Disgraced prosecutor and disabled Army veteran Grace Locke is one misstep away from losing her law license for good. Fresh out of jail, living in a no-tell-motel, and eating ramen, Grace has no option but to turn to the dark side, defending the types of criminals she used to relish locking up. To make things worse, she’s fighting the opioid addiction that got her in this mess in the first place. With few options to salvage her career, Grace schemes to defend a trust-fund teen accused of capital murder to pay the bills. But her plan has two flaws. One—Grace believes accused equals guilty. Two—the accused is the daughter of the beauty queen who stole Grace’s husband.
Much to her surprise, Grace soon discovers her client may not be guilty after all. With the cops looking the other way and misdirecting her every step, the only explanation that makes sense to Grace is the dead guy was neck deep in the criminal underworld.
When Grace discovers irrefutable evidence of her client’s innocence, the race is on to find the real killer and leads her deep inside Florida’s illegal pill mill trade. But is it too late for Grace to save her young client from the death chamber and herself from ruin?

“I dream of waking up and being someone else—my hair, my eyes, even my voice, completely different—and each time I go to the mirror to check my reflection, to see what I look like, I’m her. Every time. Her. It’s her reflection that stares back at me, but I’m the one who controls it. I’m in control, and that’s exactly why it feels so good. I control her and what happens to me; I control both lives—mine and hers—and I have what I want the most: her looks, her status, her marriage. There’s nothing left of me, and only I know the secret. When Cady Fox leaves dinner with the senior attorneys at her law firm one spring night, the only thing on her mind is: Will they make her a partnership offer the next morning? What she doesn’t expect is to be accosted on her bike ride home in an inner-city park by a man whose nefarious intent requires her to shoot him to death on a deserted basketball court at 11 p.m.
Growing up poor in Appalachia, Cady had few expectations that she would be a success in Big Law. Now, on the cusp of her greatest moment, she becomes the focus of a police investigator tired of people claiming white privilege when killing Black men and a public outcry for justice for the dead man.
For Cady Fox, her world cracked open long before she found herself face to muzzle with a .45 on the concrete jungle of a desolate urban basketball court at an hour before midnight one spring night. The line between stand your ground and murder always blurs in the moment of a confrontation. Cady is forced to navigate the criminal justice system and the societal tensions that come with that blur, learning how the past eats your soul when your only choices are to run or stand your ground.
I’m a midwestern nurse practitioner and lawyer who writes in my spare time. Following a bout with a pesky brain tumor, I changed careers and, realizing how tenuous all our grips on life are, including my own, I decided to start writing. I had so many stories to tell! Who knew how long I would have to get them out? I have one Indie published novel to my credit, Drifting, Falling — Diary Of A Call Girl Suicide. My occupations have afforded me the opportunity to work with people with mental health disorders. Those experiences shape the themes that I explore in novel writing. We are all damaged, as one of my characters says, with a dead-on smack of truth I have two rescue dogs, one of whose name is Ruger, like the firearms manufacturer. Not a name I would have given him, but no sense changing his name at age three. However, he inspired me to name Cady’s dog Beretta, which fits in very well with the story line of Stand Your Ground, my next novel that just debuted in August.

A friend once told me that the world needs psychopaths, but I’m not sold that the world needed my father. I only know that I did.
Poppy Pratt was a teenager when she watched her father murder her boyfriend. Only a child when she made the call that would put her dad away for the rest of his life. She watched the sheriff lead him off, her father still laughing at the Alabama moon, his arms slick with Shawn’s blood.
Eighteen years later, Poppy is a chiropractor with a thriving practice and a house in the Vermont suburbs. She even goes on the occasional date. So, when a mysterious stranger shows up at her house claiming that her father is stalking him, Poppy blows him off. Her dad is in prison—psychopath or not, he’s no threat. And though this man is writing a book about her dad, she can see no reason for anyone to go after him.
But then Poppy receives an unmarked package, and her carefully constructed world begins to crumble. A severed ear would throw most anyone off their game. The stranger was right—it might not be her dad, but someone is watching, and they’re after Poppy, too. Could it be an angry family member of one of her father’s victims? An obsessed serial killer fan? But even when Poppy’s new author friend is viciously attacked, she can’t call the police. Shawn wasn’t her father’s only victim, and her stalker clearly knows enough to implicate her in her father’s crimes.
It seems she’s destined to go down the same way her father did—with her hands covered in blood. The only question is whether she’ll be the one holding the knife.

