After reading the first book I was really excited to read this one. I connect with the story from the moment I started reading and I think this book has to be even better than the first. I loved watching how the relationship between the characters developed even more. Even with new things thrown at them their connection was strong and shone through. I thought the story was continued well. It flowed naturally from the first book and felt like the extension it was. I enjoyed reading the whole story and wanted to see how things would play out. This is still a new author to me but this book has just confirmed even more that I want to explore more of her work. This is a great story that I would definitely recommend.
It Comes From Within is Book Two in The House Valdis Series. It is a polyamorous urban sci fi fantasy filled with action, danger, mystery, suspense, secrets, lies, drama, romance, friendship, vampires, shifters, aliens, magic, and paranormal. This book picks up where the first book left off, so I highly recommend reading Book One first. It will introduce you to the characters as well as give you each of their backstories. Xenobia is struggling with her new leadership as she tries to merge House Valdis with the former House Muerte. The stakes are high and the merging of the two houses comes with a great deal of responsibility that she does not feel prepared for. As if that is not enough, Xenobia is faced with a new enemy, the White queen, who is determined to create her own den of vampires and become ruler at all costs. The story is told from the POV of numerous characters which enables the reader a deeper understanding of each of them. A fast paced, action-packed, rollercoaster ride that leaves you breathless in anticipation of the next book. This author never fails to deliver a fantastic story!

Ashton and Zach’s relationship grows so much in this book, leaving absolutely no room for doubt of their love for one another. I have pre-ordered the 3rd book! I cant wait for the end of April!
This is the 3rd book in the Long Claw Pride series. It can be read as a standalone, however for me personally I feel you will get a better understanding for our characters and their prides by reading from the beginning. This is a second chance paranormal shifter romance. It is full of everything we would expect from angst and challenges to humour, family and chemistry that only appears in fated mate stories. In this book we meet Boone and Cricket and this is their story.
All Boone wants is to find his fated mate and he knows when the call happens he needs to follow it to find her which he does and that leads him to Cricket. Cricket has been through a tough time. After finding her mate and starting what she imagined would be a blissful life with her children, she never thought for one second it would be taken away from her when her mate dies. Now she is alone with the children, working for her family’s logging business. She knows that fated mates only ever happens once and with her mate passed she has settled to her life being alone. Detective Dylan and the Hunt For Home Plate is the second book in A Youth Sleuths Chapter Book Series by M.J. Murray. This is a children’s chapter book story with a bit of a mystery, crime and investigation elements, lessons/Learning, family, friendships, and more. This engaging tale inspires problem solving- including math’s activities, expanding vocabulary, promoting fluency & comprehension, and more. As with the first book, this has an easy to read and understand plot which captures the imagination by engaging the reader with a fun story that contains some ‘learning’ opportunities along the way. There are also some fun (black and white) illustrations sprinkled throughout that help fuel the imagination- but would have been even more impactful and engaging if they had been in colour. Detective Dylan, his sister Emily, and trusty dog Theodore take on another ‘case’ when the bases from the baseball field go missing. What happened to them? Will Dylan and co get to the bottom of the mystery to find what happened to the bases? This is well worth the read to find out and makes for a fun read. This is aimed at children 5 – 9 who are perhaps just starting to read ‘chapter books’ on their own, or with help- so the story contains a few ‘harder’ words to challenge them as they read (Reading Tier 2). It is a romantic suspense with tension, mystery, danger, investigation, crime boss – graduate student – PI dynamic, chemistry, angst, emotion, secrets, and dramatic developments. What should have been the opportunity of a lifetime for graduate student Evelyn Stevenson turns sour quite quickly- propelling her into a situation she could never have imagined. The Changed Man is the fourth book in The Olympic Peninsula series by Cat Treadgold. It is a superb addition to the series, which just seems to get better and better with each new instalment. It is a contemporary romance with a bit of a ‘family saga’ feel, plenty of emotion, heart & soul, wonderful characters, family dynamics, secrets, drama, angst, layers/facets, interconnected details, complications, slow-burn, intrigue, mystery, and more. This is Jake O’Connell’s story, he’s the O’Connell’s brother (Joe Bob, David, and Teresa have had their own stories in the previous three books). His story definitely grabbed my heartstrings, and plucked them, hard- making for a sweet, heartwarming, emotional, and memorable read As with the previous instalments, Ms. Treadgold has woven a great story with complex characters, dramatic developments, tension, and emotional touches- which made it really easy to connect with the characters, and allowed me to completely invest in their story- while adding her own special touches that imbue an extra element of charm to the overall story/series. Oh, and I love this cover, it’s my favourite of the series, so far…. Looking forward to Book #5, The Fallen Man- which is Edward’s story. Happy Reading…

