The Protector is the fourth and final book in The Freemasons series by Nicole Flockton. I have absolutely loved reading this series and meeting our sexy Freemasons. And this book certainly finishes the series off on a high note. It was a bit of a bitter-sweet read for me as I wasn’t ready to say goodbye, but at the same time I couldn’t help but devour the book to find out what happens. I didn’t need sleep, I needed answers lol… As with the rest of the series, this is a fantastic contemporary romantic suspense, with plenty of emotion, chemistry, angst, steam, danger, intrigue, action, suspense, sweet and tender moments, heart-warming scenes, recovery, redemption, hope, and healing. It has a ‘brothers-best-friend/best-friends-sister element which was the perfect way to end the series. After everything that Renee has been thorough, and the Freemasons in finding/rescuing her, she considers herself broken and ‘tainted goods’ unworthy of being loved. Declan’s protective nature comes to the fore, and he’s determined to do whatever it takes to protect her. What happens when the past comes back and threatens to destroy her life, again. Can Declan protect her and keep her safe? Will these two get their chance for their own HEA, or will the past prove too difficult to overcome? This is definitely worth the read to find out…. I highly recommend reading the previous three books before starting on this one, as even though each book focuses on its own particular couple, there are overlapping/common elements, recurring characters, as well as each book contributing to painting a bigger picture… So having all that previous information on board will definitely enhance your reading experience of this book and give you a greater appreciation of the series, as a whole. Ghost Talker is the first book in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries series by Byrd Nash. This is a superb Gaslamp fantasy with mystery, crime & investigation, ghosts, history, slow-burn romance, murder, paranormal elements, the supernatural, a dark and moody atmosphere, intrigue, adventure, humour, and much more. I have loved everything I have read by this talented author, so it was never a question of whether I would read this book when it released. I love how Ms. Nash always seems to manage to bring us something different, fresh, new, and intriguing. This story is quite captivating as we join medium Elinor Chalamet as she uses her talents to help solve puzzling mysteries. This is a bit of an historical whodunnit which is cleverly woven into a Gaslight/Gaslamp fantasy period setting. It is fresh, and fun- with wonderful characters and a moody atmosphere which gives the whole story an extra element of interest. This is the first book in this new series which looks to have six instalments- so I am excited to see what Elinor gets up to in the coming books. Bring on Book #2- Delicious Death! Happy Reading…

Devlin by Angela K. Parker is the first book that I have read by this author, so I was curious to see what she could do. This is a great office romance- a frenemies to lovers situation that sees a forbidden relationship, jobs on the line, secrets, drama, angst, chemistry, steam, and emotion. Devlin and Eve are co-workers who are both focused on their corporate careers. With promotion up the corporate ladder in sight, these two have their work cut out for them. But things heat up as their chemistry bubbles over into their workplace. Giving in to their attraction will put their jobs on the line- is taking a chance on love worth the risk? After She Became a Lady by Wareeze Woodson is an historical romance woven with plenty of period detailing and descriptions, drama, danger, mystery, jealousy, angst, and interesting characters. As with the other book of Ms. Woodson’s that I have read, this historical romance is written in the ‘old school style’- keeping true to the language, terminology, social norms, and style of the era, which can take a chapter or two to ‘settle’ into for some readers. While I did enjoy the story, I was a little disappointed that I didn’t love it as much as I was hoping to. There was so much potential here for quite a stellar historical romance, but unfortunately it didn’t meet my expectations. There were quite a few issues that pulled me out of the story, which was frustrating. I was so disappointed that all the wonderful tension and intrigue that was built through the story, with one of the main threads being the whole ‘mystery’ aspect, which made me feel like we were heading towards something momentous- so when the ‘revelation’ finally came it seemed very abrupt and somewhat of a ‘let-down’ as everything was ‘solved’ and explained away in less than a page- so, pretty much brushed over.…. which was very underwhelming. Also, there were a lot of details that were thrown into the story that didn’t really build or contribute to the story in anyway, except perhaps as fillers/padding/red-herrings- which was also a source of frustration for me. There was a lot of repeated information/details which disrupted the flow of the story, and times where the story slows so much that it lost all momentum, while the last part of the story, and ending, felt incredibly rushed. I love Ms. Woodson’s story ideas and her attention to historical details, and her characters are always very intriguing, so I am interested to see what she will do next. Happy Reading…