Hieronymus had a rather idyllic childhood, growing up in the woods of West Virginia. He spent most of his time outside as a kid, playing sports usually, basketball, whiffle-ball, and a lot of two-hand touch football, among many other things. He loved to draw and read, science fiction mostly, when he wasn’t playing sports or board games.
He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy with a degree in Economics, then went on to a thirty-year career as an Air Force pilot, where he got to travel all over the globe.
He was married for twenty-eight years before losing his wife to breast cancer, but he is the father of four grown children.
In June of 2015 he completed an MFA in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University. It took him a long time to figure out what he wanted to be when he grew up. Effacement is his debut novel.

New York Police Department’s Sixteenth Precinct in Manhattan is under siege by the flu, and Detective Nick Larson and his partner, Detective Victor Sacco, are up to their armpits with work overload. The captain’s cigar is seriously chewed, and everyone is working around the clock. To complicate matters, on a personal level, things aren’t going smoothly, either. Laura Howard, the woman Nick loves, is also having issues with a psycho twin sister who is doing everything to ruin Laura’s business and her life.
Then Nick’s captain assigns a new case, a suicide. From the moment Nick steps on scene, however, something doesn’t feel quite right, especially when, upon investigating the case further, the supposed suicide looks more and more like an actual homicide. Immediately, Nick’s instincts kick into gear, but rev into overdrive when similar, questionable suicides pop up around the area. And with the way things have been going lately, it would just be Nick’s luck to have a serial killer on the loose.
Set in New York City, Hanging Softly in the Night is a story of murder, mental illness, dedication, perseverance, and, ultimately, justice.
Maria Elena Alonso-Sierra is an award-winning romantic suspense author with a unique point of view. Her suspense novels take place in locales across Europe and the United States, reflecting her international upbringing and extensive time as a global traveler. In her duology, The Coin and The Book of Hours, her characters, Gabriela and Richard, walk the same paths as their creator, though her life was never in so much danger.
Her novels have received several awards, including the Bronze medal for The Coin at the Readers’ Favorite 2018 International Book Awards; and her short story collection, The Fish Tank: And Other Short Stories, was a twice Silver Medal winner–at the Readers’ Favorite 2018 International Book Awards and at the 2018 Feathered Quill Book Awards. This short story collection takes the reader on a ride across all genres, including tragic tales of survival of ordinary Cuban citizens in the 1960s (based on the author’s own experience of exile). NY Literary Magazine describes The Fish Tank: And Other Short Stories as “a gracefully-written, varied collection of entertaining, touching, suspenseful and thought-provoking short stories.”
The author’s creepy short story, “Retribution Served”, is featured in the anthology Book Dreams: Volume 1, and is available through all retailers.
Ms. Alonso-Sierra’s writing career began circa age thirteen with a very juvenile science fiction short story, but the writing bug hit, and she has been writing, in one capacity or another, ever since. She has worked as a professional dancer, singer, journalist, and literature teacher in both the university and middle school levels (and not necessarily in that order) and holds a Masters in English literature. She loves to hear from readers and, when not writing, roams around to discover new places to set her novels.
Her detective novel, Hanging Softly in the Night: A Detective Nick Larson Novel, and its prequel short story, “Mirror, Mirror,” are currently available worldwide.
Ms. Alonso-Sierra, as always, is working on the next project. She lives in South Florida with her husband and her dog, Amber.

When Michele was 3 years old, she taught herself to read because she wanted to write stories so badly. It took some time (and some detours) but now she does spend much of her time writing stories: mainly psychological thrillers, domestic thrillers, mysteries and romantic suspense novels (and sometimes mixing all three genres into one book!). If that wasn’t enough, she also hosts a virtual book club you can check out and join (for free!) at MPWNovels.com.
Michele holds a double major in English and Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently she lives in the mountains of Prescott, Arizona with her husband Paul and southern squirrel hunter Cassie.