This was such a great book! I definitely recommend to any kid audiences. I love fun little books. Most especially ones about fireflies! Fireflies are probably my most favorite bug species. This really was enjoyable. My son has really enjoyed books like these because they’re fun and he always learns about new kinds of bugs!
Managing Mischief is the second book in the Shattered Embrace series by Alyndra Quinn. It is the second book in Ashton and Zachary’s story, so I highly recommend reading the first before diving into this one, as there is important story details, character introductions, and other pertinent information contained there that I think you should know in order to full appreciate this instalment. In Book #1, we met Ashton as she applies to join an exclusive BDSM club, and she doesn’t realise, until it’s too late, that the CEO of the company she has just been hired to consult for, is also the head of the same BDSM club she has just applied to…. things get interesting very quickly…. Not to mention that he’s also her best friend’s brother…. So in this instalment we get a ‘closer look’ at the ‘club scene’ and all those spicy details. We also get more questions answered that were left hanging from the previous book. It is a steamy, contemporary romance, with a best friend’s brother element, palpable chemistry, banter, a BDSM club, Dom/sub dynamics, Alpha type male, some angst, spicey encounters, emotion, and a little drama- which made for another engrossing read. The next instalment, Discovering Desire will give us Derek’s story (Zachary’s brother, who is also Ashton’s best friend). Can’t wait for that. Happy Reading

Give Us Bad Boys and Billionaires by L.M Mountford is an omnibus of short novellas — a Boxset of previously released stories which have been dusted off, renamed, and then put together into this collection. At first I was excited to see this- as I saw a ‘new’ cover and ‘new’ titles to thirteen stories…. But once I dove in, I must admit I was a little disappointed to find stories that I have read many times previously, in one guise or another. But just to make sure I wasn’t mistaken, I read the collection in its entirety and confirm that they are indeed the same stories we have read, not only individually, but also as part of a few ‘other’ anthology/collections. The stories are short but steamy – covering genres from friends to lovers, age gap, second chances, temptations, erotic fantasies, forbidden liaisons, secrets, menage, romance, drama, angst, BDSM, and even a couple of paranormal tales. This boxset is a very quick and easy read and because each of the ‘books’ is so short. If you are short on reading time, this is one of those collections that you can pick it up and down without feeling like you are left ‘hanging’ or will ‘miss’ anything. There isn’t a huge amount of depth, or complexity to the stories or characters, but if you are in need of a little smexxxy in your life, then you’ll probably love what you find between these covers. I know I say this every time I have read this author’s work, but I really wish these stories were expanded more, so we got more depth and development to fully ‘explore’ the story and invest in the characters fully. I really want them to be more ‘meatier’.

Family Ties Family Lies by Jacqueline Boulden is the first book that I have read by this author, so I really didn’t know what I could expect from one of her stories when I snapped up a copy to explore. I took the chance, and I am glad that I did, as I found an intriguing women’s fiction mystery- a bit of a multi-faceted smalltown family saga/drama, with plenty of emotion, long-held secrets, lies, suspense, tension, intrigue, family dynamics, love, trauma, pain, angst, forgiveness, investigation, and dramatic developments. Rose’s life is turned upside down in more ways than one. By going ‘home’ to care for her mother, she stumbles on some intriguing information. Things take a mysterious turn and Rose is about to discover some long-held secrets. The story takes us on an emotional journey- a real little mystery, with crime and investigation that has far more going on that first meets the eye. What happens made for a great read that had me engrossed to whole way through. I will definitely be on the lookout for more of Ms. Boulden’s books to read in the future. Happy Reading