Better Gnomes & Gardens is the first book in the Mysty Haven Mystery series, and debut novel, by Casey Cardel. This is a fun paranormal cozy mystery with a well-woven plot full of magical realism, crime & investigation, intrigue, humour, action, suspense, drama, and wonderfully quirky characters. I loved the character development of the story, as Ms. Cardel has skilfully crafted her characters into fully realised individuals, who really made this story come to life. They were all so quirky, which definitely added an extra element of interest to the story. The story was such a fun introduction to Ms. Cardel’s writing, and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more of her work in the future. If this is what she can do as her debut, the future certainly looks bright. Happy Reading…
Master Catteneo is the fifth book in the Masters of the Consulate series by Sylvia Black. This fantastic paranormal romance series just gets better and better with each new addition. I gave up trying to pick my favourite, as they are all so good. This is definitely a series to sink your teeth into- especially if you love paranormal romance, vampire, romantic suspense, and plenty of steam. And the best part is that there are 12 books planned for the series…. which means more sexy vampires to love…. WOOT! Again, we’re thrust into an underworld society with lots of action, supernatural elements, politics, magic, danger, tension, intrigue, drama, emotion, dramatic developments, challenges, and masterful world-building…… Oh, and did I mention VAMPIRES!!!!! I highly recommend reading the other books in the series before beginning this one. Because even though you could read this as a standalone, as each book in the series focuses on its own separate couple, there are, however, some interconnected details as well as recurring characters that span the series- so this is why I really recommend reading from the beginning so you know what’s happened right from the start. I feel that each book contains juicy information that would help you to better appreciate this book, as well as the series as a whole. Bring on Book Six!!! Can’t wait!!! Happy Reading…

Soliloquy by Janet Fogg is a story about how the power of love can even transcend time. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Fogg, so I really wasn’t sure of what to expect from one of her stories. But the premise intrigued me enough to grab a copy and join the adventure. Concert pianist, Erin, finds herself thrust back in time to WWII Nazi occupied France where she is caught up in plenty of action- helping the resistance, as well as a downed British pilot who just happens to have ties to Erin’s own time. With agendas, danger, time running out, high stakes, history, romance, twists, and lots of dramatic developments, this story proved to be a bit of a page-turner. Petty’s Crime is the third book in Satan’s Devils MC Las Vegas Series by Manda Mellett. I must confess that I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy this story, because I was certain that I didn’t like Petty in the beginning. But after reading a few of Ms. Mellett’s books, and knowing she has done this to me in the past, and won me over, I knew I just needed to trust her and keep reading-and wow, I am so glad that I did! Ms. Mellett drew me into quite an intense and emotional story- my poor heart ached for what Petty had been through. I was so invested in him and the story- I couldn’t put it down, devouring every page just so I could discover what would happen. There was a lot of action, some gritty scenes, touching and tender moments, dramatic developments/revelations, sizzle, tension, sensitive topics, and plenty of raw emotion. If you love a really well written, riveting MC story- with complex, quirky and loveable characters, and a captivating plot- then this is definitely the book for you. Be warned though, you may discover that one of Ms. Mellett’s addictive books may not be enough! Bring on Book #4…. Happy Reading!

The Kidnapping by Linda Burson is such a fun romantic suspense story that had my attention right from the beginning. It is wonderfully woven with humour, wit, mystery, drama, intrigue, agendas, secrets, and danger. Jenna and Andy find themselves at opposite ends of a kidnapping plot, and this is where things go a little awry. Neither could have predicted how things would develop- and what ensues makes for a very entertaining read. I have read many of Ms. Burson’s books now and have loved them all, so when I saw this pop up on my recommended book list, I didn’t hesitate to pick up a copy to explore. As expected from Ms. Burson, this story is really well written- with just the right amount of tension and intrigue to get you turning the pages to find out what happens. The witty humour added an extra element fun into the story, making for a highly entertaining story. Looking forward to seeing what Ms. Burson has planned next! Happy Reading!

