Unfortunately, the prime suspects of the murder are friends of Logan’s.
The fact that their prime suspects were friends of Logan’s was a complete shock.
I really enjoyed this novel and I love this series. I get excited when I see that another novel has been released.
It has been great seeing the progressive of Logan’s character and the mysteries that she solves. Even the lengths she will go.

This series has seriously become one of my favorite series ever! I think this one might be my favorite, I say might because it changes every time I read one! This author already sits up in my favorites and when a new release comes out it’s just automatic no matter the title, the synopsis or the cover, if it has her name..It’s an auto one click!
You could read all of these as standalones. Although I couldn’t imagine not having all of the books read in order to get the full effect. Especially this one, as I believe you would feel like you’re missing something. Also the connection to many of the characters truly needs to be made and understood to fully appreciate this story.
Miss Butler never stops making me smile and many times laugh out loud with Karina’s antics, and I’ve mentioned many times how I’d love to be her friend and partner in solving these mysteries she keeps falling into. I connected to her in the first book and absolutely love her!
The story kept me guessing and there were times I was so far off base I just laughed at myself.
I can not recommend this series and this book high enough and I can not wait to start at the beginning and read them all over again in the future!

This is my first book by this author and I was pleasantly surprised. It was amazing. I loved how I was engaged from the very beginning. I could not put it down. Truly a page turner. I found myself lost in this book while trying to find out what was going to happen next.

Stand Your Ground I enjoyed this book. Cady has a lot to lose in this race against time and crime itself in this murder mystery/thriller. There is suspense with some typical triggers of things such as BLM movement and Cady has to stand her ground and try to fight against her status being stripped from her. The question is will she be able to? Is this typical white privilege? Is this even about white privilege or is there more to the story going on and can she hold her own against the world? Read on and find out.

Stand Your Ground is a suspense filled crime thriller by A.J Ullman. I have read and enjoyed his books in the past, so I looked forward to reading this one. It had a bit of a John Grisham Law and Order feel to it. I like the way it was told, starting out with the main character Cady shooting someone. We don’t really know the back story yet, and it slowly unwinds as the book progresses. I felt that was a good way to tell the story, because it gripped us from the beginning and got us hooked and wanting to know more. Then we were led through a wild ride of discovery and interviews wanting to know if Cady would be tried for murder or if it was justified self defense. There are always secrets or skeletons in the closet on these cases, and it was unrolled at a good pace. My main complaint is the story seemed filled with a lot of rambling fluff. Cady had a lot of analogies and tangents she would go off on, which seemed to take away from the action of the actual story. The book is very current, referencing BLM, George Floyd, #metoo, and being “woke.” It did not end as I expected in the beginning. Cady did not turn out to be what I thought she was, but I liked that it was not all known from the beginning. It kept the sense of mystery.

I love the element of surprise from the beginning to the end. The rabbit hole this sends you down, you’ll be more than happy where this book ends. The mystery and suspense will leave you mesmerized: This is entertaining, witty, and full of wonderful characters to make this read enjoyable.

I give Swindler’s Revenge by Ellen Butler, 5 stars. **This review may contain spoilers from previous books in the series.**
I constantly forget just how good this series is until I get into the next book. I swear, each book gets better and better. Each story is unique but still stays within the realm of the series. This book being about stolen money was interesting, especially when the suspect is someone we know. There are many twists and turns, keeping us on our toes and wondering just who all is involved.
Karina, as always, is yet again a great main character. She goes all out for those she cares about, jumping in head first to solve this. I also like the direction this series is heading and focusing more on the Silverthorne group. They have been my favorite since we first met them and really help define this series. We need to see much more of all of them in the future.
If you are a fan of intense mysteries with spectacular characters, this book and series are definitely for you. It can be read as a standalone, but the whole series is definitely worth your time.

Okay well I’m going to start off by saying this book definitely has “trigger warning” potential. Stand your Ground by A.J. Ullman is definitely a story that currently goes with the narrative of this country’s current narrative. In saying that I struggled getting through the book. It was definitely a trigger warning for me but I still pushed on. Cady, a lawyer, who is on the verge of making partner at her law firm. Chooses to ride her bike home rather late from work. When she makes it to Jefferson Park, she runs into the one person who has silently threatened her, Mingo. Next thing she knows is her clip is empty and Mingo is dead. Cady decides to “stand your ground” stating it was self defense because she feared for her life. Does she get arrested? Does her “stand your ground “ explanation hold up? Back to the trigger warning, though not a member of law enforcement, this is a story about a “white woman” showing up in an offbeat neighborhood shooting and killing a “black man.” Despite the person Mingo is, the public is screaming for his justice due to “white privilege.” As someone who stands behind the “black lives matter” movement, to get equal rights no matter the skin color and educate those about the prejudices that they face on a daily basis. It rubbed me the wrong way coming up in a book of fiction. That being said, character development was fantastic. As well as the book itself was well written. I just didn’t care for that aspect. I feel like there’s more to this movement than what can be presented by 1 person, in a book of fiction no less.

