Doctor D’s Orderly Affair (Doctors of Eastport General #1) by C.A. King

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by the author. The author knows how to keep readers entertained. Doctor D’s Orderly Affair is the first book in a brand new series. Doctors of Eastport General is amazing so far.

Desmond is a pediatrician and his nephew’s life is on the line. The other doctors invite him out for a night out and he takes them up on their offer. He meets a woman who he doesn’t expect to fall in love with. The quote I chose for Desmond is: “After the funeral, I was lost. I took a leave of absence, spent some time wallowing, and fell into a deep depression. When I started piecing my life together again, you were already gone and I didn’t know where to. I had no idea we’d meet up like this, but I’m glad we did. It gives me a second chance to make things right. Can we start over again?”

Emily is a nurse who is finishing up school. She doesn’t have time for dating or a life outside of work and school. The nurses finally talk her into joining them and one thing leads to another. Can she forget about Doctor D? The quote I chose for Emily is: “Oops! I dropped them. I don’t usually have a problem opening the door. This is so-o-o weird.”

Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.

It was a good story that needed more time. The story spent too much time on building the relationship between co-workers and not enough on the two main characters. Once they spent time together there were some cute moments. The animal story was very funny! I did enjoy the internal musings of Dr. D. He is more than the rumors make him out to be!

Then near the end time jumps forward (not sure how long) and it isn’t stated anywhere til further in the chapter. Maybe an epilogue with saying we are now somewhere else..anyway it would have helped me not be confused and flipping pages thinking I missed something.

All that being said, it is short, sweet and nice. There are humorous and heartbreaking moments. The characters were easy to follow along. I feel this story would benefit from expanding in the second half of the book.

I have read this author numerous times before and usually love her stories, characters and worlds.

I really enjoyed the idea of this book, and me being greedy wanted more! It was a very quick read for me and I did like it i just didnt feel super connected to the characters as it was fast paced.
With a reputation around the hospital and not trying to tamp the rumor mill down Dr. D isnt what everyone thinks he is.
Emily is a sweet hospital worker going to school to reach her goal.
A chance meeting after hearing rumors and sparks fly with some oops along the way.
I just wanted more!

I’ve read many books from this author and it’s not her usual type of book. They are usually filled with supernatural adventures. This was a quick read that was steamy and funny. When Emily told Desmond that her goldfish was named Dr. D, I was crying from laughing so hard. The characters at this hospital are the type that you will want to read more about. The only thing that prevented me from giving it a five star rating is that I felt the ending was rushed but other than that, this book was great.

There are a few good words to describe this book. Hot! Steamy! Funny, the laugh out loud kind as well as Heartfelt. Oh and Steamy gets it twice as Dr. Desmond Danielson is just that HOT and STEAMY. Having said that, Dr. D is a pediatrician and one that not only do the kids like him. So do the women working around him. He is just down right loveable, and puts his patients first, before play. Emily works in the ER. She is a good hearted woman who has an attraction to the children in the ER. She is their comfort as they wait for their parents to arrive. Now for the author! This author writes and describes her characters perfectly. She set her story up on the first page and keeps you reading. While this book seems like a short story, it is just the beginning for this Series. I have read many stories from this author and have never been disappointed. Her story is well written and will leave you wanting more. I am looking forward to reading so much more from this author.

This was a fabulous rom com read! One that I loved from beginning until end. This was a shorter read but I was quickly captivated and intrigued by the characters and their instant connection.

I loved the blend of both the funny moments and the serious, it was the best of both worlds. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this Doctors of Eastport General series!

I have loved every single book by this author so I would definitely recommend this one to anyone looking for their next rom com!

I am a long time fan of this amazing author, they always know how to pull you into the story, and give you that enjoyment you seek! This book was no different, I found it had a little bit of everything. I loved the characters as well as the plot. Fun and and engaging read!

The book was impossible to put down. Reading , I found there was more to Dr. D thank he wanted to be let on. He was a true mystery, but as with every mystery, there is something hidden that will eventually surface. I smiled a lot when reading this. It did not take me long, as I did not want to put it down. Loved the story and all the characters who intertwined with Dr. D! Wonderful read!

