Such a sweet read! I related so much to Carina and her feelings about looking for her place in things. As you grow and your children go you have to learn a new role and that can be hard. I’m always down for a good Christmas read and this one did not disappoint! I really loved reading about Carina and her family’s memories. She has been through so much and needs to find her peace. I really enjoyed reminiscing with Carina throughout the story. I look forward to reading more from this author for sure!

The Perfect Mrs. Claus by Barbara Matteson is a delightful Christmas time tale. The story centers around Savannah Brady and Matthew Buck. Savannah is a widow, as her husband Bradley had passed a couple years prior to an aneurysm. They also had a son named Patrick who unfortunately lives overseas. Matthew is a divorced father- his daughter Athena also living overseas with his ex-wife Summer. Matthew spots Savannah as she watches as Howardson’s decorate the store with Christmas decor, and he feels a strong pull towards her and strongly feels that she could complete his Enchanted Land of Claus by portraying Mrs. Claus. They sit down to discuss his ideas and from there, the book begins to unfold into a very endearing story of two lonely people coming together to find love again later in life.
I honestly adored this story more than I thought I would. I loved how kind and level-headed Matthew was and I envisioned him as this sweet, handsome gentle soul. Savannah is determined and witty, but also kind as well. I thought their characters fit together perfectly and their interactions had me chuckling and smiling as I read along. I would absolutely recommend adding this to your list of to-read’s if you enjoy sweet love stories with older, mature characters. This would be a perfect book to read with a steaming cup of hot chocolate.

A Crossbow Christmas was my first foray into the ‘Hallmark Christmas Books’ and I must say, it was wonderful. This should be a Hallmark movie 1000%. I found myself sympathizing with Carina and feeling her pain. I loved her connections with others throughout the book and especially adored the way the author wrapped everything up. I was definitely moved to tears in the best way!

This was a lovely read just in time for Christmas, full of romance and hopefulness. Savannah is on her own for the first time in a long while. She has mourned the passing of her husband and her son moved to Switzerland, so she is looking for ways to fill her ample alone time. As she peruses her favorite store, she is presented with a life-changing opportunity to be the Perfect Mrs. Claus. I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this story. The author has an amazing way of connecting you to the characters almost immediately, and you spend the rest of the story hoping for the best for each of them. I definitely recommend picking up this beautiful holiday book and getting lost in the enchanting lives inside.
I thoroughly enjoyed this festive romance which had me hooked from page one, and kept me happily turning the pages. Fifty-three year old Savannah Brady sees herself as far from perfect, if anything she’s just walking through life like a zombie and merely surviving, not living. She’s felt like this since the tragic death of her husband, followed by her son moving to Switzerland for a job leaving her alone for the first time in her life. Everything changes for Savannah when she wonders into her favourite place to spend her lunchtime, ‘Howardson’s Emporium’. She only went in to browse the Halloween sale aisles, but a chance conversation with one of the store’s employees leads to her being invited to become the Perfect Mrs. Claus. Being in a Christmas wonderland where holiday dreams come true, changes Savannah’s life in unimaginable ways and even leads to the possibility of a romance. I loved Savannah and felt really engaged with her, as she was such a likeable and relatable character and I was invested in her story. I liked the fact that the heroine was an older lady and that the romance was between an older couple, which is unusual in a romance. The wonderful Christmas wonderland setting was brought vividly to life by the descriptive narrative. This was an enjoyable and engaging festive read which left me in the Christmas spirit!

This was an enjoyable and entertaining age gap romance with a twist on the student, teacher theme. The student is an ex-marine, widower and construction company owner Jim Sanders, and the teacher is Juliet West, an English professor, divorcee, and yoga and gardening hobbyist. Jim is just looking for some culture and Juliet is skeptical that love is real, let alone love at first sight, but then the two meet. I liked the fact that both of the main characters were older than the usual age in romance stories, and that Juliet was older than Jim. I liked both the characters and thought their chemistry came across in the narrative. The duel POV’s worked well in this story and ensured that the reader got to know both characters and their thoughts, which made me feel engaged with them.

If you want to get into the Christmas spirit then this is definitely the book to read. Savannah is such a heart warming character. She is relatable in so many ways and you can’t help but root for her, want her to find her way. The connection between her and Matthew is lovely to see. Watching it develop over the course of the story is something that really made me happy. This isn’t an author I am familiar with but I enjoyed getting to know her and her writing style. This book was the perfect kind of introduction and I am looking forward to discovering more of her work.
This is my first book from this author. I was very intrigued to read this book because it is very relatable to me. Carina’s journal entry an family loss in such a short period of time plus her family situation drew me right in. I did have a hard time keeping interest with how slow the story continued but it did pick up towards the end. Overall it was a good story.

Carina is reflecting on recent events that brought both grief and illness all around her. COVID is an unforgivable virus that showed no mercy to some of the people in her life. Christmas is around the corner and needing a break she takes up an offer from a man in her grief group. Life has a way of finding small blessings in the most unlikely places.
I thought this story nailed the variety of emotions you can have with Covid, trying to find a new normal, suffering loss. At times it was hard to read as it brought up feelings I have had certainly during the pandemic, but I looked at this as a reflection of the past that I was able to move away from. If your looking for a book that is about reflection and moving on this is one to pick up.

