GAH!!! This here is absolute P. E. R. F. E. C. T. I. O. N. !!!! It needs to be made into a movie so I can watch it over and over again… Russian and Royally Complicated is the second book in The Crowned Hearts series by the talented duo of Gwyn McNamee and Christy Anderson. This is a captivating, oh-so-sexy, and fun enemies-to-lovers romance with forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, hidden royalty, a bad boy prince, volcanic chemistry, sizzle, a little suspense, some angst, tension, and emotion….. and then there’s also one of my favourite tropes in this book- and it’s one of the best parts about this story, too- but I won’t mention because I don’t want to ruin it for you.
This is Lev and Daphne’s story- who we both met back in book one as they are Fyn and Bridget’s best friends. A steamy encounter at their best friends wadding might have been in the heat of the moment, but neither is prepared for what happens next. Two of my favourite authors come together and create magic- EVERY. SINGLE. TIME! I can’t wait to see what they do next! Happy Reading…

A Forever Kind of Thing by Carrie Thomas and Melinda Harris is a YA romance woven with plenty of teen drama, angst, and emotion. Not having read any of these two authors work before, I wasn’t sure of what to expect from one of their stories, but I do enjoy YA books, and the cover piqued my curiosity enough to want to find out, plus I really needed a ‘break’ from the heavier reads I have been devouring of late, so I took a chance and set off to explore. The story is kind of sweet, with teen issues that we can all relate to that added drama and angst to the story. Mina and Wes are great characters who were lovingly crafted by the authors into fully realised individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws. They were realistic and believable. I just wish I had been able to connect with them enough to really invest in their story. I did like the story but didn’t love it as much as I was hoping to. But that might be a ‘me’ thing, as I have been reading a lot of heavier/darker stories of late- so I have decided to revisit this book again soon to see if perhaps I was just having an ‘off’ reading day with this book the first time around. But, if you love angsty teen stories with heartache, opposites attract, second chances, and plenty of emotion- then you will probably want to add this to you TBR. Happy Reading…

Sing For Me is the second book in the Balefire series by Tam DeRudder Jackson. It is a New Adult contemporary rockstar romance with ‘the girl-next-door’ element, tension, chemistry, sparks, emotion, secrets, drama, angst, and hot spicy details. I know that I have come into this series a little backwards, reading in descending order, but luckily these books can be read as standalones without feeling lost in the storyline, as each book in the series focuses on a different member of the Balefire rock band. This is Blu Connolly’s turn, and he’s the sexy lead singer of the band. Ashleigh is his new next-door neighbour who captivates Blu more than he was prepared for. But, sometimes love comes unexpectedly- as these two discover. Definitely my favourite of the series, so far. Happy Reading…

