Curse of the Sands (Relic Hunters Book 2) by Martin Ferguson – Review by Shannen Kern

Curse of the Sands (Relic Hunters, #2)Curse of the Sands by Martin Ferguson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the Relic Hunters series, and it is even more incredible than the first! There is more action, danger, and adventure with Adam and his team. I do recommend reading the first book as it is good to have the background. The author does attempt to give a little introduction to him in the beginning, but there are pieces I would’ve missed without reading the first book prior to this one. I know this is aimed at a younger crowd, but I am pleased to say I was entertained the entire way through. I read it all in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down! I had to know what happened next and wasn’t going to wait to find out! Adam and his group are in Egypt for this adventure when a sandstorm hits. What is surprising is that a forgotten pyramid is found after these sandstorms, and they want to know what’s going on with it. I highly recommend picking this up because it is just too good to miss!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What an incredible start to a series! I liked the cover of this book, and once I read the summary, I knew I had to dive in. The characters are well-developed, and I felt invested in them immediately. I found myself using every excuse to get away from the real world and pick this book back up. If you find yourself interested in myths, legends, and treasure hunters, this book is one you will not want to pass up. Adam and his buddies are all in high school, but he comes home one day and finds that his older brother is missing. The world that he enters is one he never thought could be real. The author did a phenomenal job creating a story with history and fantasy which is a feat in itself. I highly recommend picking this up even if it doesn’t seem like your cup of tea because I bet you’ll still be completely captivated before you know it!

Betrayal Of The Gods (Relic Hunters Book 5) by Martin Ferguson – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

Betrayal of the Gods (Relic Hunters Book 5)Betrayal of the Gods by Martin Ferguson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Hunter brothers are back and this time they are on their own, the team that they have been with is torn apart as the brothers find out some information which they have been seeking all their lives, and more on top of that. The betrayal is something they didn’t expect and ends up with them walking out and beginning a hunt of their own.

This means that for the first time, the Hunter brothers are lacking in equipment, supplies, information or support, but they do have their smarts, skills and tricks to be able to get the help they need. The journey starts out at home where they are shown something both close to their hearts and miles away at the same time, however, it just solidifies their determination to find out the answers they long for.

As usual, nothing is simple and straightforward, however, they do find someone else who can give them their first waypoint and so the chase begins. They realise that although they know a lot about mythology, this chase is going to lead them on an epic journey of discovery where myth and reality collide and with both their friends and enemies hot on their trail, will the two brothers be able to uncover all the information they need, or will this journey be their last one?

This is a cross country race against time as the hunters become the hunted in this dangerous and life altering journey in the footsteps of history.

Betrayal of the Gods is the fifth book in the Relic Hunters series by Martin Ferguson. It is a superb young adult adventure- with plenty of action, historical details, Greek mythology, drama, mystery, danger, investigation, intrigue, tension, dynamic characters, a complex plot, and a race against time.
I was excited to see this book pop up on my recommended books as I have really enjoyed the rest of the series- so diving into this story was a no-brainer. As I have mentioned many times before, and will probably do again- this series would make a really great movie, TV series, or adventure/RPG game. Mr. Ferguson attention to detail is apparent in his cleverly crafted tales- his world building/storytelling is rich and vividly detailed- making for quite an engrossing read.
This action-packed adventure kept me glued to the pages from beginning to end as Adam and Matt are thrust into an epic adventure that will test them like never before. In a race against time, these two are about to face their biggest challenge. What happens makes for a great read.
I really recommend this series to anyone who loves YA, adventure, and history. And even though you could read this as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the previous books before starting on this one- as this is definitely a series you won’t want to miss a moment.
Bring on Book #6!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Martin Ferguson!

Betrayal of the Gods (Relic Hunters Book 5)Betrayal of the Gods by Martin Ferguson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the fifth book in the Relic Hunters series. As a lover of history this series has been a favourite of mine since book 1. The author does an incredible job of mixing history with adventure. Their attention to detail in every area really brings history to life and I love being transported back in time. In this book we mainly deal with Greek history and mythology and the surprising realisation that not all myths are stories. Some are actually true.
Adam and Matt face their biggest challenge to date as they have to go alone to solve the mystery of what happened to their day. Without the help of their team or equipment the odds are really stacked against them. With people taking other the museum, trying to take all the things they have preserved from history and secrets and lies being unravel the brothers are not stuck with not knowing who they can trust. Can they even trust their own team mates or boss. Or is their boss hiding more secrets from them.
This is a fast paced story as the brothers race against time to solve the mystery of what happened to their dad, while facing the the myths and legends from Greek Mythology and if that is not enough they are seen as outlaws and their old friends and team mates are tasked with stopping them from completing their tasks and getting to the truth.
This book is an enjoyable read for young adults and old adults alike. The story is captivating and full of twists and turns that keep me on the edge of my seat. Once you start this series you will not be able to stop reading it.

