Troy: A Crown of Stones Origin Story by C. L. Schneider – Review by Callie Luna

Troy (The Crown of Stones)Troy by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Troy is the prequel to the Crown of Stones Trilogy; it goes deeper into Ian Troy’s past 15 years before we meet him again. It can be read before or after the trilogy, I’d even recommend reading it before since there are less spoilers. Troy’s dependence on casting due to him being a Shinree is front and foremost with him learning to control his magic since it is like a drug. Aylagar Arcana, the queen of Rella, sends Troy and four soldiers with him into enemy territory to reclaim vital knowledge about the Langorians. Though Troy’s mission is a bit different than the rest of the party thinks. My favorite part of the book is when Troy first meets Kya and how their relationship evolves. Even with the knowledge of future events reading how the events played out was a refreshing surprise. I highly enjoyed the foreshadowing and the hints that C.L. Schneider employs. It is the Troy we have gotten to know just with much more hope of his future. I highly recommend reading this prequal and the Crown of Stones Trilogy!
