While this book was on the shorter side it was very descriptive, full of fantasy, an amazing plot line and wonderful characters. When I first picked up this book it was due to the beautiful front cover. While it took me a little while to get into the story due to the traditional writing, once I got into the story I couldn’t put it down and by the end I wanted more. While the descriptions were great there were some times that I thought the descriptions were a little long. However that being said it is a great prequel and I look forward to reading the next.

Marriage of convenience is one of my favorite tropes. This book hit the mark for everything needed. Humor, drama, love, angst, and the almighty when it’s right it’s right. Abi was a great down to earth girl and you can’t help but love her. Finn was the actor and bad boy who needed a touch up to his image. Together they both have things they need within the other and although random it’s a story where love is born.

Book 1 in the series and and a very enjoyable read. Ms. Chilson told a story of passion and courage and of course the wonders of magic. I loved Jessa and felt she was very relatable. Her love for nature and her dedication to her family and town was clear. So many elements to this story and I am eager for book 2.

This is the first book I’ve read by Sara Chislon. I absolutely love reading about Fae so I had to give this one a try and I was not disappointed. While it is about Fae, it is also a mystery. Jessa hears plants and flowers whisper to her, but she must block it out because being fae-touched can get her taken away. Her aunt gets a letter that seems to upset her and she needs to travel to her friend who lives near a crossing. Jessa talks her into taking her along. Can she control the whispers and help her aunt’s friend, or will she lose control and expose being fae-touched? If you enjoy books about fae and mysteries, definitely pick this one up! I can’t wait to read more about Jessa.

Whispers in the Waters is the prequel to the series Blood of the Fae. This is a Fantasy/Fae that I enjoyed reading and look forward to reading this series. This is a new author to me and I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from her. Her style of writing and her attention to detail along with fully developed characters that are relatable and fun make for a wonderful story. I had a hard time following at times but I think its because there’s a lot going on . Jessa has abilities that she keeps hidden because she fears what might happen if they were to be revealed. Get ready to be taken on quite the ride as we follow along with Jessa. I recommend reading this short story to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

While this book started off somewhat slow it did pick up and managed to capture my interest. The characters are well developed and mostly likable. The storyline has some twists, turns, mystery, and fantasy. For a prequel I found this a great beginning and look forward to reading the next. While this author is new to me I very much enjoyed her writing style. If you like fantasy and Fae novels this series is for you.

This Novella gave me a taste of Jessas’ world that makes me want more! For the book being so short I found the detail and mystery that Jessa solves to be engaging. Jessa is relatable in her instinct to protect her family and others around her. I loved the touch of magic added. With the fae-touched, I found it similar to how ladies were prosecuted back in the day for being mentally insane. I can’t wait to read the first book in the series Tattoo of Crimson (Blood of the Fae series).

This was my first book by this author and it did not disappoint! I wasn’t completely sure what to expect, but I found a delightful story filled with fantasy mixed in with mystery. The author did a great job of creating a magical world where fantasy creatures blend in with the real world that rejects them and anyone touched by the Fae. We meet Jessa, a young lady, who is well bred, but has always wanted to walk a different path from her much loved older twin sisters. When her Aunt Caris, who lives with them, is summoned to a faraway town, near the OtherWorld, Jessa jumps at the chance to go with her. Soon after arriving, they find several mysteries, and despite multiple warnings, Jessa can’t help but start investigating, along with her cat, Jade. The author did a wonderful job of providing vivid descriptions in the story, as well as well round characters. This shorter story was a prequel to the series and was a great starting off point. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

Jessa has been raised within a proper family and has been taught that it is unacceptable to be different. She has been told that proper etiquette is to act timid and always remain ladylike. To silence the whispers that only she can hear Jessa turns to her drawings. As an herbalist she already knows that she is different from her two older sisters who are proper ladies.
When Jessa’s aunt receives a letter from an old friend of hers in another town who needs her help Jessa offers to accompany her aunt. Jessa’s aunt’s friend owns a mill near an Otherworldy Crossing where there is the presence of fae. Someone or something has been sabotaging the mill and it is up to Jessa to figure out who is responsible. To do so she must embrace that part of herself that she has kept hidden and risk being taken away by the vigil.
This book was refreshing, light and mysterious. I loved the element of magic and the special abilities that Jessa had but was forced to keep so well hidden. The character of Jessa was well written and showed the restraints that were placed on women in that time era. As the story evolved Jessa really started to develop as a person and come into her own. A great read that was hard to put down.

