Scepter of Fire (Vigilant #2) by LM Preston – Review by Angela Hayes

Scepter Of Fire (Vigilant, #2)Scepter Of Fire by L.M. Preston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4 Stars

Scepter of Fire is the second book in the Vigilant series by L.M Preston. This book is again from Dex’s point of view- so I highly recommend reading the previous books, especially Unbreakable Darkness (Book #1.5), as it/they contain important information that will help you better appreciate this story (and the series, as a whole). This book builds on what we learned previously, giving us a bigger picture of events, so far.
It is an action-packed YA fantasy with the plenty of the paranormal, supernatural, sci-fi elements, adventure, mystery, drama, danger, emotion, discovery, betrayal, agendas, tension, choices, challenges, intensity, and magic.
Dex’s life was turned upside down when his father uprooted their family and moved to this small town, which has changed everything he thought he knew. But fate hasn’t finished testing him yet, and this book sees him face more life threatening challenges…. And make a few new discoveries along the way.
This series is getting better and better the further we go…. next please!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, L.M. Preston.

Unearthly Magik (Black Cauldron Detective Agency Book #1) by Matilda Reyes – Review by Angela Hayes

Unearthly Magik (Black Cauldron Detective Agency Book 1)Unearthly Magik by Matilda Reyes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars

Unearthly Magik is the first book in the Black Cauldron Detective Agency series by Matilda Reyes. It is a superb urban fantasy full of mages, action, adventure, drama, magic, the supernatural/paranormal, suspense, danger, agendas, wonderful world-building, crime & investigation, tension, secrets, and mystery.
I really loved the premise of the story, and having read a few of Ms. Reyes other books, I couldn’t wait to dive into this one. I loved the characters, the whole supernatural detective agency trope, the missing (powerful and dangerous) grimoire, the plots and agendas, the wonderful world-building of the hidden ‘world’ within New York City, the friendships/banter/quips/antics, the adventure that results from the search for the grimoire, the other ‘jobs’ the agency investigates, and the fact that there is more to come in this series- as I am definitely hooked by Ava and co.
Whilst I did enjoy the story, there were quite a few editing issues with this book that I am sorry to say definitely detracted from my overall appreciation of the whole story. Little things, like missing words, wrong words, unfinished sentences, and repeated info, meant that I was regularly ‘pulled out’ of the story- which left me frustrated. This should/could have been a 5+ Star read, but unfortunately it was let down by simple editing issues.
The story does have a lot going on in it, and has a fairly fast pace, which the author does choreograph quite well. The story easily captured my attention and imagination, and pulled me into a wonderful adventure (minus the editing issues). I also appreciated that the characters were really well-developed individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws- who continued to evolve, develop and grow over the course of the story.
I am looking forward to seeing where we go from here. Bring on Book #2!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Matilda Reyes!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Tropical Date is the third book in the Postscript Island series by R.S. Jonesee. This is the first book that I have read by this author, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of her stories. But I love a fun read, and this certainly gave off those vibes- so I snapped up a copy and dove right in.
It is a witty romantic comedy with a second chances element, a tropical island setting, adventure, mystery, drama, banter/quips/antics, and danger…. All of which made for a sexy, fun story. A painter, a condom company CEO, a tropical island, their complicated past, some mayhem, banter, and plenty of chemistry- intriguing! Right?
I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be going back to read the other two books in the series, as well as any future releases by this talented author.
Happy Reading!

Agent Red: Fatal Memory is the first book in the Teagan Stone series by Ava S. King. This is the first book that I have read by this author, but as I love a great spy thriller, I was curious to see what I would find between the covers.
This proved to be an action-packed story with espionage, politics, agendas, drama, danger, mystery, suspense, deadly assassins, intrigue, secrets, lies, and more.
I did enjoy the story and am interested to see where the series goes from here. Being the first book in the series, I felt that there were a few ‘teething issues’-but the character/s, premise, and developments have left me wanting to join in for the rest of the series as I am sure there is a lot more in store for super spy, Teagan Stone.

Dinosaur Friends: 2 Books in 1: A Present for the Volcano and Saving Conifer’s Eggs by Lois Wickstrom is a cute, beautifully illustrated children’s story with dinosaurs, action, adventure, a little drama, and friendship- while also providing lessons in empathy, co-operation, patience, being helpful, and working through problems (just to name a few).
This book contains two stories- “A Present for the Volcano” and “Saving Conifer’s Eggs”. They are cute stories that follow Spike (an Ankylosaurus) and Conifer (a Tyrannosaurus), two dinosaur friends, on their adventures.
The bright and colourful illustrations brought the whole story to life.

