Just One Time is the first book in the Beaumont Creek series by Samantha Baca. It is a small town contemporary romance with a friends-to-lovers-to-parents element that had all the humour, angst, and feels that you could want in a story. Abby’s hit forty and her biological clock is in overdrive. Her love-life is languishing. Her mother is meddling. And time is passing her by. She has loved him all her life. He’s her best friend after all. They’d never crossed the line of friendship- but an agreement, and one seriously hot night begins to blur the lines to the point of no return. Add a pregnancy into the mix and things take an angsty and intriguing turn. I did like the story, but there were times that the writing/story felt just a little awkward. But this didn’t detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the book. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Happy Reading…

Your Trainer Says Hi! is the second book in the Vengeful Vixens series by Indie Sparks. Ms. Sparks is a new-to-me author, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of her stories. But, I love a fun read and this looked like it could deliver all that and more. It proved to be a very entertaining RomCom with so much to keep me entertain from beginning to end. This is a humorous contemporary romance with a revenge plot, finding love unexpectedly, opposites attract, chemistry, spice, dirty talk, self-doubts/self-esteem issues, banter, antics, friendship, ex issues, alpha-male type MC, and sizzling encounters. The book has got some serious themes running through the storyline that may prove to be a trigger for some, such as: mental health issues, manipulation, body image concerns, and self-esteem issues. When Nade is betrayed and her life is turned upside down, she decides the best course of action is one of REVENGE. And so the fun begins…. I need to go back and read Book #1 now, as we get to meet Oakley who is Nadine’s BFF and apparently Oakley is the mc in “Your Boss Says Hi!- Book #1- so I just have to read what happened there. These two crack me up, and their friendship and antics are epic! I loved that even though this story focuses on Nadine and Wick, we get to meet/catch up with the mc’s from book one, too. But I digress-…. OMG- Heath, what a douchecanoe!! Like really!!! I sooo wanted to throttle him for Nadine lol. Wick on the other hand- one word…. SWOON! Can’t get enough of this series… I’m off to devour the first book but also need the next instalment- STAT! Happy Reading…

Braving Lily is the seventh book in the True Platinum series by Morgana Bevan. It is a fantastic rockstar romance with a sweet storyline, an opposites attract element, loads of chemistry, sizzle, grump vs sunshine mc’s, the nerd/boy-next-door gets the girl trope, second chances, emotion, angst, trust issues, and taking a chance on love. This instalment could be read as a standalone as each instalment in the series focuses on a different couple. But having said that, you will probably develop a taste for Ms. Bevan’s work, as I did, and will definitely want to explore all the other instalments of the series, too. A strong sassy rockstar whose love life has been news fodder has made her wary of love and skewed her view on romance and relationships. He’s been burned by love in the past and has no intention of getting too close to the flame ever again. What does a charity auction, a meddling mother, and a forced date bring to the mix? If you love contemporary romance or rockstar romances, then you will really want to read all the sexy, heart-warming details for yourself… Bring on Book #6, Daring Ceri (due to release in August). The Sweet Temptations Trilogy Boxset by L.M Mountford contains the three steamy short stories in the Sweet Temptations series (so far). We delve into a tale of temptation that sizzles off the pages. A young babysitter, a married man, his Boss’s daughter, steamy encounters, his wife, secrets uncovered, and some erotic fantasies. This brings forbidden liaisons, age-gap, romance with a why-choose element to the fore. L.M. Mountford succeeds in spicing things up with these titillating tales of temptation. This boxset is a very quick and easy read and because each of the three ‘books’ is so short. It’s one of those collections that you can enjoy when your reading time is limited, because you can pick it up and put it down without feeling like you are left hanging. There isn’t a huge amount of depth, or complex character development. But if you are after a little smexy in your life, then you’ll love what you find between these covers. I know I say this every time I read one of this author’s work, but I really wish these stories were expanded more, so we got more depth and development to fully ‘explore’ the story and invest in the characters fully. I get what the author was trying to achieve- but I wish they were a little more ‘meatier’. The Box Set contains:
–The Babysitter: A Forbidden Age Gap Romance (Sweet Temptations #1) Richard who is married with a lovely wife and young child- finds himself tempted by his pretty young babysitter. She has a huge crush on him and is very ‘flirty’- so he is having very lustful thoughts. Will the temptation be too much to resist?
–The Boss’s Daughter: An Enemies-to-Lovers Romance (Sweet Temptations #2) This book is another story of taboo temptations- this time it’s the boss’s daughter. We met Richard previously when he was tempted by the babysitter- and follow him as he encounters this latest temptation.
–Ménage à Trois – An Age Gap MFF Romance (Sweet Temptations #3) This book follows on from the first two, this time bringing Alice, Richard’s wife, into the mix. She has found out about Richard’s dirty little secrets and is out to settle the score. With her own secret fantasies, can she explore her own desires and teach Richard a thing or two in the process? It could either make or break their marriage. This is temptation of a whole other kind- bringing lots of MFF sizzle.
Under My Care is the first book in the Chase Care Book Series by R.L Dunn. This medical thriller series is a bit of a spin-off from the Chase Security series, which I absolutely loved, so there was never any doubt I would be devouring this series too. This third instalment brings an intense, full-on, action-packed medical romantic suspense- with nail biting developments, tension, danger, mystery, thrills, violence, thrills, agendas, secrets, angst, intrigue, chemistry, sizzle, dramatic developments, and more. Pete and Rowena pull us into plenty of danger and secrets- throw in a blizzard, blistering chemistry, and a menacing enemy resulted in a compelling, multi-layered story that had me completely invested the whole way through. I am thrilled to say that Ms. Dunn has once again brought her A-game, delivering another fantastic story. The series just seems to get better with each new release, and I can’t wait to see what the next book/s might bring. Happy Reading…