The Guardsman is the second book in The Olympic Peninsula series by Cat Treadgold. It is a heartwarming contemporary romance with an opposites attract element, a protective hero, damaged soul, trauma, family dynamics, emotion, finding love unexpectedly, and the healing power of love. Here we meet Liam, who is Ali’s ‘missing- presumed dead’ twin brother (Ali is the FMC in Book one- The Silent Woodsman). Liam has been through quite a lot in the past few years and has quite the story to tell. Needing time to reevaluate his life and come to grips with everything, he goes to stay with his twin sister and her husband- and life takes an unexpected turn. What happens makes for a heartwarming tale. As with the first instalment, Ms. Treadgold crafted a touching story which is woven with plenty of emotion which tugged at my heartstrings and made it easy to connect with the characters and invest in their story completely. Rogue Wolf is the third instalment in the Protector Wolf Shifter Series by Lilliana Rose It is a wonderfully woven protector turned lover urban fantasy with paranormal romance, shifters (wolves), vampires, action, adventure, danger, dramatic developments, chemistry, tension, mystery, emotion, politics, high stakes, agendas, suspense, the supernatural, threats, abduction, and much more.
Each book in this series follows on from one another, so I highly recommend reading the first two books before starting on this instalment so you have all the important details on board that will help you fully appreciate this book, as well as the series as a whole. Kodiak has sworn to protect Tamaska at all cost, but what happens to her if he’s not there to do so? Now Tamaska is on a mission to rescue Kodiak who has been captured by the vampires. But to do so means she will need to take drastic action- and will need to find someone willing to ‘turn’ her- but there is no guarantee she will survive the transformation. OMG these two have done it again!!! I absolutely love these two authors individually- but put them together and magic happens!!! With the upcoming release of the second book in this series, I thought I would do a re-read of this one in anticipation of Book #2. I adored this book the first time around and love it just as much this time. Royally Complicated is the first book in The Crowned Hearts series by the talented duo of Gwyn McNamee and Christy Anderson. It is a sublime forbidden romance with a secret identity, a bad boy prince, a holiday fling, electric chemistry, plenty of hot sizzling encounters, a little suspense, a splash of angst, emotion, and more. This is Fyn and Bridget’s story- she’s on a holiday with her best friend, a holiday that should have been her honeymoon, that’s if she hadn’t found her fiancé cheated. A holiday fling is just what she needs to get her ex out of her system. He’s the sexy surfer that snares her attention. But there’s more to him than first meets the eye. What happens when secrets are revealed? You really should read all the entertaining details for yourself- you are bound to love their as much as I have. At this rate, I am going to have to add another wing to my fantasy book boyfriend mansion as I keep having to add more ‘residents’ to it, especially considering every one of Ms. McNamee and Ms. Anderson’s heroes (both individually and collaboratively) have been moved into my BBF Mansion, all because they are so delicious that I can’t help but want to ‘keep’ Every. A Rainbow Like You by Andréa Fehsenfeld is the first book that I have read by this author, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of her stories. But the title alone intrigued me enough to want to find out what was between the covers, so I snapped up a copy and set off to explore. What I discovered is a wonderfully layered and emotional contemporary fiction story with a unique identity that sets it apart from many of its kind. With a struggling rock star MC, you could be forgiven for thinking this is the usual rockstar romantic story that seems to have flooded the market of late- but you would be mistaken. This story stands alone, with an heartachingly ‘different’ story to tell. Full of struggles and challenges, heartache, love, loss, drama, fate, tension, music, and more- this is more of a deep and meaningful character study. Ms. Fehsenfeld has a smooth and lyrical style to her writing that easily coaxed me into the story and held my attention the whole way through. Her characters are really well-developed individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws. They definitely brought the story to ‘life’ and made it all the more realistic and believable. They were easy to connect with and become invested in- which made my reading experience all the more enjoyable. This may have been my first book by Ms. Fehsenfeld, but it definitely won’t be the last. Looking forward to seeing what she has in store for us next. Happy Reading…

Dead Keen is the second book in the Things Unseen series by Anise Eden. It is a brilliant psychological thriller with romantic suspense elements, medical mystery, action, adventure, tension, intrigue, gripping edge of seat developments, drama, emotion, plots, hidden agendas, and palpable tension. After reading the first book and loving it as much as I did, I had quite high expectations for this second instalment. I am happy to say that Ms. Eden didn’t disappoint, and this is every bit as good as the first, if not better. We met Psychotherapist Neve Keane back in book one and now join her and her boyfriend Doctor Con O’Brien on a trip to Ireland to help Con’s family. What happens once they get there makes for some intense reading that had me flipping the pages, reading as fast as I could, because I needed to know how everything would play out in the end. Add in a medical mystery, a demented cult leader, old gods, and a videogame company, and the story really takes off. I lost all sense of time and place as I followed along on the adventure, staying up into the wee hours because I couldn’t put it down until I had read every word. To me, that is a sign of a great book. This could be read as a standalone if you wanted, without feeling like you are ‘missing’ anything- but having said that, I highly recommend reading the first book, as there are important character details, backstory and other pertinent information that will enhance your reading experience of this book. I can’t wait to see what happens in Book #3! Happy reading!