Destiny’s Daughter: It Was the Best of Times is the third book in the ‘Intimate and Unfiltered’ series by Lynda Filler. Wow, if I hadn’t already loved this author’s work- this book certainly would have sealed the deal. It has certainly given me even more appreciation and respect for her…
This memoir would not have been easy to write- but still filled with so much heart and soul. A raw, emotional, heartfelt, inspiring, intimate, honest, unfiltered, and entirely fascinating window into her life- made for an engrossing read that played with my emotions.
The courage, strength, vulnerability and authenticity shared in her words was poignant, and moved me in so many ways- and there was a lot of thoughts amongst Ms. Filler’s insights and musings that were things I didn’t even realise that I needed to ‘hear’ or be reminded of. A lot of the story moved me to tears- as I felt for her, and/or, her words touched me so, so deeply. I recommend having some tissues close at hand, just in case you need them.
A wonderful storyteller with a beautiful soul and an adventurous heart- I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.
Highly recommended reading!

The Aloha Series Box Set (Books #1 – 3) by Jill Brashear – Review by Angela Hayes

Aloha Series Box Set Books 1-3Aloha Series Box Set Books 1-3 by Jill Brashear
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars

Aloha Series Boxset contain the three books in the series by Jill Brashear. It is a great deal, three books for the price of one #winning!
The series is set against the tropical and picturesque backdrop of Hawaii. There is a retro historical element to the story too, as it is set in the1960’s, which definitely added an extra element of interest to the stories/series for me.
The boxset contains:

TRY EASY (BOOK #1)
This is a vacation romance with a bit of a love triangle. Lou travel to Hawaii for a vacation, leaving her fiancé back home in Seattle. She soon meets a local surfer named Keoni, and a friendship is formed. With a fiancé back home, she fights her attraction to Keoni- what does the future hold for these two. Will Lou return to Seattle and her fiancé? This story makes for a great read….

TRY ME (BOOK #2)
This is a fake relationship romance. Declan, a pro surfer seems to be at the top his game. But that’s not really the case at all. There is a sea of pain he hides from the world.
Pearl is determined to follow in her mother’s footsteps and cement her place in the surfing world. Pretending to be Declan’s girlfriend wasn’t part of the plan…. but if it helps her achieve her dreams then she can pretend for a while. These two have so much chemistry and are perfect for each other… another wonderful addition

TRY RIGHT (BOOK #3)
We follow Claudia, a movie star trying to reinvigorate her career, and Henry the stuntman working on her latest set. Claudia is trying to recapture her past, and Henry has agreed to help. But along the way the lines of friendship begin to blur- and maybe recapturing her past isn’t so important anymore.
A sweet friends-to-lovers romance, with a little drama, plenty of chemistry, and a dash or two of angst…. just to keep things interesting.

Happy Reading!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Master Romano is the fourth book in the Masters of the Consulate series by Sylvia Black. It is a fantastic addition to this paranormal romance series- with vampires, witches, curses, feuds, agendas, an underworld society, politics, the supernatural, magic, danger, tension, intrigue, drama, emotion, superb world-building, twists, dramatic turns, opposites attract, duty, responsibility, choices, challenges, and a whole lot of sizzlingly HOT developments.
Even though this is the fourth book in the series, I really recommend reading the other three books before beginning this one. Each book in the series focuses on its own separate couple, but as there are interconnected details, as well as recurring characters that span the series- I really recommend reading from the beginning and seeing what has happened right from the start, as each instalment contains information that I feel would help you to better appreciate this book, and the series as a whole. And the series seems to get better and better with each new addition, making it extremely hard to pick a favourite from the four (so far).
I am really thrilled to find that there are 12 books planned for this series! Colour me excited!
Can’t wait for the next instalment!!!

Jake is the first book in the Billionaire Blind Date series by Toni Denise. This is a captivating billionaire romance- a contemporary romance with interesting characters, a little drama, angst, sizzling chemistry, and hot encounters. It is a great start to a new series that I can’t wait to continue.
I have read some of Toni Denise’s work before, but this is definitely my favourite (so far). I really liked the blind date aspect to the story and think it added an extra element of interest to the storyline. I also really liked Jake and Lauren, so it was easy for me to become invested in them and the outcome of their story.

