Two Dinosaur Stories in One Book. Flip it over and read another story. These dinosaurs are best friends, but sometimes they disagree.

A present for the Volcano

Spike (an ankylosaurus) sees a volcano erupting. He thinks it is unhappy.  He wants to give the volcano a present to cheer it up.  He gets his friend Conifer (a tyrannosaurus) to help him build a necklace of stones around the base of the volcano. When it does erupt, the stones block the lava flow.

Saving Conifer’s Eggs

Spike and Conifer smell smoke and know they must leave the forest. But Conifer is sitting on her eggs. She has three eggs and only two hands.  When she lifts her nest, she must walk carefully so they don’t clack together. Spike is impatient and swings his tail back and forth.  He knocks down a Ginko tree. The two friends decide to take the fallen tree to the river and use it to float away from the fire.

Lois is a former high school chemistry teacher and former head science teacher at Science in the City Summer Camp in Philadelphia. She has also been an adjunct science teacher at University of South Florida. Since retiring, she continues to take science classes. Her class in Forensic Biology led to Little Red, The Detective, in which Red is studying fingerprint identification, so she can tell that “Grandma” isn’t who she says she is.

Lois has taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales. She has invented what she calls Science Folktales. In each science-based tale, the protagonist achieves a better ending than the original because of learning scientific principles. She has turned some of these tales into plays.

She has also created a series of Mermaid Science stories, which make use of water science.

Lois is married to the love of her life. She has two children, four grandchildren and a dog.

This trilogy was written as a warning about the potential dangers in our food and how this situation has been allowed to flourish.

Megan Mackie is a Chicago writer. She started her writing career as an indie author and had such smashing success in her first year with her inaugural book The Finder of the Lucky Devil, that she made the transition to traditional publishing. She has become a personality at many cons, recognizable by her iconic leather hat and engaging smile. She has written five novels including: The Finder of the Lucky Devil, The Saint of Liars, The Devil’s Day, Death and the Crone, and Saint Code: The Lost through Blue Phoenix Publishing. Hieronymus had a rather idyllic childhood, growing up in the woods of West Virginia. He spent most of his time outside as a kid, playing sports usually, basketball, whiffle-ball, and a lot of two-hand touch football, among many other things. He loved to draw and read, science fiction mostly, when he wasn’t playing sports or board games.

He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy with a degree in Economics, then went on to a thirty-year career as an Air Force pilot, where he got to travel all over the globe.

He was married for twenty-eight years before losing his wife to breast cancer, but he is the father of four grown children.

In June of 2015 he completed an MFA in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University. It took him a long time to figure out what he wanted to be when he grew up. Effacement is his debut novel.

When he’s not writing, he is probably listening to music, reading, or surfing the web. He also draws in pencil and pastel chalk and enjoys a good poker game.

Hadley Thorne was born in the great state of Mississippi, self-identifies as a steel magnolia, and

reads Zombie fiction to deal with anxiety and stress. Some of her favorite movies are Big

Trouble in Little China, Flash Gordan, and the Evil Dead. She believes laughter is the best

medicine, music is food for the soul, and that everything you need to know about someone can

be figured out by playing Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody when you are alone with them in the

car.

Before the pandemic, Hadley enjoyed spending time with the family of friends she has created

throughout her lifetime and has even been known to attend the occasional medieval

re-enactment or renaissance fairs. Besides hiking, she loves spending time in her garden,

exploring all things spooky and strange, and learning about dreams, energy healing, and

shamanism.

J. Ullman grew up and still lives in Southwest Ohio. Those experiences and settings color his works of creative writing. A. J. has worked in a variety of endeavors, from restaurants, to libraries, to law offices, to community mental health centers to family practice medical offices. A. J. is a lawyer as well as a certified family nurse practitioner concentrating work these days in the medical field, treating patients in a primary care setting, including mental health disorders.

 

Experiences with psychiatric nursing have left indelible impressions on A. J. and are the subject of of his endeavors in novel writing.

Amy Michelle Carpenter is a developmental editor with Eschler Editing and a professional blogger. She’s written hundreds of blogs and news articles for local and national companies. She also has a children’s story in an anthology.

 

 

As the daughter of an Army officer, she grew up traveling the country and has lived by sandy beaches, southern woods, towering cities, and the rocky mountains.
