Aiko (Heartstrings Book 1) by Brooke May – Review by Tia Martel

AikoAiko by Brooke May
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Cupid doesn’t work alone. He has six assistants and Aiko is just one of them. Buuut Aiko is a little rough to say the least. Her helping couples find love has lead to some very questionable situations and once or twice she’s been banned from helping humans. Now, for her first return to helping in nearly 50 years, she’s gotta help a man who may be more disastrous in love than she is.

Alejandro Gomez has it all when it comes to looks, but when it comes to love? He’s a mess. Can Aiko help Alejandro find himself and find love?

I loved the idea of this book. A Cupid helping humans find love: great. A Clumsy, tried-too-hard Cupid aiming for redemption: awesome. Unfortunately, the book didn’t hit all of the points I was hoping for.

I found the start of the book to be hard to follow when Aiko was narrating and commenting on Alejandro’s disaster. This cleared up some as the book went on and the author found a rhythm in the story she’s telling.

In other areas, I felt that there were several mistakes in editing that lead to me needing to re-read or spend a little more time on the section to determine what was being said.

Throughout the book there were some really good parts and Aiko was a great character and you could really feel for her when something went wrong. I feel that the errors and beginning of the book really made it hard for me to follow at first, but I’m willing to try again with hook 2 of the cupids.
