The Charm Collector series is fast becoming one of my favorite urban fantasy book series. Wicked Treasure is book 2 and is just as much, if not more, exciting as Diabolical Sword (book 1). Harlow and Caspian are now on the run trying to locate magic treasure related to their friend, Cutlass. Kayda is pissed because Harlow ghosted her. Though, not much time for that because the Collective is creating chaos in Luma. There is drama, mystery and adventure no matter where you turn. I found myself on the edge of my seat, unable to stop reading because I had to keep going…one page more…what’s going to happen next..This story is so well-written. It engages you right from the start. The characters involved are so quirky and full of personality that you can’t help but love them all. I love following the conversations with the sword. The author builds a wonderful world with the story through her descriptions and art of story-telling. I will eagerly be awaiting book 3 of the series. Highly recommend this series.

Melissa has had a love of stories for as long as she can remember, but only started penning her own during her freshman year of college. She majored in Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology at UC Davis. Yet, while she was neck-deep in organic chemistry and physics, she kept finding herself writing stories in the back of the classroom about fairies and trolls and magic. She finished her degree, but it never captured her heart the way writing did.
Now she owns her own dog walking business (that’s sort of wildlife related, right?) by day … and afternoon and night … and writes whenever she gets a spare moment. This book was so clever with how it was written, and the paranormal aspect of it was very much done perfectly. The book brought on a lot of intrigue and kept me guessing all the way through!
Reading about Dexter was amazing! I loved his backstory and learning about him, who he was and is, and what his whole story line was about! The book intrigued me, as well as kept me interested. and I kept on reading to see what would happen next! Something I love that the amazing author does in their books, is how each character’s story in a book relates to another. I think it is creative and very clever! Honestly this author is amazing at all they do and create! I love this series and this book! Truly love it!
I cannot say enough good things about this amazing author and the stories that they create! Each one leaves me wanting more. You must read this book and series for sure! Highly recommend!

“Dex’s father took his hand, tried to pull the ring off again. ‘It’s the ring! Where’d you get this? It’s evil magic.” That sentence explains the story. I love a good book that can pull you in and just keep stringing you along to the end. This one did just that by keeping the story adventurous and challenging. The family and school drama itself made for some wonderful writing. The series will flow better if you read the first book in the series. This book is #1.5 in the order. The way the story pretty much picks up and continues from the last book is smooth sailing. The author throws in a few plot twists that can surprise you. What makes the book great is that the story picks up but the POV changes. Fantastic tale that left me with a cliffhanger. Time to read the next book. If you love paranormal romance, you might like this. It is geared to young adults but the adults enjoy it too.

This is a great follow up to the first book in this series. After the horrific events at the end of the first book, and all that Melody and her best friends Lance and Imani were put through, this book shows us a bit more about the recovery process and the healing of the friendships between our main characters. Not only do we see how Junior and Senior year of college goes for them, but how the first few years after school turned out as well. This book is told from Lance’s perspective, for the most part, but has input from Imani and Melody as well. While I definitely don’t agree with all of the characters life choices, and at times found myself wanting to smack some sense into a few of them, I also found myself getting so lost in the story that the real world ceased to exist until I had to put the book down to do real world things. I can’t wait to see how this series ends.

An enjoyable and engaging read, which kept me happily turning the pages. Having read book one, it was nice to be back with the three friends, Lance, Imani, and Melody. The storyline continues from the previous book, and the friends are all coming to terms with the traumatic events that occurred. Having nearly lost his two friends, Lance is determined to protect them, along with fulfilling his dream of becoming a professional footballer. Imani, is continuing with her chemical engineering degree and the hope of a promising career. Melody has been left shattered but is even more determined to find true love like her parents. As the friends try to recover from the unimaginable, their friendship is tested. Lance’s promiscuity may not only affect his NFL dreams, but also endanger the girls again. Meanwhile, Melody is at risk of making the same mistakes that nearly got her killed, and Imani’s racist preconceptions may prevent her academic progress. This is an emotional rollercoaster of a read, full of drama and angst, but fundamentally the friendship element shines through. The characters are all likeable and relatable, making me feel engaged with them and their lives. I look forward to book three, and with ‘catching up’ with the trio of friends again.

