Master Slobozia (Masters of the Consulate Book 12) by Sylvia Black – Review by Amanda Haller-Doris

Master Slobozia (Masters of the Consulate #12)Master Slobozia by Sylvia Black
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the final book in this intense and action packed, explosive series and I couldn’t wait to finish it to see how it ends. We have followed the Masters of the Consulate as they chase the rogues and find their chosen mates in the midst of the hunt. With Slobozia, he is completely suspicious of the witches, due to the centuries of hate between the two groups. Taylen is hoping to join the Warriors Group and has zero interest in getting involved with Slobozia, but as the hunt continues, they are thrown together in a race to defeat the rogues. The twists and turns that the book takes you on will keep you reading until the last page. While it was amazing to see the series wrap up, its bitter sweet as it’s such an engaging series. Definitely a great series and each book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend starting at book 1 and reading your way through the series to get the full impact.

The Holey LandThe Holey Land by Laura Koerber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with this story, but I am so glad I decided to pick it up. It’s a slightly quicker read, but the author does an amazing job of bringing to life this magical, funny, quirky tale. We have Molly, our protagonist who has decided to take a solo trip to a small town in Mexico for reasons even she can’t explain. As she pursues her journey of self-discovery, she meets 3 spirits who watch over the town and the people in it. The more she learns from them, the more she learns about herself. The author creates a world that starts as ordinary, but upon further inspection is filled with magic. Molly continues to find the magic and what she truly is looking for. This was a fantastic read and the author writes in a way that you really feel like you are right there in the story.

We meet Tasha, a nurse who is struggling with a recent break up and Caleb, who is looking for a fresh start somewhere new after his divorce. The two of them are brought together by their love of birds at the local sanctuary. The characters are extremely relatable and real. These are people who you would want to hang out with in the real world, have some yummy brews at Beakers while you hear all about their lives. She is mistaken for someone else and forced to be the lead in the all-girls chorus. As always, Sparky somehow manages to get involved with a mystery surrounding her mistaken identity as well as a passenger going overboard. The author continues to write vivid tales that really make you feel like you are back in the 1930’s and experiencing that Sparky is. The story continues to have well written characters that are easy to imagine and connect with. Another well written and researched cozy mystery from the author in a series you will want to keep reading.

Productivity is Power: Five Liberating Practices for College StudentsProductivity is Power: Five Liberating Practices for College Students by Hillary Rettig

Having read a previous book by this author, I was excited to see what she had to offer specifically for college students who were struggling with their schooling and homework. I thought the author did a wonderful job in breaking down the five practices along with sharing anecdotes to make it more relatable for the students. I would recommend reading it in order, but if you are looking for a specific topic, you can definitely jump to that section. I think this would be a great book for new and veteran college students, as well as anyone else who is struggling with procrastination. The book is well organized and easy to read and follow. I look forward to checking out more books from the author.

Another adorable take from the author about Buddy! I think the author has done a great job of creating lessons for young children to learn using a puppy and his friends. This story revolves around Buddy being falsely accused of making messes in the house. He does discover who the culprit is, but he doesn’t have want to be a tattletale. Buddy learns that making the right choice is important, as is being honest. I think its another great story that I would recommend to parents of young children.

I just want to live in Buckeye Falls with all of these amazing characters. I absolutely loved seeing Mallory get her own story and the back story was so sweet. 15 years ago she had a pretend wedding with Beckett Fox, her brother Evan’s best friend, and she has never forgotten it. We learn that over the years they grew closer until a miscommunication two years prior separated the friends. Now that Beckett is in Buckeye Falls and is the best man in Evan’s wedding, he and Mallory will be thrown together in all sorts of situations. Beckett has never forgotten that fake wedding or the way he feels for Mallory, but the idea of dating his best friend’s sister is complicated. I am so in love with this story and I absolutely recommend this and the rest of the series!