The Prisoner of Paradise (Painted Souls, #1)The Prisoner of Paradise by Rob Samborn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 Stars

The Prisoner of Paradise is the first book in the Painted Souls series by Rob Samborn. This was such an engrossing read and had me flipping the pages to find out what would happen next. I was so immersed in the story that I ended up staying up well past by bedtime, reading the entire thing in one sitting.
It is such a well-written, gripping and vividly woven story- full of action, adventure, historical details, twists and turns, secrets, lies, danger, suspense, secret sects, intrigue, past lives, tension, soulmates, complexity, interesting characters, dramatic developments, mystery, and a famous painting that that is so much more than it seems.
Nick and Julia O’Connor embark on a trip of a lifetime, to explore the wonders of Venice- but little do they know how this trip would turn their world upside down, and how a famous painting would expose them to a centuries old mystery… leading them to mind-boggling discoveries, and dangers they never could have imagined.
This may be the written word, but it reads in such a way that the words become quite vividly visual- bringing the whole story to life before my eyes. I was there, right alongside the characters, experiencing everything as it unfolded. Mr. Samborn in a masterful storyteller who delivers a really exciting story. I enjoyed this book immensely and can see that it would make a fantastic movie too.
Bring on ‘Painter of the Damned’ (Book #2), can’t wait!

Felines and Fatalities is the second book in the Kitty Beret Café Mystery series by Ruth J. Hartman. It’s a fun cozy mystery- a whodunnit with murder, crime & investigation, quirky characters, a colourful cat café, plenty of felines, a cat show, humour, banter, drama, adventure, and suspense.
As we discovered in Book One, Ellie Warren owns the Kitty Beret Café where lattes and felines abound. In this instalment Ellie gets persuaded to host a cat show for rescue cats. Seems pretty straightforward, doesn’t it? Well, not so much. Things take an unexpected and sinister turn when one of the judges is murdered. With a nose for mystery, Ellie gets swept up in the investigation and is soon on the hunt for the killer. What happens makes for an intriguing read.

Shhhhhhh…. Can you hear that? It’s the sizzle coming off the pages of this book! Hard Lover is the second book in the Houston After Dark series, and red hot read, by Deborah Garland. There isn’t anything that I have read by Ms. Garland that I haven’t loved… and this book is one of my favourites of hers!
This HOT romantic suspense is a forced proximity, brother’s best friend story with plenty of chemistry, steamy encounters, drama, emotion, tension, revenge, hard choices, secrets, and so much more. I was instantly hooked, reading the entire book in one setting. I couldn’t get enough of all the delicious details- and found myself completely invested in the characters and the outcome of their story.
What happens when a sexy exhibitionist is tasked with protecting his best friend’s little sister? Lots of snap, crackle, and pop- that’s what. The chemistry is electric, and the sparks fly as danger stalks – what happens makes for an unputdownable read!

Together We Stand, Vol. 2Together We Stand, Vol. 2 by C.A. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 Stars

Together We Stand, Vol. 2 is a charity Anthology where all proceeds from the sales of this book will be donated to organizations providing relief to Ukraine. This is a collaboration by 19 talented authors who have each contributed a story- each one unique and individual to the author, but each using the same inspiration to create their tales- with the theme being survivor stories.
I enjoyed each author’s contribution, they were individual, while also complimenting each another, as well as the collection as a whole. This anthology has so many different takes on the theme- bringing us romance, women’s fiction, second chances, drama, danger, fantasy, mystery, adventure, myth, heartache, love, loss, hope, new beginnings, steam, the paranormal, emotion, tension, M/F, M/M, or F/F, and much more.
Some of the authors I am familiar with, while others are new to me, which is a real win-win situation for me as I knew I would love the stories from the authors whose work I am already familiar with, but it was also exciting to explore new horizons in the works of the other authors who are ‘new-to-me’, giving me the opportunity to get a taste of what they are capable of and the opportunity to find new authors to add to my TBR list.

The anthology contains:

Hidden Treasures By: M.A. Abraham
This is an intriguing fantasy with interesting characters who show strength in the face of adversity, and finding where you belong.

The Unknown Kings By: Skye Purington
This is a wonderful time travel romance and is the prelude to the new branch in the MacLomain saga- the new “Irish Roots” series. With magic, adventure, drama, heartache, prophecy, and good vs evil- this story has definitely whet my appetite for the rest of the MacLomain series.

