The Mastermind (WaterFyre Rising Book 1) by Nadia Han – Review by Sara Grantham

The Mastermind (WaterFyre Rising, #1)The Mastermind by Nadia Han
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book intrigued me in ways I did not expect! I loved the way Nadia combined so many different emotions into one book. Lust, love, fear, hope, betrayal, and belonging… Everything Audri and Remi felt, I felt too. I loved the twists in the story, and how everything from their pasts wove together.
If you are looking for “a brother’s best friend romance” – this is all that and more! From the undeniable attraction and longing to the steamy sex scenes, Nadia really delivers. She created so many wonderful characters, and I cannot wait to join them again in the second WaterFyre Rising book.

This book had my attention from the very first page! If you want an amazing read with spice and suspense…then this is the one for you. Remi is this dark guy with a past, he doesn’t wear his heart on his sleeve…but he has a soft spot for a girl in particular. So many things happened in this book and it kept me on my toes! Things happened that I didn’t expect and that’s what makes it great. I love the twists and turns. But of course, the spice 🤌🏽 phenomenal. Remi is definitely a mastermind and I highly recommend this!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book 3 so it does help to read the first two. However, you don’t have to read books 1 and 2 in order to enjoy and follow the book. In this book our FMC is the youngest sister and is determined to be a success. If only her frenemy would leave her alone. Of course he doesn’t but she comes to realize she doesn’t want him to. They solve a family mystery that has spanned this 3 book series and have a fantastic romance along the way. Sweet story line that has a good ending!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is my first read in the Meraki series and I enjoyed it. Friendship, family, and faith were big factors within this story. The sisters themselves showed great family dynamic and how strong a family bond can be.
Our MFC Krystina was a free spirit with dreams of traveling the world. When tragedy strikes her dreams to travel for leisure instead become travels for unanswered questions. By her side is a childhood friend/foe named Loukas. He is determined to be her rock and to prove how he truly feels. Together they experience love, loss, anger, and the road to happiness

Isabella Bride of Ohio: American Mail Order Bride by Debra Parmley – Review by Lauren West

Isabella Bride of Ohio: American Mail-Order Brides SeriesIsabella Bride of Ohio: American Mail-Order Brides Series by Debra Parmley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I am familiar with this author and usually enjoy her work. This book was a bit difficult for me to get into, but it was insightful and interesting from a historical aspect. To imagine traffickers during that time and the fear of nearly being taken in a time without all the modern technology would be unnerving . The story itself has action, danger, drama, and deception. Isabel herself was a wonderful heroine who was strong and amazing. She persevered despite so much loss and tragedy. Donald was to be her chance at a better life and happiness but she still didn’t feel everything was right having gone to be his bride anyway. The more the story progresses you question if there are truth to her fears and if her life will take a turn for the better or worse.

Dark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book Series (A Dark Sparrow Novel) by India Kells – Review by Beverly Finnie