The Romanov Heiress by Jennifer Laam is a wonderfully gripping historical fiction story with plenty of dramatic developments that kept me engrossed the whole way through. This might have been my first read by Ms. Laam, but her passion for history and cleverly crafted story has ensured that I will be definitely be coming back for more of her work in the future. The author has woven a bold, rich, and lavishly textured story which is full of vivid descriptions that have showcased her attention to detail, all of which results in bringing the era, and story, to life. I can see this making a wonderful television series, or even an epic movie. This is a story based on the real Romanov family- bringing all of the ‘Anastasia’ feels- but with the authors original and fictional take on the facts. Its full of action, danger, intrigue, suspense, politics, agendas, dark secrets, complexities, and even a touch of romance. Four sisters have fled Russia in fear for their lives. Olga, the eldest of the girls takes it upon herself to keep her siblings safe from all the turmoil. Not knowing if the rest of their family is alive or dead weighs heavily on them all. They end up in England where they must try to adjust to their new circumstances. Their identities need to remain hidden. But a supposed betrayal means Olga will need to undercover if there is to be any hope of unearthing the truth. What happens makes for a captivating read…. So, if you love historical fiction, the Romanov era, or a gripping storyline- then you will definitely want to get your hands on a copy of this book. Looking forward to more from Ms. Laam. The Challenger: A Sports Romance Saga is the second book in The Hustlers Trilogy by Rowan Rossler. It follows on from book one- The Cruiser, but this story’s focus is on a different couples’ romance- each book promises to be a standalone, but with interconnected details, elements, and a few recurring characters shared within the trilogy. Chavez was at the top of his game, making an impressive mark on the tennis world when he just up and disappeared off the scene. Flynn is a sought-after motivational speaker and professional coach who works wonders in her clients’ lives, but is weighed down by her own demons. When a chance meeting brings these two together, Chavez is making his comeback and decides he wants Flynn to be his coach and keep him on track— focused and motivated. But soon the sparks are flying, and the ‘professional’ lines become blurred. There is as much ‘action’ off the courts, as there is on…. But both have their own personal demons to deal with, so when you add in a blemished reputation, secrets, emotions, an age gap, and unresolved issues between the two, it really makes for a great read… you won’t want to miss this book as Chavez and Flynn have quite the story to tell. This is a superb sports (tennis) romance, with a reverse age gap, opposites attract, interracial romance, chemistry, sparks, banter, intrigue, unresolved issues, suspense, angst, drama, forced proximity, taking a chance on love, overcoming challenges, and more. The characters were developed superbly, and the story not only had an intriguing plot, but it also sizzled off the pages…. the author definitely managed to weave an unputdownable read. Chicken Little Investigates is the first book in the Science Folktales series by Lois Wickstrom. It is a cute children’s fantasy story- a reimagining of the classic fairytale, Chicken Little (aka- Henny Penny) with plenty of fun and adventure along the way. The story has humour, mystery, friendship, investigation, and a little drama to keep things interesting. It introduces children to the concept of gravity but doesn’t go into it or explain any further though, keeping things light and fairytale-esque. I wish the internal quality of the illustrations matched the quality of the ‘new’ cover picture- as the internal illustrations are a little naïve/simplistic, and ‘bland’. They just don’t grab and hold your attention like the cover image does, and I was left feeling a little let down because of it.

