This was the first book that I have read from this author. I really enjoyed this story. It was well written with memorable characters. Tracker is the bad boy alpha male with a heart of gold and Kerri is a strong female lead who brought all kinds of sass. I liked the secondary characters as well especially Violet. She definitely put a smile on my face. I hope that we see her more often throughout the series.

Though I think the author should have built some of the characters more ie: King, I feel she did a good enough job because the book is short. The story was fast paced and filled with romance, danger and suspense. I will definitely be looking to read the rest of the series.

With every book that I read in this series, I love it even more. Dahlia grows and evolves within each book. Her powers are growing although her self confidence is still lacking at times. This is one of the things that I love about her. She’s a deadly killer but she has a conscience. She wants to do the right thing and tries her best to protect the underdog.

There is one giant mess after another leading to a disaster of a crime scene. Body parts are spewing up from the sewers and Dahlia has no clue who’s behind it. Most of the body parts aren’t human. How is she supposed to cover up this mess? Everyday gets harder to lie to Creed because he sees through her bull. Dahlia’s getting tired of lying but needs to protect her friends.

There are many twists and turns which will keep you on the edge of your seat. The author throws in a few surprises as well. With certain information leaking out and some reappearances of people from Dahlia’s past, this book is definitely exciting. The author ends the book leaving you freaking out. I can’t wait for the next installment in the series.

The lawyers are at it again. This time they are trying to bring down a cult called God’s Delight. They are targeting college students and several have gone missing including the President’s goddaughter. They narrow down the location of the compound in Bolivia and Café decides to send in Dianna and Anders on recon. What should have been an easy info gathering trip ends up in disaster. Chaos ensues and lives are in danger.

The book shows how a cult will systematically break down your defenses and slowly brain wash you. It really is scary. I’ve read the whole series thus far and this book is my favorite so far.

The thing I love about this series is that the books are fun to read including this one. I was a little surprised that Robin Landon got her own book. Her character wasn’t well liked in the previous books. As a demon’s minion, what is there to like? She’s on the wrong team. In this story, you realize that there is more to Robin. She’s a person with feelings who finally grows a backbone and refuses the order to kill Jackson McKee. Obviously the demon is not happy and puts a hit on Robin as well. Trying to keep herself and Jackson alive, Robin swallows her pride and asks Catherine for help.

What follows is another fantastic story filled with mystery, mayhem and romance. Can the girls keep them alive? Will they find the hitman? Will Robin have her happy ending? You have to read to find out.

Dracones Guardian (Dracones Book 6) by Sheri-Lynn Marean
4 Stars

This is book six in the Dracones Series. I suggest that you read the others prior to reading this book. I hadn’t and I was confused quite often. It would have been good to know the history behind the characters. Characters appeared in this novel which seemed like I should have known but didn’t and not much explaining as to who they were therefore I wished I had read the rest of the series.

That being said, the story turned out to be good, once the confusion of the beginning ended. At the start of the book, we learn Zander’s history and the reasons why he left heaven. The story then skips thousands of years where we meet Chloe and learn of the attraction between her and Zander. Without any warning, the story skips ahead seven years later and chaos ensues. Chloe has a daughter and Zander was rescued from a kidnapping and there is a pack of werewolves living in his house. For me, the story actually starts here. From this point on, the book is quite entertaining and I liked it a lot. I loved Zander’s character. He was caring, loyal and a protector. He was also strong, loving and passionate. I liked Chloe’s character as well and thought they were a good match. I liked many of the secondary characters as well, my favourite being Genna. I think she deserves her own book, there are many layers to this character.

Aside from the confusion in the beginning, I really enjoyed the book. It was filled with romance, mystery and danger along with angels, demons and dragons. It had many unique characters who added to the story.

Trickster’s Hunt (Three Tricksters Book 1) by Carrie Whitethorne

This is a story about an average girl named Maia who finds out that she’s not so average. She often gets gut reactions to people never realizing that these reactions are saving her life. After going to London for a competition, she meets three Djinn who swear to protect her. It seems crazy but after an attempt on her life, she has no choice to believe.