This is the first book I have read by Sarah Chislon; the title and cover are what drew me in. I love all things Fae related and this book was no different. Jessa is the youngest in her family with older twin sisters Ada and Ainslie. Unlike her sisters Jessa doesn’t worry about socially acceptable things, or marriage, she is drawn to nature, to plants. It has been four years since their mother has passed, the sisters live with their father and two of their aunts. Shortly after her passing Jessa heard the whispers the first time, but her father chocked it up to stress of her mother’s passing. Now the whispers are back but stronger, the imaginary cage of thorns in her mind is getting harder to contain the whispers. One morning their Aunt Caris receives a letter, Jessa notices how she reacts and knows something is wrong. After some time, Jessa takes her aunt some lavender tea to help only to learn that her aunt plans to leave first thing in the morning for Milburn. With some convincing and permission from her father Jessa goes with her aunt on the long journey. Jessa has one main issue or fear, that others will think she is fae-touched, and the Vigil will place her in an institution as they have with so many others. Her mother loved to share stories about the Otherworld, a part of Jessa longed to be near or to at least see the world outside of her town. In Milburn there is a string of increasingly dangerous attacks, but Jessa must give into the whispers if she hopes to protect her aunt and the townspeople she has came to care for. What will happen when Jessa finally listens to the whispers? Will Jessa be able to save the town in time? Can Jessa protect herself from the Vigil? The characters the author creates is one of proper ladies, but Jessa breaks the mold, she is more Intune with nature and her studies than with finding a husband. Her world is both one based in reality but has the mystical under the surface hiding in plain sight. I couldn’t put this book down and look forward to seeing where the world goes next in the first book Tattoo of Crimson officially out now.

I’ve never read a book by this author before, and I really loved it! The world building was intriguing, I found myself interested in solving the mystery. The hidden idea was a cool concept. The writing was lovely and the characters were easy to like. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

I did enjoy this book. This author has created a vibrant world that captures the attention of the reader. The story of Jenna’s life and how she has to maneuver through her world hiding who she is proved to be interesting and I found myself vested in her and her story. This book is good and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Whispers in the Water by Sarah Chislon tells the story of gently-bred herbalist Jessa Caldwell as she goes on a journey to help her aunt. This seemingly secret journey her aunt is taking her on takes her away from home to a town near an Otherworldly Crossing, which runs the risk of having dangerous interactions with fae. Will Jessa be able to help her aunts friend and townsfolk by solving a mystery that can expose her own secret?
This slow burn was extremely well written and full of well thought out characters. Even though the book was short in length, it was full of descriptions and story building. I look forward to continuing Jessa’s story and can’t wait to see what mysteries she will be solving next.

Even at the risk of everything you love and have ever cared about? I really enjoyed the complex nature of this short fantasy about a lady’s resolve to do right by her family and the freedom that comes with this kind of genre. I feel like the author covered a lot of ground in this book and loved the fae aspect!

The is a short prequel which seems to prepare us for the later series by introducing the main character Jessa and allows us to get to know her as the story progresses. We come to know her secrets and fears and her past and leaves us speculating what will happen next. Jessa’s compassion and concerns make her a relatable character and her relationships with those around her feel real to me. I thought the world created was well-written and the combination of the more unique fae elements with the better known and ‘real’ world was captivating. I enjoyed the period setting and how the pressures of societal norms incorporated the fantasy (fae) side of things. It was clear to me that this prequel only dipped its toe into the waters of the world building and character development, and I am keen to read more about Jessa and the challenges she faces. I look forward to reading the rest of this series and can see it becoming a favourite of mine if this book is anything to go on!

