The Crown of Stones: Magic-Price by C. L. Schneider – Review by Jenni Bishop

Magic-Price (The Crown of Stones, #1)Magic-Price by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Crown of Stones: Magic-Price by C.L. Schneider is right up my alley and a wonderful start to the series. I really enjoyed her other series Nite Fire, I love a good fantasy story (it’s my passion and what got me hooked on reading, but I digress) which CL did a great job of writing this one. It’s dark overtones and unique magic, just made it more interesting. It is intricately woven and has many layers but the joy in the read was peeling back those layers to reveal the heart of the story and the characters. The story has everything you need and to make it a great, there is plenty of danger and action, drama and magic, intrigue and suspense, and the usual light vs darkness. I really enjoyed the unique twist used in Ian’s magic. CL gives us a world that you can easily imagine due to her writing and world building.

Ian has been living in fear of his magic and using it for a long long time. Having to live with the deaths of so many makes his life a living hell. When he stumbles upon a new threat, with its heart purely on destroying everything and anything to get what it wants, Ian is forced back into using the one thing he hates most.

If you love fantasy you need to read this.

Magic-Price (The Crown of Stones, #1)Magic-Price by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Magic Price is the first book in The Crown of Stone Series by C.L Schneider. It is a really well thought out and intricately woven, action-packed high fantasy- with sword fighting, magic, adventure, intensity, drama, originality, brilliant world building, surprising developments, intrigue, suspense, and so much more. I loved Ms. Schneider’s Nite Fire Series, and I am a sucker for epic fantasy, so it was a no brainer when I discovered this series- grabbing a copy and immediately diving in. The story is darker than I had initially expected, with a raw grittiness that really gave this story an extra element of interest. It is also a very imaginative and original take on epic fantasy- especially with the lore of magic being so unique to this book/series.
Ms. Schneider brilliant world building skills are really highlighted here- as the world is ‘alive’ and entirely realistic and believable- so richly painted with attention to detail to all the different races, histories, and culture/s.
Ian Troy is a bounty hunter living a life of self-imposed exile. Living with the ghosts of the past which haunt his days and invade his nights. He single-handedly ended a war- but has been paying the price ever since. But when the past returns with a new threat against him, the land, and his people- Ian has no choice but to wield magic again. There is much at stake- but what will the price be this time?
This is a fantastic story/series- really is epic, intriguing, unique and very creative. Ms. Schneider proves her storytelling prowess with this book and series.
I really recommend this book/series to anyone who loves an epic, action-packed fantasy!

Thank you, Ms. Schneider!

The Crown of Stones: Magic-Price by C. L. Schneider was a fun and adventurous story. I loved it! I was immediately hooked and intrigued from the beginning of the book featuring the epic battle. I really loved how easily the storyline flowed from this event and kept my attention. I felt that it was organized and edited professionally. I did not observe many errors. I also enjoyed the characters. I felt that they were excellently developed and were easy to visualize. I also enjoyed the various settings and felt they were very descriptive. It was easy to visualize each using various senses to picture myself in the novel. This is the first novel in this series, and I look forward to what comes next. I highly recommend it!

What a wonderful book! It has a good solid story, great plot, the dialogue was smooth and flowing. C. L. Schneider has written a winner with The Crown of Stones: Magic Price. Ian Troy is unforgettable as are all the well-crafted players in this great book. It gets a little steamy in places but even with all that this book hits my perfect list. Although this is a fantasy it doesn’t feel like one. I can’t wait to read the next one, however I should probably clean my house first because I couldn’t put this one down.

Nite Fire: Smoke & Mirrors (Book 3) by C. L. Schneider – Review by Jenni Bishop

Nite Fire: Smoke & MirrorsNite Fire: Smoke & Mirrors by C. L. Schneider
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Nite Fire: Smoke & Mirrors (Book 3) by C. L. Schneider is a supernatural shifter story and another exciting book in this series. You really need to read these books in order or you are missing so much on the characters and the world around them. C.L.’s writing is enticing and the word building is spot on when you can vividly imagine the characters and the world in which they fight to live, they are interesting and our heroine is brash, loud and sassy. The intrigue and action will keep you engaged right to the end. The story take a you on a journey where there are supernatural beings, demons and humans.
Dahlia Nite is half dragon and half human who is as tough as nails. She has fled her world and fights to protect humans by hunting creatures that don’t belong on the human world. Dahlia has had to come up with elaborate and far reaching details, that seem farfetched on a good day, to keep the truth from others but it is becoming harder and harder as the truth is slowly being brought to surface. Once again with body parts piling up, Dahlia needs to find and stop the killers before all supernatural beings are exposed.

I recommend this book and can’t wait to see what happens next.

Nite Fire: Smoke & Mirrors was a great 5 star read and book three in the Nite Fire series. I was pulled in right from the beginning, I’m really enjoying this series. I couldn’t wait to see how things came together in the end for this story.

Dahlia and her partner Alex are working on a bizarre case involving nonhuman beings. While investigating they encounter supernatural worlds that bring several different characters.

Can they solve the mystery behind the crimes? Will she be able to save her friends sister?

Overall I enjoyed this book, we get suspense, secrets, mysteries and so much more. We continue to see Dahlia grow stronger as each book comes along. All of the characters added a great element to the story. We even get to see some from previous books in the series. C.L. Schneider does a great job with her writing, the detail is great and you feel like you are right there with the characters. If you’re looking for a great urban fantasy series to read, I highly suggest you 1-click and get started on this one.

