This was an enjoyable urban fantasy romance with a mix of the medieval and the modern. The intriguing storyline had me hooked throughout, and I read this novella in a couple of sittings, keen to find out the ending. Heather goes to a medieval reenactment weekend with her friend Steph and meets Sir Roland. He turns out to be a Special Forces Ranger called Rylan and their instant chemistry came across in the narrative. The story gets a bit darker when Heather is nearly kidnapped by ‘rat men’ and along with talking owls, the fantasy elements merge with the world of medieval reenactment. I found Heather and Steph to be likeable and relatable characters and I liked their friendship. The sweet romance between Heather and Rylan developed throughout the story. I found that the book ended just as the story was getting going and there were too many loose ends left, maybe there will be a sequel? Overall an entertaining and engaging fantasy romance novella.
