My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Lela’s Choice” by Jennifer Raines is a gripping tale of family, love, and the lengths one woman will go to protect her loved ones. The story follows Lela Vella, a dutiful daughter and aunt who’s determined to wean her father and orphaned niece off their dependence on her. However, her plans are turned upside down when her niece and her boyfriend flee Sydney for Malta, under suspicious circumstances.

The story is filled with suspense, romance, and a deep exploration of familial relationships. Jennifer Raines does an excellent job of creating well-rounded characters with complex emotions and motivations. Lela is a relatable and strong-willed protagonist, and Hamish’s internal struggle adds depth to his character. The chemistry between the two leads is palpable, yet a little spicy (in my opinion).

Raines also excels in creating a vivid and atmospheric setting. The descriptions of Malta and its culture add an extra layer of richness to the story. The pacing is well-balanced, with plenty of twists and turns to keep readers engaged until the very end.