Ocean’s Three is the second instalment in the Made In Heaven series by Elena Kincaid. This was a great follow up to Three Made In Heaven, and can be read as a standalone if you wish- but if you love paranormal romance, menage (MFM), steamy developments, and a little mysteriousness- then you won’t want to miss any of the instalments in this series. Cameron has had visions and been dreaming of Jocelyn for as long as he can remember. Then his cousin Reed appears in his dreams too- which brings a whole new perspective on things and an understanding that then sets them all on a course that fate itself had ordained. The story follows Cameron and Jocelyn through their first ‘encounter’, through childhood, where Reed then enters the scene, connecting the three of them in an inexplicable way. Through adolescence, loss, and all the ups and downs along the way, the author weaves a story that pulls you in and keeps you invested through every step of the way. There are flashbacks too which also help to fill in some of the backstory and provides an extra element of mysteriousness to the overall storyline. Add in love, loss, emotion, friendship, time, a Mediterranean cruise, sizzling chemistry, MFM fun, connection, and some drama- and the story really ignited. Doctor Frank Enstein (Doctors of Eastport General) by C.A. King is Ms. King’s second contribution to this medical romance series: the Doctors of Eastport General collection is a collaboration by several different authors, each releasing their own story set in Eastport General Hospital. This is another by Ms. King, a spicy, short, and sexy read that will keep you in its grasp right through to the end. Let’s face it, I already love Ms. King’s stories, so it was a given that I would be reading this book as soon as it hit my Kindle. And who doesn’t love a sexy Doctor? I know I sure do… This novella is a contemporary romance- and although it might be smaller in page numbers, it has the feel and delivery of a much larger novel. We meet plastic surgeon, Doctor Frank Enstein, who has a passion to help disfigured patients by repairing their damaged flesh and helping them regain some of their lost confidence. He wants to use his position to truly make a difference in the world. When he meets Barbara, their chemistry certainly sizzles, but he might get the wrong impression at first…Barbara, on the other hand, just wants to be feel ‘normal’ and pain free and is desperate for help- she meets Doctor Frank and finally has hope. But has she placed her hope in the wrong hands? Can and will he help her? What starts off as pretty casual, turns out to be so much more than either of them ever expected. This is a captivating second-chance contemporary romance- a friends to lovers rockstar romance with a best friends sister element threaded through. Brandon is the front man for rock band ‘Canis Major’. His whole life revolves around his creativity and artistic expression- music, art, and tattoos. So, when he loses his inspiration and his creativity begins to suffer, Brandon’s quest is to find something, well anything really, that will reignite his creative passion. This is where he encounters a blast from the past, in the form of Calliope Chen-Bisset…. will she become “His Forever Muse”? This is well worth the read to find out…. The Summer I Went Crazy by Laura Koerber is another intriguing story with plenty of thought-provoking content. As always, Ms. Koerber brings realism and complete believability to her story- making you feel like this actually happened. One Summer that will never be forgotten, for many reasons. Forty years later and it still is plays on the mind and soul. Now, can a phone call change everything? The story does have an emotive quality about it, and definitely made me ‘feel’ quite a lot as everything unravelled- it does centre around a crazy summer, and does contain sensitive subject matters, as in rape, which is central to the whole story – but this is ultimately a coming-of-age story- with dubious decisions, drama, angst, guilt, turmoil, emotion, and a first-person POV. This story is a rewrite of Ms. Koerber’s Coyote Summer, but without the fantasy and magical realism. This version is a ‘straight’ up fiction/women’s fiction story- which works really well. It is a bit of a character study too- with the whole coming of age woven through it all. Looking forward to seeing what Ms. Koerber does next.