This book is a mixture of fantasy, Egyptian mythology and reverse harem. Although it’s not full blown reverse harem, I think the series will eventually end up there. Maia is highly attracted to all three Djinn. Who wouldn’t be, they are gorgeous. I had never read a book about Djinn and that’s what made me pick up the book in the first place. I enjoyed the addition of Egyptian mythology. Usually you find books about the Greeks so this was a refreshing change. I had never heard of the god that made an appearance in this book and I admit that I had to google him. Usually authors include the popular gods in their stories. It was good that Ms. Whitethorne included a lesser known deity because I learned something by reading her book.

In the beginning I was a little confused between each Djinn as they were talking but it improved as the book progressed. I also think the lead up was a little long seeing as the threat to Maia only appeared towards the end of the book. Seeing as this is book one in the series, I feel I have to warn you that it ends in a cliffhanger. I’m still giving this book four stars because the story was unique and interesting to read. I believe this series has potential to be really good. I’m looking forward to reading part two.

I don’t usually read books with a male main character. I much prefer the strong female leads. I was pleasantly surprised with this novel. It was really fun to read. It is a light hearted fantasy story involving fairies, magic and adventure. It has action, humour and suspense. There was romance as well but seeing as the characters are mainly teenagers, it was filled with raging hormones and adolescent angst.

Zach finds out his mother is a fairy godmother and kind of freaks out when he realizes he’s a fairy as well. With his mother injured, he will need to finish her assignments before the full moon or they are both grounded. The next week of his life is thrown into total chaos with Zach continuously breaking the rules, getting drugged and fighting for his life. Who knew being a fairy godmother was so dangerous?

I ended up really liking Zach. He was an awkward sixteen year old who would constantly fumble around the girl he liked. He was caring and stood up for what he believed in. I enjoyed watching his confidence build by the end of the novel. The characters are great and likeable and the story is well written. This is a fantastic YA fantasy book. I’m looking forward to reading part two in the series.

Drawing Bloodlines (The Princeton Allegiant Series Book 1) by Deborah Garland
4 Stars

This is the first book that I have read from this author. I love vampire novels and Ms. Garland put some interesting twists in this story. Her vampires have some unique traits that I appreciated.

Elizabeth is a teacher trying to adjust to being a single mother. While at the doctor’s having a blood test done, she catches the doctor drinking her blood from a vial. Alexander is overwhelmed with the scent of her blood and drinks it. When he realizes that she saw him, he stalks her fully intending to wipe the incident from her mind.

The attraction between them is too strong and they enter into a relationship. It’s doomed from the start for vampires are not allowed to mate with humans. When a Commander chooses him to be her mate, Alexander desperately searches for a way out. He refuses to be stuck with someone he hates for all eternity. This leads to some interesting situations and an ending that you never see coming. What an ending! The author leaves enough open to be able to continue the series. I’m hoping the next book is about Loren and Julianna.

This is Manny’s story, a playboy boss of club Pulse. At the beginning of the book, we see a scared little boy not understanding his mother’s death. This event changed the course of his life. From then on out, it is one disaster after another with Manny fighting to survive. After all the life and death situations he has been in, he should be dead but he somehow survived. The story is written with continual flashbacks to his younger days but these are crucial to understanding the story and how all the characters are connected.

From a young age he fell into a life that should have killed him yet he managed to get out. But do you ever really get out? Somehow he always got caught up in a mess. I felt bad that Manny could never catch a break. There has been only one light in his life and even their relationship was tumultuous. There is a saying, “Anything worth having is worth fighting for”. Manny fought long and hard his whole life but is it too late to put the pieces back together?

This story is filled with so many twists and turns it will have your head spinning. This is another fantastic book in the Twisted Hearts series. Autumn Sand is an amazing author who can write riveting stories that will leave you breathless.