This is the 2nd book in the Colors Trilogy. We are back with Lance, Imani and Melody as they try to navigate college life. Dealing with new stresses, Romance, demons of the past and their future the 3 friends are going through their life’s facing different situations and finding and losing love.
After the devastating events of the last book it has sent shock waves through the 3 friends. Now they are all trying to rebuild their lives and all the challenges that they will come against. As young adults there is a lot of angst. Love and romance are confusing concepts. One thing none of the friends want is a repeat of the last time one of them fell in love. With Melody’s past relationship and the terrible end that came too she is reluctant to let another man close to her. Is she right to keep herself guarded and closed off? Imani is always strong and sensible but when she gets into a long- distance relationship with DJ she finds herself feeling and confronting emotions she’s never felt before .
And finally Lance. Lance is definately a ladies man. However now he main focus is looking after his girls and becoming a professional athlete. So how will he react when there is another danger aimed at his girls or when his promiscuous history comes back to bite him.
This story is full of emotion as they all deal with their own problems but their love for each other and unwavering support shines though the pages.

I love love love this author and this series! The Colors of Love was beautiful! I can’t wait to read book 3, I may even restart before I get my hands on book 3. Dealing with the aftermath of book 1, Lance, Melody, and Imani end up on adventures over the next few years of school. The time crunch in this one is definitely quicker than book 1. Race definitely becomes an issue in the book. Imani is a strong presence. Imani even struggles with it herself. Can’t see past it, on how she should only be dating her own race all others are off limits. It’s definitely a learning experience for her, and I am glad Melody had a meltdown and opened Imani’s eyes to reality. Melody is still struggling, with her boyfriend blowing his brains out, she needs to let go. But that’s easier said than done. Jumping into a relationship that she didn’t realize had some serious race implications. Then there’s Lance. Lance is still jumping from woman to woman, till junior year spring break changed his life for multiple reasons. He found out his real dad is alive and well, also not a criminal. Also accepted him with open arms into his family fold. Then there’s Imani, he loves her but doesn’t know how to tell her. He feels the night they spent together was a mistake. Will he ever tell Imani, how he truly feels? Will Melody ever be able to get past what happened to Kevin? So many questions and tons of answers, I just refuse to post the spoilers. I want you to jump feet first into a book trilogy that’s worth every penny!

I loved this second book in the series, the continuation of these characters and their stories. I thought this book was even better than the first, and I was pulled back into the story straight away. I couldn’t wait to see what the author did with the story and what was next for the three friends. This book is just as well written as the first and I found myself even more drawn to the characters than before. I really like how it feels like you truly get to know these characters with each passing page. I have enjoyed everything about this series so far and I cannot wait to read the next book.

I was very excited to read book 2 in this wonderful series, the first book was amazing from start to finish. So I had high hopes when I picked this one up, and needless to say, I was not disappointed! The amazing author created a sensational story once again, and I could not put this one down either.
I loved that this book continued the characters and what happened in the first, and continued. I enjoyed that we got to read about Lance and his story this time around. I really felt for him. And everything he was going through, as well as endured. The book really makes you feel a lot of emotions. Even when they’re painful, you don’t want to turn away, you want more, you want to feel. That’s the power this book and author can have over you. It’s rare and with its power, it’s enlightening as well. The story and writing is captivating. I love how I have the ability to connect with the lead character each book surrounds. I really love that. The book was amazing, and I felt so much! I couldn’t put it down! Loved it!
This author really has captured my interest since the first book in the series, and I know my interest will continue to be held. This book and series gives so much, it is impossible not to enjoy it! Wonderful read, highly recommend this must read book, series and author!

I was completely absorbed throughout this entire book. While I had reservations from the first in the series, the second one has blown me away! Very rarely do I find a series that gets so much better after the first book. This dives deeper into each storyline, and I loved it!
Our favorite trio are back in college after traumatic events, and they are trying to find a way to support each other but still get on with their lives. Lance is doing everything he can to protect his girls and keep his eye on the ball, but something keeps nagging in the back of his mind. Imani continues to be close with her group and finds a new task in challenging her limiting stance on racial issues as well as finding a man that can keep up with her. Melody keeps settling for much less than she deserves but her friends just can’t reach her to snap her out of it. Will any of them make the progress they want or are they bound to stay unhappy with only each other to rely on?
This was a twisting, turning, wonderful story to read and I am reaching for the third in the trilogy right now. You will not be disappointed picking this up because you won’t want to put it down!

