Hope (Feisty Lawyers Series Book 4) by Seelie Kay
4 Stars

This is the fourth book in the Feisty Lawyers series. The thing I like about this series is that the books are fast paced and action packed. Though they are short, so much happens in each one. I do suggest that you read the others first so that you understand the back story of the characters in this one.

This story centers on Hope Ali. Her and her father Sheik Ali sought asylum in the U.S when she was a teenager. It has always been her dream to work for the agency and at age twenty two it is finally coming true. She has surpassed all her training and is allowed to go out in the field. This mission doesn’t go as planned and Hope ends up broken in more ways than one. Can she survive or is her life in the agency over before it began?

Virtue and Vice (Spicetopia #2) by Phoebe Alexander
4 Stars

Though this is book two in the Spicetopia series, it can be read as a stand-alone. This book revolves around Moon and Katja whereas the first part involves mainly Cy and Jolie. It would be a good idea to read the first book so that you can get a background on the story line but you can still follow the story if you don’t. All four embark on a new enterprise, an adult theme park. At this park, there will be something to satisfy everyone’s fantasies. Sounds exciting! The four are getting quite comfortable with each other but certain personal problems arise between them. Can they handle things maturely or will their hopes and dreams of building this park blow up in their faces?

A little warning, this book is explicitly sexual. It is definitely geared towards a mature audience. Some scenes are so hot, I’m surprised my book didn’t catch on fire! This is another winning book by Phoebe Alexander.

I’ve read other books by Phoebe Alexander and enjoyed them. This was no different. It was a fun, light read with a lot of steamy romance thrown in. It was amusing to see what goes on behind the scenes of the theme park. Cy Sweet is the youngest son of the Sweets, owners of Sweetopia. They send him undercover to work in the bakery to find out who is leading the revolt that’s in the works. The moment Cy lays eyes on the Red Velvet Queen, he quickly gets sidetracked from his objective. The better he gets to know Jolie, the harder he falls. Working in the theme park is an eye opener for Cy. Can their budding romance survive the secrets that they are both hiding?

To be honest, I really didn’t like Cy. He was arrogant, selfish and full of himself; a total spoiled brat. Thankfully he changed throughout the book where by the end, I was on team Cy, cheering him on. It was a fun read and I’m interested to see what happens in part two.

This book blew me away! Jamie A. Waters is an amazing storyteller. Her writing style reminds me of Sarah J. Maas in the way she pulls you into her world with captivating characters and a complex storyline. I fell in love with not only the main characters but the secondary ones as well. I’ve always loved strong female leads and Sabine is one kick ass lethal heroine.

She’s been on the run for the last ten years, hiding amongst humans. With two demons and a witch by her side to protect her she should be okay but the Wild Hunt never gives up. Sabine can’t help but be intrigued when a smuggler shows up with his own secrets to hide. She extremely attracted and his power is pulling her in but can Sabine trust him?

This is a riveting paranormal romance filled with action and intrigue that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I know this is a series that I’ll love and can’t wait to read the next part.

This is the third book in the series. Each book focuses on a particular horseman so technically you can read it as a stand-alone but I wouldn’t recommend it. There is an underlying story line throughout the series so reading it from the beginning is a good idea. This story centers around Uriel. Their sole purpose of existence is to guard the gates of Hell and someone wants it open. While Uriel is hunting down demons, he comes across a damsel in distress and thinking himself a cowboy, comes to her aid. I think it’s hilarious that an archangel walks and talks like a cowboy. Saving her leads to adventure, danger and love.

Though it’s a quick read, a lot happens on these pages. The plot unfolds a little more, making you realize that there is more going on than you originally believed. Looking forward to reading the next in the series.

After the cliffhanger left me dangling in part one, I couldn’t wait to read this one. This book does not disappoint! It picks up exactly where the last one finishes and takes you on a roller coaster ride filled with danger, intrigue and so much passion, it will leave you breathless. This is not a stand-alone, go back and read the first part. This series is well worth it!

Exos is taken and Claire feels the loss. It is like a piece of her is missing. Titas tried to help but she needs so much more. Cyrus enters the picture and although he’s an arrogant jerk most of the time, I love him! He’s exactly what Claire needs. He becomes her rock of support and like a tsunami, threatens to destroy anyone who tries to harm her.

More characters were introduced in this novel. Each unique and complex within themselves. I loved each and every one of them for different reasons. Her chosen mates add their individual strengths to her, giving her exactly what she needs. Claire has a lot on her plate in this book. Trying to locate Exos, tentatively getting to know her other mates better and trying to stay alive. Someone is out to get her and they need to figure out who it is before it’s too late.

The development and the growth of the characters was amazing. So much happens in this novel, it will blow you away. I loved this book even more than the first. This series keeps getting better and better. I can’t wait to read part three.