This is another cute book in this series. The story is about Mia who is a movie producer and also a nixie. The main actor in her latest film gets killed live on a Facebook video and it’s up to her and her friends to find the killer. It will be hard to explain to the police when they don’t know that the supernatural exists. She teams up with a reporter but can she solve the crime without revealing who she really is?

It’s a short novel but packed with mystery, murder and romance. Sparks are literally flying between Mia and her love interest. We get to see some reappearances from some characters which is always nice. It was well written with likeable characters. I think this is another winning novel by Heather Silvio.

This is the third book in the Wheel of Crowns series. I love this series! The men are hot and the female leads are strong. This is Tandi’s story and she’s hilarious. Recently turned into a vampire, Tandi struggles somewhat when she realizes that she sucks at it ( pun intended). She can’t bring herself to kill Bambi or Thumper. Oh my god, those scenes will have you crying from laughter. The only perk is that her master who is the Prince of Vampires is hotter than hell. The attraction grows between the two but unfortunately the Queen wants her Prince backhand has no qualms in killing Tandi to get what she wants.

This is another story filled with action, drama and quirky characters. Tracker the cat and Tandi’s southern attitude will have you laughing out loud. There are some surprises in this book as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope there will be more to come. Perhaps a book about Death and the Zombie Princess?

This is part of the Hot Hunks Steamy Romance Collection. Each book can be read as a stand-alone. This is the love story between Rand and Ciara. The story takes place in Bali where two old friends cross paths again. They met 15 years prior, each going their separate ways to make a career in the military. Meeting again in Bali, the spark that started when they were young, ignited into an inferno. There is a side story with Rand trying to catch some terrorists which added some suspense to the story and the hurricane which added some danger.

Though it is a short novel, it is well written and interesting. It grabbed my attention fairly quickly and kept it throughout the end with the suspense. It is an intriguing yet sweet romance.

This is another exciting book in the Wheel of Crowns series. This story revolves around Charlie and her powers. Charlie’s parents died in an accident and it was her brother who took on the responsibility of raising her. Knowing it was hard on her brother, Charlie didn’t want to burden him when her powers started manifesting. She doesn’t believe in the supernatural so she just thought there was something wrong with her.

Two hot guys show up in town. One wanting to help her and one needing her help. She decides to trust her gut and drag her best friend Tandi along for the ride. With evil warlocks and the Prince of Hell after her, Charlie will need to learn how to use her powers fast.

There is so much action in this book that I couldn’t put it down. The romance between Charlie and her soulmate was nice. There was an immediate attraction but with the slow buildup leading to them being together added another layer to the story. Charlie is one powerful witch because when she learned to control her powers, she kicked ass. She is a strong female lead which I love. Her time in Hell proves it yet again. I enjoyed the reappearance of certain characters from the first book. There were some surprises that the author threw in that will shock you. I loved this book and can’t wait to read book three about Tandi.

Charlotte grew up in a life of privilege. The only female in a family of four children to very rich parents. Whatever she wanted, she got. Thankfully her attitude isn’t a spoiled brat. Deep down, she knows she’s submissive and decided to visit a BDSM club while in Washington DC. A faceless dominant walked out in her leaving her humiliated. One year later, still trying to get over the encounter, she meets with a potential client who wants her to prepare the opening night of his new club. As fate would have it, this client happens to be the same dominant from Washington.

Arrogant, cruel and cold are words to describe Hawke. He needs to be to protect himself. He had a horrendous childhood and became a Dom to help him cope. He was drawn to Charlotte in DC and still is. She’s beautiful, vivacious and innocent. He’s obsessed with her but knows he’ll break her therefore he needs to push her away to protect her. No matter how much Hawke fights, the two are fated. Danger is lurking in Denver and has targeted Charlotte. Can the two survive Hawke’s past and the evil of the present?