This was a timely book, as I am watching the snow fall outside and am ready to put up my Christmas decorations! Reading A Crossbow Christmas reminded me of a Hallmark movie. All the feels with all the characters. Having just come off of having Covid, Carina is ready to celebrate the holidays with all the people she loves. But after having lost her parents and sisters all within a few years, she is also ready for a vacation. Max offers up his cabin to her. She met Max in a grief support group, so they share much in common. This holiday story is a story of emotion, connection and learning to care for ourselves and others.

I Love you Today is the second book in the Trading Heartbeats Trilogy, and again – I. Loved. It! Julie Navickas has written this book as beautifully as the first. Austin is trying to move on without Mavis and works to fulfill his dream to be partner in the law firm, he’s been working for. Casey has lost her roommate and best friend, now that Mavis is engaged to Josh. Austin and Casey begin a friendship, that is witty and flirty. When the opportunity for Austin to get the law firm established in Chicago, Casey has a room for him to stay. Will their budding friendship blossom into more? They have plenty of ups and downs and I was right there with them! This book kept me guessing until the end, and I can’t wait for the next in the trilogy!

This is a teacher/student romance that’s a bit different from others that I’ve read. Juliet is a 55 year old teacher, and Jim (Jimmy, James – it changes so often) is her 43 year old ex-marine, literature student. I have mixed feelings about this book. I loved that the author wrote about an older couple in my age bracket rather than the usual 20 and 30 somethings we usually get. What I didn’t like is the way that Jim is portrayed as being very unintelligent. This didn’t sit well with me. Also, for someone who is so uneducated, he certainly seems to be able to quote Shakespeare at the drop of a hat after only 1 lesson. It just seemed rather unrealistic. As much as I liked the 2 main characters, I found their relationship quite unbelievable too. I struggled with how Jim was professing undying love so quickly after meeting Juliet. Maybe I’m just a cynical old woman but it just felt rather unbelievable. It’s not all doom and gloom. I did like the characters and there’s some good humour and banter between them which I enjoyed reading.

This was a heartwarming and engaging read with a festive feel to it, which had me gripped from start to finish. The storyline is an emotional and relatable one, set following the pandemic, and Carina having survived Covid is looking forward to a big family Christmas. Sadly as well as spending a month in the hospital herself, with Covid, she also lost people to the disease. A bereaved and recovering Carina just wants all her family together at Christmas, but no one seems to care, her grown up children are scattered around the country and her husband is working out of town. Seeking some support she turns to a grief group, and a young man offers her his family cabin in the mountains of Colorado for the festive period. Not being very adventurous Carina is nervous of doing this on her own, she’s not used to doing something so extravagant for herself as she’s usually everyone else’s caregiver. However, with the thought of a guaranteed white Christmas, Carina writes about it in her journal, as a way of trying to convince herself that she can do it alone. I loved Carina and she was so likeable and relatable that I really felt for her, and her post Covid wish for a family Christmas. Being set post pandemic made the storyline very relatable for everyone. An emotional read but with real Christmas spirit, and I definitely recommend reading it.

With the holiday season coming up, this was a wonderful story to get me into the festive spirit. This was another new author for me so I was not sure what to expect, but this would make a wonderful TV movie. I could feel some existing feelings as this was written about the holiday season coming out of the pandemic and I remember last year getting to spend the holidays with my family. While it was fun and entertaining there was also the family drama to go along with it. This story pulled at my heartstrings in so many ways. From feeling lonely, sad, and pensive she decides to write down her thoughts and feelings to help her through the grieving and changes of how her world has changed while she was not around them. I will say that the cabin she was writing in would be a dream come true. I would love to have the opportunity to spend the holidays there. Great read. I highly recommend it.

Savannah cooks up a full thanksgiving meal and delivers it to Sylvene and her mom for thanksgiving. Sylvene writes a Christmas wish letter for Santa, her only wish is for her mother to be happy, that’s it. Austin fell in love with Mavis after having feelings for Casey, who he couldn’t be with due to his twin brother Josh. Josh and Casey were high school sweethearts before Casey left mysteriously after high school due to a secret she had. Casey knew if she confessed her secret that Josh wouldn’t go to college and she wanted him to go without feeling guilty. Austin runs into Casey years later and is able to bring everyone back together again, knowing that he has a secret as well. Mavis is Casey’s roommate and gets tangled up the the homecoming of everyone. I would highly recommend this book and the trilogy. It kept my attention through the whole book.

Matthew is a divorced dad and savanna is a widow. The book is extremely cute and it’s getting me in the holiday spirit! So what a perfect time to read this book! First book I’ve read by this author and I really enjoyed it. They’ve both have gone through some hard times in life and savanna finally wants to start living! And she has such a good sense of humor! I love it! And Matthew is just as amazing! Great characters, great plot, great writing! Loved reading their journey! I will be checking out more books by Barbara!
What a wonderful read for this time of year! Honestly I will probably reread it through out the year to keep the spirit! The characters are wonderful and the story is so well told that readers cannot put the book down! Lessons can also be learned on how to treat each other.

