Non-Verbal by Molly Zenk is a moving Young Adult fiction book that is inspired by a true story. This story delves into the life of Emerson Rayne who has a more severe form of Autism which impacts on every facet of her being. I really felt for Emerson, and her family as they struggled through their journey. All the challenges they faced not only in their day-to-day lives, but also is trying to get the support and treatment for her special needs. This story highlights some of the challenges and difficulties a severely autistic person, and their families, experience. There are some heart-breaking and scary moments, lots of emotion, and some more inspiring and hopeful parts- all wrapped up in a well-written and thought-provoking story. Well worth the read!

How to Make a Flying Carpet is the second book in Alex, the Inventor series by Lois Wickstrom. It is an illustrated children’s story about making a flying carpet. It includes some science on magnets, magnetic fields, Earth’s Magnetic field, and what makes metal magnetic. Alex is an inventor and likes to make useful things out of unused and ‘old’ items. So we follow along as she brainstorms ideas for making things, and get to see her invent things. This is probably the ‘wordiest’ of Ms. Wickstrom’s books that my grandson and I have read, so far. But it did inspire him to want to try to make his own ‘flying carpet’- so it did capture his imagination.

Unexpected Entanglements is the third book in The Echo series by C.R. Alam. This is a contemporary romance with a fake relationship element, an unexpected entanglement, chemistry, sizzle, emotion, angst, love, loss, grief, a little drama, danger, finding love unexpectedly, fate, banter, and more. Chris Sullens is about to have his world turned upside down when he not only finds himself offering to help plan a wedding out of the blue, he also can’t deny the connection that simmers between the stunning innkeeper/wedding planner and himself. But things take a very interesting turn when he then agrees to play her (fake) fiancé. So, get set as the sparks fly, chemistry sizzles, and things start to go awry. I’ll Love You Tomorrow is the third book in the Trading Heartbeats Trilogy by Julie Navickas. OK, sooooo after reading the first two books in this trilogy I wasn’t sure Ms. Navickas would be able to keep the momentum going and match the impact of her first two wonderful books…. but I should never have doubted her because this was every bit as good as I could have hoped for, and more. This is Mitch and Lauren’s story- and what a story they have. Past history connects them – lives entwining since they were children. But that’s not to say that it was all smooth sailing- as rough seas seem to hit them when Mitch begins to withdraw. This causes hurt and confusion. Adding pressure to their relationship. When a fire destroys Lauren’s restaurant that she had poured her energy, heart, and soul into- she feels like her life in crumbling before her eyes. But she’s not ready to raise the white flag just yet- and has one last ditch gamble – So…. Ready. Set. Vegas! What ensues makes for a captivating read! Again, Ms. Navickas hit me with an emotional walloping. Her characters are so well developed, with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws. They are so ‘real’ and believable. It was easy to relate to them- I was connected and invested in them and their story. This was a bit of a bittersweet read for me as on one hand I was excited to get my hands on the next instalment of this fab series, but on the other I was a little sad as this is the final book in the Trading Heartbeats Trilogy and I wasn’t ready to say goodbye yet, or maybe ever…… But I am excited to see what Ms. Navickas might have in store for us next! I really loved Enemies of Doves when I read it and though it was a real surprise package- in a great way….. but I have to say that this book is even better- exceeding all my expectations. A River of Crows by Shanessa Gluhm is a tense and twisty read that grabbed me right from the opening scene. Full of mystery, suspense, dramatic developments, murder, intrigue, intensity, revenge, secrets, family dynamics, and discovery await in this intricately woven story full of richly detailed and descriptive scenes that really set the stage and pulls the reader into all the dramatic developments. ‘The Innovator’ is the third book in the fantastic ‘WaterFyre Rising’ series by Nadia Han. I love the way this series is building on itself. Even though each book has its own story and couple, all the books combined help to build a much bigger picture, giving us more morsels of information on the characters, backstories, arching storyline, and Waterfyre. The whole Waterfyre element is what really hooked me into the series in the first place, then add in some really intriguing characters and exciting storylines makes this series stands out from the crowd. Since diving into book one and developing a taste for Nadia Hans work, I look forward to each new release to find out what she has in store for us (and the characters). Each new instalment slightly eclipses the previous one, which is proof, in my eyes, of a talented author. This instalment is a bit of an enemies-to-lovers contemporary romantic suspense. A billionaire romance with drama, angst, tension, chemistry, sizzle, secrets, forced proximity, and contains sensitive topics/potential triggers for some readers (swearing, violence, the mention of suicide, grief, abuse, and eating disorders). The story was a little slow to build momentum – but as the story progressed and the pace picked up- especially with all the added angst, sizzle, drama, and suspense unfolding, definitely grabbed my attention and held it right through till the end. Looking forward to The Inquisitor’ (Book #4), it’s set to be even better yet… Happy Reading!