I really enjoyed this fantasy mystery read! I loved the main character Jessa and reading from her point of view. She unknowingly gets swept up into a mystery unsure if she will be able to even help her Aunt Caris. As Jessa tries to learn more about her aunts friend and the mill she gets closer to unchartered territory. She has to be careful with how she proceeds as secrets are uncovered. Jessa will choose what to share and what to keep hidden if she is to be of any help at all. I am definitely looking forward to the next book to dig deeper into Jessa’s world!

Jessa, a lady in current society lives with her father sisters and Aunt. After her mothers death she begins to hear whispering and plants talk to her , a sign in her society of “the Fae touch” which will send you straight to an asylum if someone finds out. So Jessa represses these whispers and ignores them as if they aren’t there… That is until her Aunt has to travel to a border town near the Fae to deal with an old friend and Jessa will have to confront these lingering whispers head on in order to save a town and friends she comes to care a great deal about while traveling with her Aunt. Is she willing to expose what she can hear and that she may be “fae touched” in order to save others or can she find a way to save others and herself? This was a fun read Jessa is a quick thinking puzzle enthusiast. The book is also written with dialog reflecting a different time period which really captured my attention. Definitely worth a download!

Really good storyline. This is the first time for me reading something from this author. The main character is very interesting and relatable. The story started a little slow for my taste but it definitely picks up and gets pretty good. Definitely excited to immerse myself in this world again. This book is worth a read.

I didn’t realise going into this book it was a short book so was a little disappointed initially. However, that soon dissipated when I started reading. The author has managed to pack so much into this book that it really didn’t feel like anything was missing. If was an interesting storyline. I loved discovering all about this world. This is the first book in the Book Of Fae series. It was a really entertaining story and a great start to the series. I love how the author wrote the story in the same way that the people of that era would talk and how the customs and peoples perceptions of magic and things they don’t understand is portrayed along with historical references. This story has it all from danger and intrigue, to mystery and magic there is something for everyone. Jessa is a young woman who is trying her hardest to fit into the accepted role of Lady in her society. However she is far from a normal Lady. She has a secret and it is one she needs to keep locked away unless she wants to end up in an institution. When she joins her aunt on a journey to help a friend in need she gets more than she was expecting. There are secrets to uncover, a mystery to solve and someone out to cause harm to her aunt and the town she has come to care for. Can she discover this person’s identity before its too late? Can she keep her own secret intact to protect herself? And what happens when secrets she didn’t know existed start to reveal themselves.
I enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to see where the series will go next.

This is an enjoyable and engaging novella, in which Jessa Caldwell is a gently-bred herbalist, who is trying to be a lady whilst concealing her true nature. This short read is a prequel to a new series, and it sets up the storyline and characters well. I enjoyed the mystery element which kept me hooked, and the setting was brought to life by the descriptive narrative. Jessa is a great heroine and I look forward to reading about more of her adventures.

The main character, Jessa, is an herbalist who lost her mom when she was young. When her aunt goes on a trip, Jessa tags along to sketch the countryside. The characters are loveable, and the story is well written. I enjoyed reading how Jessa found herself in the process of solving the mystery. Chilson combined mystery and fantasy and fae extremely well. It left me anxious for more!