Softest Touch by Adina D. Grey is a sweet contemporary workplace romance with a bit of a billionaire romance element, a forbidden relationship (boss/employee), different worlds connecting, opposites attract, chemistry, spice, challenges, a little drama, banter, and finding love unexpectedly. Derek and Melinda may not have gotten off to a very ‘smooth’ start, but working together soon has their chemistry simmering below the surface, and before too long begins to bubble over- and things take an ‘interesting’ turn… They may not realise at the start, but they are perfect for each other I really enjoyed this book, being my first read by Ms. Grey, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of her stories- but the blurb engaged my curiosity, and so I took a leap of faith and snapped up a copy and set off to explore. And I am so glad I did, as I enjoyed the story even more than I was hoping for. I will definitely be adding Ms. Grey to my reading list and am looking forward to exploring all her other works, too. Lilly Tames Her Worries is a cute, illustrated children’s book that provides strategies for dealing with anxiety and stressful situations through Lilly’s experiences over the course of the story. Lilly has her favourite toy rabbit that she’s had since she was a baby, and it goes everywhere with her. This aspect of the story brought back many memories of my own children, and now my grandchildren, who had/have their own security blanket toy ‘friends’. Lilly’s is HunBun, the rabbit. So, things take a bit of an anxious turn when, for once, Lilly doesn’t have HunBun with her at school. What happens when the Heebie-Jeebies arrive? What will she do? A great story, but an even better ‘tool’ to use to help teach children to cope with anxiety. Some ‘grounding’ methods are also explained at the end of the story. Beautifully illustrated too. Love Shots is the fourth book in the Bluestone series by Isobel Reed. It is a friends-to-lovers sweet contemporary romance with a small-town setting, a western element, sexy cowboys, opposites attract, emotion, humour, interesting characters, and enough drama, suspense, and angst that ignites real tension in the storyline. Summer had always dreamed of taking over her grandfather’s bar in her hometown. So, when she discovers that he had sold it, she is not impressed. To find that her childhood friend, Teddy, is the new owner- makes her furious. Sparks, and whiskey fly, so things are about to get interesting. What ensues makes for a great read. With a violent ex in the mix too, will danger come into play? Well I’m not giving anything away and ruin it for you- but I will say that the tension and emotion was nicely balanced by some witty banter, with the humorous moments adding an extra element of charm to the story. There was also a nice touch of tender, romantic moments that gave it a heartwarming feel, too. Happy Reading…

Cruel King by K.M. Scott is very angsty enemies-to-lovers romance. I have read a few of Ms. Scott’s books before and really loved her ‘Club X’ series- so when I saw this pop up on my recommended book notifications, I didn’t hesitate and snapped up a copy to dive into. This book twisted me up on so many levels. While it is incredibly well written, and the characters are fully realised individuals with electrifying chemistry that sizzles right off the pages, and their angsty push-pull is palpable- I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about this book. I will try to explain why I feel a little tied up in knots over my rating and review of this book. Everything about it is very professional, polished, and well-presented. But going into the book I had high expectations having loved everything else I had read of Ms. Scott’s that I’ve read- so I set off to see what she had in store for us and immediately had doubts that I would be able to ‘like’ our MC, Matthias. He was a real jerk, and treated Ava so terribly that I wanted to slap him on Ava’s behalf- and then shake her silly for putting up with it. But I still held out hope. Then things got more complicated, with a bit of a love triangle thing happening with his brother (her best friend) and I became more dubious, because, to me it felt like cheating- even though technically it wasn’t cheating. But I really felt put off that Ava and Theo got together after she and Mathias had ‘been’ together- I know many years had passed and he was being a jerk, but still, my heart was hurt in the process lol- and I couldn’t help but feel like she’d cheated….and don’t get me started on his ‘marriage’ either. I was torn, because I was rooting for them, and for him to get his act together. I mean, obviously he does in the end, but the frustrating angsty push-pull, drama, and tension goes on for more than three quarters of the story- and by that stage I was quite anxious as to the actual outcome of the story. So, this is why I have been torn about my rating of the book and writing a review. This could/should be a five-star read, but my heart is still a little bruised… Matthias has four hunky brothers, so perhaps this might be the first book in a new series- we will have to wait and see. Conversations with the Tarot: Bewitching Meditations on Reading the Cards by Maria DeBlassie shares her love of Tarot cards, giving us insights and a beginners guide to exploring the Tarot for ourselves. She has woven together 78 poems, one for each card in the deck- along with witchy insights, musings, how to read the cards, stories and messages to inspire us to begin meditating on our own decks and adding a little Tarot wisdom to our lives. Having read Ms. DeBlassie other books I can see how this build on what she has already shared/taught us about creating our own ‘magic’ in our lives, to inspire us to design richer, fulfilling, and more meaningful lives. The author always produces an intriguing read that gives me plenty to ponder by sharing through her own experiences, providing lessons, messages, and interesting insights. Well worth the read, especially if you are drawn to the Tarot, Wicca, Bruja, meditation, or new age/age-old spirituality. Happy Reading…