I have a soft spot for murder mystery novels, and this one had everything I adore: a stereotypical crime, a number of possible suspects that keeps the reader guessing, a clueless hero/heroine, a sassy cop, & finally a great tied together ending that explains everything that the reader had been piecing together themselves. It was perfect, from the amount of detail included to the amount of foreshadowing left for the reader to imagine their own conclusions!
The character interactions between Detective Overstreet and Lauren were positively scrumptious. I kept hoping that there would be a romance side to the story and I wasn’t disappointed, it was subtle but it was there and I loved the undertones of the interactions as they unfolded.
This story was made all the better because I have family in Wyoming, where the book is based, and it all felt like I was home. The author’s descriptions were spot on, while also not focusing too overly much on detail. It made it feel all very natural!

As if she could simply conceal one in her small apartment. Particularly one by the name of Mike Finnegan. A few months ago, the two of them dubbed it Splitsville, but Mike? Accept a bribe of $1.2 million? No and no, respectively. Regardless of how much proof the feds claim to have.
When a strange burner phone appears in Karina’s pocket, she has no doubts about who put it there. Mike is deep underground and so far off the grid that he requires assistance in determining who is framing him and why. Karina does what she does best: she dives in with both feet, oblivious to the hazards. What’s the problem with leaping before looking? You have the option of landing on a planet of dirt. I loved this story and the concept of it as well. I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting. This is the first book by this author and I can’t wait to read more.

Swindler’s Revenge (Karina Cardinal Mysteries Book 5) by Ellen Butler. I LOVED this book. I read it in one sitting! Its the story of Karina Cardinal or KC to her friends. Karina is minding her own business for once and watching tv when someone pounds on her door. Its the FBI and they are demanding to know where her ex boyfriend Mike is and she is trying to tell them she doesn’t know. Mike Finnegan is her ex boyfriend and even though they aren’t together she knows he needs her help. Mike didn’t like Karina getting involved in all these situations but now he’s more interested because it involves him. Mike knows someone is out to frame him but he has no idea who or why? They are accusing him of embezzling millions of dollars and Karina knows he didn’t do that. While she is investigating she gets herself into problem after problem but that is just normal for Karina! This book can be read as a standalone but its so much better if you read them in order!

Silent Gavel is the first instalment in the Crawford Mystery series and debut novel by Merissa Racine. This is an intriguing crime and investigation story- a murder mystery with suspense, danger, action, drama, and interesting characters. Lauren Besoner left her old life behind for a fresh start. She found a job as the local court stenographer and her life seemed to be getting back on track. But then a judge is murdered, and Lauren finds herself under the spotlight as the prime suspect… looks like she’s going to have to figure it all out herself, before she is pinned with the crime. But a few complications spring up- bringing danger into the mix. Will she figure everything out and avoid further complications, or worse? You really will need to read all the intriguing details for yourself. Looking forward to seeing what the next book in the series has in store for us.

This is the first book I have read from this author and wow she blew my mind. I have not read a mystery story in a long time and I’m so happy I read this one. This is the first book in the Crawford Mystery series and it was a perfect book to start an addictive series. I started to read this book and I could not put it down. It only took me a little over a day to devour this story.
Lauren Besoner is finally ready to go home and start a new life. Her marriage fell apart and now she wants to start off as a new woman. Lauren gets a job that she is so excited for. She is the new stenographer in her hometown in Wyoming. Lauren doesn’t want any more drama in her life so she concentrates on her job. One morning she goes to pick up a judge that she is starting to like only to find her murdered in the house. Lauren doesn’t know what to do because she has answered all the questions but they keep on blaming her for a murder she did not do. She starts her own investigation but is she going to find the person before they find her?

While I think this book has potential, the character development is lacking and I found the characters unrelatable. I can see the great crime story the author is trying to portray, however the book itself felt unfinished and jumped around too much. Lacking a lot of details that would normally allow me to relate to characters.

Whisper Creek: A Logan McKenna Mystery by Valerie Davisson is the seventh book in the Logan McKenna series. This is a series that really does need to be read in order as it follows the same main characters all the way through. This book is yet another great addition to this series. Immediately you are pulled right back into Logan and her world. It is always so good to pick up where you left off with her, and so easy to go fall into the rhythm of the story. I honestly don’t know how the author does it. Even seven books into the series and she still keeps everyone of them as fresh and new as the first. For me I think it shows the strength of her writing that I am just as excited about the seventh book as I am all the others. This is a great story that I would recommend.