Smoke & Mirrors (Nite Fire #3)Smoke & Mirrors by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Nite Fire: Smoke & Mirrors is the third book in the series and is quite possibly the strongest of the three. I have read the previous two and really enjoyed them, so I was excited to see what would come next. C.L. Schneider did not disappoint. Now, normally I don’t choose these types of novels that get really sci-fi. They tend to bore me with details and end up just leaving me confused and unfulfilled. That is never the case with Schneider’s novels. They come alive right before your eyes and grip your attention quite demandingly from the very first few pages. I always feel as if I have embarked on a wonderful adventure and often left missing the strange new lands we found, anxious to go back.

I really enjoyed the characters in this one as well, Dahlia is one of those strong and fearless leads that you just can’t help but fall in love with. I enjoyed seeing some familiar faces as well. And, as always, the creatures are detailed and as realistic as they could be. I loved the vibrant pictures they painted in my mind as I read. My only complaint being this book ended when it did, never enough when it is a fantastic read. I look forward to seeing what will come next!

Smoke & Mirrors by C.L. Schneider is the third book in her Nite Fire series! Finally! It was a long wait for Dahlia Nite’s next challenging case! You absolutely need to read the stories in the order as otherwise you’ll be lost as you don’t know Dahlia’s story …
Dahlia and her human partner Alex Creed are following the trail of random body parts that were discovered along a river bank that had recently flooded. It is a puzzling case as Dahlia cannot figure out why there are body parts of other world creatures in the mix … so once again Dahlia is forced to straddle both the human world and the supernatural world and as we all know then these encounters always have consequences …
I cannot wait for the next instalment as the writer leaves us craving for what comes next!

Smoke & Mirrors (Nite Fire #3) by C.L. Schneider was a fast pace, action filled, suspenseful read, that had me hooked.

The third book in the Nite Fire series and it kicks off right away setting the stage, tone, and the deadly mystery. I got sucked in right away and I did not want to stop reading this book. It has everything I love about otherworldly magic, urban fantasy, and shifter fantasy all rolled into one hell of a good read. It’s like the crossover between world I’ve been dreaming about, but could never fine. The MC is my dream, smart, witty, strong, emotional and oddly relatable. The detail is on point, drawing, and really shuts off the outside world, to where you think you’re watching a movie.

Overall this book, this series is a much read and it deserves all the hype, the promotions and your time and energy. So please take my super high recommendation and my golden stamp of approval, that you will not be able to put this outstanding book down.

SMOKE & MIRRORS is the third book in the “Nite Fire” series and I highly recommend reading them in order. I’m not sure they should be read as stand-alones because there is so much world building and character development in the first two.

I think this series just gets better and better. I am not sure if it is because; I’m familiar with the cadence of the story – if it is because these characters are no longer strangers – or if it is because the author just keeps getting better and better.

This series has things that go bump in the night including (but not limited to) ghosts, shape shifters, cops, banshees, unexplained crimes and so so much more.

I highly recommend this book, this series and this author.

Nite Fire: Smoke And Mirrors was an excellent dragon shifter novel. This paranormal story is full of action and adventure. Dahlia Nite is faced with another challenging case when random body parts are discovered along a recently flooded river bank. What she cant understand is why there are pieces of other world creatures in the mix.

Once again the author has done an amazing job with this novel and with Dahlia’s character. She continues to mature in this novel and seems to open herself up more. I recommend reading this novel in order beginning with book one to really understand everything. The storyline is fast paced, exciting, and easy to follow. A great read about shadows. Dahlia Nite is a lyrriken dragon shifter working for the police force. One day, a series of body parts turns up at a local riverbank and not all of them are human. With only mysteries to go on, Dahlia and her friends chase shadows that lead to one grim scene after another and a group of dangerous men in masks. Can they solve the crimes before more creatures get hurt?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Dahlia bold and brave but caring underneath or Evans as a fun loving friend but grieving underneath. Great cats of supporting characters like the suspicious Ronnie or the stubborn Creed.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel with the sense of macabre with the body parts and gurney and furnaces horrifying but still realistic. Or with the Gant mansion on a high cliff with its long path and old spires and windows with the sense of the gothic and unsettling perfectly written. Or the use of sounds and smells so vivid it’s as if you’re actually there.
A great example of world bulling with fantasy creatures coexisting alongside humanity with their own rules and laws and societies. I loved the inclusion of different fantasy cretaues into the novel such as the banshee or aswang or selkie given the respect they deserve and true to their origins and wonderfully written.
I also loved the use of suspense in the novel with slow builds to the scenes in the slaughter house or the factory with a sense of foreboding that something isn’t right. Or the draw of suspense around the crimes, making you want to read on to find out who is behind it all and why they are doing it. Fast paced action and high stakes make for a caotivsting read. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.

Smoke & Mirrors is the third book in the Nite Fire series.

I am absolutely in love with this series. All of the books are wonderful, this one is no exception. The characters come alive and the story has twists and turns that keep you fascinated. I don’t think there is ever a slow moment as you go through the story with Dahlia trying to piece together the clues. In each story it is getting harder and harder for Dahlia and the dragons to cover up what is happening behind the scenes that the humans have been so blissfully unaware of. I think chapter 35 broke me a little bit. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend this series. Looking forward to the next book!