There are scenes in this book that are graphic and may be a trigger for some people. This book is not for everyone. No child should have to endure what Hawke did. My heart broke for him. It fully explains why he is the way he is. This was an intense, dark story.

This is a story based on true events. It shows how one decision can change the course of your life. Helen and Ernest were newlyweds that had recently become parents. On the way home from the hospital, during a storm, they had an accident. All the occupants of the car were severely injured, except baby Judy. Everyone called Judy, the miracle baby.

Accidents cause not only physical damage but emotional and psychological damage as well. Helen was the most severely injured and her psychological scars ran deep. Judy’s life started out perfect, growing up with two loving parents but Helen’s broken pieces never quite mended. This took a toll on her marriage and eventually it crumbled. Judy’s life spiralled down from that point on but luckily she never lacked love. She was forced to grow up fast because of her circumstances. My heart hurt for that little girl.

This is the first book that I have read from this author and I loved it. There were vampires, witches, demons and werewolves. There were mind-readers, healers and psychics. There were hot sexy men and a kick ass female lead, what’s not to love?

Sadie grew up in a town full of witches. Everyone had powers except her. On her 18 th birthday, everything changed. She came into her powers and all of a sudden, demons are trying to kill her. She always wanted powers, now every supernatural wants her dead because of them. Flirting with the Vampire Prince and lusting after the Werewolf King and trying not to get killed by his psycho witch fiancée and the Demon King, Sadie is quite busy. All the while she needs to find some lost keys and save the world. Not too much to ask of a girl who’s trying to graduate high school, right? She makes some new friends and heads on a crazy adventure.

This is an original, action packed story filled with amazing characters, unlikely allies and a bit of romance. Some of their antics had me laughing out loud. I loved this book and can’t wait to read more about their adventures.

This is a story about four best friends (Avery, Parker, DeShawn and Ethan) who all happen to have psychic powers. All are products of a fertility drug given to their mothers. Each developed different abilities, all of which are very cool. This book is from Parker’s point of view, she is an empath.

She’s popular and has won the pageant twice and is head of the dance committee. To everyone else, she has it all but being in eighth grade and feeling everyone’s emotions is hard. Teens are constantly on an emotional roller coaster and she rides along with them. So she figured out “shortcuts” to make everyone around her happy. If they are happy, she’s happy. Only the people closest to her know the pain that she carries.

When a new girl arrives at school, Parker feels so much pain within her. She decides to use all her shortcuts to help her. Unfortunately for Parker, her abilities start to go haywire and serious problems arise.

This is the perfect novel for young readers to show them that there are no shortcuts in life. It will show them that the times of sorrow and grief are experiences for them to grow and learn; to be able to be stronger. I really enjoyed this book and hope there will be more. Perhaps give each friend a story of their own.

Another murder needs to be solved in Las Vegas. This time vampire Evie Jones steps up to the plate. Life gets boring when you are immortal so Evie keeps it exciting by being an actress. She meets another actor at a workshop named Ryan, who’s friend is accused of murder. Is the search for the truth or her attraction to Ryan motivating Evie to help him? Things get complicated when her ex-husband is implicated as well. Can they solve the murder? Will Ryan stick around after he finds out that she’s a vampire?

This is a cute romance fraught with suspense and danger. Though this is book two, it can be read as a stand-alone. I’m really enjoying this series and so will you. I’m looking forward to book three.

Surviving Valencia by Holly Tierney-Bedord

This is a story about a girl who lives in the shadow of her sister, struggling to find her self worth and become someone. Growing up in a household with her older siblings Van and Valencia was hard. The twins were practically perfect. Van the jock and Valencia the cheerleader. Both were vivacious, friendly and popular. She was the complete opposite. She was bland, introverted and had no friends. Her parents practically ignored her. She was invisible. Valencia was the only one who saw her. She was twelve when they died. Her life was forever changed. Somehow seemingly impossibly, it got worse. Her parents took their anguish out on her. They yelled at her, grounded her or ignored her. All she ever wanted was to fit in and be accepted.

