An enjoyable and engaging historical romance which had me hooked throughout. In this reverse age-gap story the thirty year old widow Charlotte, Dowager Countess of Peterborough and the younger William Stanton, heir to the Earl of Harrington start a passionate and steamy affair. However, William who is having to manage the Earldom for his drunken father, must make an advantageous marriage to a wealthy debutant. Whilst Charlotte is happy forgetting proper etiquette and reclaiming her femininity and powers of seduction, she knows the affair can’t continue and that William must marry. Meanwhile William is willing to defy the rules of Society and marry Charlotte, but she knows that he will need an heir and that is one thing she cannot give him. I felt fully immersed in this story as both the characters and the setting come to life through the descriptive narrative. I liked how Charlotte was older than William as that is not the norm in romances. The chemistry between her and William sizzled off the page, leading to some rather steamy scenes which do include a BDSM element. The storyline, characters and setting all kept me happily turning the pages!
