Faultless Love is the first book in The Bennetts of Langston Falls Series by K.G Fletcher. As Ms. Fletcher is on my MUST-READ author list, I have read and LOVED all her books- so I was really excited to get my hands on this new release. As soon as it hit my Kindle, I plunged in- and didn’t come up for air till I’d read every last word. It’s a superb introduction to her fantastic new series. As expected from Ms. Fletcher, this book comes with an emotional wallop that made my heart ache and go pitter-pat all at the same time. It’s a wonderful, emotional second chances romance that, like all her other books, has plucked at my heartstrings. With a small-town setting, intense chemistry, steam, family, love, loss, a painful past, worthiness issues, drama, healing, touching & tender moments, wonderful endearing characters, hope, an engaging storyline- this touching second chance contemporary romance proves Ms. Fletcher’s catch-cry that ‘love always wins’… Bring on ‘Shameless Love’- Book #2…. The Sacrifice is the first book in the Dragonpets series by R.L.S. Hoff. It is an original Young Adult fantasy with dragons, magic, mythical creatures, humour, banter, romance, and more. The story was a cute and fun read, with interesting and creative world-building- but I would have loved for it to have been longer, ‘meatier’, and more in-depth. I really feel that the story would have benefitted from a little more depth and development. There are times where the story felt a rushed or skimmed over- while other parts felt like a bit of an info dump or ramble. Overall, a fun read- but with a little tweaking this could become quite a stellar read. Will have to see how the rest of the series develops from here. Happy Reading…

Painter of the Damned is the second book in the Painted Souls Series by Rob Samborn. It follows up from The Prisoner of Paradise (Book #1)- so if you are yet to read the first book, I highly recommend that you do as there is a lot of important details, character information, interconnected elements/threads, and intriguing backstory that you need to know in order to get the ultimate reading experience from this book. This second addition to the series is everything I could have hoped for, and more. Mr. Samborn didn’t rest on his laurels, he upped the ante and bringing us another well-written, multi-layered, gripping and incredibly vivid story- which is brimming full of action, danger, suspense, twists, adventure, intriguing historical details, secrets, tension, corruption, agendas, complexity, layers, mysteriousness, and that famous painting that we discovered is so much more than it seems. After everything that happened in book one and only narrowly escaping Venice, Nick and Julia just want to get home and close the door on their nightmare experiences. But fate has a different plan, and instead they find themselves captured and returned to The Floating City. The sinister and ancient order are not done with them yet, believing that Nick can lead them to an ancient and powerful manuscript that they have designs to use to change world order. But does someone have their own agenda? Something so powerful mustn’t fall into the wrong hands. But Nick doesn’t seem to be in any state to help crush their enemy- so will it be up to Julia to save the day instead? But who to trust? Will she unwittingly enlist the help of the enemy? Kiss Away Your Pain is the second riveting instalment the Wounded Hearts series by Debbie Cromack. After reading Someone Exactly Like Me (Book #1), I wasn’t sure that Ms. Cromack would be able to match the captivating feel of that story, let alone better it. But let me tell you that I shouldn’t have doubted her, because not only did she capture the essence of that first book, she surpassed it- exceeding all my expectations along the way. If you haven’t read Book #1 yet, I highly recommend that you do. As even though this could be read as a standalone if you really wanted, I think knowing all the details of the first book will definitely enhance your reading experience of this second instalment. This is Candi and Enzo’s story- and wow, what a story they have to tell. They have been through so much- and are so perfect for each other. Holy hotness, Enzo just melted my heart and made me swoon so hard. We met Candi previously in Book #1, as she is Destiny’s bff. I was so happy that Candi got her own story and her chance at happiness. This story is such a sweet n spicy slow-burn contemporary romance with a ‘real’ and raw feel that definitely added to my overall reading experience. These beautiful, broken characters get a second chance to love again. And, as I am coming to expect from Ms. Cromack, there is plenty of emotion, angst, chemistry, heartache, and drama to keep us completely invested in the wonderful characters and all the absorbing developments. National Parks by Laikyn Meng is a heartaching story that spans over a decade- a second chance contemporary romance which you really will need to read to see what happens and if there is a HEA in the end. Ms. Meng is a ‘new-to-me’ author, but her story sounded intriguing, and the interesting cover drew me in- so I one-clicked a copy and set off to explore alongside the characters. This new adult story proved to be quite and angsty and emotional multi-cultural romance. The author weaves a realistic story with cultural elements, family dynamics, family expectations, struggles, challenges, heartache, travel, and adventure through Phoebe and Enzo’s story- giving us a broader perspective of what was happening by providing an alternating point-of-view. This might have been my first read by Ms. Meng, but after this emotional tale, it certainly won’t be my last. Looking forward to seeing what she does next. Happy Reading!