The Magical Summer of Miranda Stone is the first instalment in The Emergence Duology by A.D. Brazeau. This is a YA fantasy, with magical realism, self-discovery, music, fun, friendship, romance, drama, complication, challenges, humour, and quirky characters. I thought it was a great ‘start’ to the story, but as this is a duology, the story is set to continue in book #2. I was intrigued by the story and characters and thought the setting of New Orleans, the fact that our mc is a runaway 16 year-old, friendship, ‘found’ family, and self-discovery added an interesting element to the well thought out and woven storyline. I would have liked to have seen/explored more of the magical side of the plot…. but will wait to see what develops in Book #2. Happy reading!

Finding Bryce is the first book in the Green Brotherhood: SEAL Team XII series by Debra Parmley. It is an engrossing military romantic suspense with SEALs, drama, danger, tension, chemistry, sizzle, emotion, unexpected developments, angst, and finding love unexpectedly. This is a short, quick, and easy read- though the story was complete, I would have liked to have read a longer, meatier version of the story… because who doesn’t want to spend a longer time between the covers with a hot and hunky SEAL? That being said, I did enjoy the book and I am looking forward to continuing the series. Happy Reading!

Musical Murder Mystery Boxed Set #1 contains the first three books in this fun ‘musical’ mystery series by K.L. Montgomery. They’re intriguing cozy mysteries- where each book has its own ‘musical’ theme…. The Sound of Music, West Side Story, and Little Shop of Horrors- which gives each book, and the series as a whole, its own unique feel and identity. But you don’t need to love musicals, or even know anything about them, to appreciate each story…..but, for me, knowing the musical added an extra sense of fun to my overall reading experience. We have a recurring cast of characters, who are well-developed, fun, and quirky. Ruby is so easy to like and made the stories all the more fun and interesting. Each book contains its own ‘mystery- which Ruby (and Co) investigate and try to solve. As Ruby is part of a traveling theatre performance troupe, the mysteries take place in different places where the troupe is booked to perform. This series of whodunnit’s comes with plenty of wit, charm, fun, crime and investigation, drama, suspense, some mayhem, antics, banter, danger, intrigue, and much more…. all cleverly choreographed by K.L. Shadow and Crystal Thorns is the second book in the Fae and Crystal Thorns series by Kay L. Moody. As we discovered in Book #1, this series is a spellbinding spin-off from the ‘Fae of Bitter Thorn’ series (Chloe, our mc here is Elora’s (from FoBT series) sister. This is such a fabulous YA fantasy with plenty of adventure, action, magic, danger, self-discovery, romance, politics, agendas, conflict, a battle for Fae Courts, sacrifice, hope, friendship, tension, intrigue, and high stakes. Oh, and did I mention Fae…. AND a Dragon?!?!?. Um…. If I didn’t already love Ms. Moody’s books, and this series- that element alone would have sealed the deal for me. The story continues form Book #1, so if you haven’t read Flame & Crystal Thorns yet I highly recommend that you do before starting on this instalment- as knowing what happened previously will definitely enhance your reading experience of this book as a lot has happened- so you’ll find that first book holds a lot of important information you will want to know leading into book #2. Shadow and Crystal Thorns finishes on somewhat of a cliffhanger, and the adventure is set to continue, so I can’t wait to get my hands on ‘Blade & Crystal Thorns (Book #3)- I am really excited to find that there are at least 2 more books planned to come after that…. The Warrior is the third book in The Freemasons series by Nicole Flockton. It’s another captivating instalment in this fantastic series which is making it harder and harder to pick my favourite book- as each instalment seems to slightly eclipse the one(s) before. These Freemasons have well and truly won me over. But it’s not just the hunky characters that draw me in- these books have got a strong, meaty story to go along with all the sexy yumminess and enticing steamy developments. With plenty of action, mystery, drama, intensity, chemistry, danger, tension, and crime + investigation- it kept me hooked right off the bat. I found myself reading avidly- devouring it all in one session, because I really needed to know how everything would play out in the end. Jude Cadmon is willing to do whatever it takes to find his sister. It has taken a while, but finally, all their efforts seem to have come to fruition and the end is in sight- failure, now, is not an option. Enter Sienna Townsend, the ‘bait’ they need to set the trap that will ultimately bring down the enemy. Jude realises that he isn’t prepared to sacrifice ‘everything’, so is determined to keep Sienna safe in the dangerous process, while also saving his sister. Yesterday’s Over is the third gripping book in the Philly Heat series by Becky Flade. It is another tense and intriguing romantic suspense, and is a fitting addition to this compelling series. It has all the ingredients needed to make it an engrossing read- with crime and investigation, mystery, drama, danger, chemistry, sizzle, tension, action, violence, and more. The story is a well-woven, with a tight and intriguing plot. The characters have been skilfully crafted into fully developed individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws. They were so realistic and believable, and made this story all the more convincing. In the aftermath of a massive explosion, Assistant Chief Medical Examiner Trudy Beasley case gets even more puzzling- but she is determined to find answers. Forensic Anthropologist Benjamin Roberts is pulled into the case and has a different