Relic Hunters: Betrayal of the Gods (Relic Hunters Series) by Martin Ferguson – Review by Maisie Dickinson

Betrayal of the Gods (Relic Hunters Book 5)Betrayal of the Gods by Martin Ferguson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Betrayal of the Gods is the fifth instalment of Martin Ferguson’s Relic Hunters series. The majority of the book follows Adam, and his brother, Matt, who set off to finish the mission their father started: to find the lost city of Atlantis. But the book also follows Princess Alaina of Atlantis and her experience of the Trojan War. It was really interesting reading these stories alongside each other, centuries apart, and seeing how they connected. My favourite character is Adam and my least favourite character is Elizabeth. I recommend this book because I love Greek mythology and this is a really interesting take on it, I think Martin did really well incorporating history and mythology into his own fantasy series. I’d really like to read the sixth and final instalment of the series, to see if Adam and Matt really did find Atlantis. ‘I had not known love before him. If he should fall, I would not want to live on without him.’

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I had almost forgotten about this series until I saw this book out and knew I had to get it. Martin knows how to write an enticing tale in this genre. I was so excited to jump in.
Betrayal of the Gods is the fifth book in the amazing Relic Hunters series. Whether you are a YA or in your sixties like me this adventure story is another exciting tale in this excellent series. This is my favourite in the series to date, but I do tend to think that with the others.
Martin gives his readers plenty of thrills, mystery, drama and danger that jumps off the page. Add in some twists and turns in this complex and engaging storyline and you have an action-packed story that has been cleverly woven into a tale that cannot be missed. With historical facts mixed in Martin has created something so engrossing that you will not want to put it down.
Adam and Matt are in the fight for their lives this time. It is the brothers against the world and now they don’t know who is friend or foe as they race against time learning myth and legends to find what they are after but with everyone against them things are not as hopeful as they should be.
This one will have the blood pumping as you race against hope with them.
I can’t wait for more from Martin.

The Uncrowned King was SOO INCREDIBLE! I finished the Blood Prince and immediately dove into the Uncrowned King, and it only got better. I could not stop reading. The world building is just as great in the 2nd as the first, the characters are just as loveable or hateable. The hateable ones? Yeah. REALLY hate them. So much passion and emotion in this book, I was literally in tears at the end. I cannot wait for the next one! Great job by Ayla Marie! Will definitely be on the lookout for more from her!

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this author created a magnificent adventure with detailed characters that I was immediately fully invested in. The single thing I didn’t like about this book was the cover. I almost didn’t pick it up because something put me off, but I’m glad I took the chance anyway. Claudia Zimmerman is a doctor, or at least she used to be before she was thrust out of her profession after being blamed for something which wasn’t her fault, all thanks to her employer wanting to save face rather than admit a mistake. The main drawback to this is that it has meant she has had to stay in hiding under an assumed name and not spending long periods in any one place.

As part of her disgraced status, she finds a job on a ship for medical personnel and decides it might be her only way off of the station she is currently in and escape her woes, however, that was not to be and instead she finds that the captain knows exactly who she is and what she has done, or at least been railroaded for. She is in shock and has no idea how to respond until the captain decides to go in for a little blackmail and threatens to turn her in if she doesn’t join his crew and so reluctantly, she does exactly that.

As the days and weeks pass, Claudia becomes more used to her situation and her role, as well as the challenges which come with it, including and almost permanent state of stress and anxiety about what the captain will threaten her with next, but she does her job well and looks after the crew. Normally, she isn’t allowed off the ship while they are on jobs, but one day, she is requested, and she knows full well that what she is about to do is something she will have qualms about. It turns out she is right, and her assignment is distasteful and downright abhorrent, especially when it turns out that the reason she is there, is for her to run checks on a new, sentient and humanoid species for a very specific purpose.

