Jayne has been gone from Whispering Pines for a long time, what will she discover when she goes back? Going back to Whispering Pines is supposed to be relaxing and calming but when she arrives, she discovers a lot of things that make her cap instincts kick in. Will she have what it takes to use those instincts again or will Jayne read and paint while clearing out her grandparents estate? You’ll have to read Family Secrets (A Whispering Pines Mystery) by Shawn McGuire to find out for yourself.
This is a racing crime thriller, took me back to the days I was reading Grisham and Archer. Cady, a successful lawyer dreams big and is on the brink of reaching to the stars. She is about to become a partner in the law firm she works at. However , on a bike ride back home in the inner park, she faces a man with a nefarious intent and she ends up shooting him. Now faced with a possible murder charge she puts forward a case that she shot and killed him in self defence, which means “Standing her ground”. But will the police believe her? Can she retain her status or will everything be taken away from her? Will she win the case and avoid death sentence? This book is a racing thriller and keeps you hooked from beginning to end. I enjoyed reading it.

Logan and her group make quick work of their investigation into the death of the person found at New School. Although they are pretty sure one of their own didn’t do it, they must convince the real detectives of his innocence. When the true killer is revealed, you’d never believe who it is, or why they did it. A wicked twist at the very end keeps you on your toes. I great read that keeps you intrigued through the end. Highly recommend!!

Deadly Words by Meghan O’Flynn was a fast paced read, full of twists and turns. It is book 1 in the Born Bad series, and leaves me excited to read book 2. It is in a format that switches between Poppy as a child, living with her father Steven Pratt and Poppy as an adult, a doctor in the chiropractic field. This format allows the element of surprise at several points throughout the book. As a child, Poppy and her father were very close, and he fostered a love of fairies and building them homes, and had a series of relationships that ended abruptly. You can feel how much Poppy looks up to and adores Steven, and envision his wide shoulders and glittering eyes – you can almost hear his booming laugh and understand the depth of love this little girl had for her father. It also allows you a glimpse into the life she led both before and after she made a phone call that changed both of their lives forever.
As an adult, a chiropractor within a practice, you get a taste of being a woman in a male run business as well as meet one of Poppy’s only friends – her coworker, Monique. Monique adds a sense of humanity and warmth that you don’t find in most of the other characters of this book and makes you want to know her. Her love of bright colors and sense of camaraderie with Poppy put a smile on your face – and at the same time, you also get to see inside Poppy’s head while she is interacting with her fellow chiropractors, therapist, Monique and more. I love the first person, internal conversations she has with herself while mid conversation with others – it makes so many parts personally relatable, even if her thoughts are different than mine.
Poppy feels comfortable in her routine until a stranger, author and journalist Carson Price, shows up into her very private life, asking questions she isn’t comfortable answering beyond the information he has already dug up with his sources. There is a draw between the 2 of them that Poppy is unfamiliar with and cannot explain, but doesn’t want to run from. Carson drops a bomb very early on, making Poppy question his sanity – but it brings them closer, trying to solve the mystery he insists is happening and draws Poppy in further.
This book is very fast paced, and keeps you reading to find answers to the questions it keeps introducing, and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the Born Bad series. Will Poppy be able to help Carson solve the mystery he brings? Will she figure out the truth about Molly? What connections will she make, what memories will she have that prove to be clues to their past?

This is a really good crime Thriller than grips the reader and doesn’t let go. It covers a lot of issues that happen in this world, politics, ‘trial by media’ and racism.
Cady had her life working to the way she planned it. She had a successful career and was on her way to becoming partner in the law firm she works at. However that all changed in a split second decision.
That decision meant she took the life of a man. Now faced with a possible murder charge she uses her knowledge of the law to put forward a plea of standing her ground.
This plea means that she shot and killed him in self defence but will the police and the public believe that. Should Cady get away with this because of her status in the world or will they look to make an example out of her? This story is really enjoyable as we watch Cady’s fight to prove her case and save herself from a prison sentence for what she believes was self defense.

Oh my goodness, I am hooked. This mystery had me reading at every opportunity possible; then had the nerve to end on a cliffhanger! Thank goodness book two is out!
Jayne is everything I want to be, a total baddy, and even has the same insecurities as me too! I adore their little village and love the details of the quirky residents. I don’t personally know a lot about Wicca but I feel they did a great job describing it in a respectful manner.
If you enjoy paranormal and mystery than this is a series to read. This book is very well written and has an engaging plot and storyline. Knowing that this is the first book in a series, you expect there to be information overload and unanswered questions, but, McGuire’s smooth writing style does not make it overwhelming.
This is definitely a page turner book, and warning it does end in a cliffhanger; which makes you have to read the next book. There are 10 books in this series and I’m looking forward to reading them all!