Mesmerised is the second book in the Hybrid Lovers series by Toya Richardson. I love Ms. Richardson’s original take on the lore surrounding vampires and angels, and as the first book was fantastic, I had some high expectations for this book, but I am not surprised that Ms. Richardson doesn’t disappoint. I think this just might be better than the first book- but really, they are both superb. It could be read as a standalone, even though it is ‘set’ before the events in “Captivated” (Book #1)- but in saying that I highly recommend reading the first book as well as this one, as otherwise not only would you be missing out on a great story, but there are also other relevant details to the series there that will enhance your reading experience. It is a fated mates paranormal romance, with angel/vampire hybrids, demons, action, danger, magic, emotion, chemistry, sizzle, sweet & heartwarming moments, drama, angst, humour, tension, and an evil adversary. If you love paranormal romance with a captivating story, chemistry, sizzle, and fated mates- then you will definitely want this book/series in your life! Happy Reading!

The Reluctant Suitor is the fifth book in The Studs of Clear Creek County Series by Stacy-Deanne. This is a BWWM (interracial)- historical- small town- western romance with forbidden lovers, age gap, blackmail, a tormented hero a bit of an enemies to lovers aspect, chemistry, challenges, drama, emotion, choices, fighting for what’s right, staying true to yourself, following your heart, racial challenges, inequality, and finding love unexpectedly. This is a novella length story, which made for a very quick and easy read. And as I say with most of her shorter stories, I really would have liked to have read a longer version of this, with more detail, depth, and development- which would have allowed me to really immerse myself into the story and connect with the characters and their story much more- I’m greedy like that. This story sees Billie Jean take on one of the largest and most powerful landholder families about the working/living conditions of their workers. As she gears up for a fight in order to ensure her message is heard and acceptable changes are made, the last thing she expects, or needs right then, is to start to fall for the enemy- in the form of the wealthy property supervisor Fisher Hines. That will definitely cause problems, for both of them. Will love win out in the end? Or will the flames of love be doused by the challenges they face? Fortune’s Favorite is the second enthralling addition to the Soulbound Journeys Series by C.L Schneider. Can we please take a moment to admire the gorgeous cover of book- it really grabbed my attention and is definitely my favourite of all her covers. I could just stare at it for ages. Love it! And I love this book/series too. It was so wonderfully rich and beautifully textured which added depth and extra layers and complexity to the overall story, building on the superb world-building that I have come to expect from this talented author. It is a fantastic action-packed fantasy adventure- with plenty of dramatic developments, wonderful originality, magic, Gods, games, discoveries, the paranormal, mysteriousness, interesting characters, tension, suspense, imagination, danger, risk, sacrifice, and much more…. Our intrepid explorers have been at sea for some time now and seem to have found the perfect port to dock at to resupply their stores. But Ian feels that things aren’t quite right, or what they seem. Jarrod, on the other hand, can’t wait to get ashore. But things take a dangerous, if not intriguing turn- and without giving anything away, what happens makes for an exciting instalment that had me flipping the pages to discover what would happen and how things would play out. Mr Lucky is the first book in the Trentbridge Tales series by Lee Wood. This is the first book that I have read by this author, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of his stories. But I love a great thriller, so I excitedly snapped up a copy and didn’t hesitate to dive in. What I discovered is a gritty crime thriller, and a bit of a surprise package. It wasn’t what I expected- and that made it even more intriguing, for me. Detective James Sheldon is down on his luck until he wins millions in the lottery. This life changing event should have been the catalyst he needs for a fresh start, or to ‘make-over’ his life. But instead, he finds himself in a dangerous situation, pitted against the dark underworld- while forced to confront his demons. This makes for a great psychological mystery and has given me a taste for more of this series. Happy Reading…

Saved By the Everyday Hero is a superb collection of short stories from thirteen talented authors. The stories are all unique to the individual author, but all revolve around the same theme- ‘Everyday Heroes’ who swoop in and save the day. From police officers, to firemen, security personnel, the hunky next-door-neighbor, or a member of the armed forces- there are plenty of wonderful characters who turn out to be heroes of their stories. They were all quite diverse and wonderfully developed individuals who you will find so easy to connect with and can easily invest in each of their stories. The stories are categorized into ‘heat levels’- from sweet to spicy hot- there’s something here to suit every taste. So, get comfortable and settle in for some wonderful reading set to captivate you through every page. I really enjoyed the few hours exploring this wonderful anthology, and I am sure that you will love this collection just as much as I have!