After the Rein By: J.A. Lafrance
Rein Brooks life has been quite difficult, leaving her feeling lost and alone. Paddy Nickels might be the one person who is willing to have her back. Heartache, loss, connection, emotion, and finding love unexpectedly. A great addition to the collection.

Rock Star Lawyer (An Oliver Boys Rockstar Romance) By: Rose Bak
This is all about opposites attracting. Two hearts from different worlds find they have more in common than expected. A former Rockstar turned lawyer teams up with the daughter of refugees to organise a charity concert to raise money to support the Ukraine. With romance, steam, secrets, banter, drama, emotion, meddling family/family dynamics, secrets, and finding love unexpectedly made for a great read.

Clara’s Story: Part Two By: C.A. King
One of my favourites of the Anthology. This continues Clara’s story, bringing a character piece full of drama, angst, anxiety, doubts, and overcoming challenges. As expected from this talented author, the story was well-written, interesting, and emotional- made me feel for the character/s and invest in Clara’s Story. Well done.

Finding Fate (An Inspire Me Short Story) By: Crystal St. Clair
This is an emotional read. With a cancer diagnosis/battle, friendship, love, bonds, connection, determination, life, and some drama- made this a very connectable, relatable, believable, and inspiring read.

Teeth Are Bones (Blood & Ancient Scrolls Series) By: Raven Belasco
A paranormal fantasy with vampires, love, loss, history, drama, and more. The author has crafted a wonderfully original, well-researched story that incorporates clever, fictional world-building surrounding historical facts. Intriguing!

A Wife From the Homefront By: Jordan Leger
This is a short story that incorporates a lot of characters in such a short space. This is a military romance about military spouses and what it takes to watch your loved one be deployed. A story of emotion, tension, love, loneliness, and drama- with a dose of spice. It feels like it could be the prequel to a new series.

Surviving the Blast By: A.M Cosgrove
This is a very short story that packs quite a lot in such a small space. A military tale with action, adventure, a mission gone wrong, drama, and intrigue. Bo latest mission doesn’t feel right- and soon things don’t go according to plan. What happens makes for a bit of a gripping read.

Happy Hour By: C.L Collier
This contemporary romance is set in the “Discovering Us” series world- with recurring characters that bring some drama and emotion. Mari has just returned to work after a cancer battle and isn’t quite prepared for her attraction to her hunky new co-worker. What happens makes for a sweet read.

Headliner (Sometimes #1) By” A.L. Morrow
This is a short, standalone, M/M Rockstar romance- an enemies to lovers story about finding love unexpectedly. A sweet and steamy read.

Ensnared By: Emery LeeAnn & Zorha Redwolf Edwards
This is a M/M romance story. What would you be willing to do to find justice for your loved one? This is a father’s quest for justice and the cost involved. A darker story with triggers, love, loss, grief, redemption, challenges, and hope.

The Shimmer By: Tricia Daniels
“Ancient Natives believe that a hummingbird crossing your path means you’re on a journey, and by the end of your journey, you will develop the strength and courage to endure”… This is a contemporary second chance romance with challenges, change, emotion, drama, messages, family, past history, and interesting characters. A story with a message- “live in the moment and enjoy life’s simple pleasures”…

From Flames By: A.N. Waugh
This is a short insta-love, M/M firefighter romance about two broken souls and one fated rescue. With drama and some darker themes which made for an intriguing read.

Saving His Own By: Pandora Snow
A medical, second chance romance with emotion, challenges, drama, the weight of expectation, compromise, and sizzle. Will Artem and Elina get their second chance on love? Well worth the read to find out.

Twisted By: T.L. Mayhew
A sweet, steamy, western, small town, contemporary romance with enough chemistry, emotion, and drama to keep things interesting.

Cash has loved his Queen from the moment he met her. But Queen Renatta has a duty to her people. Can love overcome duty, responsibility, war, and challenges and find a way to bring these two together? A steamy romance with angst, drama, and sizzling chemistry. A very quick, easy, and engrossing read.