perspective. Working together to figure things out, the bounds of professionalism begin to blur, as their attraction grows. All the while danger threatens as it endeavours to keep secrets from being unearthed. Mis-Spelled is the first book in the Stellaluna Chronicles by T.H. Leatherman. It is a fun YA fantasy with wonderful world-building, plenty of action, adventure, magic, different realms/alternate world element, wizards, elves, goblins, trolls, fairies, other mythical creatures, friendship drama, contracts, challenges, intriguing developments, and some self-discovery. This was such a fun read- a great little quest. My first read from T.H. Leatherman, but if this is anything to go by, it certainly won’t be my last. Looking forward to the rest of the series. OMG! Spiders creep me out sooooo bad!!! As did this book lol. It took quite a bit of fortitude on my part to even pick up this book to read. I am an arachnophobe from way back. But being as it is spooky season, and as an attempt to push myself out of my comfort zone- I grabbed a copy and carefully opened the cover with my eyes half closed. But let me tell you, it didn’t take long before they were fully opened. Spidersight by Tirzah M.M. Hawkins turned out to be the perfect spooky season read. A creature horror with a wonderfully creepy, scary, and suspenseful plot. I will never contemplate the idea of childhood imaginary friends the same way, ever again. This was such a chilling story to read and definitely creeped me out good and proper. The idea that a child’s imaginary friend could turn out to be so sinister, evil, and twisted. And did I mention, SPIDERS- everywhere!!!!!! Just about broke out in cold sweats in parts. Confession- some parts might have been read through small gaps between my fingers as I held my hands over my eyes. The premise was clever- weave in a five-year-old child, her imaginary friend who definitely isn’t so make-believe, then add in the SPIDER element, plenty of danger, murder, agendas, mystery, dread, a pervading sense of hopelessness, a rather large helping of fear, some tragedy, and lots of heat-pounding developments- made the story quite the twisted tale. There were a few small issues with the story, for me, where the dialogue felt a little ‘off’, and where some scenes/bits didn’t seem to be in keeping with the rest of the storyline- but these factors didn’t detract too much from my overall reading experience. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more stories from this author in the future. If you love creature horror, or are simply looking for a creepy story to read, or a twisted tale to put you in the mood for spooky season- then this is definitely the book for you. Happy Reading!
You know when you see a book pop up on social media that immediately grabs your attention, so you click on it to find out more- and the blurb ticks all your boxes and then some- but it’s from an author you are unfamiliar with, but you decide that doesn’t matter because you absolutely need to read it anyway?? Well, that’s what it was like for me, stumbling over this book, and then excitedly snatching up a copy to read because the promise held in the synopsis hinted at great things. Elemental Fire is the first book in The Hidden Realms series by E.G. Manetti, who proved to be quite a skilled storyteller. I was hooked right from the beginning and ended up devouring the book in one sitting because I couldn’t, and wouldn’t, put it down. I became completely lost in the story, in the best possible way…. This is a superb paranormal romance with different realms, magic, danger, action, adventure, mystery, suspense, intrigue, tension, chemistry, sizzle, agendas, twists, surprising developments, numerous mythical beings, and so much more. Ms. Manetti has masterfully woven a complex and vividly detailed world in which to set her story. As well as crafting wonderfully unique characters with their own fully developed personalities, who helped to bring her story to life. I loved Sin and Rad- they were just to perfect, and absolutely captivating. I was invested in them and their story right from their introduction, needing to know every minute detail. Their chemistry was electrifying, steaming up the screen of my Kindle, and sizzling the edges. The sparks were flying right from the get-go, and it didn’t take long for those hot embers to spark into white hot flames. But the sizzle didn’t come at the expense of the storyline, because there was plenty of action, danger, and intrigue to make this book something you can really sink your teeth into. I have to confess that I now have a new addiction, but it’s one I am only too happy to feed. I CAN. NOT. WAIT. for Book #2 to release!!! But, in the meantime I have discovered that Ms. Manetti has quite a few other books that I can devour- so I am off to explore ‘The Twelve Systems Chronicles’ while I wait for the next instalment of this series to release. Divided Lives by K.R. Mullins (aka-Kimberly Mullins) is a more ‘grown-up’ story from this talented author. It is a bit of a spin-off from her YA series, Notebook Mysteries- as Lottie (our MC here) is the niece of Emma (our MC from Notebook Mysteries). I loved this connection, as it added more interesting layers to the whole story. And I loved the more ‘grown-up’ elements, topics, and storyline. This is an intriguing historical mystery with plenty of dramatic developments, blackmail, conspiracy, secrets, suspense, crime & investigation, political ideals of the times, steam, romance, exploring sexuality, a progressive MC, wonderful world-building, and is all based on a true-life trial. The blending of fact and fiction was so cleverly achieved by Ms. Mullins, woven into a truly believable and engrossing story. I love Emma from Notebook Mysteries, but Lottie has given her some serious competition. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Mullins does next. Happy Reading!

