Aiko (Heartstrings Series) by Brooke May – Review by Brandy Rymer

Aiko (Heartstrings #1)Aiko by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book puts a whole new twist to Cupid, in this first book in the Heartstrings book series. Aiko is one of the cupids that Cupid created after the needs of the human race and romance became too great for him alone. Aiko is a cupid whose specialty is failed romances, but with dire consequences that lead to her being put into restrictions repeatedly. She is finally released from her most recent restriction and allowed to find Alejandro’s (Al) true love by connecting his heartstrings to the love of his life. Aiko goes about this process like no other cupid, trying to utilize two different women to teach Al what it takes to catch and keep a good woman’s attention without embarrassing himself. This does not work how Aiko intended, in turn creating a bigger mess, which she then needs to work with Al to correct, hopefully before it’s too late, to make amends with the woman that Al is destined to be with. I loved all of the hilarity that befalls our cupid, as well as the person to whom she is tethered, and the experience of seeing all of the follies that come with finding love. This book combines humor, love, and dating all into a delightful new romance series that will leave you looking forward to the next book in the series.

Aiko by Brooke May a sweet and salty read by Brooke May, and it was not what I was expecting, but it ended up being such a great surprise. I don’t like to do things the traditional way and decided to read this book after I had already read the fourth book of the series. I found that I adored Aiko, even during her most annoying times…lol! I found that I warmed up to her, I mean everyone has their run of bad luck, hers just seemed to be worse than others. This was a great story and one that I feel will hook you from the first page and not it won’t let you put it down until the last page. So, if you do decide to pick it up, make sure you have time to fully enjoy it!

LOL This is a fantastic start to what I just know will be a fun series from this wonderful author!

I’ve read a few of Brooke May’s previous books and really enjoyed them. This series did not disappoint! It was such a cute and funny story. Quick and enjoyable read! Aiko is one of Cupid’s helpers when it comes to helping humans find their perfect match. She has had the unfortunate reputation of getting overexcited and overly helpful when it comes to matching her humans and sometimes has ended up in disastrous scenarios. She has been given another chance and wants to prove to everyone that she can set a perfect match without hazardous results. So many funny moments and romantic match made!

Cupid doesn’t work alone. He has six assistants and Aiko is just one of them. Buuut Aiko is a little rough to say the least. Her helping couples find love has lead to some very questionable situations and once or twice she’s been banned from helping humans. Now, for her first return to helping in nearly 50 years, she’s gotta help a man who may be more disastrous in love than she is.

Alejandro Gomez has it all when it comes to looks, but when it comes to love? He’s a mess. Can Aiko help Alejandro find himself and find love?

I loved the idea of this book. A Cupid helping humans find love: great. A Clumsy, tried-too-hard Cupid aiming for redemption: awesome. Unfortunately, the book didn’t hit all of the points I was hoping for.

I found the start of the book to be hard to follow when Aiko was narrating and commenting on Alejandro’s disaster. This cleared up some as the book went on and the author found a rhythm in the story she’s telling.

In other areas, I felt that there were several mistakes in editing that lead to me needing to re-read or spend a little more time on the section to determine what was being said.

Throughout the book there were some really good parts and Aiko was a great character and you could really feel for her when something went wrong. I feel that the errors and beginning of the book really made it hard for me to follow at first, but I’m willing to try again with hook 2 of the cupids.

Aiko is quite possibly the worst choice Cupid could have made in an assistant. He needs some help though and Aiko is looking to make up for some past wrongs. When she runs into Alejandro, she has a newfound determination to do right for once. After all, she’s been eyeing him lately anyway.

This is a lighthearted, clean romantic comedy that is a bit of a welcome relief after some heavy reading and things that have been going on in my life. This is also a new-to-me author but not for long as I’m looking forward to reading more of her work in this series.

Aiko is the first book of the Heartstrings series. It follows Aiko who is one of the cupids who were created to assist Cupid with his job. Aiko seems to make a disaster happen every time that she has an assignment, instead of the desired love connection. She first meets Alejandro (who she calls Al) while he is on a date with a woman named Felicia. When Al tries to play in a Mariachi band on the date it ends in disaster, and the gesture is not seen as romantic. Al is once again searching for love. When Aiko discovers that Al is her next assignment, she has to learn how to be gracious to herself. Aiko sees two people that have a heartstring connection to Al. Will she choose the correct woman to focus on, or will her efforts end in more disappointment and problems?