“ I died hundreds of years ago, though the strange thing was, I had no idea how or who killed me and I wasn’t going to waste my time researching my demise. The evening I was reborn, it was pouring rain mixed with sleet that felt like itty bitty daggers stabbing my naked skin. It was painful and I was freezing, which only heightened the amount of pain the inclement weather caused. I had to get out of the cold and found shelter in a barn kilometers from where I emerged from the tree. Rampant emotions consumed me from frightened to confused to angry back to confusion. I had no idea how I got in that blasted tree and had no idea who or where I was. I was thankful that it was the middle of the night and no one was privy to my lack of dignity. Though, on the other hand, it would have been nice to have run into someone who could have offered me a coat or hot fire, anything to warm me up. To note, the tree is pretty busted, but one can use the excuse that it was the lightning that split it in all directions. But that’s not important, what’s important is I was startled awake the next morning to some kid screaming then hollering for his ‘Da’ – which gave me credence that this was a Scottish family and that I was in Scotland. The Scottish family was right, but the location wasn’t. In fact, I was in the Province of North Carolina and it was 1765. I’ve no idea how I got here or where I came from. I didn’t even know my name or had any memory. I was reborn, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, though the pile of ashes was a tree. ”
Hood of Sedna is the first book in the Stevie Capot Chronicles by Mina Sky. It is a paranormal story- with a steampunk/dystopian feel, urban fantasy, Fae, history, mystery, adventure, suspense, intrigue, dramatic developments, romance, secrets, discovery/revelations, humour, and emotion. The story ends leaving things to continue in Book #2, ‘Coveted Hood’. As expected from Ms. Skye, the story is well-woven, with an original take/lore that made for a captivating read- all wrapped into some fantastic world-building that really brought the whole story to life. Vegan Vampire hooked me and the hot Broccoli twins kept me hooked. This book is filled with characters I haven’t seen anywhere else and it was a wild ride. It is a Reverse Harem so there’s more unique creatures that all want a piece of Basil and I was here for it.
I wish there was more development of the Main character and it seemed like the book was supposed to be longer. (maybe I just wish it was lol) The spice was a pretty good 3.5. Overall I will be reading more from this author as well as the rest of this series!

The Archspawn – Pilgrimage & Prophecies is the first book in The Archcrusade series and debut novel by K.M. Hogenson. This is an epic, 89-chapter book- making for a massive read. It is a high fantasy quest with action, adventure, magic, paranormal beings (eg: mages, demons, vampires, shifters, warlocks), danger, dramatic developments, a multi-layered storyline, agendas, a touch of fate/destiny, prophecy, and darker elements that you might want to make yourself aware of before diving in, especially if you have triggers. There was just so much going on in this book that I am really having trouble choosing where to start with my review. So here goes…. Like I said this is a lengthy novel- 1350+ pages of story, 89 chapters, 172+ cast members (characters), over 30 individual POV’s to keep track of, and some very unusual character names to wrap our heads around. There was way too much going on here for me, making for a bit of a chaotic read- especially with so many different characters and perspectives to keep track of- so things did get confusing and muddled at times. While the plot was interesting, the plethora of perspectives, info dumps in some areas & lack of information in others, and the somewhat stilted dialogue (at times), really made for a choppy, lagging/dragging read. I really think that some of the individual perspectives/POV, especially the singular chapters, could have been condensed and that information passed on in some other, more streamlined way. While I appreciate the author’s passion, the heart and soul that they put into their work- I found that the issues I had made it difficult to connect with the characters and/or invest in the overall story. With so much to keep track of and get my head around, I just couldn’t find my ‘groove’ and lose myself in the story like I was really hoping to do. There were way too many things that interrupted the flow and/or pulled me out of the story. There were times I found my mind wandering because the story was lagging, so I repeatedly had to force myself to stay focused on what was going on. I feel with less POV’s and a few less chapters/pages, the story would have been far more engaging. I think a lot of these issues could have been picked up and sorted with more editing and several Beta reads. This is only my personal opinion though, and now looking at some of the other reviews, I seem to be the only one who has had any issues — So if you love an epic fantasy, with plenty of adventure and don’t mind the issues that I found- then this just might be what you are looking for. The story is set to continue in Book #2, so it will be interesting to see where the author takes us from here. Happy Reading