Cooked: The Chef Blows Her Lid is the latest offering by Cari Schaeffer. I loved this fun story- it is full of humour, mayhem, and antics. It’s a story about starting again, of taking a plunge and hoping things work out for the better. Or is that, worse? Olivia has had the rug pulled out from under her feet, her ‘perfect life’ in tatters after her husband is caught cheating with her best friend- while her work situation pushes her ever closer to the edge. It all results in leaving her emotionally battered and bruised. So, she picks herself up, makes some difficult decisions, and begins to pick up the pieces to start over by investing in herself and her hopes and dreams. But has she taken on too much? Will she succeed, or will her dreams go up in smoke? And most importantly, can she keep it all together without blowing her lid? This is definitely worth the read to find out… Happy Reading!

More Text Than Sex by Jim Shomos proved to be a great introduction to this talented author. The story is a cleverly woven and entertaining tale full of humour, music, emotion, drama, self-discovery/finding where you belong, love, family, banter, romance, and complexity. Robbie is a hot-shot music manager who’s been tasked with co-collaborating on a song-writing contest. Along with, Annie, who is a single mother on the brink of reigniting her music career. And Cat, who is beginning to lose herself in all the volunteer work she does- draining herself for others, her energy and finances are being bled away and she’s not sure how to stem the flow- she’s in serious need of a lifeline and influx of abundance. These three are thrown together as the story unfolds, bringing about some surprising developments. The way the characters have been so well-developed with their own individual personalities, quirks, and flaws- and the dynamic between them- really made this story so intriguing- in a connectable, realistic and believable way. The whole music scene/contest added some fascinating elements to the overall plot. A great read…. Looking forward to exploring more of Mr. Shomos work. Happy Reading!