I strongly suggest you read these books in order as the end of the first book is the start of this book. The Colors of Love is the second book in this contemporary romance trilogy.
Melody, Imani and Lance are back after surviving the horrors and still trying to cope with what happened in the first book. Their friendship is still strong but they find themselves with more horrors and hardships that test them. This book is Lance’s story but it seemed that Imani had a more starring role. This another journey through good times and bad times and times that will test themselves and their friendship.
There is a lot going on in this book and lots of characters showing up. There are so many emotions in this story. There is also a bit of everything going on with lies and deceit, angst and sadness, suicide and angst, drama and grief, heartache, love, jealousy and turmoil. There is racism, violence and suicide and interracial relationships and more. It is an engaging story that tackles a lot of issues and keep the pages turning.

This is book 2 of this amazing series. The author has done another outstanding job with her writing. Lance, Imani, and Melody are still trying to deal with the aftereffects of the trauma and the choices they make in their life. I found the story to feel truly realistic and original. You can feel your own heart palpitating at some of the action in the book. At some times, you feel the angst or other feelings that they go through. The plot is well-written, with even a few twists thrown in. I found the characters relatable. I was engrossed in the story right from the start. I cannot wait to start book 3. Well, done!

What an intriguing introduction to this series. In this prequel to the Vigilant series L.M. introduces us to EmVee and her family as they move to a new area; Newport the family manage a gym, they are all interested in boxing and MMA. At school EmVee meets Rachel and Megan although they do not like each other, Silas and Kayson (both are into sports and members of a band). All is not quite As it seems. The business her family are managing is also owned by Dean, who owns a local club, where the boys band plays, some of the locals seem stronger than they should, there are dead bodies found in the woods, having been mauled. EmVee decides to investigate what is happening, will she manage to discover what is happening? This book has great character development and the story certainly keeps you hooked and wanting more.

The story just keeps getting better and better. We continue to follow EmVee after the disappearance of her mother and family they are presumed dead. Left with only her father, they move often and follow the MMA underground fighting scene. After her father is shot and carried off by a mysterious woman EmVee and her friend Demi, Sax (Demi’s boyfriend) and Kayson work as a team to find out and enact revenge on this woman or those she works for. And she needs to find out if her father is alive, as well as determine what has happened to her family when she is told that they are alive/ The past continues to throw things at EmVee, the issues from Silas, and people from her past. Who and what can she trust? Another really enjoyable read. I cannot wait for more.

EmVee is back in installment two of this Vigilant series. After the attack by Silas EmVee and her dad have been on the run, but darkness is brewing inside her and something doesn’t feel right after being bitten. Then her dad is shot right in front of her and dragged away leaving her with no one to trust or turn to. Insert Kayson who she didn’t trust when she met him previously but he has info about her family and how to help her. Can she trust him to uncover all the secrets she’s still plagued with. This book was much better than the first with strongly developed characters action snark mystery and a little romance. Can’t wait to read the next one

EmVee has moved to Newport with her family. She’s a strong athlete and it generally consumes her life But she may be willing to give up some time for two big gorgeous guys that have taken her interest.
But nothing in this town is what it seems. Why did they move here, what has her father gotten them into? Why are athletes disappearing or dead with littered body parts all over… and why does this annoying girl she’s met seem to know so much.
This was a quick read, though I enjoyed it I felt like I didn’t get to understand the characters very well as they weren’t developed enough and you were left wondering many things which I hope is remedied in the next book! Overall 4 stars!

This wonderful author really gives it all, some fighting, great character development, a mystery and more made it impossible to put this book down. While the first installment to this series is a small novella, this installment was a very detailed novel that I just simply couldn’t put down. Full of other worlds, all kinds of characters, humor and more trust me when I say that you need to run and pick this one up today.

I totally devoured this book just like the last one. Once again, these characters were amazing. A very amazing, fast paced, page turner, action filled, story that kept me on the edge of my seat that I couldn’t put it down. It was filled with so many twists and turns and kept me guessing what was going to happen it really felt like a rollercoaster ride of events. This book was amazing and highly recommend it.

This book was amazing. A very intriguing, full of action, suspense, thriller mystery. It is a good short book that makes a good start for this series. The characters are very interesting and are very wonderful. There is an underlining mystery to these characters that really kept me wanting to know more about them. I was very hooked and couldn’t put this book down for the life of me and kept me on the edge of my seat. I really can’t wait to read more into this series. Very enjoyable.

This was definitely a fast paced, action packed adventure that had so many twists and turns, I couldn’t put the book down! EmVee was such a great heroine, who keeps working so hard despite all of the trauma and setbacks. She is struggling to understand the changes in herself ever since her attack and she has lost everyone she loves. She now has to work with her ex’s best friend to try and uncover the secrets she needs to get the answers to, while working through her feelings for him as well. This was a roller coaster of emotions and an amazing start to the series! I can’t wait to read the rest of the books!

