Bake Happy (Bake Believe Series Book 3) by Cori Cooper – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

Bake HappyBake Happy by Cori Cooper
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Bake Happy is the final instalment of the Bake Believe trilogy, bringing the series to a satisfying conclusion with a captivating story of fate, wishes and grumpy teenagers.

If you’re new to this series, I would recommend reading the books in order. It’s a wonderful series for teen readers full of magic and delicious food. It would make a great holiday read as every chapter is accompanied by a recipe for a delicious treat that appears in the story – it will definitely provide days of entertainment!

I particularly liked the extent to which Bake Happy addresses the moral implications of Cat’s family’s gift/curse. They are, for the most part, careful when they bake emotions into things to only do happiness. But what if people don’t want to be happy?

I also really liked getting to spend a bit more time with Maurice, and hear his story. It’s great that this series brings together several generations of family members who share their ideas, experiences and baked goods with each other.

Definitely 5 stars from me! I’d recommend it to teen and pre-teen readers who love baking and magic (and have already read the first two books – if not, do that first!)

This is the third book in this series. I have loved all of these books. It was beautiful to see how the character Cat grew and developed through these books. Each books deals with different aspects and troubles that any young girl goes through and the way Cat deal with these things makes the stories enjoyable and relatable.

I also love the passion Cat has for baking and how the success of her baking depends on the emotions she is feeling and what she is going through at that time. It is also lovely to read of the connection of the family starting with her grandma and passing down the love of baking.

Another beautiful little surprise in the stories is the recipes so you can make them yourself. I found this a really unique twist and helped to bring the story to life even more.

These books are definately a must read of any young person trying to navigate the changes that come from being a child and growing into a young adult.

“What?” Nate’s forehead wrinkles, “You mean we like Freaky Fridayed?” “I do not know what this means,” Maurice says…”

Nate and Cat are having a mixup of trouble in this, the final installment of this trilogy. Somehow, during a family dinner, Nate and Cat had a heated exchange and set off some events that made for a week of drama, humor and challenges galore. Don’t eat the goodies….those emotions are running free. This book was so entertaining. Cat and her family, Robyn and her family, Jojo, Jake, Nate, Liam, Tobey, and the cast of others make for a story of teen angst and drama that is so relatable. The reference to Freaky Friday was awesome. I’ve been around awhile so I can think back to the original. I also found the story of Evie and Maurice so romantic and heartbreaking. A plot twist for the win. This trilogy has been so entertaining to read plus recipes to boot: Tres Leches Cake; Almond Bark; and many more. A win for all of us.

Bake Off by Cori Cooper – Review by Deborah White

Bake OffBake Off by Cori Cooper
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Bake Off is a charming book for all ages that has a story similar to Like Water for Chocolate, Just Add Magic and Encanto combined with its own flair. It will leave you feeling warm and wanting to bake. The best part of all is that for each chapter there is a recipe included that allows you to recreate some of the magic from the story.

The main character Cat goes on a trip with her family to learn more about baking and ends up there just in time for a wonderful surprise. I thoroughly enjoyed the character development and was able to follow along well despite not having read the previous book in the series, although now I’m even more intrigued to see how that story unfolded into this enchanting sequel. The ending of the book concluded well but left me wanting more. I enjoyed the book and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

I highly recommend this book for baking enthusiasts and those who are looking for a small town packed full of adventure and mysteries to be uncovered.

Bake OffBake Off by Cori Cooper
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Bake Off is the second book in the Bake Believe series. It is a fun story of a young girl coming into her own, really starting to discover herself, and her family in a whole new way.
She doesn’t only have normal teen issues to deal with, like school, and boys. She has a special gift that she doesn’t understand and is having trouble getting a handle on it. In this book, she takes a trip to visit her family in Arizona, hoping to learn more about her gift and her family. She wants to use her gift for good but she has to understand it first.
Once again the author has done an amazing job pulling you into the pages of the book. They don’t just tell you how the character feels, they bring it to life so that you can imagine the feeling as if it is happening to you. The story is light and funny and the main character learns some life lessons along the way. There is just enough mystery to without getting too complicated, making this book perfect for anyone from the age of 10 and up. This book is just very well written. I can’t wait for the next book in the series and I would definitely recommend.

This book was a really great sequel to the first book. It was a perfect clean teen read with enough surprises to keep you guessing. The first book was great but this sequel really took the cake. Full of teen angst, a hint of romance, and plenty of humor this book was a great read and definitely parent approved.

This was a very cute coming of age story! The characters were lovable and the family dynamic was relatable. Everyone remembers those awkward coming of age years but to add baking that immensely messes with peoples feelings to the mix, who would have thought!
Throughout the story you find yourself wanting to know more background on each characters and longing to understand how each character fits into the story! The author did a great job of keeping the readers attention!
The only complaint is I wish the author would have incorporated the pretzels more that were so important in the beginning!

This book is a good preteen book. It starts with Cat’s last day of summer vacation. Cat grew up in a house where no one bakes. At all. Ever. Her mother seems a bit odd and Cat seems to be a bit much. But I love her character and remember being like her at that age. I love that there are recipes in each chapter, which do not skip over them. They are just as good as the rest of the book. I can’t wait to read the next book to find out more!

Bake Off is the second book in the Bake Believe series aimed at pre-teen and young teen readers. The story is a fun, baking magic story. Cat is learning more about her family and coming into her own as a baker. Will this new insight and information on her family help her succeed and excel?
I enjoyed this fun, family-orientated story. The characters are fun, and it is fantastic to see them developing more since the first book. The story is also interesting and will grab the attention of any young teen interested in baking and cooking. I enjoy finding new stories to hand to my niece to grab her attention and get her to read more. I look forward to the next book in the series and where Cat’s story goes next.