Dark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book SeriesDark Sparrow Box Set: The Complete 6-Book Series by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This series is amazing! It has it’s ups and downs and some really dark themes running throughout but if you sit down and read them you will get sucked in. Dark Sparrows Boxset is full of romance and suspense, and though you could read each book individually they are so much better in succession. I say that because I’ve read King Bastard before, and I swore at that time I would go back and read books 1-5 then re-read book 6. Well that’s exactly what this boxset allowed me to do. I re-fell in love with the main characters of book 6 as well as everyone else.
The events set into motion by none other than Lazarus King, he’s made it his life’s mission to bring down his estranged father, Jamieson Finch. Along the way he’s learned that he isn’t Jamieson’s only bastard son and these books are what brings them together for a common cause.
Book 1 Lost Bastard puts into the Chicago underground. Which means there’s quite a bit of suspense that’s going to be throughout. Aleksei, a potential Russian Bratva operative, gets pulled into illegal fighting by his estranged father. It’s at that point he meets Deva.
Deva, a MC princess, has been in hiding after escaping the Chicago underground. When she’s called upon by Beatrice, as one of her Dark Sparrows to assist Lazarus King in uniting his brother’s and keeping them safe from Finch.
Book 2 Cold Bastard brings Archer Blackwood to the spotlight. Despite learning in book 1 Lazarus has already been in contact with other brothers Archer has no idea about the relations or his father is and how close he’s circling. Is it your typical Billionaire Romance? Of course not because all these books are tied together. Little did Archer know Zoe was going to change his life.
Zoe is the next Dark Sparrow tasked into action because of her penchant for solving puzzles as well as being multilingual. Unfortunately there’s a slight twist in this book that they don’t see coming, proving Finch is currently a few steps ahead of them.
Book 3, Welcome to the Kai Jones lighthearted adventure, or is it? In Wild Bastard, Kai gets brought to his knees by the one who got away. Kai, being the most lighthearted and laid back of Finch’s six bastard sons, doesn’t see his Dark Sparrow coming. Despite everything going on knowing that fact and the dark undertones it’s probably the lightest book in the set in my opinion.
Isabel never thought she’d see Kai again after she disappeared on him 15 years earlier in Hawaii. With secrets that are buried deep she never realized her feelings towards him would come back full force. Being the PR guru she is, she’s tasked to become the specialist Finch hirers to help launch his mayoral campaign. Will it be successful? Will the brother’s finally get what they want? It was also a breath of fresh air to see Deva and Aleksei back in this book, since they were absent from book 2.
Book 4 True Bastard, gives the reader a lot of inner turmoil storylines. Liam is a cop, which doesn’t necessarily mess well with his brother’s who float in the illegal underground of Chicago to get things done. At the same time he wants nothing more to be part of the cause to take Finch down. Anything he can and will do to help Lazarus and his other brothers he will do. Unfortunately with Archer taking the reins because of Lazarus being in a coma things are starting to slip. Does that make it the perfect time for Finch to slide in and destroy his sons?
It walks Catriona, a numbers expert, that Dark Sparrow calls to help shut down Finch’s finances. Catriona is on the road to becoming a nun, but after meeting Liam she’s struggling with the road she wants to travel. Though not as light as book 3 this is probably the only other light book in this series.
Book 5 Dark Bastard in my opinion is the darkest. Extremely dark storylines that I feel a reader should know could be a trigger warning, so just use caution going in. Sam has been living in a dark cloud since childhood. Ready to end it all until one misdialed phone call changes everything. Finch knows exactly who Sam is, he took him away from his mother and broke him as a child. Forever damaging his psyche.
Ellie was ready to end it all, till New Year’s Eve and a mysterious caller stopped those plans in their tracks. Now being held hostage with Sam, the caller, by his psycho father they need to do everything they can to bid their time and get out. These two beautifully fight light and dark throughout this whole book.
Book 6, King Bastard is still my favorite book in the series, however closely followed by Cold Bastard. Finally making it to Lazarus King, the man who set this all in motion. Now it’s time for the epic conclusion, but not without him being brought to his knees as well. Ever since waking up from his coma, he feels like he’s putting his brother’s in too much danger, especially since they’ve all found women they love. He pulls back from everyone, till Sasha shows him there’s another way.
Sasha, the resident bastard’s doctor when needed, hates being told what to do. And
Lazarus being the prime suspect of doing such things, the man drives her crazy. Yet since she cared for him during his coma, she’s started to see him in a new light. The passion between them is undeniable. Do they succeed? Does Finch finally get what’s coming for him? What happens between brothers?
This is a well written series and again I will say I love it. The author wrote characters that are easy to fall in love with. Such wonderful themes and so much suspense, romance, and love throughout. So worth it!!!