The Veil by Wanda Luthman is biblical fiction story that explores the tearing of the veil inside the Jewish Tabernacle at the time Jesus died on the cross. It is a story of faith, spirituality, prayer, and inspirational themes. The story is Christian fiction that explores the meaning behind the tearing of the veil at Jesus’ death and how it represents the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made for mankind, by paying for our sins with his death. The story ‘pushes’ the need for the reader to repent and invite Jesus into their lives. This book won’t suit everyone- but will definitely hit the right note for those looking for inspiration, or some faith-based reading.

Borrowed Time is the debut novel by Lane Cohen. It is a time travel fantasy with some sci-fi elements, drama, historical details, adventure, moral decisions, crisp dialogue, and interesting characters- with a bit of a nod to the 1960’s movie ‘The Time Machine”. What would you do if you could go back in time? Would you change your own history, or try to right some terrible wrongs? Well, that’s what these characters face when they invent a type of time travel, and adapt it to an old movie prop. We follow along on as they travel back in time and get a front row seat to all the intriguing developments. With the way things played out here, I feel there could be room for a sequel, or series? Ice Dance by Vik Azeem is an original urban fantasy that swept me up into quite a fun adventure. This is the first book that I have read by this author, so I was curious about what the story might hold, so I took a chance and clicked a copy, and set off on this fun adventure. The story is woven around an unemployed accountant, Hassan, who has come to a bit of a cross-roads in his life. He’s unemployed, about to become homeless, is a little jaded, and feels like his creativity is being stifled. Then, unexpectedly, he meets Yasmine who is like a fresh breath of air to his stagnant life. He becomes entranced by her free-spirited energy. But things aren’t quite what they seem as he is soon to learn. New Year’s Eve turns his world upside down and introduces him to a world he never knew existed outside of storybooks. With magic, different realms, portals, paranormal beings, secrets, danger, drama, friendship, family, banter, action, and dangerous foes- this story really comes to life quite vividly. I loved the sprinkling of humour throughout the storyline as it added an extra element of fun to the whole experience. The story is well-woven, detailed, and descriptive- with some clever world-building. Vik Azeem has a bit of a lyrical feel to their writing which suits the magical realism of the storyline. I enjoyed the story and look forward to exploring more of this author’s work in the future. Happy Reading!

Mafia Elite Box Set Volume Two contains Books 4 – 7 in the Mafia Elite series by Amy McKinley. This rounds out the series, so if you have yet to read the first three books, or Volume One Box Set, then I highly recommend that you do before starting this, Volume two. Yes, the books could be read as standalones, but together they provide a richer reading experience, as well as painting a larger picture, one you won’t want to miss. This is such a stellar series- which just gets better and better with each new instalment, and I really am hard-pressed to choose a favourite from amongst them all because they are all so brilliant! The series, and this box set, brings fantastic mafia romance- romantic suspense at its best, with plenty of action, danger, drama, intrigue, mafia politics, chemistry, passion, steam, tension, emotion, hidden agendas, dramatic developments, and so, so much more. What are you waiting for? Grab yourself a copy and dive in…. you won’t be disappointed!

Highly recommended.
Ruthless Heir (Book 5): Here we get his is Luc and Summer’s story- and WOW, Ms. McKinley certainly didn’t hold back with this story, keeping me on edge and completely invested in the characters and the story, right from the very beginning. I didn’t come up for air until I had devoured every word. I loved all the interconnected details, secrets, tension, danger, and intriguing threads that Ms. McKinley is weaving through her stories, and series. It makes for riveting reading. I am completely addicted, and I can’t wait for my next fix!!!
Collateral Damage (Book #6): I was so excited that we finally get Trey’s story. And what a story it is… WOW! Another fantastic addition to the series, and it’s getting harder and harder for me to choose a favourite because they are all sooooo good. We have met Trey previously through the series, as he is Sofia (Book #2) and Marco’s (Book #4) brother. His family is ‘the mafia’. But Trey isn’t really involved in the family business on a day-to-day level as he is a doctor working in a local hospital. But that’s not to say he doesn’t ‘contribute’ when needed. Trey is called on to help out on a kidnapping – and becomes more tangled in the situation than he desired. Especially since he and the kidnapping victim have some pre-existing chemistry. Queue the sparks and sizzle. But danger lurks and things are not quite what they may seem. What happens makes for an exciting read.
Rivals (Book #7): This is Mia and Nico’s story- and wow, you’d better buckle yourself in for this one. When Mia needs help, she turns to Nico for help… Nico is intrigued as she’s the ‘enemy’. There’s far more than their hearts at stake, and you know what they say about ‘no good deed goes unpunished’- so what happens here makes for quite a riveting read. You won’t want to miss this exciting story… but be prepared to develop a taste for Ms. McKinley’s stories. One book won’t be enough.