Super Enemies by Lois Wickstrom is an illustrated children’s story aimed at children aged 4 to 8. Bear with me while I get my thoughts in order here as I have really wrestled with my thoughts and how to write my review of this book ever since I finished reading it. And looking at some of the other reviews, I also seem to be the only one here with any concerns. So, let me start by saying that I have read quite a few of Ms. Wickstrom’s storybooks now, and generally, love to share them with my grandchildren as well as giving them quite positive reviews. But this one has left me feeling quite conflicted, and isn’t one I am prepared to share with my grandchildren. Now, how do I voice my opinion in a way that will make sense? Well, I guess I will just wing it and hope my thoughts come across clearly. First of all, I kind of understand what Ms. Wickstrom was trying to achieve with this book- I’m sure she was aiming for a bit of a silly/fun story about sibling rivalry and bonding through play. But unfortunately, it really didn’t come across that way, for me. The story introduces us to Mira and Carl, siblings who seem to constantly bicker and fight. They never see eye to eye at all, and this story would have made more sense to me if there was some show of or example of conflict resolution- showing young ones how we can have differing opinions, choices, likes/dislikes (you get the picture)- without having to resort to fighting. It was quite draining and a little confronting following Mira and Carl and watching them squabble constantly. I kept thinking why aren’t their parents stepping in and ‘positively parenting’ them. Instead, these two get rewarded for their bad behaviour by being taken to the beach for an outing- where their squabbling just seems to escalate to a whole new destructive level. And again, the parent/s did nothing! I could have accepted the whole thing and understood if the parent HAD stepped in and explained bullying, or even mediated some conflict resolution, or the characters had come to an understanding on their own…. As this would have totally changed my opinion of the story and cast it in a way better light. But that was not the case. I know the author thought it was probably inferred, but with little kids, sometimes these complicated things need to be spelled out. There was no agreement between Mira and Carl through the story to say that they would ‘battle’ for the day. There was no coming to an understanding of it all between them. Yes, earlier they had said she was a villain, and he was a superhero, but I don’t think a young child would have necessarily picked up on that. I really felt for Carl, because Mira was quite nasty in her actions. He was being so creative and diligently building his sandcastles- and she was being violent and destructive. It just came across that Mira was intentionally bullying her brother by destroying everything he built- and bullying is not ok. And it is not ok to even hint to young, impressionable minds that bullying is ok. But, again, I must stress that knowing Ms. Wickstrom’s previous work, I am absolutely certain that this was not her intent- and again, I seem to be the only one with any issues what-so-ever, so you need to take that into perspective here too- and that’s probably part of the reason I am writing this review with a bit of a heavy heart. However, I strongly feel that this story could be interpreted the wrong way and send the wrong message. The fact that the parent/s sat back basically while the children fought and didn’t intervene at all, even when things took a violent turn, and with the bullying/fighting occurring over a lengthy period of time, does give the impression that fighting is ok. And it is not ok. I feel it is a toxic message to be sending our young ones. Yes, we all know that siblings fight, even the closest of siblings can have disagreements- and for me, I would want to use such instances as a teaching/learning moment, especially in (this) a children’s story, by explaining conflict resolution, compromise, the idea of agreeing to disagree, and giving anti-bullying/bullying prevention messages etc. This story could have been a great anti-bully/conflict resolution tool with just a little more thought/development, and I am disappointed for the author that it isn’t. Even one of the pictures shows Mira with a slingshot and rocks ready to take aim at one of Carl’s sandcastles- on a CROWDED beach- and the parents did nothing! Someone could have been severely injured. A slingshot isn’t a ‘toy’- let alone to take to a crowded beach. Let alone to condone firing rocks with it???? Or am I being a little too protective. These things should be used under adult supervision, in a controlled environment- not by a little girl on a crowded beach, firing rocks willy-nilly. Just my opinion though. I know that Mira and Carl seemed to be ok with it all in the end- but it has sat badly with me. This is not the review I would have wanted to give Ms. Wickstrom, as I said, she has some truly wonderful children’s stories to her name- but I really feel strongly about nurturing young minds in a more positive way and I feel the ‘messages’ in this book could be misconstrued. Yes, conflict is inevitable, but shouldn’t we be teaching our children the right way to handle conflict and disagreements? I am not writing this review with the intent of insulting the author, as I know she puts her heart and soul into her work. I just felt that this book could send the wrong message… that’s all. I hope this makes sense… I have rated this book 3 stars, even though I had issues with it, as I know how much heart and soul this author puts into her work… Sorry, Ms. Wickstrom, and please don’t hate me for this review- I really did want to love this book as much as your others 💕