This my first time read by this author, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Characters were original and well developed, and the story itself really drew you in the more you read. It was a true mystery that kept me guessing until the end, and the descriptions were very vivid and and easy to imagine. Jayne herself was a character who you had to warm up to, and once you got there you started to really like her. When Jayne returns to her old town to sell her grandparents lake house she is in for quite the surprise. The house is trashed and a body is in the back. With little help from the Sheriff she sets out to solve the issue herself, and as she gets closer she finds that someone does not want her to solve it, and things begin to unravel from there.

Whispering Pines sounds like a pretty great place to live. Full of misfits who are just looking to be accepted.
Jayne O’Shae is the main character. A former detective who travels to Whispering Pines to get her grandparents house ready to sell. That’s not at all what ends up happening. Upon her arrival, she finds a dead body and no cell service. When she tries to use the landline to call the local police, she finds her grandparents house has been vandalized.
Who was the dead person really? Were they murdered? Are witches and magic real? Did Jayne really come to Whispering Pines to get the house on the market? What else will she find?!
I felt Jayne was relatable and I loved Meeka, her dog. I loved her realistic apprehension towards Wicca and witches but the author did a great job of painting the reality behind those two things. I loved the small town vibe of Whispering Falls mixed with the mystery, drama, and scandal.
I will definitely be reading the 2nd book in this series- Kept Secrets.
This book grabbed my attention right from the start. A wonderful mystery thriller.
We meet our starring character Jayne as she approaches her late grandparents’ lake home in Whispering Pines. The action and suspense is immediately started from right there.
From small town locals to the social outcasts, this is one giant who done it.
Stand Your Ground by A.J. Ullman is a story full of suspense and intrigue. It keeps you guessing as to how things are going to turn out. The story had a great depth and thought about it. The author has delved into some very relevant issues and has dealt with them so well. The book is so yore thought provoking as you read through it. I expected at little bit more of a crime book when I read the blurb but I have to say I did enjoy this book overall. Another threat read by this brilliant author.

Family Secrets: A Whispering Pines Mystery by Shawn McGuire is a fantastic book that is full of twists and turns. I found myself hooked on this book as soon as I started reading. I loved the fact that it wasn’t just a mystery story, there were elements of fantasy in there too. The two combined made for a great story. I thought Jayne had such brilliant development throughout the book. It really felt like you got to know her character the more you read. As a new author to me I found I really connected with how the author wrote her story. This is a fantastic start to a series and I cannot wait for book 2!
This is an author that I have enjoyed from the first book I have picked up by this author. This is the seventh book in this series which I have enjoyed just as much as the previous books. I highly suggest reading the previous books but it is not necessary to enjoy this series. I enjoyed how the characters pulled me into the story from the beginning. This is a well written story that has twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. Logan is back in another page turning story. She is my favorite character and I enjoy what she brings to the story. She keeps the story engaging with her suspense and mystery. I had a hard time putting this book down. I enjoyed the growth of the plot throughout the story. It made for a fun, entertaining story. I highly recommend this book and this author.

Whisper Creek: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 7 by Valerie Davisson. This is the continuing story of Logan McKenna who has just accepted a ring from her boyfriend. She is so happy but scared at the same time. Logan has just recently had a video go viral of her singing and it could be her big break. Family Secrets (A Whispering Pines Mystery) by Shawn McGuire. This book was amazing! I loved every word of it. Its the story of Jayne who has returned to her hometown of Whispering Pines to her Grandparents house. She is in charge of cleaning out her grandparents house and selling everything. In the midst of doing that she uncovers all kinds of mysterious things and then a dead body is found in the back yard. When the cops show up they don’t seem that interested in doing a proper investigation so Jayne decides to do one on her own. While investigating Jayne discovers all kinds of things about her Grandmother including the fact she seems to have been a Wiccan. The whole town has a lot of Wiccan in it so its not totally surprising but still its her Grandmother. The dead woman has a tattoo that Wiccan’s have so more there is more to the mystery. Magic, wiccan’s and death can Jayne figure out the mystery before someone else dies?
Here we are on the seventh book Whisper Creek in the Logan McKenna Mystery Series by Valerie Davisson. This time our independent woman, Logan stumbles across another crime. This one is full of lies and deceit, secrets and murder and just might jeopardise her future. This tangled web Valerie has spun will keep you on your toes whilst on a race against time to protect those you love. I have said it before, but I will say it again with each book Valerie’s stories get better. It is filled with intrigue and drama, tension and suspense and danger. You never know where Valerie is going to take Logan next, and it is always and adventure to say the least.

Quaint, quirky and a little bit more This is a very different cozy mystery. The setting is a quaint town with a little bit of bizarre. I felt that I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. Jayne is likeable and also a bit on the quirky side. There was enough to keep my interest and I still have some unanswered questions – which makes me curious about book 2.