The book is written from the first person point of view which allows us to fully understand what she is feeling. Never once throughout the book do we learn her name. I think the author was smart in doing this. It adds to the main character’s unremarkability. Her whole life is dedicated to living vicariously through others and not making waves. It is a sad story of a depressed woman living in the past and struggling to deal with specifically the loss of her sister.

This book was cleverly written with many twists and surprises that you never see coming. This is definitely not a joyous story with a happily ever after ending. It is a book with much deeper meanings, showing how death affects everyone differently. The author shows how one event can change your life drastically. It was a gripping tale of self discovery.

They introduce her to a ghostologist and a scientist. Another hilarious adventure takes place as she plans a surprise for her husband’s birthday.

I have to admit there were moments that pulled at my heart strings as she watched the children that she left behind but there is always lots of laughs as Dee and the girls get themselves into entertaining and spicy situations. If you’re looking for a fun quick read then this is the book for you.

This was a fun book to read. Not only is the entertainment business crazy but throw in some supernatural beings and things get out of hand. Catherine Rodham moves to Las Vegas to open the West Coast branch of the Peterson Talent Agency. Unbeknownst to her, the town is full of supernatural creatures. She also fits the profile of the victims of a serial killer that’s running around. Catherine has her hands full opening her business, dealing with bizarre characters and trying to stay alive.

I enjoyed the aspect of lesser known creatures being in the story. Not the usual vampire/werewolf, though I’m sure they will show up later. With some romance, intrigue and action, this becomes an entertaining read. The concept of a talent agency hiring supernatural beings is original and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

I fell in love with Matt and Mikaela’s story in Love on a Limb. I was a little apprehensive when I heard there would be a part two. This book surpassed my expectations. Matt originally married Mikaela for convenience. She was to be his voice while he died of cancer. Unexpectedly falling in love with each other, Mikaela gave him something to fight for. This book is about his fight to stay alive and that you must believe in miracles, especially during the darkest days.

“Don’t let your happiness depend on the amount of time you have but on the quality of the love you give.”

This was a hard lesson for Matt to learn. He kept reliving his past mistakes and regretting a future that he would never see. He was missing everything in his present. Once he accepted his present, his fight became easier mentally. Everything is mind over matter. You need to have a good outlook if you want to survive.

“I can’t explain it, but I am content …… I just want to live in this moment. To be fully present every second I have.”

“I’d say the ability to love life in the present is true happiness, Mr.Grayken”

The author didn’t sugarcoat anything in this book. She showed the reality of what someone goes through from the treatments to infections and setbacks, the feelings of guilt, despair and hopelessness to the victory of walking across the room unaided. For someone like me, who has luckily never experienced this, it showed me the harsh reality. My heart breaks for anyone going through this. There were several times that I had to stop reading because I couldn’t stop crying.

I truly believe that if you stand by each other, especially in bad times, and when love is on the line that you choose each other; then everything will work out fine. Thank you Ms. Lewis for sharing Matt and Mikaela’s ups and downs. It is truly an exceptional story which shows what love and faith can get you through.

Seraphina’s Revolution (The Seraphina Series Book 4) by Sheena Hutchinson

Wow! What an ending to an amazing series! Seraphina has been to hell and back, quite literally. Seraphina has grown throughout this series and her powers along with her. Her powers in this book are incredible but her remorse and guilt are debilitating her. She is having a hard time coming to terms with everything she did while being evil. This lent to me being extremely frustrated with her “woe is me” attitude. As smart as she is, Seraphina continued to make stupid decisions i.e. trusting Jack. Yes Jack is back, he is like a parasite that you can’t get rid of. I got angry at her for believing him.

Once Seraphina opened her eyes, the book took off. There was so much action, I was on the edge of my seat. The epic battle at the end had me holding my breath. It was so sad, my heart broke. I loved the introduction of the new characters. I enjoyed the witty banter and interaction they had amongst each other. The dynamic of the book changed. I’ll stop there so I don’t ruin anything.