Hot For Teacher- Shakespeare Made Us Fall in Love by Felicia Carparelli is a contemporary age-gap romance with a student/teacher element, more mature characters, second chances, finding love unexpectedly, taking a chance on love, humour, banter, opposites attract, and comes with a duel POV. This was a ‘cute’ story, but I really wanted to love it much more than I did… and I’m not entirely sure why I didn’t invest in these characters and their story as much as I would have liked. As I said, it was cute n’ sweet- with an original take on the whole age gap/student-teacher trope, but I found it slow to get going and felt like it dragged in places, which resulted in ‘pulling’ me out of the story. And even though I quite ‘liked’ the characters, I didn’t connect with them like I hoped. I would have liked a little more drama, tension, and/or intensity to really put some ‘meat’ on the story’s bones to really grab my attention…. But it was not to be, so I have decided to revisit this book again in a few weeks and see if I still feel the same way, or if, perhaps, I was just having an ‘off’ reading day (confession- I had a bad dose of the flu at the time of reading, so perhaps that played a part in it all). I am interested in reading more of this author’s work in the future to see what else she can do. Happy Reading!

And Then She Fell by Dreena Collins is an intriguing women’s fiction story with crime and investigation, grief, loss, heartache, mystery, danger, drama, emotion, and interesting developments. This is the first book that I have read from this author, so I was curious by what I might find. The blurb intrigued me enough to want to explore the book- so I grabbed a copy and jumped right in. The premise is intriguing right from the outset, and the author cleverly weaves a story that caught me in her snare and held my attention the whole way through. I read avidly, all the while trying to piece everything together and figure out what had actually happened before the ‘big’ reveal’- but Ms. Collins managed to keep me guessing the whole way through. I really felt for Catherine, as a mother I can only imagine the devastation I would feel at the loss of one of my children- let alone under such a suspicious note. If I felt there was questionable circumstances around the death of my child, like Catherine, I would definitely want to know more and get to the bottom of what actually happened. The ending was definitely unexpected… A cleverly crafted and engrossing read… Happy Reading!