Operation Escape is the second book in the Space Force Rejects series by Landra Graf. It is a fantastically immersive sci-fi romance- a real rollicking space adventure with plenty of action, danger, drama, intrigue, suspense, mystery, alien races, forced proximity/bonds, chemistry, connection, science experiments, tension, choices, challenges, agendas, politics, violence, fated mates, and an escape mission. When it comes to sci-fi romance, Landra Graf is definitely one of my go-to authors as she always delivers a riveting reading experience, crafting her stories with incredible world-building, intriguing storylines, and quirky interesting characters. What happens when you throw a pansexual ex-military modified MC together with a greenhorn nerdy heroine who is on a desperate quest to track down her missing uncle. The supposedly simple mission goes awry when they find themselves ambushed and trapped on a penal planet, with a very large target on their back. Yep, you guessed it- things are going to get a little intense. They are going to have to come up with a new plan, and think on their feet, if they have any chance of making it out alive. Let the adventures begin… Another great read- Bring on Book #3! Happy Reading…

Amy’s Rebellion is book one in the Gemstone Massacre series by Julia Goldhirsh. It is a dark urban fantasy, with an enemies-to-lovers romance, magic, danger, drama, assassins, shifters, the paranormal, action, adventure, violence, elementals, LGBTQ+/gender fluid characters, agendas, sinister intentions, friendship, corruption, gemstones, myth/legends, armies, rebellion, good vs evil, originality, and intriguing world-building. This is the first book that I have read by Julia Goldhirsh, so I really wasn’t sure of what to expect from her storytelling. But I love anything fantasy, plus the cover and blurb quirked my interest, so I took a chance and plunged in for the adventure. I really wish I had realised that there was a prequel to this before embarking on the adventure, as I think that would have given me a better understanding and appreciation of this book- so I will definitely be going back to read the prequel before continuing on with more of the series. Obedience is the first book in the Ties That Bind series by Liza Snow. It is a romantic suspense with an age gap, forbidden, dark, teacher/student trope, tension, slow-burn, chemistry, circus theme, mystery, steam, areal performers, Shibari binding, opposites attract, drama, and angst. This is a story of longing, obsession, and obedience. A childhood outing to the circus sets off a yearning that soon borders on obsession. Turning from fan to protégé, past to present, darkness into danger- all while fulfilling fantasies. There are plenty of ingredients to make this a captivating read. But it is quite a slow-burn, which at times was very frustrating. Along with the fact that some of the transitions were quite abrupt, which invariably ‘pulled me out of the story’ every time it happened- making for a bit of a turbulent read. I also felt like the last third of the story was really drawn out and I found it hard to ‘stay immersed in the story’ and keep my mind from wandering. This book also ends on a cliffhanger- so everything is set to continue in the next instalment. I did find the premise and characters intriguing, so I will need to read the next book to see where we go from here… Happy Reading…

Yeti Left Home by Aaron Rosenberg is a fun Urban fantasy that had me intrigued right from the beginning. This is a well-woven paranormal mystery story with wonderfully quirky characters, the supernatural, danger, drama, intrigue, tension, folklore/legends, murder, crime, investigation, humour, friendship, discovery, fitting in, finding where you belong, and more. Wylie loves to live a quiet, comfortable, peaceful life. He’s shy and gentle- a nice guy- well, Yeti- to be exact. But his idyllic lifestyle is about to get a disturbing shake-up when some strange murders occur in the area that attract the attention of a Hunter, who then starts sniffing in his direction. Wylie ends up on the run and soon finds himself in the big smoke- where he can hopefully blend in and escape notice. But this new beginning brings surprising discoveries, as well as new mysterious murders, and the Hunter back on the trail. Now Wylie will need to unmask the killer before it’s too late. What ensues makes for a fun read. Looking forward to exploring more of Mr. Rosenberg’s work. Happy Reading…