The author has an incredible way of weaving a story that will have you riding your emotions. Once you start, you will not be able to put the book down. I fell in love with these characters and their story. Thank you Ms. Hutchinson for this phenomenal series.

The Chosen: Book One: The Orb Quest Series by Cari Schaeffer

Fate and destiny. Some say you make your own, others say it was written in the stars from before you were born. These four friends share unique physical characteristics which mark them as “ The Chosen”. They are destined to save the world. Everything they learned in history class is wrong. In a race against time, they need to relearn world history, manage their new powers and find some magical orbs, all while being hunted. Not too much to ask from teenagers, right?

As this is the first book in the Orb Quest series, the ending is open. Although it isn’t a cliffhanger, nothing is resolved. This book represents the start of their journey, the discovery of their powers and what they are capable of. Overall, I enjoyed the book. I did find parts to be a little slow but I understand everything needs to be explained, the author is setting a base for the rest of the series. There was enough action thrown in to keep it exciting. I think their powers are awesome. The characters are likeable and have a good rapport between each other. I have a feeling there is an attraction between Gemma and John and I don’t trust Tyler at all. There is something fishy about him. I’m curious to see what happens next so I’m looking forward to the next book.

This is a fun, short read. Bonnie suddenly dies and leaves her husband of forty plus years alone. Her best friend Dee meets her and whisks her away to the Green Room. It is like a sexy purgatory. Bonnie realizes that she left her sex toys from the likes of lovegasm and more out before she died. In a panic, she pleads with Dee that she needs to contact Peter to tell him to put them away before their children find them. Comical shenanigans ensue that will have you laughing out loud. There is a lot of peace and love and sex. The Green Room sounds like a place I’d like to go to after I die.

Oh my god! What a fantastic finale to an amazing series! My emotions went on a wild roller coaster ride. From being happy to stressed, elated to shocked then towards the end, sobbing my heart out. Amelia has been through so many ups and downs in this series.

This book picks up at the scene of Robins accident. It was so well written that I literally felt the terror that Amelia experienced. Hawk is getting desperate in this novel and really kicks it up a notch. He puts Amelia through hell. Poor Lia experiences the full spectrum of emotions from love to hate, loss to anger and self preservation. Lia has always considered herself weak but this story proves how strong she really is.

This book was packed with so much action and twists and turns keeping you in the edge of your seat. It was so exciting that I couldn’t read fast enough. It truly is a phenomenal book!

Immortal Desires Anthology – Review by Anna Hirsch

Immortal DesiresImmortal Desires by Melanie James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Immortal Desires by various authors
4 Stars

This is a box set by several different authors all writing paranormal stories. There are stories for everyone whether they love vampires, dragons, shifters or ghosts. All the men are hot, hot and hot! The stories are sexy and thrilling.

Conjuring Darkness by Melanie James

This story is about witches, sacrifices and demons from before biblical times. Kate is an archaeologist stuck in the desert and sends for her sister Lexi to bring her a coin from her house. What ensues is an adventure filled with love, danger and death. With twists and turns, you’ll be wondering what happens next.

For Haven’s Sake by Nicole Garcia

I loved this short novella! This is a romance between Haven and Jax. Haven runs an animal sanctuary whose life changes for the better when Jax ( a werewolf) asks for a job. There is the added suspense and danger with someone chasing Jax. I fell in love with these two characters and would be thrilled to read more about them.

His Dream Mate by Madison Sevier

This story is also about wolf shifters. Nova has the added power of being able to dream walk. Every night she feels the pull and enters someone’s dreams. She has done things that she is not proud of and now she is in danger. It’s up to Jax to protect her even if it’s from herself. Can she learn to trust him again after all his past transgressions?

I feel this anthology is well worth the time you’ll spend reading it. These are well written stories from very talented authors. Each one is unique and attention grabbing. I highly recommend this box set.