Ashes of Sin and Stardust (AnchorX) by Lindsay Murray – Review by Angela Hayes

Ashes of Sin and StardustAshes of Sin and Stardust by Lindsay Murray

What happens when you finally find the woman of you dreams, only to find she’s a complete brat? Reuben’s dominant streak is about to be tested like never before, but he is determined to tame, and train, this little brat. Alice has wanted a good Dom for what seems like forever, only to be disappointed time and again. Will Reuben finally fill the void in her life, and be the one she can trust to break her in all the right ways?
Ashes of Sin and Stardust is an AnchorX novel by Lindsay Murray. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Murray, so I really wasn’t sure of what to expect from one of her books. But I was intrigued enough by the cover and blurb to take a chance and dive in. This is an erotic, BDSM romance- with plenty of triggers, dark themes, emotion, steam, banter, pleasure/pain, drama, and intensity. This is not a light and fluffy read, and I urge you to read the warnings before diving in- see below….
“This book isn’t a sweet, lighthearted romance with a sexy ripped man and a sweet submissive woman. So if that’s what you’re expecting, turn back now. These two break rules….. This book contains depictions of self-harm, intent and thoughts of suicide, mention of child abuse, and rape. It also contains graphic scenes of some BDSM acts that are often referred to as “edge play,” and may be upsetting or triggering to some readers. This content includes knife/blood play, choking, spit, face slapping, degradation/humiliation, heavy impact, hypnosis and brainwashing, and consensual non-consent…”
I have read a LOT of erotic BDSM stories in my time and am always excited to find a new one in the hope that it stands out from the rest of the crowd. This is not an easy genre to master, and often I am left feeling a little disappointed, as was the case with this book. Sorry… This should have ticked all the boxes for me and been a scorching red-hot read. But unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. I felt that some elements of the story seemed a little odd, and not really in keeping with the main storyline- and didn’t gel with the rest. Added to that this is quite a long story, which normally I would find fantastic as I love nothing better than to really sink my teeth into a story and lose myself in all the enticing developments- but the length of this story really detracted from my overall enjoyment of the book, being quite wordy with a lot of information dumps which really broke the flow of the story for me. This book has the potential for so much more but as it stands it didn’t work for me. But don’t let me put you off reading this book, as plenty of other readers have given it 5 stars, so obviously I am in the minority here. I am intrigued but what else this author can do, so I will pick up another of her books to explore just to compare.
Emotive, with a big trigger warning!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Lindsay Murray!

Unbreakable Darkness (The Vigilant Book 1.5) by LM Preston – Review by Angela Hayes

Unbreakable Darkness (Vigilant, #1.5)Unbreakable Darkness by L.M. Preston
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars

Unbreakable Darkness is Book #1.5 in the Vigilant series by L.M Preston. It is actually set before the events in Book #1, Caged Fire. This story is from Dex’s point of view- but also adds to the growing ‘bigger picture’ of the series, so far. This book is also the prequel to Scepter of Fire (Book #2).
Dex’s life was turned upside down, and his big football dreams went up in smoke, when his father moved the family from New York to a much smaller city. He seems to be a magnet for trouble, soon finds himself in jail. Things just seem to slide downhill from there. But what a journey of discovery he is thrust into…
This continues the intriguing YA fantasy series with action, adventure, mystery, the supernatural/paranormal, drama, danger, family, emotion, discovery, love, and intensity.
Bring on Book #2!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, L.M. Preston.

In Plain Sight (Logan McKenna Mystery Series Book #8) by Valerie Davisson – Review by Angela Hayes

In Plain Sight: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 8In Plain Sight: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 8 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars

In Plain Sight is the eighth book in the Logan McKenna Mystery series by Valerie Davisson. This is another intriguing crime and investigation story with mystery, murder, friendship, danger, drama, a wildlife rescue centre, raptors, tension, and a race against time.
As I have said previously, this series is definitely getting better the further into it I get. In this instalment we see Logan McKenna begin volunteering at a local wildlife rescue centre, but trouble seems to have a way of finding her and she soon finds herself investigating another mystery when a co-worker is murdered. Her investigation becomes a race against time in order to uncover the killer before she becomes the next victim….
Wonder what Logan McKenna gets up to next?

Thank you, Valerie Davisson!

Blood Sector (V-Clan Book #1) by Lexi C. Foss – Review by Angela Hayes

Blood Sector (V-Clan #1)Blood Sector by Lexi C. Foss

5 Stars

“I’ve waited an eternity to worship you.” His reverent tone drew my gaze down to where he hovered just above my chest, his lips a mere inch from one of my nipples. “Now you’re going to learn what it means to be mine.”