Destiny of Light is the third and final book in the Quirk of Destiny Trilogy by Catherine Greenall. As with the rest of the trilogy, this is a gripping dystopian post-apocalyptic thriller with sci-fi elements, action, danger, agendas, good vs evil, GM messages, sinister foes, twists, and plenty of dramatic developments. As I said with the other instalments, Ms. Greenall cleverly weaves a dynamic, detailed, and incredibly descriptive saga, managing to pack so much tension, intrigue, and thrilling detail into the story. Each book builds onto what has come before- painting a ‘bigger’, more dramatic and yet truly believable picture. As I have said before, I can definitely see this trilogy making a great dystopian movie or TV series. As each book builds on from the previous, I really recommend reading the first two books before starting on this final instalment, as there is a lot of important plot information, character details, and backstory there that you should know in order to fully understand and appreciate this book. If you love intense, post-apocalyptic stories with a highly original plot, environmental messages, believability, danger, and plenty of action- then this is definitely the book/series for you. The Silent Road by S.N. McKibben is a long-haul trucker MM romance with plenty of emotion, complicated family dynamics, anger, angst, a sexual awakening/discovery of sorts, a quest for redemption, and drama it had a bit of a Big Rig “Brokeback Mountain” feel to it all. The characters are complex with their own personalities, quirks, and flaws. I found it hard to connect with them, especially Dan- which made it hard to invest in them or the story. We ‘hear’ the story from Dan’s POV, which I think added to my frustration because I didn’t really ‘like’ him much, and that caused me more discontent. I think if we got to see the story from another/other perspectives, then that would have given the story an added element interest and added much more depth, balance, and ‘texture’ (for me). I don’t know a lot about long-haul trucking, so that part of the story was definitely interesting. Also, the difficult family dynamics and the quest for redemption added extra angst and emotion to the story, as well as the complications that came with the sexual awakening/feelings that develop/arise along the way.

What Loretta’s Katydid Did is the fourth book in the Loretta’s Insects series by Lois Wickstrom. This is a fun children’s illustrated storybook full of interesting facts about insects, educational elements, a school science fair, various insects, and an entertaining bit of an adventure. Loretta loves insects and this time her Grammie brings her an orange tree all the way from Florida. Loretta discovers that the tree has aphids which are killing the tree. But because Loretta loves all insects she just can’t bring herself to kill them. Then she finds a Katydid on her tree- and her aphid problem is solved. With her school science fair coming up, her new tree and her love of insects might just make a winning entry. What happens makes for a fun read. This is not just a cute story, it also encourages children to learn while they read. I read this story with my grandson, but we wish the illustrations were better, as they are very simplistic and aren’t as bright, bold, or eye catching like a lot of Ms. Wickstrom’s other books- so they didn’t grab or hold his attention like some of her others have done. As with the other books in the series, the ‘new’ cover is great, but unfortunately the illustrations inside the book aren’t up to the same standard. With better illustrations, this would have been an even better story, in our opinion. But this year the box he leaves under Caspian’s bed is empty. Did grandpa forget to put a present inside? Follow along to find out what Caspian finds inside the box… With interesting characters, this quirky story was engaging, imaginative, and fun to read. Happy reading!

Frozen By Lies is the first book in the Sleigh Riders series by Martha Sweeney. I was so excited to see that Ms. Sweeney had released this new book, as I have loved her other works- and to find that this is a fantasy was just the icing on the cake for me. Noelle Frost and Nikolaus Klaus take us on a bit of a mad-cap romp- with plenty of eye twinkles, spiked hot chocolate, and cheeky innuendos. With bad blood between their families, their feuding clans are an added complication to romance. But fate has plans for them, and draws them together with a higher agenda at stake. And so their adventure begin It is a fun Urban fantasy- with feuding clans, magic, paranormal elements, a small-town setting, snow, bikers, funny banter/quips/antics, chemistry, fated-mates, family feuds, clean/closed door romance, and insta-love, providing a holiday romance with a fun difference. I enjoyed the story, for the most-part and look forward to seeing where we go from here with the next instalment. The dialogue frustrated me at times with some very ott spoofy innuendos that were overdone (in my opinion). If the innuendos were toned down a few notches, the story would have been much more enjoyable, but as it is they left me frustrated and definitely disrupted the flow of the story for me as I stopped to roll my eyes every few moments. I really wanted to LOVE this story so much more than I did. I had high hopes for this book, but it just didn’t deliver like I had hoped. Maybe the issues I had with it will be sorted by the next instalment- I’m curious to find out. Happy Reading…