The author did a great job of creating well written characters that we get to see grow and mature throughout the story. The vivid and creative descriptions make you feel like you are right there with Joey and his friends Kyle, Brian, and Lucas as they begin their training and learn more about their new home. I greatly enjoyed the military strategies as as well the political pieces in the story, the author created a world that feels very realistic, while also full of magic and monsters. Master Bistrita (Masters of the Consulate Book 11) by Sylvia Black – Review by Amanda Haller-Doris

Master Bistrita (Masters of the Consulate #11)Master Bistrita by Sylvia Black
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Again the author continues to write a series that is completely spectacular and I was thrilled to get to read this next story in the series. While these are standalone stories all with HEA, because of the running storyline of the rogues attempting to take out the purebloods, it might be easiest to start at the beginning of the series, so you can personally get to know the other characters in the stories. Master Bistrita and Chara have quickly become 2 of my favorites together, I enjoy that he seems to be taking the dominance piece to a higher level than seen before in the other stories, but that Chara seems to make him break all of the rules he has created. It is interesting getting to see vampires, witches, werewolves, and humans working together to take down the rogues. I can wait to read book 12 and see how it all ends.

I had not read the first book and while this definitely is a standalone story, I absolutely had to go read book 1 as this is an incredible series and I didn’t want to miss anything. I love how detailed the author is with the storyline and descriptions, she paints a vivid story that makes you feel like you are right there with the characters. She has a wide variety of characters, but it doesn’t feel overwhelming keeping track of who is who. I loved the relationship between Claire and Trian, Claire is trying so hard to keep him at arm’s length and Trian is doing everything he can to get her to notice him, without being obvious. Seeing the characters grow and develop, both together and separately was really well done. I loved the mix of the fantasy mixed in with romance, definitely made it a fun read!

Anytime I thought I have an idea of how things would go, the author threw out another twist and turn into the plot that just made it that much more exciting and thrilling. I can’t wait to see what happens in the series.

I was super excited to get to read this story, I am always a fan of stories that combine elements of fairy tales and this story did not disappoint at all! The author did an amazing job of creating a well written and detailed world full of humans, dragon shifters, witches, and other mythological creatures. I love that Gillian loved her brother so much that she was willing to venture into the forbidden woods to find the witches that might be able to help her brother who had been infected with the wasting disease. She was fearless even in situations she should have been scared. Roman was a very sexy and dedicated dragon shifter who finds Gillian and must take her to his father (the Great Dragon) to be his new mate. There is action, suspense, humor, romance, and danger al l around. I can’t wait to read the next book and see where things go from there!

I really enjoyed this book, the author did an incredible job of putting together information that not only explains the science behind weight loss, but in a way that is easily understood. This isn’t a book on the latest fad, but more so how to implement smaller changes that will help to change your mindset and thoughts towards weight loss. Until you really look into yourself, you will continue to follow patterns that won’t work and continue in the same stuck pattern. I am always looking for more education on weight loss and different approaches, this was definitely a book that gave me a new perspective and I will be excited to see how the changes I make, help with my own health journey. I absolutely recommend this to anyone looking to lose weight or felt stuck in a loop.

A Vampire in Disguise (Creatures of the Midwest Book 1)A Vampire in Disguise by Ava Silvers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this fun cozy mystery, which are fast becoming my new favorite genre. I greatly enjoyed the way the author wove together so many different characters with so many different agendas. For a mystery, it was top notch at keeping you guessing, while the answers were hidden in plain sight. I thought Hazel was an excellent character and I loved her devotion to her sister and trying to discover what happened to her. The dynamic between her and Corwin was fantastic as they try to solve the mystery for very different reasons and the results could be dangerous. The story has a lot of wit and humor infused into the mystery, which made it even more enjoyable. As the story continues, we see that this is only a piece of a bigger puzzle and there will be more to come. This was a great kick off to a dynamic series and I can’t wait to see what happens in the rest of the series.

I accidentally grabbed the 4th book instead of the first book, but I decided to go ahead and read it anyways and see how it turned out. I am always a fan of stories about Greek mythology and this story did not disappoint at all! It’s a great story and from what I can see a really great series, I am looking forward to going and checking out the previous books. I am looking forward to getting to see more of the relationship built between Tally and her Angel Jophiel. This story was well written and had the Greek mythology woven into the modern day world. This is an easy to read story that I think middle schoolers especially, but readers of all ages can and will enjoy. There is humor, adventure, mystery, and mythology all rolled into a very descriptive story that paints a vivid picture that makes you feel like you really are right there in the story. I can’t wait to check out the rest of the series!