Evil Sushi (Evil Sushi Series Book 1) by C.A King

I have read many novels by C.A King and loved them all. This book was weird but in a good way. The concept was so original, I loved it. The story takes place some time in the future. Humans saved the animals and the climate but destroyed the ecosystem under our oceans. By not eating meat, people overfished to compensate and now there are barely any fish left. In a small town on the Eastern Coast, two fishermen trudge out to sea in hopes of catching something to at least feed their family. What happens next will definitely take you by surprise. Excitement soon turns to trepidation and eventually leads to horror. With everything happening in the world today, can this be a possibility in our world? Although the book is fictional, it does make you think. Looking forward to seeing what happens in part two.

This is the final book in the Jewel Chronicles. I suggest that you read the other two books so that you understand what is going on in this one. After a couple of years respite, Milenda and Jaali must return to Natale. Although it will be dangerous, they must free and save the people from the tyranny of the elders. With the support of the gods, they start a revolution to make life better for their people. Milenda is the jewel of the nation and must make a better and safer future for her daughter. Battling racism and slavery they set out on the dangerous path to freedom.

This was an exciting end to a fantastic series. It is filled with complex and amazing characters fighting against a system that has been in place for decades. Filled with strength, determination and lots of action, this book will hold your attention until the very end.

I have read many books by Lexi C. Foss and loved them all. After reading this book, I know this will be another series that I will adore. I fell in love with these characters: Titas ( the scorchingly hot Fire Fae), Exos (the arrogantly all powerful Spirit Fae) and Claire ( the beautiful and fated). This reverse harem starts out as a small ember that quickly ignites to an all consuming blaze. You will definitely need a cold shower after some of these steamy scenes.

Although the chemistry between the characters is palpable and the sex scenes exciting, there is more to this book. Claire’s powers awaken on her twenty first birthday and Exos whisks her away to the Fae Realm to be her mentor. With her not knowing that she is half fae and her powers out of control, Claire is too dangerous to remain in the human realm. Unfortunately, most of the Fae want her dead. Claire must accept who she is, learn to control her powers and find out who is framing her for causing chaos before she gets killed.

This story had a nice twist having the fae represent the different elements instead of the usual light or dark fae. The book had me enthralled until the end. Omg, what an ending! I’m left hanging, waiting with bated breath for the next book!

Ice Crown (The Elements of Kamdaria Book 1) by Kay L. Moody
4 Stars

Ms. Moody has woven a fascinating tale about a world of shapers. People who can shape the elements; earth, water, fire and air. Most shapers can manipulate one, maybe two elements. Talise, from a very young age, can manipulate all four. Being from the Storm, it’s unheard of. There are three distinct societies, the Crown ( which includes the Emperor and the very rich), the Gate ( which includes mainstream society), and the Storm ( which includes lawbreakers and miscreants).

When you break the law, it is your children that are sent to the Storm so technically they are not lawbreakers. The Storm is a harsh wasteland where you barely survive thus resulting in you becoming a thief or murderer. It’s a catch 22. The only way out of the Storm is to become a Master Shaper and that’s what Talise plans on doing. After ten long years of training, Talise is sure she will win the competition until Aiden comes along. He is just as good as she is. A life saving position that was within her grasp may now be out of reach.

I enjoyed the story and I liked the characters. I’m eager to learn more about Aiden. Will he become her biggest ally or worst enemy? There is much more to this character. I would have liked a little more interaction between the characters. All in all, it was interesting and I’m looking forward to reading the next book.

This is the first book that I have read from this author and I was truly blown away. The story is about a boy who is diagnosed with schizophrenia and his family’s struggle to deal with it, especially his mother. It is a gripping and harrowing tale of what a schizophrenic goes through. The author describes in detail the delusions, confusion and sometimes terror of what they see and feel.

Someone I love is schizophrenic so this story hit close to home. I can fully understand what Tara was going through. The feelings of helplessness and longing to help the person yet knowing there is nothing that you can do. Watching a loved one fight their own mind and struggle for sanity.

This book is extremely well written. The author really hit the nail on its head. There are constant twists and turns. Forewarning: this is not a happy story but the bare reality of an agonizing disease. I was nervous about reading this book but I’m so glad that I did.

Characters from part one make a reappearance but this is a separate story. I suggest that you read part one because it’s excellent as well.

This story revolves around Spencer Knox. After managing to get out from the Underworld, he decides to start over in a small town in the middle of nowhere where he meets the woman of his dreams. There are too many reasons why he shouldn’t get involved yet when a friend shows up in town, they end up having a threesome.

This was a good continuation and finale to the series. This book picks up where Sanctuary finishes. You need to read the first two before so you can fully comprehend the story. Lorelei and the gang are getting comfortable with their new life at Sanctuary when they discover a threat to all shifters. Though some want to stay safe, they decide it’s too important a threat to ignore. They set off on an adventure to try to save the world. With danger lurking around every corner, can they all survive to live another day?