Highly recommend this book, it is a quick read and really brings on the sensational enjoyment with no holding back. The author is a must read as well, if you have not read their books as of yet. Once again I am very happy with their books, and most certainly enjoyed the heck out of this one!

This book is an amazing quick, witty, and steamy read. I gave this book 4 stars because I felt like the ending was rushed. The book has amazing flow throughout but the last two chapters seemed rushed. The story line is amazing. I felt like there could have been a little more elaboration as to where, why, and how in the last couple chapters. I am not giving away any spoilers and I do recommend this book to anyone needing a quick escape. The characters are amazing and funny. They have certain hang ups that they have to overcome by the end of the book, which does happen. This book did give me all the feels with Dr. D’s whole persona. He learned from the past and moved forward but it also gave a look as to what it means and how it feels when you let the people you love down. Emily is a fun loving and good hearted girl. She is very cautious and tends to hover in the realm of being safe. She does learn to let go a little and live. This is a humorous and quick read. I highly recommend it to anyone who has a couple hours of free time.

Spicy, steamy and romantic! I loved the plot of this being set in the hospital. I’ve worked in medical settings for a long time and it felt like being back there. The characters made me chuckle with the gossip. I loved them because they were very relatable. I felt like I was hanging with people I used to work with. I enjoyed seeing the two of them work through the trauma of previous relationships. A tad disjointed at times but it really did work. Well worth the one-click, I highly recommend. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.

This is an author that I never hesitate to pick up. I have loved reading her books from the first one I picked up. Her writing skills and attention to details make her stories easy and entertaining to read. This book is no different. I enjoyed being pulled into the story by the creative characters. They are connectable and have great growth throughout the story. This is a fast paced story that is shorter but packs a punch. I read this book in one sitting as it is that good. One night and one steamy doctor, what more could you ask for. The growth of the plot is great and keeps the story engaging. This is a must read story that I highly recommend.

Humor, whit, and an exciting plot all enmeshed into this wonderful story. I found myself laughing out loud at Emily and her antics throughout the book as she was written in such a relatable way. The romance was steamy and well worth the anticipation. I especially appreciated the real-world aspect that was written in, I wasn’t sure if it would help or hinder the story but I think it made the story feel more realistic. I wish the end was spread out a bit more, but overall an excellent read!

Great story.

Such a cute and great story. I loved reading about Desmond “Dr. D” and Emily. They are both pretty amazing and similar in some ways but also very different and it just works. I like how the story had romance but also played out the hospital part too, it was well balanced and well written. It is the first book I’ve read from the world of Doctors of Eastport General but I will definitely be checking out the others.

Quick and nice read. I was sad this book wasn’t longer, and the ending seemed rushed but I was pleased with the ending, and happy with the story. My heart absolutely broke for Desmond, the way his family treated him was absolutely unacceptable. It really sucks that just because he is a doctor he should be able to cure anyone and everyone. Emily is a cool girl, her and Doctor D. are perfect for each other, she is exactly what he needs in his life to combat all the whispers and the hurt from his family. I really enjoyed their journey to get where they are at the end and look forward to more doctors to come.

Grave Digger Academy by C.A. King is a wonderfully written young adult paranormal novel. This novel is set in an academy for Grave Diggers. What is a Grave Digger? They are the people that keep the dead in the grave from rising up. While some of the characters in this novel say that there is no need for Grave Diggers, they are proven wrong. Follow a young witch with more power than she knows along with her friends in a wonderful story. C.A. King has become one of my favorite young adult authors. While this novel is more toward young adults, adults can read it too and still get a sense of what is going on in the novel. I can’t wait to one click the next novel.