Cat has made the road trip with her family to see the family bakery and to (hopefully) figure out how to control her emotional baking. Instead of just sitting down and laying out the family history, CG creates a scavenger hunt that gives Cat and Robyn a more “hands on” approach. But, Cat is observant, and is noticing that there are lots of things not being said from different members of her family…and she is determined to figure it out. Turns out there is more going on than everyone is letting on.

I enjoyed the first book in the series and was happy to see Cat get some answers that will help her. This book is definitely written for a younger reader (maybe 10-14 years of age), but I still enjoyed it. And…there is a recipe at the end of each chapter that sounds super yummy!

This book is the second in a series, which I thought I had read the first book but I must have been dreaming. lol Anyway, I was able to figure out the characters but I think I may have missed something by not reading the fist book. I’m sure I’ll be correcting that mistake very soon.

I love Cat and her grandma GG, who challenges Cat with recipes and not making it too easy for Cat and Robyn to figure out answers. How fun to have a scavenger hunt around the city finding the answers that GG won’t provide easily. I think this was not only fun but also helped
Cat really find out about her ancestors and especially the original baker of the family.

The characters are really easy to connect with, the book is a really fun read, and the recipes listed in the book would be a fun experience for young bakers to try!

Bake Off is the second in the series, sequel to Bake Believe. It is a fun urban fantasy for preteen and teen readers who love baking and food. There’s a recipe at the end of every chapter – I can imagine reading it together during the school holidays, doing a chapter a day and then making the recipe! But I ended up mostly reading it on the subway, saving the recipes for later. Anyway, I do love a book that lets you know how to make the delicious treats it’s been describing!
The story is written from Cat’s perspective. I really like the style – it feels like chatting to a teenager about their interests and experiences. Even the recipes are in this friendly and conversational style. Cat is observant, and we see her thought process as she notices the tensions and behaviour of her family and figures out how best to respond.
This is a really fun read! I love baking and enjoy reading fantasy, so it’s perfect for me and gets five stars! I would recommend the series to young readers who love to bake and eat delicious food!

Cat is back and this time Cat, Robyn and the rest of the family are off to visit GG (Grandma Ginny). Of course there are adventures and antics that create the fun atmosphere this author has a way with. This book was enjoyable even for me although I would imagine the target audience is ages 10-16ish. My daughter and I are both avid readers and though she is an adult as well I will be passing this series to her as I have so far really enjoyed it. I am very much looking forward to book three.

Bake Off is book 2 of the Bake Believe series, and should be read in order. There is a lot of background information and ground work laid in the first book that would be needed to fully understand and enjoy Bake Off. While the book is written for children, I am an adult and thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the writing style, it was very realistic. There is a lot of sarcasm and phrases used, that makes it really seem like it is written by a 14 year old. The great Grandma, GG, is very well written. Her phrases are written in broken English, realistic of the fact that she is from France. The characters are all well written and I grew to love them all. Upon writing this review, I see that this is going to be a trilogy- yay! I cant wait to read another in the series. I plan to pass this book to my pre-teen daughter to read.

In book 2, we again catch up with Cat, Robyn, Tobey, and friends. In this round, Cat has managed to talk her parents into going to meet her GG and aunt Jojo, and learn about why her cooking magic works the way that it does.

Cat learns so much about her family history, but all of it seems to just make things more confusing instead of answering any questions. To make it worse, her being in Arizona, haing to get up at 5 AM to practice baking with GG, and listening to everyone fight all the time keeps her away from Tobey. Can her family heal? Can Cat learn why her cooking works the way that it does? Will her mom and Jojo ever get along again?

This series is imaginative, magical, endearing, and a lot of fun – plus it offers tasty recipes!

This book was cute, fun, has recipes included, and offers a glimpse of life through a teenagers eyes. Imaginative, fun, and not another dystopian-like-all-the-others YA novel.

All Cat wants is for her last day of summer to be the most epically awesome day EVER. This means getting to the pool early with her best friend/cousin, get the perfect amount of blond in her hair, thanks to lemon juice and sunshine, and boys to flirt with. Everything is going great, and she even meets a NEW cute boy and tries the best soft pretzel she has ever had in her life!

Why can’t Cat get this pretzel out of her head? Now that she thinks about it…why does her mom hate cooking so much? Why don’t they ever have anything that isn’t carry out or delivery? Cat is about to set out on a very interesting journey in learning about magic and her family secret.

Cat returns in the next instalment of this series and now she has found out about what her family can do, she now sets off on a family road trip to find out the why and the how, so after the longest car ride in the world and a much needed power nap, they all arrive in the town in Arizona just in time for Thanksgiving, but there is still a week until then for Cat to get some answers to her all important questions.

However, these answers are not going to be as easy to get as Cat had hoped, but there is one good thing about having to work for her answers, she gets to bake! What she doesn’t enjoy is getting up before dawn to do it, though spending time with family, learning about new edible treats and honing her baking skills keep her going, especially when she hears about a bake off as the local bakeries in town have a showdown the day before thanksgiving, however things don’t go smoothly as suspicion abounds and emotions are flying all over the place, which adding in a reckless baking spree, Cat and Robyn discover that when baking and magic combine, it can have consequences nobody would expect.

Will Cat be able to get the answers to the bazillion questions rolling around in her head, or will this bake off become more of a recipe for disaster? This is a fun filled fantasy where magic and confectionary combine to provide some high jinx and low blows keep you hooked throughout, as do the characters and ideas inside.