Aiko is one of six cupid assistants. She is sent to help Alejandro find his true love. Will it be Everest or Celestina? This fantasy romance is a fun little romp through paranormal land. The writing is quite entertaining, as are Aiko’s hijinks. She’s just coming off a 50 year time-out. She just wants to do things right. The characters are timeless. Dogs jumping, “cupid sisters” insisting on checking on her, I don’t know how she gets her job done. Al just wants her gone. The plot stays smooth threw out, even with a twist here and there. A fantastic quick read that any romance lover would enjoy. I recommend.

This was a light rom-com read that could be read in a day. Aiko is one of Cupid’s assistants who is supposed to help his workload but has made past mistakes that resulted in her being exiled. However, she is given one more chance to help Alejandro where she grapples with a lack of confidence in her abilities. Overall, the story flowed well and I enjoyed the concept as well as the characters.

Aiko is the first book in The Heartstrings series by Brooke May. It is a fun and original paranormal story that I devoured in a matter of hours.
Aiko was chosen by cupid as one of his team who help humans find love- but over the centuries things have not gone smoothly, with mishaps, chaos, and mayhem following in Aiko’s wake. Earning her quite the reputation, as well as getting her suspended from duty for quite a lengthy period. Finally, she has been cleared for duty, once more, but discovers her first assignment will be anything but easy. She will have her work cut out for her, that’s for sure. Will Aiko succeed, or will she end up being benched again? What ensues makes for an entertaining and fun read.
Looking forward to following the rest of the series!

Thank you, Brooke May!

Aiko (Heartstrings #1)Aiko by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This novel is a fantasy romantic comedy with little bits of history and myth sprinkled through it. I found this to be a fun, lighthearted read and the unusual storyline had me hooked from beginning to the last page. The story centres around Cupid and his arrow which with the slightest prick is meant to bring love in to your life. It turns out that Cupid does not work alone but has six beings which help him guide us mortals to love. However, Aiko is not a great Cupid and has been in exile for forty years for causing ‘the worst tragedy in human history’. Aiko has been given a second chance to prove herself and help humanity. Her assignment is Alejandro Gomez who on paper is everything that a woman could dream of, but only in looks. Alejandro’s romantic abilities are non existent and he’s not too keen on having Aiko’s help to begin with either. Meanwhile Cupid and the other five beings are just hoping that Aiko does not cause the world to end. This book has some really touching and heartwarming moments and also parts that our laugh out loud funny. The storyline flows well and the descriptive narrative really bought both the setting and the characters to life. I loved the fact that alongside the mortals there were other mythical beings living and helping to guide them. Aiko is a very likeable character and I felt immersed in her world whilst reading this novel. I am pleased that it’s the first book in a new series and look forward to the next instalment.

Aiko (Heartstrings #1) by Brooke May

My first read by May and I loved every minute of it. Romance meets its maker Cupid and his helpers. Definitely a must read book and you won’t be disappointed.

Aiko is one of Cupid’s helpers and she is the cause of many great love stories that went bad. After not having an assignment for forty years she is finally going out for an assignment.

People watching is a favorite pastime of hers. When she’s assigned to the guy she just watched get his heart stomped on she’s in shock. The quote I chose for Aiko is: “Thanks for pointing that out. I figured with the lack of wooden boats and actual clothing, this was modern times.”

Highly recommended for Paranormal Romantic Comedy lovers.

AikoAiko by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Aiko is one of six assistants created by cupid to help out when his workload becomes too much for him on his own, they all have their talents, but Aiko is one who always messes up, from minor to major, plagues to the extermination of civilisations and everything in between, but Aiko now has a chance to make up for these past mistakes and times in exile. Alejandro Gomez is a man with everything, the looks, the job, the personality, but when it comes to women, he is clueless and can’t seem to get the girl he wants.

We first meet both Aiko as an observer and Alejandro having his heart broken, he is in full romance mode, mariachi outfit and all, but it still hasn’t worked. Shortly after this spectacle, Aiko is called home and summoned to a meeting with Cupid and his other assistants, where she is surprisingly given a new assignment and the others show their feelings when it is announced and not many of them are positive reminders of Aiko’s past disasters. When she receives the file, she realises that her new assignment is the man who she has just been observing, the irony is clear, but she is determined to be successful this time.