Ten Thousand Shells and Counting (Teenage War Survival Book #1) by Nadija Mujagic is a poignant memoir of life in war-torn Sarajevo. This book is brave, confronting, inspiring, and a testament to the author’s resilience and strength of character to have survived such a horrific situation. Her story is eye-opening and emotive. Reading of all the challenges, violence, frightening situations, trauma, loss, grief, and her strength and bravery as she recounts her experiences made for quite a heart-wrenching read for me. Sprinkled with quiet insights, and a little humour, this proves to be an inspiring tale. A thought-provoking and memorable account of survival and the long-lasting effects of the war on her, and her family… Ms. Mujagic continues her story in “Immigrated” (Book #2)… Well worth the read!

Little Red, the Detective is the fifth book in the Science Folktales series by Lois Wickstrom. This is an illustrated children’s fantasy story- a reimagining of the classic fairytale, Little Red Riding Hood- where Maureen (aka Red) does a little investigating to find out what happened to her Grandma, with a little adventure along the way. The story has some mystery, investigation, drama, lessons, science, a wily wolf, Red’s missing Grandma, cookies, flowers, knitting, fingerprinting, and animal control- this also has a bit of a ‘darker’ tone than some of Ms. Wickstrom’s other children’s books. Again, this is one of her books where the internal illustrations are not of the same quality or style of the cover image- as the internal illustrations are a little more naïve, simplistic, bland, and somewhat boring…. which was a little bit of a letdown. They just don’t grab and hold your attention like the cover image does, so I feel like they let the story down. I think in a more whimsical style story those types of illustrations might work- but they missed the mark here, especially considering the ‘darker’ tone of the story too. Breach of Trust is the eighth book in the Madeline Dawkins series by Cynthia Hamilton. Once again, Madeline, Mike, and team must hit the ground running as three new, complicated, cases land on their desks. From a very contentious divorce, a father’s desperate plea for help, to malicious poison pen letters- the team will need to divide and conquer. Facing challenges is all in a days work for this plucky team- but there are some emotional stumbling blocks, especially for Madeline, as unsettling similarities between her current case and her harrowing past personal experience puts her on alert. What happens definitely makes for a riveting read….. I devoured the book in one sitting as I needed to know how everything would play out in the end. This is another exciting instalment in this fabulous series and Ms. Hamilton has, once again, upped the ante here by crafting fresh, new, exciting, and gripping investigations for MDPI (and us) to sink their (our) teeth into. This story is full of challenging investigative details, private investigating procedures, stalking, suspicious business dealings, danger, drama, malicious torment, harassment, undercover PI work, secrets, lies, desperate deals, tension, adventure, mystery, suspense, intrigue, and so much more. As with the other books in the series, this could be read as a standalone- but having said that, I highly recommend reading the previous books before starting on this one, as even though each book is self-contained, and each delivers its own fantastic read- all combined, they really help to build detail, character information and development, and impart other important and intriguing information that builds a bigger picture and offers insightful crumbs, which will definitely enhance your overall reading experience. Trust me guys, it really is worth starting this series at the beginning! Cynthia Hamilton is one of my favourite authors, and Madeline Dawkins is one of my ‘must read- no questions asked’ series that I have loved since devouring book one. I doubt if I will ever tire of her adventures- so, the next instalment can’t come quickly enough! Happy Reading…

Messenger is the second book in the Star-Crossed Celestials Duet by A.L Morrow. It definitely gives ‘Romeo & Juliet’ vibes, with a bit of a twist in the form of a celestial spin. This is a MM paranormal romance- an urban fantasy with angst, action, drama, celestials, demons, tension, chemistry, star-crossed lovers, fate, emotion, and sizzle. This genre is definitely A.L. Morrow’s wheelhouse, and she’s delivered another stellar read. She always manages to surprise me, in a great way. So, if you love MM fantasy with angst, and some sexy twists- then you are definitely going to want to read this story/duology for yourself. Happy Reading!