Breathe Underwater by Anise Storm and Taylor L. Ray packs quite an emotional punch. It is an intriguing second chance romantic suspense- a mafia romance with a bit of a twist and plenty of danger, mystery, suspense, action, chemistry, red-hot sizzle, push-pull, angst, and a complex, layered storyline. I don’t want to go into this story too much, as I don’t want to spoil it for you. I’ll just say that not everything is as it seems, and there’s more going on than first appears. I loved the ‘twist’ to the story- I though that was a great touch and added an extra element of interest to the whole thing, for me. The character’s past history added some angst and emotion to the story as well. And I also loved that there was more than one source of danger- which kept the tension dialed up to high. I hope that the authors are setting things up for a series… hint, hint. As I felt there was ‘room’ here to add more instalments. We will have to wait and see. There was a lot going on here though, with a lot of information being delivered, so at times I did feel like the story bogged down with the ‘info dumps’. Then at other times, the story seemed to be rushed, and skate over things that I though needed more attention. But these issues weren’t enough to detract to much from the story and I look forward to seeing if this is just the groundwork for a new series. Happy Reading,

The Virus of Beauty is the first book in The Virus of Beauty series by C.B. Lyall. This is a wonderful YA fantasy that has such a unique, original, and very imaginative storyline. This is the first time for me reading one of Ms. Lyall’s stories, but after finishing it I can honestly say that it won’t be the last, as I can’t wait to see where we go from here. This has a bit of an action-adventure feel, with magic, witches, wizards, a horrible virus, magical realms, romance, danger, dramatic developments, mystery, a touch of destiny, suspense, conflict, politics, and fantastic world-building. We meet Wilf, who is a wizard who prefers soccer than have anything to do with magic. But as a potent virus start affecting the witch population- hitting close to home when his friend falls victim to it too. He has inherited a journal from he father that holds the key to the cure, so Wilf will need to put aside his fears and find a way to unlock the spell and save his friend before it’s too late. A fantastic start to the series. This ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so things are set to continue in Book #2, The Veil of Corruption. Bring it on! Happy Reading!

Queen’s Destiny is the first book in the Blood Prophecy series by Barb Jones. This is my first foray into any of Ms. Jones work, so I really had no idea of what to expect going into the book. But the title, and blurb caught my attention- so I decided to take a chance and dive in. What I discovered is an original paranormal romance with vampires, werewolves, witches, prophecy, adventure, the supernatural, suspense, mystery, intrigue, action, conflict, agendas, tension, and drama- all wrapped around a battle for survival, and the powerful bloodline that brought about the whole prophecy in the first place. Amber Stone is about to have her world turned upside down- in a supernatural way. Little does she know that she has a part to play in an ancient prophecy and a battle for survival that has spanned the centuries. I really wanted to love this story far more than I did. I had a lot of trouble connecting with the characters- and therefore was left disappointed that I couldn’t invest in them and the outcome of their story the way I had hoped. There is a lot going on in the story, and it does get quite wordy at times, with a lot of information being laid out (info dumps), as well as there being a lot of characters to keep track of. I think all this caused the story to drag and lag in parts, and gave the whole thing a bit of a choppy, chewy, story… It is such an original concept that had the potential to be quite a stellar read as it holds a lot of promise, and I feel bad that it just didn’t quite work for me- but maybe it will for you.