The time comes when Aiko has to introducer herself and it just so happens that he is looking for a new assistant and this is where she makes her presence known, but it is not all plain sailing even from the beginning and although positive things start to appear, they are quickly forgotten when the negative things start, but at least Aiko has a plan, even if Alejandro is not convinced that it is going to work. He is shocked and doesn’t want anything to do with Aiko, but when he realises that he is going to have no choice in the matter, he finally relents and agrees to Aiko’s help, albeit begrudgingly..

This is a story of romance and a cupid who has lost confidence in their abilities, it is a testament to second chances and making up for past mistakes, but what they are and what the consequences may be is a question only answered by reading the book to find out whether Aiko and Alejandro can work together to create a happy ending.

This book was Just what I needed at present. I have been reading some heavy books and was looking forward for something light to read. As I was reading the book, I was picturing a movie being made , it is a perfect rom-com and people will love it.
Aiko is one of the love angels of cupid. But unfortunately, she has had disastrous experiences before and had been suspended from that role. She gets her first assignment in the form of Alejandro, who is a kind and a caring man.
Aiko is determined to get a perfect woman for him. But she makes matters complicated when she chooses two instead of one, one whom she thinks is ideal for him and the other, completely opposite, to point out the glaring differences. But Cupid’s arrows once shot, follow their own path.
Will Aiko succeed or goof everything up again?
Read to know more in this hilarious book, which kept me awake in the night laughing in splits.

Aiko is a great fantasy, romantic comedy by Brooke May. It is the first book in the Heartstrings series. Having read, and enjoyed a few other of Brooke May’s books, Aiko was absolutely nothing like what I was expecting. I’m not 100% sure what I was expecting from this book but what I got was definitely not it. Now that doesn’t mean that I’m dissing the book or saying anything bad about it. Not at all. It’s just very different from what I thought I was about to read.
Aiko is a totally fascinating character. She’s a Cupid. A very bad cupid. Everything she does turns into a disaster. Is it any wonder she’s not been allowed to carry out any cupid assignments for 40 years! But now she’s got her first assignment, what could possibly go wrong?? How about everything!!
This is a hilarious romantic comedy that had me laughing out loud so many times. Aiko is so full of good intentions and just wants to be a good cupid but boy does she come up with some crazy ideas to get Alejandro (her assignment) to fall in love with the perfect woman.
This is a great read if you are looking for something light hearted to fill up a few hours. I’m also looking forward to reading about the other cupids, who we got to meet in this book, in the remainder of this series.

I have loved all of Brooke May’s romances that I have picked up by her and was so excited to get my hands on this one. Aiko is the first in The Heartstrings Series and I will definitely be following this one as it unfolds closely. This is a light and easy read that will have you swooning and giggling at all the right moments. I loved how this made cupid seem realistic or believable. Aiko is cupid and she is not slated to be the best one lol. She has had the worst luck. Alejandro is her latest client to find love for but what will happen when Aiko’s heart starts making some objections to hooking him up with anyone but her?!?! This is a fun one you don’t want to miss. I can’t wait to see what book two will bring us.

I really enjoyed this  book. It is full of fun and laughed and of course romance.

Aiko is a cupid but she’s an unlucky one. Everything she touches goes wrong. When she is banned for dealing with humans she goes to people watch as a way to spend her days. That is until she gets her next assignment.

As a cupid Aiko’s job is to help people meet and fall in love. Should be easy right? However her assignment is Alejandro.
On the surface Alejandro is perfect. Hes good looking, works as a vet and is very romantic however he can’t seem to keep a woman.

Aiko’s job is to find him his Mrs right and help him settle down. But things aren’t that simple and when he fights her at every turn her task seems impossible.

Will she be able to find Alejandro his perfect match? Is she doomed to fail like all the other times she’s dealt with humans?

Aiko by Brooke May a sweet and salty five-star read. This was not what I was expecting, but it ended up being so much more. I had not read the blurb on this one, just the cover and the author made me want to read it, so it was a lovely surprise when I got into it and realised the subject. I adored Aiko, even at her most annoying I still warmed to her, everyone has some bad luck, hers was just worse honest. This was a great story and one that will hook you in and not let you go until the last page, so do pick it up and make sure you have time to enjoy it, as you wont want to put it down, so don’t go in thinking you will read a chapter or two before bed like I did as you will get up the next morning and need your own injection of something to pick you up.