Blood Sector is the first book in the phenomenal (new) V-Clan series by Lexi C. Foss. This is an epic paranormal romance- an Omegaverse fantasy set in a post-apocalyptic world, with shifters (wolves), immortals, supernaturals, action, adventure, mystery, bloody violence, suspense, agendas, danger, strong female lead, panty melting Alpha male, spicy and erotic scenes, incredible scene setting/world building, original and thrilling storyline, dark elements, fate, magic, and soooo much more. I have read most of Ms. Foss’s books now and can count on her to blow me away, each and every time! This one is one of her best yet! I can’t recommend this book highly enough…..
I know I have said it before, but as I was reading this book I was once again struck by how truly talented Ms. Foss is. She really has seemingly limitless creativity and imagination which makes her such a brilliant storyteller- these skills make her stand out from the crowd and elevate her stories to the next level.
So, what are you waiting for? Reading this review will take away valuable reading time!! Grab a copy and get lost in the pages just like I did. You really WON’T regret it. You’ll probably want to thank me later 😘
Another MUST-READ!
Can’t wait for the rest of the series!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Lexi C. Foss!!!

Notebook Mysteries – Unexpected Outcomes (Notebook Mysteries Book #4) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Angela Hayes

Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes (Notebook Mysteries book #4)Notebook Mysteries ~ Unexpected Outcomes by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars

Notebook Mysteries- Unexpected Outcomes is the fourth book in the Notebook Mysteries series by Kimberly Mullins. We jump into the action right from the outset with Emma and Jeremy thrust into a rather big challenge. There is another crime to solve, bringing mystery, intrigue, complexity, and some adventure.
Even though this could be read as a standalone without feeling like you are missing anything major, I highly recommend reading the previous book/s before starting on this one, as I feel that knowing what happened in the previous instalments will give you a far greater appreciation of the characters, motivations, and series foundations- and will enhance your reading experience of this book.
The story is set in Chicago in 1887 where we are whisked off on an intriguing crime and investigation story with a train wreck, bank robbers, murder, sabotage, a multi-layered storyline, suspense, drama, danger, adventure, historical details, tough decisions, family dynamics, fight scenes, tension, and mystery.
Looking forward to the next book in the series, ‘Haunted Christmas’…
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Kimberly Mullins!

My Darling Rogue (A Wicked Rogues Romance Book #1) by April Moran – Review by Angela Hayes

My Darling RogueMy Darling Rogue by April Moran
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars

“ “The lady in question has no interest in me. True, I’ve aided her a few times in past months, but we’ve hardly said two words to one another. She views me as little more than a servant. Perhaps even less.” Although he laughed at the possibility of Celia Buchanan ever accepting him as suitor, Gabriel admitted the idea filled him with a longing he could not ignore. He’d give his soul to have all obstacles of class and background erased between them. To be seen as an equal, one fit to pursue the lady he desired, accepted based on his character and deeds. ”

My Darling Rogue is the first book in the Wicked Rogues Romance series by April Moran. It is an interesting historical romance with angst, drama, chemistry, steam, emotion, secrets, danger, and more.
Lady Celia Buchanan is about to meet her match when she meets Gabriel Rose. Their chemistry sizzles and the sparks fly, with danger adding even more intensity to the whole story. What happens makes for a captivating read.
This may be my first read by Ms. Moran, but it proved to be quite an intriguing read, so I will definitely be exploring more of her books as soon as possible.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, April Moran!

Kara, Shieldmaiden of Eire (Forerunner Series Book 4) by Jay Veloso Batista – Review by Angela Hayes

Kara Shieldmaiden of Eire (Forerunner book 4)Kara Shieldmaiden of Eire by Jay Veloso Batista
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 Stars

Kara Shieldmaiden of Fire is the fourth book in The Forerunner Series by Jay Veloso Batista. This fantastic series has well and truly pulled me into the exciting adventures, and this fourth instalment continues all the action we have been following since Book One. I love how every new addition to the series helps to build a bigger picture, adding even more detail, depth, and development to what has come before.
As this action-packed saga is full of historical details, Vikings, battles, violence, danger, Norse mythology, paranormal/supernatural elements, emotion, challenges, mystery, suspense, intrigue, and lots of dramatic developments.
As I have mentioned previously, and what makes this story/series so engrossing, is the fact that Jay Veloso Batista has a real gift for telling an epic story- with an attention to detail that sets the scene so fully that the reader becomes part of the story and involved in all the action.
Jay Veloso Batista weaves a wonderfully detailed and descriptive story, with lots of clever touches that succeeded in keeping me glued to the pages, reading avidly to discover what would happen next. I am fully invested this saga now, thoroughly enjoying the journey that the author, and characters, are taking us on. This story wouldn’t be the same without these interesting characters, or the fantastic worldbuilding that Jay Veloso Batista has mastered so brilliantly. Can’t wait to see where we go from here!
Bring on ‘Marauders in Jotunheim’ – Book #5 (coming soon)!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Jay Veloso Batista.