I Loved You Today is the second book in the Trading Heartbeats Trilogy by Julie Navickas. OMG- after reading the first book in this trilogy I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this instalment and find out what happens with Austin after he had his heart ripped out when Mavis chooses his twin brother over him. I definitely wasn’t ready for the emotional toll that this book took on my heart!! Duh- you’d think after the first book, I would have guessed that this would kinda wreak me lol… So yeah, Ms. Navickas battered my heart with her story- and I loved every minute of it. The way this book ends has me anxious for Book #3…. and I am pretty sure she has plans to shatter me once again….and yep, I really can’t wait! Happy Reading!

Misfortune of Song is the fifth book in the Druid’s Brooch Series by Christy Nicholas. This is a historical fantasy- with action, adventure, magic, paranormal elements, drama, romance, mystery, humour, young love, challenges, heartbreak, betrayal, danger, battles, bargains, and fantastic world building. I have said it before, and I say it again, I really love the attention to detail and vividly descriptive storytelling that Ms. Nicholas excels at- it brings her stories to life and makes them very realistic, believable, and entirely immersive. As with the other books in this series that I have read, this is really well written, intriguing, and engaging. The story pulled me in and kept my attention right from the beginning. The character/s are complex, fully realised individuals who were cleverly crafted- with interesting and quirky natures. I haven’t read the books in this series in sequence- instead picking books by random- thankfully each book is able to be read as a standalone. Having said that though, if you love a great fantasy with lots of historical elements, then you would most definitely enjoy the other books in this series as well- and after reading one, you will probably want to explore more/all. In this book we meet Maelan and his granddaughter Orlagh, who live in Ireland in the 12th century. Maelan is determined to protect his granddaughter, even from herself, as well as fulfil his duty to chief, and uphold the family name. Orlagh is a little headstrong and impulsive, and tests all the boundaries he tries to impose. But choices are made, and the consequences are quite disastrous. Maelan must decide what he is prepared to do in order to save her? Can he succeed? What happens? You really should read the story and discover all the intriguing details for yourself- it’s well worth your time!

Tink is the first book in the Devil’s Handmaidens MC series by D.M Earl. It is a MC romance- a romantic suspense with plenty of emotion, danger, dramatic developments, trust issues, damaged characters, friendship, family (of choice), finding love unexpectedly, human trafficking element, finding purpose, finding where you belong, chemistry, tension, intensity, and camaraderie. This isn’t my first read by Ms. Earl, and I know I can always count on her to deliver an intense read. Tink and Noodles story packs a bit of an emotional wallop and had me invested right from the start. A great start to this new series… Looking forward to Book #2- ‘Shadow’. Happy Reading!

The Perfect Mrs. Claus by Barbara Matteson is a charming and delightful holiday story with all the feelgood ingredients we love about Christmas stories. Savanah has been feeling lost and alone since her husband death. Her son has moved to the other side of the world for work, which means that Savanah is looking at being alone for Christmas. But a spur of the moment visit to one of her favourite stores results in a tempting proposal, which changes everything. These characters were so endearing, so easy to like- I found myself quickly investing in them and the outcome of their sweet story. Sprinkled with emotion and a little humour, this Christmas romance will warm your heart….. and is a great way to kick-off this holiday season. A Crossbow Christmas by Ann Swann is a women’s fiction story- a family drama of sorts set around Christmas in the aftermath of the pandemic- makes for an interesting read with a bit of an emotional quality. Carina, the mc, is such a relatable character, contemplating her life- feeling lonely, and a little melancholy. Her life reflection comes at the stage where her children have all left the nest, her husband and her have been married for so long that she feels they take things for granted. She has always been the one caring for others, but who takes care of her? Who is she if she’s not the caregiver? She’s lost herself in it all along the way and doesn’t know quite how to turn things around. After feeling overlooked and unappreciated, and with those life reflections weighing heavy on her mind- an opportunity to spend Christmas in a mountain cabin in Colorado presents itself- but she really isn’t the adventurous sort and going alone feels very daunting. Will she take a leap and go? What happens when she gets there? Will she ‘discover’ herself again and find new purpose in her life? What of her family? Will she get the Christmas she hopes for? Defiant Princess is the prequel for the Mafia Elite series by Amy McKinley. OMG! This book, and this series!!! Colour me addicted!!! Riveting must reads!!! This prequel might have come at the end of the series, but I love how, even though it is set in the past, it ties the series up in a nice big bow. Ms. McKinley has given us backstory to fully round-out the stories we have already read- and made me even more addicted to her writing. I Can. Not. Wait. to see where we go from here- and am eagerly awaiting the release of ‘Borrowed Time’ which is the first book in the new Verretti Crime Family series. We have encountered the Verretti’s in the last three books of the Mafia Elite series- in ‘Ruthless Heir’ (Book #5), ‘Collateral Damage’ (Book #6), and ‘Rivals’ (Book #7). If Mafia Elite is anything to go by, the upcoming series is set to be incredibly exciting! Seriously, if you love mafia romance, with a big helping of tension and suspense, then you definitely won’t want to miss this exciting series! Happy Reading!