I absolutely adored this book. It really had me engaged from the start and I just had to keep reading to see what happened.
Bailey has worked at her job for years and when things start going south they get a new CEO and work life is now amazing.
Fox is the new CEO and has brought new life to the business and the staff.
I usually don’t care for time jumps but these were needed as we get what’s needed and then hop to now with small memories talked about in those missing years. I really can’t find what I want to say without possibly saying something that would ruin a part of the story as it is best read as it’s written to get the feel for it all. This author made me feel each and every single emotion our main characters were feeling. Happy, sad, anxious, embarrassed and everything you can name and that is what makes a story stick with me is how it made me feel. Will be reading more by this author for sure.

The Glow in Loretta’s Garden is the fifth book in the Loretta’s Insects series by Lois Wickstrom. This is another fun children’s illustrated storybook, full of interesting facts about insects- this time we learn about the lifecycle of fireflies. The added educational elements added an extra element of interest to the engaging adventure. As we discovered previously, Loretta loves insects, and this time she discovers some glowing larvae while digging in her flower bed. She puts them in an empty ant farm and watches them do interesting things. What happens when they finally hatch? You really should discover all the interesting details for yourself – because what happens makes for a fun read. This is not just a cute story, it also encourages children to learn while they read. I read this story with my grandson, but we wish the illustrations were better, as they are very simplistic and aren’t as bright, bold, or eye catching like a lot of Ms. Wickstrom’s other books- so they didn’t grab or hold his attention like the others have done. As with the other books in the series, the ‘new’ cover is great, but unfortunately the illustrations inside the book aren’t up to the same standard. This collection of stories and author may be some readers’ cup of tea; however, it is not mine and I cannot make a recommendation based on the following review. This collection of short stories has spice, sometimes some very “intense” spice. But that’s about all it has. There is no character development or plot to these stories. I kept hoping that the more I read that there would be a story where it was more than just a gratuitous spicy scene that bordered on revulsion and repulsion for me. There were many times throughout my reading of this collection that I had to stop and put the book down because it gave me the ick. If you’re looking for nothing more than over-done erotica, with over-the-top, nausea-inducing spice, no character development and no logical plot line, then this is a collection you can add to your stockpile. But be warned…this is nothing more than a teenage boy’s wet dream written on paper.

The Hidden Present is the eighth book in the Invisible Magic Wand series by Lois Wickstrom. As with the rest of the series the story draws you in right from the get-go, grabbing your attention with the bright and interesting illustrations which accompany the cute storyline. Caspian’s unbirthday has come around again- but this time Caspian can’t find it and will need to search for it. Lucky he has the Inquisitive Indicator to help his investigation. And so, let the adventure begin…. This is another cute children’s story and a fun addition to series. It has bright and colourful illustrations, fun, educational elements/lessons, and a touch of whimsical fantasy. As with the other books in this series, it is a slightly quirky tale that proved to be quite engaging- feeding both the imagination, as well providing a few lessons along the way. A Girl, Stuck is the third book in the Found Families series by new-to-me author, Kelly Elizabeth Huston. This has a bit of a romantic suspense vibe about it- mixed with woman’s fiction. The author has woven an angsty and emotional story full of drama, mystery, suspense, tension, hope, redemption, mafia, law enforcement, investigation, and darker elements. You may want to read the content warning before diving in. I have to be honest here and say that this cover really doesn’t do the book any justice (in my opinion). If I were browsing, looking for books, this cover would never have caught my attention, or even rated a second glance really. Because, if it were not for the book being recommended in our reading group, I would never have picked it up. A great cover really makes a difference, and I feel the author is missing out on capturing more attention. I also didn’t realise going into this book that it was the third book in the series, but thankfully it can be read as a standalone without feeling like I was missing anything important. But having said that, I will definitely be going back to read the first two books to find out what happened there and see if there are any interconnected details that flow through to this book, before continuing with the series. And after exploring the authors Goodreads page, I notice that there is no consistency with the covers in the series either- which again, I would have overlooked if I had been browsing and not specifically ‘hunting’. I don’t mind the cover for Book #1, it has some appeal- but the second one is definitely forgettable… sorry to say this because this author can write an engrossing story, and I feel like her books may not be getting the attention that they deserve due to forgettable/unappealing covers. Again, this is just my opinion, and the cover/s didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story. The story is impactful and intriguing- and the character/s are well-developed individual/s with their own unique quirks and flaws. The character/s continued to develop and grow over the course of the story- adding an extra element of interest to the overall storyline. Looking forward to “See Sadie Jane Run” Book #4 – due to release later this year (2024). Happy Reading