This romantic comedy about Cupid’s helpers had me smiling and even laughing at times. Aiko is one of Cupid’s helpers but she hasn’t had the best of luck getting human couples together… she’s accidentally started a fire in a library, a war started by a prince taking a woman, etc. Anyway, the book is entertaining and the characters are fun, caring, and relatable. Romance author Brooke May spends her days writing whatever her overactive imagination has brewed up and her evenings reading while she works alongside her mom. Telling stories is second natural to her, from a young age she has told anyone who would listen what she had thought up. Now, a mom of two, she splits her time writing, playing with her kids, and of course, hiking, hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling in her beloved Bighorn Mountains.

While on maternity leave with her youngest, Brooke was putting laundry away when she looked at a poem she had written in high school that was framed in her son’s bedroom. That poem triggered the idea of My Cowboy and soon she was sitting in front of her computer with her infant next to her writing her first love story that wasn’t a fanfiction.

by Brooke May

I found this book to be fun, romantic, and unique. I loved how a lot of the laws include Aiko. Although she goes about things in a very unconventional way, I still thought she was sassy and really wanted to do the right thing. She night bend the rules a little but it’s for all the right reasons. I felt like her sisters were really hard on her ( not that they didn’t have good reason) but it would be interesting to get to know them better. I like Alejandro’s character as well, even the times I rolled my eyes at him. Over all I really enjoyed this book and I recommend reading this story.

Aiko is the first book in The Heartstrings Series written by Brooke May and it’s the first book that I have read by this author but it won’t be my last. The story line is very different which I like and the characters are well written. I loved the little quirks they have.

Aiko is back after a forty-year exile. She has been given another opportunity to help humanity.
Alejandro Gomez is everything a woman could dream of in looks. His romantic abilities gyrate to the beat of mariachi. He is also Aiko’s new assignment.

Aiko is the worst cupid she is responsible for extermination of civilizations, plagues, and possibly the worst tragedy in human history may rest on her tiny shoulders.

Can Aiko help Alejandro find love or will she create another deadly consequence?

I simply enjoyed this story and I’m looking forward in reading the next book in this series?

Aiko (The Heartstrings Series Book 1) by Brooke May is a romantic comedy and a wonderful original idea. Brooke has written a winner with this story that drew me in from the start and I found myself getting lost in the story. You can;t help but fall in love with this cupid as she is unique and I found myself laughing out loud with her antics. Being the worst cupid out of all but is certainly not for the want of trying.

Aiko is once again on an assignment to help Alejandro Gomez find love but nothing ever goes quite like she would like.

You really need to grab a copy of this clever and interesting story. I know you will fall in love with it. I am counting down until I can get a copy of the next book. Well done Brooke.

Aiko – A Heartstrings Novel by Brooke May was a 4 star read for me. The book was about Cupid and his angels he has chosen to find love for humans. Aiko has had the worst possible luck in helping humans find love. She was recently found in the park watching a man name Alejandro make a fool of himself begging a woman not to walk away from him.
Well Aiko is called home by mother who really isn’t her mother but, is Cupid’s right-hand angel who acts like the mother. Brielle is the sweet loving mother figure of the sisters.
When Aiko speaks with Briella she finds out she can now take on assignments…her next assignment is Alejandro Gomez.
Aiko feels like she is fighting a losing battle with this guy. She has seen him in action and knows this will be a lot of work.
Aiko finds two possible women for Al to date. One is a perfect match and the other she is using to show Al the difference. Will Aiko be able to pull this off or will Al end up either with the wrong woman or possibly single? Aiko is being trusted with this task because Cupid and Briella both believe in her.

This was a cute story. I think the concept was very original. It’s about Aiko, who is a Cupid, needing to help Alejandro get together with the woman he is meant to be with. Alejandro, who is very good looking, has no clue when it comes to women. He is Aiko’s first case in forty years. She was exiled because she caused the worst tragedies in human history. Needless to say, this lead to some comical moments. I found the story to be entertaining with the twist of an unsuccessful cupid. The story is fun, light and filled with likeable characters.