The Fifth Daughter of Thorn Ranch by Julia Brewer Daily is a western women’s fiction story- a family saga with secrets, drama, mystery, family, conflict, kidnapping, suspense, adventure, action, romance, mother daughter relationship dynamics, and palpable tension. Ms. Daily has written a richly detailed and vividly descriptive story- her attention to detail really makes this story come to life and has given the characters a realistic and believable quality. The story is told from several POV’s, moving from past to present and back again, which captures the complexities of the storyline really well, and gives the reader a really great vantage point from which to enjoy the story. I thought the dramatic developments were really well crafted and made the story quite engrossing. This is my favourite of the two books of Ms. Daily’s that I have read, so far, and I look forward to seeing what she does next. Happy Reading…

The Rom Com Movie Club- Book One by Bernadette Marie was such a great read. It is a contemporary romance, with witty humour, banter, friendship, fate, angst, drama, chemistry, and wonderful characters. This grabbed me right from the start and I soon found myself fully immersed in the story, reading the whole thing in one sitting. The characters were really well-crafted into fully developed individuals with their own personalities, quirks, and flaws. Our MC’s are both a little broken and carry their own pain- and were so great together. There was a little insta-love, but the author didn’t make it too easy for them, throwing in a little drama and angst, as well as meddling friends and family, to build some tension and keep us (the reader) turning the pages to find out how it all plays out in the end. Another to add to my list of favourites by Bernadette Marie. Bring on Book #2! Happy Reading…

Pardon Me, Please is another cute and colourfully illustrated children’s story by Lois Wickstrom. The worst time and place to be a turkey would have to be stuck on a turkey farm leading up to Thanksgiving. Well, that is exactly the predicament that Albert, the turkey, finds himself in. When a family arrives and starts sizing him up for their holiday meal, Albert is desperate to find a way to save himself from becoming their dinner. With time running out, things look quite grim. What will he do? Will he get his chance for freedom and escape the fate of so many other not-so-luck turkeys? This cute little story is well worth the read to find out. Happy Reading…

The Dwarves’ Dilemma: A Science Folktale (Science Folktale Series) by Lois Wickstrom is a cute illustrated children’s story. This is a ‘Snow White’ story, with a bit of a twist. It has a sweet plot with bright and colourful illustrations to hold children’s interest, a little drama, lesson/teaching moments on problem solving- fairness- making mistakes- taking responsibility- mirrors- and reflections. And includes some science experiments you can do, at home or the classroom, at the end of the book. The story is easy to follow and understand and will easily hold a child’s attention the whole way through. This cute and quirky story was engaging and fun, feeding both the imagination, as well as inspiring a little learning. Happy reading!
A Christmas to Remember is a wonderful Anthology From 5 Prince Publishing containing seven romantic holiday stories by some wonderfully talented authors. These authors all have different styles and approaches to writing; and all the stories are each unique and individual to the author- but they each use the same theme, Christmas, and romance, as their inspiration. I LOVE everything Christmas, and as all the stories in the anthology are set on and around Christmas, it makes this an even more captivating read, for me.