Undying Light is the first book in The Stella Maris Series by Aurora Wildey. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Wildey, so I really wasn’t sure what I could expect from one of her books. But I was quite intrigued by the synopsis, and I love a great urban fantasy- so I took the chance and grabbed a copy to explore. This is an intriguing urban fantasy with paranormal elements, magic, action, adventure, secrets, agendas, danger, dramatic developments, tension, and more. The story is told from multiple POV’s, which gave the story extra interest and depth. When Kaela is attacked, a stranger with enhanced abilities comes to her rescue, saving her, but is gravely injured in the process. Kaela takes a risk, exposing her own powers of light in order to save him. And so, the adventure begins. Add in a protective immortal, more danger, agendas, trust issues, angst, and plenty of secrets- and this story takes an intriguing turn. What does Book # have in store for us? Happy Reading…

Noah’s Not So Super Summer is the first book in A Super Series by Britany Tucker. It’s such a fun book that had me entirely engrossed right from the get-go. Ms. Tucker has again proven a knack for weaving intriguing stories that pull you in and hold your attention right through till the end. Her storylines are clever and fun, while her characters are dynamic and well-developed, making for a great read. Noah had plans for his summer, pinning all his hopes on a summer program that he hopes will shape his future. But all his plans come to a crumbling halt when the city is over-run with mutants who are leaving a path of destruction in their wake. Noah will need to get to the bottom of things and find a way to stop the monsters if he has any hope of salvaging what’s left of his dreams- and perhaps help save the day along the way. This is an entertaining teen action adventure with sci-fi elements, ‘supers’, the paranormal, bullies, heroes, mutant monsters, agendas, an evil mastermind, mystery, intrigue, drama, humour, high stakes, a ticking clock, hopes, dreams, family dynamics, challenges, emotion, and unexpected developments. The Lone Star Child is the third book in The Gods’ Scion series by Winnifred Tataw. This follows on from the previous book, so I highly recommend reading the first two books before starting on this one as there is a continuing storyline here with important information contained in the first two books that you should know in order to avoid feeling a little lost here. As with the previous books, this is another fantasy adventure with action, emotion, sci-fi elements, gods, revenge, family, loss, heartache, betrayal, magic, royalty, zodiac/astrology, powers, reconciliation, intriguing world-building, and interesting characters. Ms. Tataw has created an intricate world with unique characters, lore, culture, and beliefs. There are magic and fantasy elements, all woven around things we are more familiar with- which makes the story all the more relatable and believable. She also provides a substantial reference guide at the end of the book full of helpful information. The adventures continue in ‘The Sisterhood of Secrets’ (Book #4). Happy Reading…

Right in Front of You is the first book in the Morris Valley Gang series by Brooke May. I always look forward to reading Ms. May’s stories, as she never fails to deliver an engrossing read. Esprit de Corpse is the first in the Twins of Bellesfeés series by E.F. Deal. It is a highly original story full of imaginative details and intriguing elements. This is the first book that I have read by this author, so I really didn’t know what to expect going in. The blurb enticed me enough to want to find out what the story would hold- so I soon found myself tagging along for the adventure. This is a speculative steampunk fantasy with mystery, alternate history, secrets, high stakes, the paranormal/supernatural, agendas, action, ticking clock, family dynamics, science, danger, drama, emotion, secret agents, spies, and more. I found it to be quite interesting, with wonderful world-building and rich details and descriptions that really brought the whole story to life. Twins, Jacqueline and Angelique find themselves thrust into an adventure full of mystery as they scramble to try to stop a war. What happens makes for a fun read, and all the dramatic developments kept me turning the pages to see how everything would play out in the end. Happy Reading…

Other People’s Money is the seventh book in The Madeline Dawkins series by Cynthia Hamilton. Oh boy- Madeline and crew have their work cut out for them solving this slew of new cases. From embezzlement to unearthing a Gold Digger, every clue they uncover leads to more questions, complications, tangled web of secrets, manipulation, scams and cons, in the grab for other people’s money. But nothing is as it appears to be and the team seem to hit block after block- so will they ever manage to uncover the truth and finally close their cases- or will this be the time that Madeline and team get outplayed by the bad guys? Add in some tension, adventure, drama, mystery, suspense, doubts, and interconnected details- and things take quite an intriguing turn. This book could be read as a standalone- but I highly recommend reading the previous books before starting on this one, as even though each book is a self-contained mystery/adventure, and each delivers its own fantastic read- all combined, they help to build detail, character information and development, and impart other important and intriguing information that creates a bigger picture, which, in turn, will enhance your overall reading experience. So, trust me, it is definitely worth starting this series at the beginning! Cynthia Hamilton is one of my favourite authors, and Madeline Dawkins is one of my ‘must read- no questions asked’ series that I have loved since devouring book one. I doubt if I will ever tire of her adventures, so I hope there are many more to come. Looking forward to diving into Breach of Trust (Book #8)! Happy Reading…