The more time she spends with these individuals, the more she comes to feelings of protectiveness and is loath to let the captains plan come to fruition, but will she be able to do that and stay alive while looking after these beautiful, birdlike creatures, or will she end up out of her depth? This is an epic sci-fi adventure full of plots, secrets, lies and revelations as one woman seeks to protect a new species from a less that positive fate while battling her internal mechanisms and biases, which spins a story full of unpredictability and emotional ups and downs throughout.

This was a very gripping sci fi read. The author has a great talent for twisting the story that keeps the reader guessing. The authors detail was another thing I loved as it really brought the story to life. I felt like I was seeing and witnessing everything the characters were.
The first thing that gripped me was the story of Claudia Zimmerman. What had she done or been accused of that has led her to the dark depths she finds herself in now. When the captain of the ship blackmails her into working for him else he will reveal what she is running from, that was where I was completely gripped.. I wanted to know what she was running from.

When she joins the crew on the ship she is horrified at how ancient the medbay is and comes to a realisation quickly that the captain is a hard and ruthless man. Her plan is to do her job and stay away from him and off his rador.
But that doesn’t last long when she is sent onto a unchartered planet and they find a new species. Claudia is so happy and can’t wait to learn all about them that is until she realises the captain plans on using them as slaves.

Knowing how he treats his crew and people she is determined for this new species to not meet the same fate but by standing in the captain’s way she is opening herself up to danger.

Can she save herself and her new friends? Or will the Captain destroy them all?

This story is fast paced and really gripping with twists and turns you don’t see coming. I don’t normally enjoy sci fi reads however this one really had me hooked and I couldn’t put it down

Alien RedemptionAlien Redemption by Gloria Oliver
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

To start with – I don’t love science fiction and wasn’t too sure about reading this book. But, I’m glad I spend some time with it. It was pleasantly surprising. “Alien Redemption” by Gloria Oliver is a science fiction novel that takes readers on a thrilling journey through space and introduces them to the resilient and endearing character, Claudia. The author’s skillful storytelling weaves together a fast-paced story filled with drama, twists, and turns that will keep scifi lovers hooked until the last page.

Claudia, the main character, faces adversity after being wrongly implicated by her deceitful employers. As she strives to rebuild her life, readers empathize with her struggles and root for her redemption. She is what kept me reading.

The author does a great job of building a picture of a mysterious planet and its unique sentient alien beings. Her attention to detail brings the vivid colors and intricacies of the aliens to life. The contrast between Claudia’s genuine efforts to help the aliens and the captain’s contemptible actions adds depth to the narrative, eliciting a range of emotions from readers.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Overall, “Alien Redemption” by Gloria Oliver is a gripping science fiction novel that kept me engaged with its empathetic heroine, clever twists and turns, and cosmic mysteries. I normally don’t read a lot of sci fi, but enjoyed this one.

The story follows Claudia Zimmerman, a disgraced medical researcher who survives behind a mask after being set up for a career-destroying fall by her employers. Seeking a fresh start, Claudia hides her true identity and hopes to secure a job on a merchant vessel. However, her plans take a turn when she is recognized and threatened with blackmail by the ship’s captain, forcing her to reluctantly join the crew.

One of the strengths of the novel is its well-developed protagonist. Claudia is a complex and empathetic character, and readers will find themselves rooting for her from the beginning. Her growth throughout the story is realistic and relatable, and her determination to do what is right in the face of adversity adds depth to the narrative.

The plot is full of unexpected twists and turns, and kept me on my toes throughout. The writing style is smooth and descriptive, allowing me to easily visualize the settings. The dialogue is natural and helps to bring the characters to life. Additionally, the author’s attention to detail is evident, creating a rich and vivid world for readers to explore.

Alien Redemption is a science fiction novel by Gloria Oliver. The story unfolds around Claudia, also known as Dr. Z, who is trying to find a way to make a living while hiding from her past under a false identity. Her options are limited, as avoiding a background check is crutial. An opportunity to become a medic on a merchant ship is in front of her, however the captain claims to know who she is and essentially blackmails her into taking the position. And Captain Bennett’s antics do not seem to end there. The Captain seems to enjoy showing the lengths his cruelty can extend to when they happen across an Avian race on a secret mission. How far will he go, and what can Claudia do to protect these beautiful creatures?

I really enjoyed the entire book! The pages turned and turned. I stayed intrigued and guessing. The character and plot development was spot-on! I definitely recommend for sci-fi fans who love a fast, but no less interesting read.