Unexpected Heroes By: Naomi Valkyrie This is one of my favourites of the collection. A wonderful MM romance woven around two damaged souls who are drawn together by fate. Elijah (a single dad new to town) and Jude (a security operative with a broken heart) both stole my heart, right along with baby Griffin. This was such a sweet story but packed with emotion, danger, and intrigue. The slightly paranormal twist elevated this story to a whole other level for me, and was quite cleverly done. Ms. Valkyrie imbued her story with so much emotion, it may only be a short story, but packs the punch of a much longer novel. She made me cry, more than once- the story really touched me- I was so invested in the outcome, on the edge of my seat in parts as I followed along to ensure everything worked out in end.
Quin to the Rescue By: L.A. Remenicky This is a sweet story. Mirra and Quinton (a local police officer) are neighbours with furry companions that keep them on their toes. Add in a few secrets, a past connection, a senior prom ‘incident’, a meth lab, investigation, danger, and an unforgettable kiss- and this story really takes off.
Just Another Hallmark Fool By: Eliza Matthews A cute read. What happens when your hunky one-night-stand who you thought you’d never see again turns out to be your aunt’s next-door neighbour? Well, things get interesting- that’s for sure. Let the fun ensue.
Saved By the Guard By: Mandy Melanson This is a great second chances romance with secrets, chemistry, high school sweethearts, love, loss, heartache, drama, angst, and more. Liam runs into Kelsy at a wedding after many years apart- but there is a rather large secret she has been holding. What happens when all is revealed? Will they get a second chance at love? Well worth the read to find out.
Crossing the Lines By: Anne M. Scott What happens when you throw a security expert together with a FBI agent and mix in the Russian Mob, danger, chemistry, intrigue, a little mystery, and action? We get a very engrossing read. I would love to read a longer version of this story, as it was a great short story, but would make a superb ‘full-length’ romantic suspense.
Heroes & Hurricanes By: T.K. Eldridge I was hooked by this story right from beginning. It had all the ingredients to keep me glued to the pages the whole way through. An editor who owns a book publishing company is targeted by a dangerous stalker. When strange and scary things start to happen the local police officer becomes involved. A romantic suspense story full of danger, investigation, dramatic developments, intensity, and is also a story about finding love unexpectedly. What happens made for a gripping, tension-filled read. Another favourite of the collection.
Into the Flames By: Dawn Leudecke “I didn’t know you were the photojournalist working with us this year. I knew we were getting one on the crew this week, but I didn’t even know you’d come back this summer.” “Oh, I’m here for more than the summer. My boss transferred me to Cold Springs.” She snorted. “You guys seem to have more forest fires than anywhere else in the state.” Sadie is a photojournalist who has returned to town after being placed on assignment with the local fire crew. Dalton is a local firefighter, her next-door neighbour, and her one-night-stand from her visit to town the previous year. Their chemistry still simmers even after a year, but thrown in a little drama and tension and things are about to get interesting. This second chances romance was such a great read- plenty of chemistry, banter, fun, emotion, and more.
Broken Pieces By: Amelia Hayden This is a wonderful MM romance. Caleb is a wounded warrior, injured in an explosion, who now suffers from PTSD and amnesia. He spent a long time in hospital recovering- then sent home. He is plagued by terrifying dreams that wear on his mind. When a tall, dark stranger turns up on his doorstep his world is turned upside down. The man claims to know him, but why can’t Caleb remember him. Will spending time together bring Caleb’s memories back? What happens when secrets are revealed? Throw in meddling family, racism, drama, and emotion and this makes for a great read. A story about the healing power of love.
The Fire In His Heart By: W.A. Marlow Nate is a firefighter who is forced to take a week off work due to stress. He meets Sarah at a bar and have a one-night-stand that he can’t forget. If only he could find Sarah again. When they finally do reconnect there are a few unexpected developments that come into play. When Sarah has an accident, Nate is soon on hand to rescue her, and fate takes over. I enjoyed this story but felt that it really needed more ‘time/space’ to fully develop properly. All the ingredients are there, but it seemed quite rushed which made the flow feel choppy. The transitions and dialogue also felt quite abrupt, as I think the author was trying to condense a ‘bigger’ story into a smaller space.
Power Trip By: April Lynn Baker “I was cheated on by my high school girlfriend and since then I haven’t trusted any woman, especially with my heart,” I say, as she stands up from the couch, striding towards me. “I haven’t had a real relationship because guys don’t want to tango with my father. I’m scared of my feelings for you,” she says. I grab her hand in mine. Will a police officer and the daughter of the local mob boss ever have the chance of finding happiness together, or will outside forces tear them apart before they get the chance to find out? With tension, drama, danger, violence, abduction, and time running out- things take a tense turn. The story felt quite rushed at times and ends on a major cliffhanger, with the story set to continue in the next instalment due to release in 2024. Comes with trigger warnings.
Unbreak My Heart By: Jade Marshall “I know, right? I’m not supposed to be nice to you. I mean with Sasha being my sister and all. But you didn’t do anything wrong, even if she wants everyone to think that. And I’ve known you for years.” I’m rambling again. Why won’t the earth just crack open and swallow me, for crying out loud? He tilts his head to the side, studying me…. “Thanks for that, Echo. It’s good to know not everyone thinks I’m the bad guy.” Colton is back in town after 5 years away. He’s the new fire chief. Echo is a talented baker who has just opened a new flourishing bakery- she also happens to be Colton’s ex-wife’s sister….. awkward. The sparks fly, in more than one way. And when the bakery is set alight, it’s Colton who rushes in and saves Echo from the burning building. What happens next makes for an engrossing romantic suspense. With chemistry, sizzle, insta-love, jealousy, drama, angst, and some tension- made this story quite memorable.
Eve’s Christmas Kiss By: Sharon Wray He didn’t care about the snowstorm. He didn’t care that he’d have to sleep in a separate bedroom in her parents’ house on Christmas Eve. He didn’t care if she was uncomfortable with his questions. His time away from Kingsmill had taught him three things. First, he was an ass. Second, he’d totally mishandled the situation two years ago… Third, he was even more in love with his wife than he’d been on the day he married her. The other thing he knew for certain was if he couldn’t convince his wife that she loved him back—within the next twenty-four hours—there was a strong possibility he could lose her forever. A sweet and spicy second chances romance with the magic of Christmas ensuring these two characters get their HEA Christmas miracle. But not if the ‘bad guy’ gets his way. What happens when Eve and Kane are stuck in a remote cabin in the middle of a snowstorm, with thugs on their trail? You really should read all the intriguing details for yourself. It’s definitely one of my favourites of the collection.
Fallen Honor By: Pandora Snow Dagger’s my type: protective, courageous, and military. I can’t even look our new employee in the eye…