Grave Digger Academy is the first book I have read by C.A. King. It reminded me a bit of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” mixed with “The Summoning” by Kelley Armstrong– making it a truly MAGICAL read! I definitely recommend it for young adults interested in witches, ghosts, and all things magical! I enjoyed reading about Makayla and her experiences during her first year at Grave Digger Academy. Overall, this quick read was very intriguing! I kept turning the page, hoping to learn more about the purpose of the Grave Digger Academy as well as Makayla’s purpose. My only wish would be for more detail about certain characters and the surroundings. I am excited to read more books in this series!

I give Grave Digger Academy by C.A. King, 5 stars.

I have really enjoyed this author in the past and was looking forward to seeing what this book had in store for me. Not to mention, the title and concept seemed really interesting too. It surpassed my expectations. Makayla ends up in a magic academy no one wants to be in. But she does what she has to and along the way realizes more about herself and her ancestors than she ever realized. The cast of characters is varied and interesting and really helps to make this a wonderful book. The story itself really sets it aside from other books. Yes, it’s a YA magical academy book, but the foundation for the academy is quite different and is what really hooked me. I could not put this book down and hope to see many more in this series and interesting world.

The author really has another hit on their hands and I highly recommend it.

Grave Digger Academy by C.A. King – Review by Charlisa Wahtomy-Alba

Grave Digger Academy is the last place you want to end up when applying to schools. When the schools Makayla applied to all reject her this is where she ends up. Why did she get rejected by all three schools? Her grades weren’t the greatest, but surely they weren’t that horrible either? Follow Makayla as she navigates her way through some bizarre circumstances and finds out her true family history.

This was a fun paranormal YA book. I honestly was unsure what I was picking up to read as I purely chose the book based off of the title alone. This is definitely geared toward an early teen or preteen audience, but is still enjoyable for anyone above that age category. I look forward to seeing what Makayla and her classmates get up to in the next installment.

Grave Digger Academy was my first read by C.A. King, and I for one was not disappointed in this paranormal story. At less then 200 pages, I finished this amazing story in a matter of hours and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. C.A. King gives us a great protagonist, eccentric but well loved teachers, and a story line that provides tons of dark and magical things. C.A. King also provides us with wonderfully developed characters, great word building, and a plot that leaves the readers wanting more. Grave Digger Academy really sets the stage for what seems like will be a unique, fun, and magical new fictional world. Just enough detail is given to the reader to give a clear visual of the world the author is inviting us into, without the length of some other similar stories. You’re kept on your toes throughout the book, wondering what trouble Makayla is going to get herself into next during her stay at the Grave Digger Academy. This academy certainly wasn’t her first choice, but it seems that there was more at play in deciding her fate than Makayla was ever aware of, and I personally can’t wait to find out more of the back story and see where her magical training takes her. Must read!

Grave Digger Academy tells the story of Makayla, first year paranormal academy student. Makayla ends up at the one school no one ever wants to be placed at–Grave Digger Academy. But there are things about Makayla she doesn’t know. Who is stalking her in the fog and darkness? Why was she placed at Grave Digger Academy when all her brother went to more prestigious schools? Makayla needs answers–and fast before time runs out.

Grave Digger Academy is a great story. I really liked the characters and their development in the story. And I LOVED Makayla’s helpers!! The story was easy to read and moved along at a good pace. I did, however, feel like the conclusion of the book was rushed and sort of glossed over. I would have liked to have seen more happen to build suspense for the next book. I will for sure be reading the rest of the series!!

C.A. King has found a new way to write about a magical world that stands out from other books in this genre. The synopsis does not give much away about the book; which helps to keep you engaged and wanting to know more. This author has creatively and very uniquely created a world about magic, with twists in fate at every turn. I was hooked by the end of the first chapter!

There are a few times throughout the novel where the next chapter starts at a later time than the previous one ended. It left me confused at moments trying to recall the time frame of events; I feel there could’ve been more detail in regards to flow of the months.

Overall it is a recommended read from me, looking for to reading the next books in the series!

Grave Digger Academy is a paranormal YA book that reminds me a bit of Harry Potter, but instead of a sorting hat, people apply to their magical academies of choice through a family book, but the magic places you where you should be.