The Second Alpha Heir by C. L. Ledford – Review by Mandy Ott

The Second Alpha HeirThe Second Alpha Heir by C.L. Ledford
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book captured my attention from the very beginning! I was expecting your typical shifter romance, but was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the story. C. L. Ledford pulls you right in to the emotional roller coaster of the story when the oldest son of the Alpha, and brother of the main character, Archer is killed. This story follows the second son, Nolen, as he begins training to become Alpha. The Second Alpha Heir is full of ups and downs, and so many emotions as Nolen navigates training, growing up, and finally shifting and finding his mate. C. L. Ledford delivers a wonderfully imaginative and descriptive story along with captivating characters that you’ll just fall in love with! I can’t wait to read more books by C. L. Ledford.

Ballet School Rumours (Amberwood Hall Ballet School Adventure Book 3) by Eleanor Dixon – Review by Betsy Melano

Ballet School Rumours: An Amberwood Hall Ballet School AdventureBallet School Rumours: An Amberwood Hall Ballet School Adventure by Eleanor Dixon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the third book in the Amberwood Hall Ballet School Adventure series. This book is definitely for younger readers but I still enjoyed reading it. Although I haven’t read the earlier books in the series, I easily connected to Lauren the main character and her friends and family. The opening chapter made me think of my days as a student in school and being part of a group of people who share common interests. I think many young readers would love this series as it includes fun moments with friends and classmates, shared expectations from parents, and it includes some paranormal aspects but nothing really scary.

Ballet School Rumours is the third book in the Amberwood Hall Ballet School Adventures series by Eleanor Dixon. This book continues the Amberwood Hall adventures and is a wonderful paranormal children’s story with ghosts, friendship, drama, fun, mystery, ballet/dancing, and more.
With the school magazine starts a gossip wall it brings an influx of speculation about there being a supernatural manifestation at the school. With rumours flying and causing problems things get complicated and friendships are threatened… Is there something sinister at play? What happens makes for an intriguing read.
I have enjoyed following this charming series, and this book is a wonderful addition to the other two books. It could be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading right from the beginning to fully appreciate the story and characters.
Another great little story for all ages!

Thank you, Eleanor Dixon!

The Vilification of Aqua Marine by Megan Mackie – Review by Julie Johnson

The Vilification of Aqua Marine (Working Mask, #1)The Vilification of Aqua Marine by Megan Mackie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Imagine what it must be like to be the daughter of both a villain and a superhero! Insert Rhiannon, aka Aqua Marine. Her super trait is managing a cup of water at a time. Sounds pretty easy, right? It is until she uses it in a nefarious way and blows someone’s heart out. Where does that leave her now? Her mom, Black Fox, is excited to hear this new development and is hoping she can turn her daughter in a super villainess like she is. Will she succeed?

This book is a lot of fun! I kept equating parts of this book to one of my favorite movies, “Sky High”, where they are assigning superheroes versus sidekicks. Rhiannon would likely be more of a sidekick. My favorite character in this book though….hands down….no equals….is Overlord of the Dance. Every scene he was in had me laughing, hysterically at times, at the mental images that I was getting of him. I’d like to see him get his own story soon!

Twilight’s Spy (Twilight Realm Trilogy Book 1.5) by K.M. Wray – Review by Angela Hayes

Twilight's SpyTwilight’s Spy by K.M. Wray
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars

Twilight’s Spy is book #1.5 in The Twilight Realm Trilogy by K.M. Wray. It is a YA fantasy adventure story with elves, dragons, magic, action, adventure, emotion, a quest, great world creation, and drama.
In this instalment we follow Yarissa on a spy mission, but things don’t quite go according to plan and get more complicated when she finds herself trapped in the Night Realm, fighting to survive… things seem quite dire. What happens makes for an exciting read.
Again, the world building is really original, and Ms. Wray has done a good job of bringing her ‘world’, characters, and story to life. It was a fun story to read- and I look forward to more.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, K.M Wray!

Thus Book was the perfect length for me to read this week. I had some stuff going on and had a hard time focusing on everything but this book was a great break for me to enjoy without the long term concentration.

Ember is the perfect name for a fire fighter and this Ember lives up to her name.  She definitely a spark that lights up wherever she is.

