“The Silent Forest” is a gripping and unsettling psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Author David Kummer has crafted a masterful story that explores the darker aspects of human nature and the devastating consequences of trauma.
The story follows Kaia, a determined and resilient young woman who refuses to give up on finding her missing friend, Allison. The author’s writing is atmospheric and evocative, drawing the reader into the eerie and foreboding atmosphere of the New Haven forest.
One of the strengths of this novel is its ability to craft complex and believable characters. Kaia is a relatable and likable protagonist, and her determination to uncover the truth is both admirable and heartbreaking. The supporting cast, including the enigmatic Woods family, is equally well-developed, with each character adding depth and nuance to the story. The book was better developed, in my opinion, than book #1.
The plot is expertly paced, with a slow-burning tension that builds towards a shocking and unforgettable ending. The author’s use of misdirection and red herrings is clever, keeping the reader guessing until the very last page.
However, there are a few areas where the story could be improved. At times, the pacing feels slightly uneven, with some sections feeling rushed or dragged out. Additionally, some of the supporting characters could benefit from more development and backstory.