Dagger might be the ‘new hire’ but he’s already falling for the boss’s daughter. Cassidy helps run her father’s construction company and has an instant connection with the big, hunky, ex-marine. When her father has a medical emergency, Dagger is there to save the day. He steps up and helps her run her father’s company while her father is recovering from heart surgery. But there are some financial discrepancies with the company that leads Dagger and Cassidy on an investigation to try and uncover the possible ‘thief’. Add in a possessive ex, drama, corruption, secrets, lies, betrayal, danger, angst and more- and we get quite an engrossing read. I would definitely love to read a longer, more ‘fleshed-out’ version of this story, as I wanted to know so much more- because it had me hooked.
As you can see, there is quite a lot here to keep you entertained for hours- with intriguing storylines, interesting characters, very suspenseful moment, surprising developments; some funny light-hearted and touching moments; as well as some hot, steamy, and spicy times. So grab yourself a copy and dive in asap, you’ll be glad you did. Happy Reading…

This was such a fun story, with quite a nostalgic element for me. I was a teenager in the 80’s and some of my best memories are associated with those years- so this book triggered me, but in a great way. Back to the 80’s by S.E. Reichert and Kerrie Flanagan is a fun romantic comedy- a bit of an enemies-to-lovers romance with opposites attract, humour, a touch of drama, a taste of the 80’s, and some sweet cheesiness that gave this book added ‘personality’. Blaine Reynold’s inherited shop comes under threat from property developer Eric Morales whose planned brewery is set to demolish her dreams. What happens makes for an entertaining read. Granting Katelyn is the second book in the Sweet Valley Series by S.E. Reichert. It is a wonderful small town western romance with plenty of emotion, angst, a damaged MC, an injured horse, painful past, secrets, mystery, chemistry, challenges, family, friendship, taking a chance on love/finding love unexpectedly, breaking barriers, the healing power of love, and hope. The story highlights some sensitive topics too, which could be triggers for some readers- so be aware. This is Katelyn and Grant’s story. Katelyn is Elle’s younger sister (Elle was our mc in “Raising Elle’- Book #1). Katelyn is called in to help an injured horse, whose owner sparks more than her curiosity. We get front row seats as we watch the healing power of love at work. But that’s not to say there aren’t a few bumps along the way. Another great addition to the series. Now I’m happily anticipating Book #3. Happy Reading…