Sol needed Ember to remain in his life after everything that happened though he wasn’t aware of it until they run into one another.

I liked this story, the characters and plot were what I needed to read at the time.

Body Checked (Astoria Bay Thunder #2)Body Checked by C.J. Cartwright
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

To overcome a past that has your reputation in question is difficult. Bridger McKelty is a professional hockey player for the Astoria Bay Thunder. He is a self-avowed bachelor and recognized as having a different woman with him at every public event. However, his luck has run out with bad media headlines and going through a slump during games. He undergoes a whole life makeover and comes up with an idea for a team calendar for a fundraiser event.

Tia Ferris has agreed to accompany her friend Brynn to a photoshoot. Tia has just lost her job because of incriminating photographs taken by her ex-boyfriend, Jonas Logie. When she left him, he promised she would be nothing without him. Every job Tia has worked at, Jonas has somehow infiltrated, and she is terminated. Now, seeking employment, nobody seems willing to hire her. Little does she know she is about to meet someone who will have her breaking her own rules.

Bridger seriously seems sincere with having Tia’s best interests at heart. Her problem with trust seems to be a barrier, and he is exceedingly patient with her on and off feelings for him. My favorite part of the book was his impulsive first date. To avoid spoilers, I can’t describe it, but I am sure it will make readers laugh.

Truth or Kill is a dark romance/suspense book that is utterly captivating. The book is a page-turner! Sydney is a smart and competent main character and Kage is the kind of dark love interest that is perfect for this story. I loved how Sydney handled herself. She has to stay on her toes to survive because these snobby, rich kids are out for her. There is a lot of push and pull between Kage and Sydney. They had a good dynamic. This book has murder, intrigue, and romance; definitely worth picking up.

I of course read this book not realizing somehow that it was a part of a series. Also of course, it was the last book in the series. This however, is my fault and you best believe after reading this one that I went and made sure I could grab the rest to begin again. This book was exciting, engaging, mysterious, and captivating. The author spins a tale that not only takes you to another place but another time. I feel for the characters and loved how they interacted with one another! Very well written and engaging tale!

The synopsis for this story really drew me in when I first read it, it sounded intriguing and I couldn’t wait to get started. Overall I did enjoy the book I will say for me it was a slow starter but it is definitely worth sticking with a it certainly picks up as it progresses. Nathan and Holly’s relationship was interesting, born from a promise to keep a secret and evolving into a romantic relationship – there were some points in the tory where I wasn’t convinced about the two of them but as they story progressed as did their relationship. I wasn’t sure about Holly at the start but she definitely became someone that Nathan needed in his life and she actually was a really sweet girl.
Overall I really liked this story and would definitely recommend it to other readers.

One In A Billion (Pierce Brothers, #3)One In A Billion by Belinda Williams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd book in a great series that I’m loving so far. I first became a fan of this author when I read her Freshwater series and I have continued to love her writing through this series so far.
One thing that I do love is that her books are set in her native Australia. It makes such a nice change from reading books set in the US.
In this book we get to know the elusive 3rd Pierce brother Seth, the one who is a billionaire but likes to keep a very low profile. Needless to say his quiet existence is blown out of the water by journalist Victoria Verity who is employed to create a public profile for him.
I loved Seth and Victoria’s story. For a billionaire, Seth is very grounded and down to earth. Yes, he has expensive things but doesn’t flaunt his wealth. Victoria is vibrant and a total breath of fresh air.
While I love reading a good dark romantic suspense, I also love a light hearted, romantic comedy and that’s what you get here. The story flows well and is very entertaining keeping you turning the page and wanting more.
I’d definitely recommend this book.

