more. The details of Charlotte’s murder is a bit hidden so in true fashion, Logan has to get involved. Of course this time she is taking her half-sister Olivia with her. Can they find out who murdered Charlotte Collins or is her death a mystery? Continue the series to find out!!!

Logan McKenna is this amazing woman who tends to stick her nose into some rather dangerous situations but she doesn’t realize that its dangerous until its almost too late. I really wished I had started with Shattered when I started reading the series. Each character has a specific role to play in the telling of this story. This is where Logan finds out about a few things that are life changing. Including a Viking of a man named Ben. My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was my first venture into the world of the Grimm Wolves. Although I was clearly missing some history, it was easy to catch on to the characters and their places. Excellent story.

Celestina “Celee” is finally escaping her past with a plan. She has run away with a biker. This is going to work. Now if she can just find a way to stay ahead of those hunting her, she will be okay.

Frank or Dingo is that biker. They met online and he fell hard. Now that he has his Celee within his grasp, he is not letting go. He will do anything to protect her, even risk his patch. Frank is just a prospect with the Grimm Wolves. This could cost him everything. The Grimm Wolves have become his family, since his birth family was a nightmare.

As Frank and Celee grow closer, so does the threat to them and the club. To Celee’s surprise, the Grimm Wolves help protect her every step of the way. The biggest surprise is when her cousin, Shadow, comes to aid in the plan to keep her safe. When it all goes down, Celee and Frank discover strengths they didn’t know they had and realize that family is more than just biology.

This book does not disappoint from the beginning until the end. Action and excitement from the start. Another amazing story from this author.

This was the first book by this author but I will definitely be checking out more. I’m also new to the M/M stories no matter what the genre so it’s like a whole new world is opening up to me. The story is told from the dual points of view of Mordecai and Lucifer. In my personal opinion it doesn’t always work but it did seem to enhance this story. Lucifer is new to Eden Cove and is eager to find out the mysteries surrounding the manor. He sets out to uncover these secrets and meets Mordecai. Mordecai doesn’t like that someone has invaded their privacy, but they are missing link to something and Lucifer may be it. This was a good and quick read that could have gone on for several more chapters. Even so the author got her point across and told a full story that keeps you entertained from page one.

About C.A. King

I was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of my mother, father and husband within three years of each other; all to cancer. 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss I felt, left its mark on my psyche.

Depression takes up a lot of my life. Reading and writing are the only things I have found that help (in connection with regular medication), even if only for a short time. To escape to a different world can make a big difference in my mood in real time.

To put things in perspective, when I was at my lowest point, I couldn’t open mail, talk on the phone, or even drive to the store. Walls of sadness surrounded me. As they closed in, tears would fall. There didn’t need to be a reason or trigger.

People ask me why I started writing. My answer is simple: I wanted to create a world into which other people with similar problems could escape. I wanted to share the one place that had helped me for many years.

I have always said that as long as one person finds a little bit of happiness out of my books, I am, in my opinion, an accomplished author. The same is true for every writer out there. Please don’t ever let anyone tell you differently.

I read books as well as write them and have visited the worlds many different authors have created. Those worlds not only make me feel better, but give me the strength to face real life again. I want to thank everyone who writes—I want them to know they are making a difference.

Carmen has spent most of her life with ink on her fingers and a dangerously high pile of books and newspapers by her side. She has worked as a newspaper reporter on two continents and always dreamt of becoming a novelist and screenwriter. When she found herself crouched under her dining table, typing away on a novel between two earthquakes in Christchurch, New Zealand, she realised she was hooked for life. The shaken but stirring novel made it to the longlist of the Mslexia competition, and her next book and first mystery, The Case Of The Missing Bride, was a finalist in the Malice Domestic competition in a year without a winner. Since then she has penned several more cozy mysteries, including the Jack and Frances series set in the 1930s and the paranormal cozy Genie and Adriana Darling mysteries. Carmen now lives in Italy with her human and her four-legged family.

Where the Ocean Meets the Sky (The Ocean Series) by A.R. Hadley

Where the Ocean Meets the Sky (The Ocean Series) by A.R. Hadley
Genre – Literary Fiction
Page Count – 867
Cover Designer – Emily Wittig

A woman grieving the loss of a loved one. A man carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. Does one fateful summer really have the power to change everything?

Rising photographer Annie Baxter is ready for a fresh start when she makes her way from New York to the sparkly sands of South Beach. A recent college graduate, she has no plans other than to distract herself with sun and surf, pictures and friends.
Then a man named Cal Prescott steps in front of her lens…
When he first spots Annie on the stairs of his best friends’ home, he’s enamored.
It doesn’t matter if they only have the summer. Or if twenty years separate them. They soon find that nothing — not temporary circumstances, panic attacks, or an age gap — can keep them from starting what their hearts desire.

Follow Annie and Cal on a journey of love, loss, and what it means to give up defining themselves.

Author Note: Previously published in 2018 as The South Beach Connection Trilogy: Landslide, Wanderlust, and ContinuumWhere the Ocean Meets the Sky combines those three books into one, as the author originally intended. Although heavily edited, combined, and relaunched since their initial release, the overall story remains. Literary fiction meets contemporary romance — a love made in the stars. A connection not to be forgotten.

200,000-words — over 800 pages. Part of the two-book series: The Ocean Series. Either book may be read first. The reader must choose. This is the main title. Contains graphic content that may trigger some readers.

A.R. Hadley writes imperfectly perfect sentences by the light of her iPhone.

She loves the ocean.

Chocolate.

Her children.

And Cary Grant.

She annoys those darling little children by quoting lines from Back to the Future, but despite her knowledge of eighties and nineties pop culture, she was actually meant to live alongside the Lost Generation after the Great War and write a mediocre novel while drinking absinthe with Hemingway. Instead, find her sipping unsweet tea near a beautiful garden as she weaves fictional tales of love and connection amid reality.

The Ocean in His Veins (The Ocean Series) by A.R. Hadley
Genre – Literary Fiction
Page Count – 356
Cover Designer – Emily Wittig

He’s a surfer. A loner. A man on a quest to rid himself of pesky feelings.

After his grandfather passes away, Cal Prescott begins to see life differently.

Money wants his attention, women beckon, and the pursuit of success becomes a cycle he can’t seem to break.

Follow Cal from age sixteen to forty-five, from 1985 to 2014, from the tangerine fields of Ojai to the neon streets of Miami Beach — from being ready to take on the world to hitting the bottom of the sea.

Cal spends half his life waiting for the perfect wave to break over the horizon, looking for comfort, searching for peace — and he’ll chase every last drop of water … until he finds release.

Author Note: Part of the two-book series: The Ocean Series. The Ocean in His Veins may be read as a companion to the main title Where the Ocean Meets the Sky or as a standalone. Please be advised that reading this story first may change the way Cal is initially perceived in the latter book. This can be good or bad, depending on the reader.

Literary fiction, not romance. The characters and their intense and realistic actions drive the plot. 76,000-words. The Ocean in His Veins details Cal’s life from age sixteen to forty-five. The story ends the night he meets Annie in 2014. Contains graphic content that may trigger some readers.