Misfortune of Vision: An Irish Historical Fantasy Family Saga (Druid’s Brooch Series Book #4) – Review by Angela Hayes

Misfortune of Vision: An Irish Historical Fantasy Family Saga (Druid's Brooch Series)Misfortune of Vision: An Irish Historical Fantasy Family Saga by Christy Nicholas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars

Misfortune of Vision is the fourth book in the Druid’s Brooch Series by Christy Nicholas. This is a historical fantasy- with prophecy, religion (Christianity vs Druidism) adventure, magic, drama, mystery, aging, challenges, folklore, and fantastic world building. I have said it before, and I will keep saying it over and over again- I really love the attention to detail and vividly descriptive storytelling that Ms. Nicholas excels at- it brings her stories to life and makes them very realistic, believable, and entirely immersive.
As with the other books in this series that I have read, this is really well written, intriguing, and engaging. The story pulled me in and kept my attention right from the beginning. The character/s are complex, fully realised individuals who were cleverly crafted. The story was given an extra element of interest by making the main character Orlagh quite old. Her “life experience” was immediately recognisable and gave her a realistic and relatable quality, even by today’s standards. Things like struggling with daily tasks, getting tired easily, having to rely on others for help, how her body has changed as she has gotten older, experiencing the loss of family and friends who have passed on before her, and feeling her mortality as she acknowledges that her remaining time is limited- are all things we still deal with I our modern world. I found it difficult to connect with Declan though, and I’m not entirely sure we were meant to?
I haven’t read the books in this series in sequence- instead picking books by random- thankfully each book is able to be read as a standalone- but I have read enough of the series now to see a lot of interconnected details, a thread of sorts that runs through the entire series. I can see a link between books in the series, as we travel through time- and am appreciating the ‘bigger picture’ that is being built.
Looking forward to continuing the series!

Thank you, Ms. Nicholas!

Scandalously Yours (Titans of Manhattan Book 5) by Anise Storm – Review by Angela Hayes

Scandalously Yours (Titans Of Manhattan #5)Scandalously Yours by Anise Storm
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Stars

Scandalously Yours is the fifth book in the Titans of Manhattan series by Anise Storm. This is another wonderful instalment in the Titan’s series. As with the others, this is a contemporary romance with an office/workplace romance aspect, taboo relationship (he’s her boss), medical romance, chemistry, sparks, sizzle, angst, agendas, danger, scandal, tension, complexity, greed, emotion, secrets, manipulation, pain, heartache, meddling ex, and finding love unexpectedly.
After meeting Kristopher previously and not liking him much after finding out about the nasty part he played in Kenzie and Jonas’s story (in the last instalment), I went into this story with a bit of a heavy heart as I was convinced that I was never going to like Kris no matter what happened. Well, I admit now that I was wrong. He won me over, surprisingly- and I am so relieved that I don’t have to hate him, or this book lol.
As expected from Ms. Anise, the story was quite emotional and heart-wrenching at times- I really felt for both the characters and what they were going through. There were times though that I really wanted to shake them both for their lack of communication- so frustrating. Some of the subject-matter could be considered triggers for some readers, such the toxic relationship between Kris and his ex, her emotional manipulation and blackmail- using the children as pawns in trying to control Kris and the situation (I hated her with such a passion, and would have loved to have throttled her for what she did- she was such a *&^%$@$ <@~^?). There were also some intimate scenes that made me cringe a little, as all I kept thinking was that there was a huge potential for a vaginal infection (ie: I’m not against anal play, but going from backdoor to frontdoor and back again was a no from me lol… I kept thinking noooooo. But that is just my personal opinion, where I learned that you never go from the back door to the front door, as it is very unhygienic and can lead to serious infection in the lady garden- but again, that’s just my opinion. If you don’t mind then that’s fine too)…
I can’t wait for the Titans of Chicago series to arrive- so excited to see what those books will hold!
Happy reading!

Thank you, Anise Storm!