Dream-Shifter by Lois Wickstrom is a chapter storybook for children 7 – 12 years-old. It is a wonderful little fantasy with shifters, magic, adventure, action, drama, self-discovery, and some suspense. This is something a little different from Ms. Wickstrom, as it is the first children’s chapter book that I have seen of hers. I was immediately drawn to the beautiful cover, and as my eldest grandson is old enough now to appreciate chapter books, I grabbed a copy for us to explore together. Gwendolyn is a dream-shifter who is able to become any animal she dreams about, changing back into a girl when she wakens. But what happens when she is startled awake one night after dreaming of being an elk, only to find that she hasn’t changed back into a girl and is stuck in elk form…. AND it is hunting season. Oh No! Will she find a way to turn back into a girl? Can she stay safe and out of the crosshairs of the hunters? What happens definitely makes for a fun read. Happy Reading…

Glass Houses is a devilishly intriguing short and dark paranormal novella by Sinister Styx. This little tale might be short in pages, but it packs the punch of a much longer novel. It is cleverly woven to capture the reader’s attention right from the get-go with a mysterious vibe that permeates the entire story. The mystery and suspense pull you further and further into the story as you try and figure out what is going on. This is quite a surprising little package- with all the dark and moody tension- as well as the intriguing aspects of the mystery…. But it is also very much more than it appears at first- and the revelation definitely comes as a surprise. Very cleverly done… The writing, scene-setting, and storytelling is very rich, imaginative, and vividly descriptive. The author has woven a lot into a small package, but skilfully choreographs everything into quite an enthralling read. Mix a toxic relationship with suspicion, doubt, mistrust, ego, pride, and tension- then sprinkle in some manipulation, violence, jealousy, suspense, curses, spice, revenge, and a touch of the paranormal…. and we get a riveting little treat from this polished storyteller. The Final Bite by Naomi Valkyrie is a fantastic paranormal MM romance. Another feather in Ms. Valkyries cap. She has such a vivid and abundant imagination, which she uses to weave wonderfully dynamic stories, bringing us something new, each and every time. She seems to have a limitless well of imagination and inspiration just waiting for her to release into the world for us to enjoy. Ms. Valkyrie never ceases to amaze me with her highly original storylines that all manage to have their own identity, but also capture her unique touches that add a special quality to all her work. This is another cleverly woven paranormal MM romance, with second chances, vampires, wolf shifters, action, mysteriousness, agendas, chemistry, family, hope, murder, a sinister foe, emotion, humour, fun, banter, and even a haunted house. The story is set on Halloween, which adds an element of mysteriousness to the story. “Every ten years, the gods choose a paranormal being who has been unjustly killed and offers them a second chance at life. But this second chance comes with a catch, as set out by the rules imposed by the Gods. 1. You have 3 days to choose a mate. 2. You cannot use your powers to directly influence your potential mate. 3.You can only choose one person….If the potential mate rejects you then you go back to purgatory. 4. You must reveal the truth of the challenge to your potential mate.” Easy peasy, right? Well not really when you are ‘dropped off’ in the middle of nowhere with the clock ticking on your second chance. No one wants to be flung back into purgatory…. Will Quinnlan find his mate in time? Or will circumstances force Quinn to put his second chance at risk? This is definitely worth the read to find out how it all plays out in the end… I can’t wait to see what Ms. Valkyrie has in store for us next… Happy Reading…