Refrain is Book #3 in the Off the Record series by Madelynne Ellis. I didn’t realise when I grabbed a copy of this book that it was the third instalment of an on-going series following the same characters- so it isn’t really meant to be read as a standalone. I really am kicking myself for not realising sooner and made sure I read the previous books before starting this one- as I think if I had it would have made this an even better read (for me). So, having said that, I will definitely be going back to read the previous books before embarking on the upcoming fourth instalment. This is an angsty and emotional Rockstar romance with tension, drama, chemistry, challenges, friendship, family, dealing with inner demons, heartache, and sizzle. This could be the beginning of another fasting period.”
Something I have in common with Scala- a love of coffee, food, and a great mystery. Leaving No Traces is the fifth intriguing instalment in the Commissario Scala Mystery series by P.J. Mann. I am really enjoying following Scala along on each of his investigations, and this one didn’t disappoint. It’s another engrossing and well-woven crime & investigation mystery, a bit of a whodunnit that starts with a murder that leads Detective Scala into a complex case that has him pitted against a cold-hearted villain. This cat and mouse game results in a story that has plenty of tension, secrets, lies, corruption, danger, high-stakes, action, police procedures, dramatic developments, and where Scala (and us) are thrust into a race against time to solve the case before it’s too late. Again, Ms. Mann doesn’t disappoint, delivering a suspenseful story. Looking forward to more Commissario Scala mysteries. Happy reading…

Heavy Shot is the seventh book in the Nashville Assassins: Next Generation series by Toni Aleo. It is an NA sports romance (hockey), with some forced proximity, a touch of fate, drama, emotion, banter, family, friendship, touching scenes, past trauma, chemistry, and finding love unexpectedly. So, even though this is the seventh book in a series, it can be read as a standalone, which is what I did- coming into a series backwards- again 😊 But having said that I really got the impression that this would have been an even better reading experience if I’d read the previous books in the series before starting on this one, and perhaps even the original Nashville Assassins series too. So, looks like I have a book binge somewhere in the near future… This is Dimitri and Austen’s story- Ms. Aleo made me feel for Austen and the challenges she had faced- she’s such a great character. She and Dimitri were perfect for each other…. Looking forward to more from Ms. Aleo. Happy reading!

Oscar and Emmy Gain a Friend by Terri Sabol is a cute children’s picture book story with a bit of an educational component about animal welfare/animal activism, and community awareness. It highlights the T.N.R (Trap-Neuter-Return) program and how it works, as raising awareness is key to the success of the program. The story is told through Oscar and Emmy, who are cats, and their human family, whose adventures start when they encounter a stray cat. What happens makes for a sweet read. Happy Reading…

Reticent Hawke is Book #2 in the new Hawke Family Second Generation series by Gwyn McNamee. I was expecting to love this book, because hello, it’s Gwyn McNamee— but I really didn’t expect to FLOVE it so very very hard. Even having Ms. McNamee play her version of whac-a-mole and pinball with my heart and emotions – making me reach for the tissues, more than once- while I was sobbing my heart out and trying to read through all the tears — she wrung me out and I FLOVED every second! GAH, this is going to be a short review, because how can I ever hope to capture PERFECTION in a few short paragraphs??? Seriously, if you haven’t read this book yet, do yourself a favour and grab a copy and dive right in- you won’t regret it- I cannot recommend this book/series/author highly enough! You NEED her and this book in your life! I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us in Book #3- Relentless Hawke. Happy Reading…

This picks up where we left off in book one. Tamaska has been targeted by the vampires and Kodiak must answer to the pack- so things are about to get ‘interesting’… I was avidly reading, immersed in the story, following along to see how it all played out.