This is a reverse harem/why choose contemporary romance with chemistry, secrets, angst, protective alpha-male types, insta-lust, stalker, danger, emotion, steam, suspense, past-trauma, and dramatic developments. The story is told from multiple POV’s which gives us a great perspective of what is happening. The story also has some darker details which could be considered as triggers for some, such as- child neglect, abuse, sexual assault, rape, and domestic-violence- so be warned. Streets of Shadow by Rebecca Bischoff is the first book that I have read by this author, but it definitely won’t be the last. It is a young adult/teen historical mystery set in Scotland in 1665, which gives the story an extra element of interest as well as adding some darker tones to the overall storyline. A bit of a coming-of-age story woven through the plot while also providing plenty of suspense, danger, action, adventure, intrigue, murder, tragedy, lies, disease, challenges, and even a touch of romance. Teenage Kenna (15) goes from discovering her sister has been murdered, to being on the run, to then being captured and locked up underground with no means to escape. She could lose all hope, but Kenna is a tough one, and she’s determined to survive and find justice for her sister. What happens makes for a thought-provoking and intriguing read. Ms. Bischoff has brought the 1600’s to life with vivid descriptions and attention to detail. Her story and characters are well-developed and interesting. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more of her stories in the future. Happy Reading…

A Dress To Remember: A Fairy Tale by K.L. Small is a captivating children’s chapter book- an epic fantasy with magic, action, adventure, life-lessons, evil villains, witches, castles, an enchanted dress, agendas, invaders, and high stakes. This is a story about how a spoiled princess steps up to save her kingdom- setting off on a magical adventure she could never have imagined. The story isn’t all flowers and rainbows, as the author added some darker, heavier tones to her storyline that bring their own challenges for our mc to overcome. We follow and get a front row seat as Zarina has responsibility thrust upon her under almost impossible circumstances- and watch as she navigates her new situation. Add in an enchanted dress- and the story takes an even more intriguing turn. There are several wonderful illustrations that also help to bring the story to life. Happy Reading…