Dia’s Lure is the third book in the Solstice Quartet by Catherine Peace. This turned out to be my favourite, so far. The tension, emotion, and sizzling chemistry were set on high- and made for some intense reading. As this is the third book in the quartet, I highly recommend reading the previous books before starting on this one- as knowing what has happened there, and the other characters and backstories- will definitely enhance your reading experience of this third instalment. This is an emotional paranormal romance with a bit of a love triangle, chemistry, sizzle, shifters, magic, secrets, danger, originality, quirky characters, mythology, dramatic developments, angst, friendship, connection, and clever world-building. Ms. Peace certainly put her characters through the wringer here, making them work for every ounce of happiness. These characters had been through so much, and were each a little broken- but together them became whole. They were so well-crafted, so realistic and believable- I was instantly drawn to them, investing in them and the outcome of their story. And Ms. Peace toyed with my emotions the whole while. Revenge Honeymoon by K.J. Gillenwater is such a fun read. This contemporary romance had me hooked right from the moment I read the title. And even if the title hadn’t won me over instantly, the blurb certainly would have sealed the deal. This is a romantic comedy about love, loss, friendship, a honeymoon cruise, a little revenge, a fake relationship (with a difference), chemistry, insta-love, angst, drama, humour, antics, and finding love unexpectedly. How to make the best out of a bad situation, and maybe strike at a chance for a little revenge in the process. When her best friend is left at the altar, Emily wants to cheer her up and suggests they take the honeymoon cruise together instead of letting it go to waste. Only problem is that the cruise is only for newlyweds…… but they soon decide on a solution- taking the cruise by posing as a couple. Easy right? But what happens when Emily meets Mr. Right? Yep, you guessed- you’re in for an entertaining read- now let all the mayhem, antics, and fun begin…. Happy Reading…

Shadow Patterns of Melt: Book One by J.R.P. Fogg is a science fiction adventure story full of action, dramatic developments, interesting characters, agendas, politics, intriguing lifeforms, and skillful world-building. It is a very original story that was originally published in Kindle Vella in episode form. The story is packed full of thought-provoking elements that incorporates complex ideas, physics, interstellar travel, wormhole theory, time travel, and shadow pattern theory- as well as loads of action- which made this quite an interesting read. There were moments where the story felt a little ‘heavy’ that caused the flow to slow somewhat- but the pace would pick back up again, so it was not enough to put me off reading further. Nialla and Bishr were really well-developed characters who were cleverly crafted into interesting and fully realised individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws. I enjoyed following them on their adventure and will pick up Volume Two when it releases, to continue the adventures. Happy Reading…

Lucas the Spy Cat by Samantha Shannon is a beautifully illustrated children’s book, with a wonderful adventure story that is suitable for all ages. I am always looking for books to read with my grandchildren, so when I saw the striking cover, I knew it would be something they would enjoy, so I grabbed a copy and set off to explore. Not only is this a fun adventure story with mystery, capers, superheroes, animal friends, spies, and beautiful, bright illustrations- the story also encourages creativity, imagination, and learning. It was even more interesting side-fact to discover that Lucas the Spy cat is based on the author’s own real-life Lucas… A Fun Adventure… Happy Reading!

More Than by Diane Barnes is quite a relatable women’s fiction story about love, loss, family, lessons, denial, self-worth issues, journey of discovery/self-discovery, friendship, learning to live again, life, drama, and emotion. Peggy is so relatable- her issues were true to life and made it easy to connect with her and invest in her story. That’s not to say that I didn’t want to shake her at times, but even in those moments she came across as very believable and ‘real’. After losing her husband years earlier, and raising her twins as a single mother, Peggy had managed to ‘lose’ herself somewhere along the way. With weight issues and no ‘real’ life outside of her family, apart from her favourite TV show… about connecting with loved ones who have passed over. She’s a little lost, lonely, and partly living in the past. Her children have left the nest and moved on to the next chapter of their lives, which means Peggy really is at a loss. A gift from her children seemed like a slap in the face for Peggy, but is it really the key to unlocking the chains that have held her stagnant for so long? Does she find new purpose and learn to really live again? You should really read all the interesting details for yourself… This may have been the first book that I have read by Ms. Barnes, but after discovering how well she writes, it certainly won’t be the last… Happy Reading!