Once again I enjoyed the banter between the characters. Their relationships grew and evolved with highs and lows. Love was gained and love was lost. The book was filled with action and the danger added a thrill to the story. I think this is a fitting end to the series.

This is book two in the Captivity series. I suggest that you read book one first so that you can understand the dynamics between the characters and the full story. Lorelei and the rest of the MCU are struggling to find their way to Sanctuary. Aiden’s life is waning and Lorelei’s pregnancy is advancing at an alarming rate. They keep running into obstacles and they are being hunted by her fellow sirens in the PLA. Racing against time, every mistake could mean certain death.

I really loved the evolution of the characters in this installment. Not only did they grow internally but as a family as well. Aiden’s near death experiences and Lorelei’s pregnancy hormones certainly added drama to the story. This is a great continuation to the story that will leave you hanging at the end. What a cliffhanger! I’m looking forward to finding out what happens in part three.

Although this is book four in the series, each one can be read as a stand-alone. This story has to be my favourite. Milo and Juni are like oil and water. Their interactions were quite comical and had me laughing out loud. Their first encounter is definitely one that I won’t forget, it was too funny. Milo is a very straight laced person. He is an extremely black and white, follow the rules type A personality. Where as Juni is much more free flowing, laid back, bend the rules when need be type of person. Together they can bring balance to each other’s lives but getting there was hilarious.

There were a few minor appearances from older characters which helped bind the book to the series. Ms Jameson has a way of writing that’s engaging and endears you to the characters. You get invested in their story and are cheering them on throughout the book. This was an awesome addition to the Jaded Lily series. I’m looking forward to reading more.

This was an intriguing story with an original twist to it. It is set in a time where supernaturals are kept as pets in gilded cages. Aiden manages to escape and flies away. He was kept in his phoenix form for so long that when he changes into his human form, he is confused. The Magical Creature Underground brings him in and tries to help him. Lorelei works for the Phoenix Location Agency. She was hired to find Aiden and return him to his master. She manages to enter the Magical Creature Underground’s compound and realizes that Aiden is her lost love. When a phoenix rises again, they have no memory of their former lives. Aiden doesn’t remember Lorelei. Will she finish her job and return Aiden or can they rekindle the love they once had?

Interesting alliances are formed with surprising plot twists. Captivity will pull you in from the start and keep you wondering what will happen next. This definitely falls into the YA Fantasy category. I’m giving the book four stars because the idea behind the story was original. The author has a way of writing in such detail that the book nearly comes alive. It feels as though you are there experiencing her world. The characters went on an adventure filled with action, betrayal and revenge.

The story had a lot of information to tell from the beginning to the present. I believe this story would have made an excellent three book epic adventure. The first explaining the beginning, the second being Caexia’s story and the third when the curse came to fruition. It would have given readers a chance to connect with the characters and care about them. I found the first half of the book to be heavy and tedious with the information but then the second half picks up with more action. It’s a story filled with a web of lies that keeps you wondering what will happen next.

I truly love this author. I have read several of her novels and have never been disappointed. This is another beautifully written story. It is based on Orion and the Pleiades sisters. I’ve always loved greek mythology and I enjoy when authors incorporate it into their stories.

Meriah is actually one of the Pleiades sisters, Merope. She has been stuck in a loop of constantly being reincarnated to watch her sisters die by Orion’s hands. In each lifetime, she has tried to stop their deaths to no avail. She decides that this lifetime will be different. If she gets rid of Orion then he can’t harm her sisters. Realizing she can’t kill someone in cold blood, Meriah has to come up with plan b.

Alejandro, who is very good looking, has no clue when it comes to women. He is Aiko’s first case in forty years. She was exiled because she caused the worst tragedies in human history. I loved every single one of them. A.M Myers has become one of my favourite authors. I love her style of writing. She knows how to pull you in and keep you hooked until the very end. Her characters are lovable and relatable. This book is no different.

Juliette was in a serious accident that took the life of her father and her memory of the last five years. Imagine waking up and not even recognizing your fiancé! As much as she tried, she felt too alone. Juliette decided to go back to the Bayou; back to a place she could remember that she called home. Her friend sent Sawyer to pick her up and the connection is instant.

He also knows that she’s hiding something. After a few attempts on her life, Juliette is forced to come clean. To put it lightly, Sawyer was not impressed.

This short novella consists of two short stories. The first story is quite confusing and I didn’t know what was going on. The story ends and everything makes sense. It is quite gruesome and macabre. When I got to the end, I realized I loved the story. It was really well written.

The second story I feel should have been a full book. You get a glimpse into the mind of a psycho. The author gives enough info to have you care about the characters but then ends the story. It left me with so many questions. I would have liked to know what happened after.