This is a quick, fast paced read. It is the ending of the series. I feel that if you haven’t read the others in the series you could still read this and then go back and read the rest. There might be spoilers in doing so but it doesn’t distract from the story line. The characters in this book are amazing. The leading female is a single mom who has an amazing career. Her son is a character that you will love. The leading male character is just a really good guy. Those don’t generally exist, like there is normally some underlying issues or trauma that the male has to work through. Not with this book. The leading female is the one with the “baggage” in this story. There were times when I was wondering when the other shoe was going to drop but that didn’t happen either. There is growth for each of the characters and that brings them closer together. There is some steam in this book but you are more focused one the storyline that the steam. I felt like it was a great ending to a series. I am sad to see it end because I’m selfish and didn’t want to stop reading. I was at the end of the book before I even realized it. I highly suggest reading this if you love some small town, single mom, romance. It was just very heartfelt and uplifting to read. Reviewed by: @bbohls

What a unique story! A vegan vampire?! I really wasn’t sure how this story would work, but I really enjoyed it. Basil is such a loveable character and her mates! Yummy! The idea of her moving to a whole supe town and opening up her own shop is perfect. The residents we meet are different and interesting. I was completely wrapped up in this book from page one! Definitely grab this one, curled up and enjoy!

This is a very quaint romance novel, it’s exactly what you would expect. It’s a good story and I like how the author integrates the characters from the previous books in the series. In October 1871, Payden MacTavish Thompson and Robbie McClintock traveled to Scotland to reclaim Dunacres. Dunacres was home to the Earls of Taviston but had fallen prey to Cameron Plowman. After his parents were murdered during a voyage to New York City, Payden was raised by his fourteen-year old sister and Aunt Murdoch. Muireall had changed their name to Thompson in hopes that Plowman would not find them. Unfortunately, he found the family and terrorized them with kidnappings and more. Payden was going to end the reign of terror, and his best friend, Robbie, accompanied him. They had thought they would only be gone for a month or two. They were very mistaken.
In May 1876, Payden and Robbie were returning. Payden had successfully reclaimed his family’s Scottish property and killed Plowman. Leaving his trust in Kenneth Mitchell as a steward, he knew Dunacres would recover from the neglect. However, he couldn’t let go of the memories of the horrors he endured and his broken heart. Robbie was bringing his paramour, Colleen Sinclair, with him. The only woman Payden had ever loved was killed by Plowman’s men. Despite killing the men, Payden and Robbie were both placed in a dungeon. Robbie was returning with a limp and a facial scar. Payden returned with anguish and flashbacks of death.
Several days after their return, Muireall asks Payden for assistance. She was helping the Sisters of Charity rescue a woman and her children from an abusive husband. She thought his presence might prevent Mr. Faraday from interfering. Payden called Robbie as a backup and joined Muireall. Despite the presence of a police officer, Mr. Faraday was holding a knife to his wife’s neck. After seeing Robbie take the last child and an elderly woman out the back of the house, Payden and Officer McLean tried to negotiate for the woman’s freedom. Mr. Faraday pointed his knife at the officer and then began to swing the blade towards the woman. Payden pulled his pistol and killed him.
At the orphanage, Muireall and Payden were preparing to leave when the Endicott women brought donations. When Clarice Endicott’s younger sister faints from the sight of blood on Payden’s shirt, Clarice glares at the incorrigible man. A second trip to the orphanage with clothing for Mrs. Faraday finds Payden and Clarice facing each other. After accusing Payden of being a monster for not covering the blood that he probably got from being an apprentice butcher, Payden decides to take her snobbery down a peg. The blood had been from Mr. Faraday. Clarice pales and is horrified to have misjudged Payden by his appearance. This is not the last time Payden and Clarice will bump heads.
This is an intriguing story with amazing character development. Beyond romance, the story dives into overcoming grief and ignoring what is proper to do what is right. I liked Payden’s view, as it felt relatable. The archaic stigma of a woman’s value was based on her family’s background and who she married, which were definite obstacles for Clarice. The alternating perspectives of Payden and Clarice added depth to the story by showing their insecurities. I recommend The Earl’s Match for anyone who enjoys a forbidden romance full of adventure and intrigue.