As always the author does a great job of transporting you back to the 1930’s and really making you feel like you are right there in the midst of the story with her vivid descriptions and well written story telling. Sparky is back, stirring up trouble as she works to prove her boss isn’t a murderer, all while trying to juggle, school, her guardian’s potential career revival, as well as having to volunteer with cop Mug and Detective Bernie. I am still loving that the station has a police bunny, just cracks me up. There are definitely plenty of twists and turns, as well as humor, in this cozy noir historical mystery. Looking forward to seeing more Sparky mysteries!

It was great getting to see where all of the different characters are and to see the continued character development for them. The conflicts, drama, suspense, magic, shifters, and gemstones to name a few, kept me enthralled. The author continues to paint a vivid picture that makes you feel like you are really in the story. Whiskey Throttle (Moto X #6)Whiskey Throttle by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It has been awhile since I picked up a book from this author, but again, she does not disappoint! This is a very emotional book about the heartbreaking journey Parker goes on to find himself after hitting rock bottom and needing to find his way again. This story is an extremely worthwhile read, but will hit pretty hard in some points as the author doesn’t shy away from the darker parts of addiction and despair. You really feel for Parker and the heartache he feels losing his family, but you definitely see why Megan had to take Lindsey and remove them from his self-destruction. The author keeps you engaged with every page and this was a book I couldn’t put down. I plan to go check out the rest of the series and see how things turn out for other characters as well.

Having not read the first book, there were a few points I felt like I might be missing out on some character development, so I will definitely be checking out book 1 so I can get the full spectrum of the characters. I am always a fan of original fairy tales and fairy tale spin offs, this story was beautifully written and the author did an incredible job of creating well developed characters that are so relatable, even with the fairy tale twist. George was such a well written character that you just wanted everything to be OK for him and my heart broke every time it seemed like he was getting so close and then would retreat. I absolutely loved Lilly, she was so excited and eager to see the real world and experience as much as she could, and she was a fun and engaging character that you couldn’t help but root for her. I loved the additional twist of not only a fairy god mother, but a guardian angel as well. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

As someone who struggles significantly with ADHD and procrastination, I found this book to be extremely helpful. The author does a great job of outlining the information into different sections that can be read in pieces or all at once. I really enjoyed the different exercises that she offers throughout the book. While some of them didn’t exactly feel like a good fit for me, they did give me a different outlook on how to approach different situations in the future. This is a very helpful self-help book that I would recommend to anyone who is struggling to find new ways to overcome procrastination and distractions from the work that they need to complete. Murder a la Christie (Golden Age of Mystery Bookclub Book 1)Murder a la Christie by Marilyn Levinson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am really starting to enjoy reading these cozy murder mystery books. I have not really read too many traditional murder mystery books, so the Agatha Christie books that are referenced, I am not familiar with, but the author did a great job of blending them in, in a way that even novice murder mystery readers can follow. I absolutely loved Professor Lexie Driscoll’s attitude and her refusal to believe that the death at her first book club is natural causes. As she starts investigating further, she starts to see the cracks in the sophisticated wealthy town she is staying in. As she continues to investigate, more members of the book club she is running start dying. She is also juggling handsome suitors while trying to investigate and convince people to take her seriously. This is a fun and faced paced story with well written characters, fantastic descriptions and so many twists and turns, you could get dizzy. I did my best to try and solve the mystery before the end, but I did not. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!

One Quarter VillainOne Quarter Villain by Cori Cooper
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was absolutely charmed by this hilariously sweet fairy tale spin off story about the good girl who finds out she is one quarter villain and what that could mean for her future. I loved all of the characters interactions with each other, even characters we only saw briefly, the author did a great job of making them well rounded and realistic characters. I absolutely loved the relationship between Maddy and Leo, her best friend since kindergarten and even though they have vastly different personalities, they make their friendship work. I loved seeing Maddy discovers more about her heritage and learning about the magical realms that exist and how they are used to keep people safe. The character arcs for Maddy were surprising and delightful. Just when I thought I had the story figured out, the author threw out another curveball twisting things into a new direction. If you love fairy tales, happily ever after’s, and characters that will make you laugh and root for them, this is a fantastic story! I can’t wait to see what the author comes out with next.