Murder Creek (Audio Book) by Jane Suen – Review by Dr. Anya Schultz

Murder Creek is a story about a college student named Eve, who is working on a term paper. She states that she always gets weird feelings about different events in time, like murder. She ended up feeling something eerie at Murder Creek. This feeling was so strong she started to research the history of Murder Creek and became curious about the disappearance of a young teen girl named Lacey. This brought her to visit Murder Creek and start to investigate this unsolved case. Much of the town was very quiet about this story, but Eve’s determination started to open people up to giving some answers. I enjoyed this book. As someone who loves to solve puzzles, I had fun trying to figure out where the story was going to take me. There are many characters that play a part in this book so I would say pay attention. Also I liked how with new information I was finding myself revamping my theory. While I did not fall in love with any of the characters, they all played a good role. I enjoyed the story line and it was a quick read.

Love is Worth Fighting for (The Meraki Series Book 3) by Effie Kammenou – Review by Lisa Helmick

Love is Worth Fighting forLove is Worth Fighting for by Effie Kammenou
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this for the writing style. The author makes me feel the emotion of the character plights and the sense of family through the Greekness including the finalization of the grandpa story.

I just struggled falling into the purish love that Loukas has for Krystina. Being only eighteen their forever love just struck me as too young. Maybe if they were in their twenties and lived some life first that would be more believable.

As for the characters themselves Loukas family drama felt real as is his frustrations with what to do for himself. At times he seemed much older than eighteen( fixing up the house, drywall etc) and other times very much the teenager he is. Krystina seemed very much the teenager she is. We do get finished stories for a lot of other characters that are not family.

I was not a huge fan of the back and forth between time for the two main characters. It just seemed to take away maybe if it was told at the beginning then fell into their story it would have meshed better for me. The back in time for the grandparents was okay and fit fine.

I do like that it was written and had the same issues as current times. (Covid) Overall I live this whole family but honestly feel if the main character ls were even a bit older by the end of the book I could have liked this better.

This book certainly brought on its own level of intrigue and wonder! The author wrote a wonderful story, with a very good visual aspect as well. I loved reading of the Realm and its inhabitants of the creature that resided there. The story had its own magic, and great character depth and development as well!

What I loved most was the flow of the story. It was at a good pace where you got to know the characters that you met and came across. Yarissa was a wonderful character. Her sense of determination was very admirable, but when she goes on the quest that is assigned to her, though it was against her preference, she grows so much, and finds things deep from within her. I found that remarkable and realistic at the same time. I really valued the author put that character growth such as that in there. I was hooked all the way through, the book certainly kept me interested. I need the next book right now, as per how it ended, I must seriously learn rather quick how things turned out! The writing was magical! Loved this book!

Truly a wonderful book, that is full of magic and adventure. I highly am recommending this book to be read with no doubt at all! The author is very highly recommended as well. Both are a must read!

This was simply one of the best romance stories I have read in my entire life! The story was sweet, but very realistic, and a good build up. The story brought on emotions, ones that my heart held dear as well. The characters really brought the story to life! I was hooked and getting to the end, was bitter sweet.

Loved the writing that the author possessed and how they made the story come to life. Feelings and all! The author really put forth obstacles any couple may face, especially in this case with a celebrity’s story. The characters had that undeniable attraction and chemistry, but also needed to find the ground they stand on that would have room for them both. Destiny and Nicco were great. Undeniably great. I loved their scenes together and as they grew as characters, and they grew into the strong bond in which they held and were. Amazing and wonderful read! Loved it so very much! Could not put it down! So good!

I loved this story, and reading it was a delicate and happy read at the same time. I could not get enough of this book or put it down. I constantly wanted more. I got so much out of this wonderful author’s story. I can’t wait to read more by them Highly recommend this must read book! Do not pass it up! Seriously!

Sydney thought she was going away for a week vacation but she walked into a sick revenge game. Kage , part of a trio of brothers out for revenge, fell for Sydney. This dark romance is full of intense twists, turns and lots of unknown adventures. The steam is there as well. I found the story exciting and found myself wanting to find out what was coming up next. The twists are what kept me going. The characters were fairly well-developed. Spoiled rich kids with secrets were due to get their come-uppance. You found yourself rooting for the ones you didn’t expect to. The book has an air of suspense and that’s what I loved about it.