Rainbow Red’s Book of Poetry by Lily Lawson is a wonderful collection of poetry that, at times, reached right into my soul and spoke to me. Ms. Lawson seemed to effortlessly capture so many different emotions, as well as giving wonderful insight into our human experience. From beautiful and poignant, to emotional and complicated, shows a deep understanding of all aspects of the human condition… I saw my own thoughts and experiences reflected in her words, but she also gave me some thought-provoking moments, words and thoughts to ponder on more… A wonderful little book- full of meaning, emotion, inspiration, heart, and a little soul.

Order of Vespers is the first instalment in The Vesper Chronicles by Matilda Reyes and is an epic dark urban fantasy. It has a very original and intriguing storyline that explores the world of good and evil, order and chaos; and the Order of people who possess special abilities who are tasked with maintaining the universal balance. It is very complex story that has suspense, action, drama, mystery- and contains a lot of graphic violence. Jasper Andrews appears to be a fairly ordinary 18-year-old- she is a high achieving student, always on the Honor Role, is a formidable member of the debate team and a former cheerleader. She has a twin brother who she has a love/hate relationship with and an older sister who she really admires. Her family is pretty close-knit and supportive, if not a little overprotective. They value their privacy and don’t like drawing attention to themselves. Appearances can be deceiving, as life for Jasper and the Andrew’s family is far from ‘normal’ or ‘ordinary’; they are constantly vigilant and guarded in order to protect their secrets……. that they possess powerful, superhuman abilities. So, when Jasper finds herself at the centre of an investigation after a freak explosion destroys part of her school, the family must take measures to minimize any potential threat or unwanted attention being focused on them- and try to avoid being exposed. The police become the least of their worries as they come to the attention of a covert group, who have sinister interests in their secret abilities. Then Jasper becomes the sole survivor of her family, after they are all killed in a terrible and devastating event. She finds herself in the unfortunate situation of being the sole suspect in her family’s murder. Taken into custody, Jasper must try and find a means to escape- her desire for vengeance is the only thing holding her together in her overwhelming grief. An opportunity presents itself and Jasper is finely able to escape police custody. She is drawn to New York City, where she hopes to blend into the crowds and avoid detection. But unknowingly she has found her way to the Order of Vespers, who are aware of her, and of her plight. The Order of Vespers are the children of an ancient and all-powerful entity called Il Separatio, who holds the balance between God and the Devil, light and dark, good and evil, order and chaos. The Orders is tasked with keeping the peace, maintaining the balance and making sure that neither side gains too much power. Jasper may just hold the key to restoring the balances and protecting the Vespers and humanity from annihilation. But Jaspers abilities continue to strengthen and become harder to control. She becomes volatile and unpredictable- unable to fully control her power; she’s become a danger to herself and all those around her. The Vespers have no choice but to lock her up until she can control her abilities. But people of the order are disappearing at an alarming rate and danger is on the doorstep. Will Jasper learn to control her abilities in time to help the cause? Is she the key to harnessing the powers of Il Separatio and protecting the Vespers and humanity? Will she be able to restore the balance, or will the evil overcome her and win in the end? I really liked the concept of this story- I thought the plot was unique and sounded really interesting. The author really does write well and has quite a dynamic and robust style to her writing. The story is very detailed and descriptive with very complex plot- so many elements and layers went into crafting this story and I think the author has done a great job in choreographing all those details….. There are scenes in the story which are quite dark, gritty and graphically violent, and were really hard to read! Ms. Reyes didn’t shy away from these elements and added a dark, raw realism to her story. The characters were really wonderful. I felt so devastated for Jasper and was with her every step of the way, cheering her on to succeed. I was hoping that she and Jordy would connect more as the story evolved… I am hoping that there will be another book, where we get to explore this connection between them in more detail. As this book ends on somewhat of a cliff-hanger everything is set to continue in Book #2. Bring it on!!!! Happy Reading