Jessa Caldwell is a young woman with a secret, she belongs to a loving family, but she is nothing like her other two sisters who are made for society and are the proper young ladies her aunt prefers and who Jessa is trying to emulate, but Jessa is more outspoken and arty in nature, she prefers to spend her time sketching and tending her plants, while learning about their herbal uses. One day her aunt receives some troubling correspondence and decides to undertake a journey because of this, Jessa is suspicious, as it is completely out of character, but her aunt will not open up to her and as her sisters are not available to go with her, so Jessa insists on accompanying her aunt on the journey, despite her protestations.
While they travel, the whispers that Jessa hears on a day to day basis become louder and more insistent, but she keeps this hidden from her aunt, as such a thing is frowned upon in society and anyone who is considered “fae-touched” is reported to the Vigilists, a group of people who lock those who can hear the fae whispers, like Jessa, locked up. This is the reason that the destination is dangerous for both Jessa and her aunt, as it is near an Otherworldly Crossing, a place where the fae are more prevalent and anyone fae-touched is more at risk of discovery. Jessa uses her coping mechanisms to ignore the whispers and when they eventually arrive at their destination, she is exhausted, as is her aunt, so they decide to stay at an inn for the evening, but there is a commotion there when they arrive and they learn about just how dangerous this town near a crossing can be.
As the days pass, a series of dangerous attacks occur around the town and Jessa has to make a decision which could change her life forever, someone is guilty of sabotage and she is the only one who can solve the mystery, but if she does, then she risks being reported to the Vigilists. Will Jessa risk everything to solve the mystery, or will all her efforts be in vain? This is a fast paces fantasy novel containing mythical elements, as well as a mystery which will hook you in and leave you wanting to know how the story ends.

This book was written by a new author to me, so I was not sure what to expect. I picked it up because I though the cover was beautiful and had a cat on it. What I found inside was a remarkable story with a phenomenal protagonist. She is such a caring individual that overcomes her fears to protect the people she loves the most. The writer did an amazing job capturing the true human essence as well as the plants, animals, and land around them. I want to be a part of this world. It was a bit wordy at times, but nothing that deterred me from the story. I found this to be a wonderful read and I hope that she will continue this story.

While this is a very quick read (it’s the prequel to the series and a novella) it was a slow start and I had a hard time staying interested. HOWEVER, once the story got going, I was hooked. I love the premise: hidden identity…forced to protect her loved ones and town which means she has to reveal her true self…it’s great. I’m excited to continue this series. I love Chislon’s character development and her world building is fantastic. This read was definitely outside of my typical genres, but I’m glad I picked it up! I definitely recommend this novella and I’m looking forward to continuing the Blood of the Fae series.

The author did a great job with the thought process of the characters and plot. I feel like the author had put way too much details in parts where it wasn’t needed. The book started out slow but it eventually picks back up. The book was a mix of fantasy and mystery all in one. It was a great read.

Jessa lives with her father, two sisters and her Aunt Carisa in Avons. After her mothers death Jessa begins to hear whispers which points to what Avons refers to as ‘The Fae Touch’ now trying to avoid being sent away her father and aunt advise her to control her emotions and thus, control the whispers.
Jessa is able to keep control for a while until she goes to the lands near the world of the Others at which the Whispers she has kept hold of she will have to open herself to in order to protect her family and the ones she loves. What will she do? And can she do it while trying to remain a lady?
This book was really good! Honestly, I knew I would love it from the synopsis. Everything about it pointed to something that would interest me and this author delivered. I loved the way Jessa’s character was developed and her heart of trying to do right by her family and be a lady but also keep them safe as well. For a shorter book it delivered with much descriptiveness and an intriguing storyline. Can’t wait to see more from this author and read more from this world.
I would give this a 4 out of 5 stars. If you like fae and fantasy, otherworldly threats this book would be perfect for you. It is written in a more traditional style and I wasn’t sure how I would enjoy that but honestly it really made the book stand out to me.

This is a prequel novella and a great start for a fae novel series. Jesse is an amazing character with secrets and hard decisions to make! I thoroughly found myself in love with the authors writing style and her ability to keep me enthralled in the story line despite the shortness of the book. This novella sets the stage for what I am certain will be an exceptional series of books! Worth reading over and over!

Jessa lives with some family, her father, aunt and her two sisters. She doesn’t really fit in and it only gets worse since she starts hearing voices. I adore fae-lore and this book was no different. Now I need to find the rest of the series.