I just love love love Karina Cardinal mystery books from the ever talented Ellen Butler!! With every book in this series I find myself saying over and over these get better and better and I once again find myself saying that with Swindler’s Revenge. I was up way past my bedtime to read how Karina would get herself out of the mess she found herself in once again in this one. I just had to know. This one was so good I couldn’t read it in pieces so I dove in and found out and with every page I was more and more hooked into her story laughing and yelling at my kindle as the hubby stirred next to me and rolled his eyes at my excited reading. People these books are not ones that you want to miss if you love mystery, crime, drama, romance, suspense, laughter, travel, and so much more. Every time Butler takes you to a new place and on a new adventure that will make you feel as if you have slipped on your private investigator shoes and jumped right into the action yourself. I love it and I only cry when I read the very last page because it is over. This one brought us so many changes but I can’t bear to divulge them. This book took me a little under 2 weeks to read leisurely, but I could have devoured it in a day had I the time to do so. I’d give it 5 out of 5 stars. The characters are extremely well written, and all the interactions were believable and above all, relatable. The story follows a young woman who blows into town to close- up her grandmother’s estate after being gone since childhood after her passing. She soon realizes there’s more than meets the eye in this quaint little witchy town. As she finds her way through her own issues as well as some odd town dynamics that she comes across, she also meets some great people along the way. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series and seeing how the relationships flourish in the coming books. The storyline was believable and doesn’t end exactly the way you’d think it would- which I love. I wasn’t completely oblivious as to how the story would end but the ending was a good one and set future stories up very well. I think this is a series that will continue to get better and better. I’m really looking forward to reading where this storyline goes and what other interesting characters will be brought into the spotlight. Great, easy read that will have you hooked and keep you coming back to see what happens next. I look forward to reading more of your books Shawn McGuire, blessed be!

I truly loved this story. I had a hard time in the beginning to connect with Jayne. Though, as the story moved I really started liking her. She came to close on her grandma’s home after a rough couple of months she was ready for a much needed break. Though, she was met with chaos and a dead body. I adored the mystery with sprinkles of paranormal. The little town full of big secrets just sucks you in and doesn’t let go. Be prepared to be in it for the long haul. I know I am!!
Swindler’s Revenge is book 5 in the Karina Cardinal Mysteries series by Ellen Butler but for me it was the first book I have read not only in this series but by this wonderful author. I will definitely be finding more books by Ms Butler to read and back tracking to read the rest of this fun series. Even though I did started with the 5th book in this series and there was small references to other the books, my enjoyment of this book was in no way diminished by not having read the first 4 books. Would I recommend you read them first? Well yes I would but purely because if they are anything like this book you will absolutely love them and not because it is needed to enjoy this book.
Karina Cardinal is a vivacious, fun and spirited character whose talented for unintentionally finding trouble has once again found her in the middle of a mystery she just can’t leave alone. When her Ex Boyfriend, FBI agent Mike Finnegan, is accused of a serious crime, she just knows right from the start that he is innocent. With help from the gorgeous and very serious Rick Donovan and his team at Silverthorne she will do all she can to prove just that.

I love a good cliffhanger. This book was an amazing mystery to me. The characters were beautifully developed. I could not put it down. I wanted to find out more. I love how I felt like I was there, like I was right beside the characters and could feel what they felt. I will definitely be finding out what happens next.

I adored this book! I really wanted to meet everyone! Meeka was adorable and I wanted to be her friend. I wanted to have the opportunity to walk around the town and meet all the people, and try the cookies! Tripp made me smile and Morgan intrigued me. The conflict was relatable and I really just generally wanted to find answers for her. I really just wanted to know everybody and be a part of Whispering Pines.

This book wasn’t what I expected at all. I mean it wasn’t horrible, but just didn’t keep my attention like I thought it would. It did have suspense and crime in it, just as not as much as I liked.

This book is everything I thought it would be. It has the perfect amount of suspense and crime in it. I would highly recommend this to all my friends. Wow! Karina has some jacked-up things going on in her life. Good thing she has friends like Rick at Silverthorne to help her. After having the FBI roust her apt and, tada, plant bugs after thinking her ex would contact her after “stealing 1.2 million dollars,” she starts on a big mystery to figure out what is going on. She unravels threads which lead her in this direction to that direction to some of the big deals in D.C. and the walls come down…over what? Can’t tell ya. You’ll have to read the book. I promise you won’t be disappointed. This was a ‘suck me in from the start’ and ‘I couldn’t put it down until the end’ book. So much action and characters that you really enjoy because they feel 3D and like they are part of the action. The whole story is so well done that it just flows smoothly together. That is so rare nowadays that it is a treat to get a story that runs like that. I highly recommend this one.