The Changed Man Book 4 in The Olympic Peninsula series. Well, I was so excited to see that there was a book four and hope for more. I have loved each and every book in this series and yes, I do think you could read this as a standalone, but why? You will love them all. I have enjoyed the details that the author has put into this book as for the fact that I LIVE in Port Townsend and have for my whole life, so these seem to have a special connection for me. Very well written contemporary romance and all the characters are in some way intertwined, another reason you should read them all. The characters are interesting and fun to get to know them all. The family dynamics can be very relatable. Lots of emotion, drama, love, family, angst, and friends all fast paced enough to keep you engaged and wanting more. I can’t recommend this book and the others in this series enough.

The Missing Red Envelopes by Yobe Qiu (illustrations by Kris Fulk) – is a cute children’s chapter book, a bit of a light-hearted mystery that pulls us into a fun tale full of cultural diversity celebrating the lunar new year, traditions, Chinese and Asian customs/culture/celebrations, adventure, imagination- and inspires curiosity while also promoting critical thinking. This book is mainly aimed at readers 7 – 12 years old. We Join sisters Lori and Weina as they unravel the mystery about the missing red envelopes- resulting in a fun and engaging little read. While I loved the story and thought the illustrations were cute, I think this would have been an even richer reading experience, and had a much bigger impact, if the illustrations had been a bit bigger and in colour- instead of the small black and white images sprinkled throughout. All the rich colours and vibrancy of the Chinese New Year celebrations, with the parades, Chinese Dragons, fireworks etc, would have been even better and more engaging in full colour, like her other books are. Lorie and Weina are sisters and they are looking for the red envelopes that were in a bag that they were carrying around. The envelopes are a custom during the Lunar New Year and they contain money and chocolate.
What I enjoyed most about this story is learning more about Asian culture. Young readers can have an appreciation of it as well and may want to experience a Lunar New Year celebration.
The illustrations were also very well done throughout this short chapter book.

I am reading this first novel from the Silver Springs Pets Series. I was very intrigued with the themes of paranormal, romantic comedy definitely had me compelled to check it out. Basil is very intuitive and uses her intelligence in problem solving to her new development of being a vampire. She adjusts to her new situation and eventually moves to Silver Springs where she finds other individuals more like herself there. She ends up meeting some Supes who she is instantly attracted to, Theo, JJ, and Jo. One thing that draws her more to them is that they appreciate every bit of her, even attributes she is not proud of.

This book is filled to the brim with the taboo, the steamy, the sultry, the fantasies, and smut. Multiple stories at only a few chapters for a super quick read, others a bit longer to give a little more depth to the characters, but they’re all very hot. Stories range from dom/sub, sons best friend, babysitter and boss stories, swinging, paranormal passion…gives everyone a taste of something they’d like to read about!
While they were all short and quick reads, the characters were well developed and the stories felt more involved than just reading for some quick heat. I’d say the Lord of Lust is an accurate nickname!

Basil has the first date she will never forget! On the way home from the date, which she met on a dating app, she was involved in a car accident. This accident left her turned into a vampire! The problem is she is vegan!
Upon leaving the hospital, after an episode of bloodlust. She finds a wonderful property in Silver Springs where she can open a smoothie and tanning business. This city seems to cater to those of a non human form! She also is able to create a mixture of blood that keeps her from having to rely on biting anyone.
Upon opening her new business she attracts three men. Will she make a choice? Will the danger one of them brings to town cause harm to Basil? You must read on to find out!
I will say this book can be read as a standalone. I have not read the previous books and did not feel like I was missing any information on any background. Now I am off to read the previous ones!