This was a very fun, easy read. That characters were relatable and you could feel their chemistry coming off the pages. I’ve never understood the “Teacher/Student” romance pull but despite the title of this book you could tell there was more meat to the story than just that! I love reading Christmas/Holiday stories ones it gets closer to the holiday season. When I saw and read the sample for this book, I knew that I had to read it and it was so amazing!! Savannah is a wonderful lady who has undergone some tragic events, with losing her husband and has been learning how to move on after such a horrible loss. When her son moves that is what prompts her to go to the store and leads her to be offered the possibility of being a perfect Mrs. Claus. I loved the whimsical feel of this story and enjoyed it as it helped me get into the wonderful world of Christmas. I cannot wait to read more books by this author!

I am a sucker for a good teacher/student romance book and had to read this when I saw it! This genre of book is a guilty pleasure of mine and this one was so amazing!! This author wrote such an amazing story with these two characters. I found myself not wanting to clock back in from lunch as I just wanted to continue reading!! Juliet is divorced and wants to be in a relationship but does not want to be heartbroken again, I mean who would want that? And then there is James, who is a sweet guy, who kind of keeps to himself who is in a routine and doesn’t know how to get out. When these two meet sparks fly, and their love story/journey is super original and entertaining. I have added this to my reread selection of books for when I can’t find another one. I cannot wait to read more stories by this wonderful author!!

Immediately on starting this book my heart went out to Carina and stayed fully engaged until the very last word. She suffers so much loss and hardship, including battling Covid herself, in such a short period of time. After coming through all that she is a little lost and unsure of her place in this new world of ours filled with Covid and face masks and she worries constantly about her family. Carina is such a wonderfully written and totally relatable character. I love her friendship with Max, a young man she strikes up a friendship with that she meets in a grief group who has lost his wife to cancer. This book will bring out so many emotions and keep you captivated from start to finish all while reminding you of the very needed joy of the Christmas spirit. It’s an absolutely wonderful holiday read.

Carina has have a rough go lately, between COVID, caring for her father, losing a family member, she is feeling very down. She wants nothing more than a big family Christmas but her adult kids seem busy in their own lives and husband is working out of town. She connects with a young man on a online grief support group and he offers her his cabin in the mountains for the holidays to try to cheer her up and get her out of the funk she’s in. Hoping to have a wonderful white Christmas, she packs her journal and goes. Great read about healing and getting out of your comfort zone.

This was a great 5 star read. This author has quickly become a must read for me. She once again pulled me right in with her writing. I really enjoyed Teddy and Robyn story. There of course are ups and downs and things from the past that cause issues. Teddy lost 5 years of his life for something he didn’t do and Robyn still held him in her heart. What a sweet Christmas romance! I love Savannah’s character but really grew fond of Matthew and Fern too! I enjoyed getting to know the different characters in the story. You get to read a little of everyone’s backstory even though the story focuses on Savannah and Matthew. It has a great surprise ending that I really wasn’t expecting. I really like the easy writing style of the author and will be looking into more of her books. You are sure to enjoy this clean Christmas romance!

This is a perfect sequel, but great as a stand-alone as well. I enjoyed becoming reacquainted with characters I had previously met. It was nice to meet new friends as well. The female protagonist, much like myself, is a notorious klutz who will trip over anything or nothing. I enjoyed reading about characters who are unable to take the traditional expected life route right after high school. Some people actually have to struggle and strive to achieve their goals. It was nice to see the nontraditional student being cheered on by those around her. I’m eagerly awaiting the third installment of this trilogy!

If you are needing a story to get you in the Christmas spirit, look no further. This is the story of love after loss and finding yourself again. Beautiful pictures were painted in my mind as I read. Savannah and Matthew are both missing something but have resigned themselves to where they are in life. An accidental meeting changes the course of each of their lives forever. This will be one I will be reading again when I am in the need of a boost in my holiday spirit.
I enjoyed this story. The story has a wonderful underlying tale with the Rom Com nights. Plus all the movie themed bits snuck in here. The characters are good. The four women have a wonderful story of getting together and being besties through everything. Then enter the men in their lives. Ryan is impulsive and quick to acknowledge his “like” upon meeting Lisa. Neither party was at their “best” upon first meeting which is good. Their tale is filled with best friends, misunderstandings and inner turmoil. They have highs and lows which make the storyline move along at a quick pace. I laughed and even teared up a time or two.
Overall this is a charmingly wonderful tale of friendship and overcoming adversity. I look forward to more in this series.

KG Fletcher has done it again. She has created a story that is complex and romantic and completely captivating. I was hooked on this story as soon as I started reading and I couldn’t wait to see how the story would develop. I thought the characters were perfect for the story too. They had such complicated histories and the kind of connection that you want to work. As the first book in a new series this is a strong start. It sets the tone for how the rest of the series is likely to go and has got me excited for the other books already. I am looking forward to seeing what is next for the series.