The characters and story are interesting, and the book is well written. I did want to get to know some of the characters a bit more. The book was a good first book in the series, and sets up the world for future books, but it did seem to gloss over some areas that I would have liked to see more in depth – more interactions between the characters, more info on what they are learning in classes, that kind of thing. Despite wanting this, I still very much enjoyed the book and will be reading the rest of the series.

Makayla is part of a big family, she her mum, her dad and also has six brothers and they are all older than she is, the only difference is that they are a magical family and when they come of age, they go to a magical academy and now this day has finally arrived for Makayla, so here she is in their pristine, white living room and about to choose where she wants to apply. As she leafs through the ancient tome in front of her, she looks at each of the academies, what she needs to get into them and which would be best suited to her, she narrows the choices down to the three that she would like, she is torn between choosing the ones she will get into and the one her family expects her to apply for.

It is sometime later when Makayla is woken up by the sounds of her brothers going down for breakfast and the first day of term, but when she eventually goes downstairs, there is no start of year gift and no breakfast ready for her, instead there is an empty place and a gift from her mum instead. She is now running late and almost misses the bus, but with no letter to say which academy she is at, she is lost when she gets to the campus, but nobody is willing to help her until she makes it so that they can’t ignore her. However, there are still no clear instructions and she struggles to find her way, but she isn’t on her own and soon runs into a couple of other kids who are in the same situation, they work together to figure out the first lot of instructions, but are soon separated to find their own way. As the tests and instructions present more obstacles to cross, Makayla eventually finds her way back to the others and into the campus she is being sent to and unfortunately, it isn’t one of the ones she has chosen, it is the least popular choice, the Grave Digger Academy.

The whole situation looks bleak, the building, the surroundings, the interior decoration and even the classes when they start up, but Makayla has made some friends and that helps to deal with the challenges and things which crop up in their studies. The first thing they learn is the difference between a gravedigger who prepares the graves and a Grave Digger who stops whatever is buried from coming back up, but things aren’t always what they seem, so will Makayla be able to keep up with her studies and make it through the year, or will she get in over her head in more ways than one? This is a fantasy tale of what happens when the dead come back to haunt us and the who the people are who are the only barrier between us and them and it is a tale which pulls you through all the way through it to the end.

This is the first book I have read by C.A. King. Grave Digger Academy was an entertaining, fun and a very Harry Potterish kind of story.

Makayla was the youngest of seven and the pressure to go to the most prestigious school has always been a burden. She puts in a bunch of applications but ends up with the dreaded Grave Digger Academy. It can’t be all that bad right?! On the first day of school all her siblings get new wands and she ends up with her mother giving Makayla what she things is a useless ugly necklace but finds out maybe its not as useless as one may thing. What kind of family secrets will unfold? She ends up trying to make a potion for one of her classes that would be considered dark magic which is prohibited but her professor has other plans for her.

I would totally read more of Kings work.

I’m so happy this book is a series. It was so original and not what I was expecting. I loved it! I’ve read quite a few of this author’s books and have never been disappointed. I found this book to be different from her others but just as good. Makayla is a witch and is starting her first year in the paranormal academy system. She gets the option of choosing three schools which she would like to attend but in the end, the school chooses you. It’s quite interesting the way it happens. She ends up at the academy where no one wants to go. A grave digger’s main purpose is to keep the dead, well, dead. There is more going on beneath the surface (pun intended). Makayla has a lot to learn and secrets to uncover.

This book is a wonderful fantasy filled with twists and turns. Makayla is headstrong and doesn’t want to accept fate, she wants to forge her own path. This should lead to some interesting scenarios with the rest of the series. I’m looking forward to it.

Grave Digger Academy by C.A. King
Four Stars

Grave Digger Academy is the first book in the Grave Digger Academy series by C.A. King. It never ceases to amaze me, how Ms. King can come up with these amazing stories. This one is my new favorite. Makayla’s story had me reading into the night. I just couldn’t put it down until I finished. Another thing I love about Ms. King’s books is they tend to be shorter installments that you can read in one sitting, but still pack a punch of a longer book. I’m really looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