Insomnia is a collection of short, twisted stories by Kelly Covic. This is an anthology of what some would call ‘campfire stories’- as they have all the ingredients needed to creep you out and jump at the shadows. This book may be made up of short stories, but they are all really well-woven and seem much longer than they are, in a great way, while delivering tales of the supernatural with plenty of spooky, chilling, dark, mysterious, paranormal, and macabre elements that will definitely unnerve you. The stories contained in this collection are: -Silent Sighs -The Attic -The Park Bench -The Music Box -A Closed Door -A Message -Thank You for Coming -Letter to Grandma -Idle Thursday I really love a great creepy read- any book that has me peering into shadows and leaves me unsettled is a sure winner in my eyes….. I found that kind of winner here, as this book contains not just one, but 9 stories that had me wanting to leave all the lights on before going to bed, and had me thinking about them long after I had finished the book. And they still creep me out all this time later lol. So, Ms. Covic did a fantastic job of bringing nightmares alive, that’s for sure. #omgmusicboxisscary I loved delving into this scary read- and I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a touch of horror in their life. Dawnbreaker: The House of Blood and Sun is the third instalment in the Tapestry of Worlds series by Hadley Thorne. It is a fantastic urban fantasy- a paranormal romance with wonderful world-building, interesting characters, vampires, fae, immortals, magic, agendas, politics, secrets, lies, danger, drama, adventure, action, mystery, suspense, chemistry, angst, destiny, different realms, mythology, opposites attract, discovery, and a quest for revenge. I was drawn to this book by the beautiful cover, but the intriguing story, interesting and well developed characters, and wonderful world-building kept me enthralled the whole way through. I will definitely be exploring any new releases to see where we go from here… Definitely worth the read! Happy Reading…

Savage Lies is the second book in the Hidden Valley Elite series by Isla Vaughn. It is a New Adult (High School) enemies-to-lovers “bully” romance with plenty of angsty drama, family dynamics, darker themes that may be triggers for some readers, emotion, and more. I highly recommend reading the prequel, Savage Start, before starting on this book as the story foundations begin there, as well as character introductions, and other ‘groundwork’ which knowing will help you better understand what happens in this book. As we discovered in the prequel, The ‘Elites’ are the top of the food chain at Hidden Valley Elite high school. They are brothers Cole and Damon and their cousins, twin brothers Phoenix and Shane. They are the football stars of school, and every girls dream- and they know it. It has been a year since the events in ‘Savage Start’, and Riley is back in town and enrolled at Hidden Valley. Soon sparks fly and personalities clash. Things are about to get interesting. But this isn’t a ‘light and fluffy’ read, be warned, the author takes a bit of a darker turn here which may be challenging for some. I am glad this book was ‘meatier’ than the prequel, as I was able to really immerse in the story and begin to invest in the character/s and developments- which I hadn’t been able to do in the prequel. I am so ready for the next instalment. Cole and Riley’s story started in the prequel and resumes here, concluding in “Savage Truth” (Book #2). Each of the elites are set to get their own book/s as well, making for a longer series to sink our teeth into. Bring it on! Happy Reading…