I really enjoyed this book. I always love to read a paranormal story that has something different and this novel had that in spades. I also like strong women warriors which this book had as well. The story was interesting and kept my attention. I look forward to the next story in this series and reading more from this author.

This was the second book by LM Preston that I have read, the first being Insatiable Darkness, the lead in novella of this series. Caged Fire begins one year after the events of the first book. While this book could be read as the first of the series, Insatiable Darkness gives more background on the characters and gives more understanding to several story points in this book.
EmVee and her father are on the run, but as always EmVee doesn’t understand what they are running from. Her entire family survived the car accident at the end of Insatiable Darkness, only to be in the hospital later when it exploded, her father got her out first but was unable to get the others before the explosion. Her mother Stella, her siblings Dexter, Reece and Rei were “killed”. Now, Max, her father, has come out of retirement and is fighting again to make money for them, though no one is to know she is his daughter. EmVee is no longer the clueless human, not since Silas “scorched a trail of fear into her soul”, fear like nothing she has ever known before. Rapidly, her father is killed by a mysterious tall blonde who claims to be the secret investor of the family gym. With help from her new friends as her only allies, and with information from Rocky the bouncer of Club Fixation, (first book), she begins the adventure to find answers not only about her father’s death but everything that has happened since her family left New York. Finding Rocky’s home, she comes face to face with someone else from her past, Kayson. She blames him for the attack from Silas feeling that he knew his best friend was a murderer, only to learn that Kayson barely survived the attack from Silas that killed the rest of their band, just before her date with him. Because of Silas, EmVee and Kayson now have a deeper connection, something within them hungers for the other. After learning that there are several provinces, Fae, Vampire, Earth, etc. Kayson and EmVee must go into the vampire province to fight in hopes of getting the chance to ask the vampire king some questions. With some answers finally they have no choice but to return to the Void, Newport. EmVee shifts into a Fenrir wolf and finally understands her hunger for Kayson, he is her Alpha. Shadow Hunters, Faeries, Rumpelstiltskin, Redcap, Pied Piper, Berserker Gargoyles, Soul Thief Warlord, Soul Trainer Warlord, The Overlord, this is just a list of creatures that you come across in the ultimate hunt for answers. In the basement of the hospital, the same one with the explosion, EmVee and Kayson come across a redcap and goblin like creature that finally gives them some much needed answers and gives EmVee more hope that her family is still alive somewhere.
If you enjoy fast based books with little down, then this is the series for you. The pace never seems too fast or gets boring as you never know what is coming next. This is the perfect combination of mystery and love story. While EmVee is afraid because of Silas she can’t deny her feelings and hunger for Kayson. LM Preston has become one of my favorite authors, her ability to build not only the characters but their surroundings make you feel like you are there, like you know these characters. I can’t wait to read the next book and continue to learn the more about this world, and how it all comes together into the bigger picture.

EmVee is back after barely escaping with her life and after the run in with her ex boyfriend changing her, she had no choice but to run and nobody but her father left to run with her. Since they night, they have been on the run and living with one eye watching behind them at all times, but this can’t last forever and between the fights and sleeping in their car, EmVee and her father hope that this time, they will have enough to leave the country, but all those hopes are dashed and the latest fight.
It all stays off fine with her father fighting and EmVee collecting the money, but when she sees someone from their past in the crowd, she know that something isn’t right and let’s her dad know as soon as she can. He tells her to run, but she won’t leave him behind, so instead she hides while he confronts the ones following them. Unfortunately, he doesn’t survive the confrontation and so EmVee has to find her own safety, so she turns to someone she hopes will be a safe haven, even if only for one night before, she starts her mission to destroy the one who have destroyed her life and her family.
As EmVee follows the clues left behind, she runs into the best friend of her ex, Kayson who says that he can help her get the answers she do desperately seeks, however, they aren’t the answers she expects. A whole new world of supernatural and paranormal beings is opened up to her and if she hadn’t been through what she had, she would have said she was crazy, but if it gets her where she wants to be, then she might just have to start having faith in him.
Can EmVee trust Kayson, did he know what a monster his best friend was and does he know what happened to her to make her the monster she is today? Will they survive long enough to get the answers to both their questions, or will death find them sooner than they expect? This is a fantasy adventure which is full of tension, twists, turns and supernatural beings in this action packed story you will not want to miss.