Perhaps it was fear of how he’d be looked at conversing with a colored girl in this fashion, but he decided on giving a fake name instead. “My name’s Cal Ray.” She turned her swanlike neck, and he almost fell to his knees, just looking into her sensual eyes. The Forlorn Cowboy is the second book in The Studs of Clear Creek County Series by Stacy-Deanne. This is a BWWM (interracial) historical western romance with an age gap, cowboys, forbidden romance, a tormented hero and a damaged heroine, chemistry, angst, drama, emotion, choices, challenges, opposites attract, small town, and finding love unexpectedly. Another very short story from Stacy-Deanne, which made this novella a very quick and easy read. I would have liked to have read a longer version of this, as I think it would have been even better with more detail, depth, and development- which would have allowed me to really immerse myself into the story and connect with the characters more. I do like Stacy- Deanne’s storytelling and am curious to see what the rest of the series holds. Ale’s Fair in Love and War is the first book in the Love on Tap series by Sylvie Stewart. I have loved everything I have read by Ms. Stewart so there was no doubt that I would love this too- and Ms. Stewart didn’t disappoint. This is a fun enemies-to-lovers romcom with funny quips, banter, one-liners, antics, rivalry, prank wars, chemistry, sizzle, family dynamics, drama, and more. The humour and prank wars were nicely balanced by emotion and a few sweet and tender touches. I loved Cash and Hollis from the outset and was highly entertained by their amusing prank wars which made it really easy to connect with them- so I was only a few chapters into the book before I found myself heavily invested in them and their story. I devoured this book in a flash and by the time I got to the end I wanted to turn around and read it all over again. I really recommend this book, and I can’t wait to continue with the series. Fallen Soul is the fourth instalment in the War of Destiny series by Theresa Van Spankeren. Each book in this series builds on what has come previously, making for a fantastic read. I highly recommend reading the previous three books before starting on this one, because as I mentioned, the instalments build on one another, creating a ‘bigger picture’, not to mention hours of entertaining adventure to plunge into. This is an original, clever and intriguing paranormal saga with vampires, action, adventure, high stakes, politics, agendas, atmospheric world building, danger, tense developments, violence, and plenty of suspense. It is a crime thriller with mystery, action, adventure, humour, agendas, family, theft, pressing matters, time constraints, callous crooks, high-stakes undertaking, quirky characters, twists, and dramatic developments. Jas turns to crime in an effort to save her father. But things don’t quite go according to plan and now she will need to go up against some callous crooks before her father runs out of time. This book tells June/Chloe’s story, along with some of the author’s own experiences making up the body of the story. We read of family, connections, secret missions, alien life, space exploration, time travel, sci-fi themes, new age concepts, and much more. Again, as with his other unique offerings, I appreciate the amount of blood, sweat, and soul that the author puts into his writing, as well as his unique take on things. A Stranger in Disguise is the fourth book in the Inspector Scala Mystery series by P.J. Mann. I hadn’t read any of Ms. Mann’s books before, but I love a gripping read, so I was intrigued by what I would find here. What I discovered is a well-woven and suspenseful crime & investigation whodunit mystery- with murder, police procedure, drama, twists, secrets, and tension. This mystery is set in Rome, adding an extra element of interest to the whole story. With the staging of a cursed play comes murder and intrigue. We join the investigation following our stubborn detective as he endeavours to get to the bottom of it all. But with the body count mounting the case becomes more complex. What happens makes for an engaging read. I will definitely be going back to read the first three books, before continuing with the rest of the series. Happy reading…

Spirit Guide is the third book in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries series by Byrd Nash. This brings us another intriguing instalment in this captivating Gaslamp fantasy series. It is a paranormal cozy mystery with crime & investigation, sleuthing, ghosts, history, a moody atmosphere, intrigue, adventure, some humour, witty dialogue, slow-burn romance, dramatic developments, and interesting characters. I have loved this series from the beginning, so there was never any doubt that I would be reading this new instalment as soon as it released. Elinor Chalamet uses her mediumship skills to help solve puzzling mysteries. This instalment builds on the previous two books, providing a bigger picture as the mystery unfolds- also learning a lot more about Elinore along the way. Our female ‘Sherlock Holmes’ is on the case tackling a mystery with: Missing girls. A mysterious séance. Ghosts that become ‘real’. A bumbling apprentice. Secrets. And a connection to her past. It all leads to an intriguing, cleverly woven, fun little historical whodunnit mystery. As with the other two books, it is fresh, and fun- with a period setting, wonderful characters, and a moody feel- which gives the whole story added intrigue. It is an original take on the classic ‘Hansel and Gretel’ fairytale. This is another quirky story from Ms. Wickstrom’s seemingly limitless imagination. It was both engaging and fun. Hansel and Gretel set off on a picnic in the woods, but soon get lost. They stumble on a gingerbread house and so their adventure begins. Looking forward to more from Ms. Wickstrom. Happy reading…

His Protector by Sara Vinduska is an enticing romantic suspense that had all the ingredients to keep me engrossed in the story the whole way through. It is the first book that I have read by this author, but after enjoying being between these covers, it certainly won’t be the last. It is an action-packed romantic suspense with plenty of danger, chemistry, emotion, steam, and more. The characters are well-developed and interesting individuals with their own personalities quirks and flaws. It was easy to connect with them and I found myself fully invested in them and the outcome of their story. We have the widowed president of the United States, and a sexy Secret Service agent who will do everything to protect him in the line of duty. With an Assassination plot that places him in extreme danger she will need to fight her growing feelings if she is going to keep him alive. Things are about to get tense… Looking forward to exploring more of Ms. Vinduska’s work. Happy Reading…