Return to Hoodoo is Book #1 in the Boudin, Bourbon, and Barbecue series by Reggi Dupree. It is a fun paranormal mystery with murder, magic, mayhem, banter, antics, friendship, family, colourful quirky characters, action, adventure, the supernatural, curses, thrills, drama, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, witches, demons, gods, curses, crime and investigation, and even a touch of romance. This is the first book that I have read by Reggi Dupree, so I really didn’t know what to expect from her story. But I thought the premise sounded like fun, and I really love paranormal mysteries, so I snaveled a copy and set off to explore. Since reading this, I have discovered that there is a prequel novella that is set before this book, and I really wish I’d known that before I started on this book, as I think knowing what happens there might have made my experience of this instalment even better. I felt that I wanted more backstory and character information etc here, and all those answers might be found in Hoodoo Heaven. So I will definitely be going back to read that to see if I’m right. What a zany, crazy, fun story- with just the right amount of intrigue to keep me flipping the pages. The characters really make this story, it really wouldn’t be the same without them. They are a quirky bunch, adding an extra element of interest to the book. Looking forward to seeing where we go from here. Bring on the next instalment- “Conjure Ink” (Book #2- due to release soon). The Traveler: Book Three is the third instalment in The Traveler series by Deborah Dugan. As with the previous books, it is a complex thought-provoking sci-fi fantasy with time travel, adventure, action, time and space/reality travels, energy manipulation, danger, drama, high stakes, risks, intrigue, tension, plenty of originality & imagination, humour, and deeper themes that makes this another highly creative read. As we discovered at the beginning of this adventure (Book #1)- The Traveler is an ancient ‘being’ who has travelled the universe and has taken on various forms over millennia, then using these ‘experiences’ as a means to gaining knowledge and power. This book explores time, reality, energy manipulation, dimensions, and much more. The Traveler finds himself in danger, and so the tension mounts as I followed along to find out how it all played out in the end. Colour me intrigued! As this is the third book in the series which follows The Traveler on their journey, and continues the ‘adventures’ we started back in book one, I highly recommend reading the previous books before starting on this one, as they will help ground you in the story, as well as provide interesting and important details that will help enhance your overall reading experience of this book, and series as a whole. Again, I felt this book was more emotional and impactful than the previous books- the series definitely seems to be getting better and better with each new instalment. There are even more threads, more attention to detail, depth, and development here than the first two- and even though I really enjoyed the first two books, this one is better still. Another unique, interesting, and thought-provoking read. I wonder what Ms. Dugan, and Harry, have in store for us next? Happy reading!

With Fire and Sword is the fourth book in the Thunder On The Moor series by Andrea Matthews. It is a fabulous time travel romantic historical fantasy with plenty of adventure, action, danger, tension, drama, mystery, suspense, angst, and more. Will and Maggie have been through so much, and just when their life seemed to settle- fate intervenes and turns their world upside down, again- requiring them to travel back in time again to try to fix things. What happens makes for an exciting read. If you haven’t read the previous books, I highly recommend that you do before starting on this instalment, as there is a lot of important storyline and relevant information contained there that will better help you appreciate and understand the developments, characters, and other intriguing details. Notebook Mysteries- Suspicions is the fifth book in the Notebook Mysteries series by Kimberly Mullins. This story brings intrigue and mystery that kept me guessing the whole way through. We follow Emma, and co, on their crime and investigation adventure. Bringing suspense, drama, danger, and tension- this quirky historical mystery had me engrossed right from the outset. This latest ‘case’ will test Emma like never before, as well as putting undue pressure on her and Jeremy’s relationship. She has faced many challenges over the course of the series, but this time they seem to be that much more taxing on her mind, as well as her emotions. Emma is thrust into the fray with multiple investigations that all grapple for her attention at the same time. Multiple threads play out as we work through the intriguing layers. The past will collide with the future, a wily nemesis who’s bent on a twisted game of cat and mouse, then attracting a new target on her back, as well as the lives of kidnapped children who are hanging in the balance, means Emma is going to have to keep her wits about her if she has any hope of see it all through. This could be read as a standalone, if you wanted, without feeling like you are missing anything major. But having said that, I highly recommend reading the previous books before starting on this one, as I feel that knowing what happened previously will give you a far greater appreciation of the characters, motivations, and series foundations- and will enhance your reading experience of this book. Looking forward to seeing what Emma (and the team) get up to next….. Book #6 can’t come quickly enough. Happy Reading…

Baz discovers that a huge lie now overshadows his life path. As a rogue warrior he has been to hell and back and now finds himself in the centre of a supernatural battle with the highest of stakes and things begin to look grim. Delany is a talisman-warrior hybrid who has spent her life protecting the warrior community. Now not only has she been kidnapped, but she will also need to fight her fatal attraction to the ‘enemy’….