This is book seven in the ‘Logan McKenna Mystery’ series and having read and enjoyed all of the previous books I was looking forward to this latest novel and was not disappointed. It was great being back with the heroine of the stories, Logan, who now feels like an old friend. Logan and Ben our now engaged and Logan has made an unexpectedly profitable music video with the help of her students, which has gone viral. Whilst visiting Oregon on a consulting gig Logan is distracted worrying that the video and the money will effect her relationship with Ben, but she soon has other things to worry about when she stumbles upon a dead body.
When her friends turn out to be the prime suspects, Logan investigates to protect them and discover the true murderer. However with four suspects, endless motives, false accusations and a web of lies Logan has her work cut out to discover the truth and prevent further killings. As usual this is a real page turner which had me hooked from page one. The exciting storyline has plenty of plot twists that kept me guessing until the end. I love Logan and she is a great main character who is very relatable and who really brings the story together. I like the dynamic between her and Ben and the romance element this brings to the story. This is a suspenseful story which had me happily turning the pages well into the night, and I definitely recommend this engaging and enjoyable read.

This is the seventh book in the Logan McKenna series and they just keep getting better and better. I have read these books from the first one and it’s been amazing to see Logan blossom and transform throughout the series. Logan’s life seems to be on an even keel now. Her job is going well, she is engaged to Ben and everything seems good in the world. However trouble always seems to find Logan.
Firstly a video her student makes of her music goes viral making her a wealthy woman, but Logan is concerned about how this will affect her relationship with Ben. Will he be supportive or will it come between them
Secondly on her trip for work she stumbles across a dead body. With her friends looking like the prime suspects she now needs to use her skills as an investigator to solve this case before the murderer strikes again.
This book is action packed and has so much depth with the relationships Logan has with Ben and her friends. You get dragged into Logan’s world and you aren’t let go until the end. I can’t wait to see what will happen next

If you are a fan of mystery and suspense, then look no further than this book Silent Gavel which is the first book in the Crawford Mystery duo by Merissa Racine. This quick read is a cross between is a ‘whodunit’ cozy mystery and thriller. The plot is full of suspense and intrigue, and I was so engrossed that before I knew it, I was at the end. I enjoyed the originality of the story and the characters, well most of them. Merissa incorporates her knowledge of being a court reporter and infused it as part of the story.
Lauren is in a fight for her freedom, but can she solve the case without ruffling too many feathers and landing herself with a life sentence?

Swindler’s Revenge is the fifth book in the Karina Cardinal Mysteries series by Ellen Butler. This series keeps getting better and better as they continue. Karina is on the hunt again. This time to help her ex, Mike, out of the trouble he is in with the FBI. This series can be read as standalones, but I highly recommend they be read in order to get the full effect of the backstory. I absolutely adore the way Ms. Butler injects a bit of humor into her stories. This one had me laughing out loud at the same time guessing how it was going to end. I have only recently began to love mysteries, but its books like this that keep me interested. This book was fast paced, and unexpected. Action, suspense, intrigue, drama, and even some humor were just some of the tidbits wrapped up in this cozy mystery. This was book #5 so I have to backtrack to the first 4 because I can only imagine they were as good as this one. The book begins with the FBI searching Karina’s home for her ex-boyfriend Michael who they believe has stolen $1.2 Million and then went offshore to the Cayman Islands. Karina immediately finds that information disturbing and uncharacteristic of the Michael she knows. As the story unfolds from there Karina is contacted by Mike and true to her belief finds that he was possibly framed, and he needs her help. As Karina, Mike, and the FBI race to uncover the truths the plot keeps thickening and of course keeps you guessing. This fun read is a must if you have not.

Swindlers Revenge, by Ellen Butler is the 5th book in the Karina Cardinals series. This is the first book in this series I have read but I will be definitely going back to read the other books in the series. When FBI agents knock on Karina’s door looking for her ex-boyfriend Mike, who has allegedly stolen $1.2 million from the government, she knows that she needs to investigate it further. Utilising her skills and contacts in private security she is determined to help undercover the plot, especially since the FBI and IRS are following her. When Mike eventually makes contact she is even more determined to help clear his name. This was a really enjoyable novel, Karina is a strong woman who knows what she wants. I really liked the dynamic between the different characters and how they may continue growing in the future.

One of my favorite things about reading crime novels is that they often can be very believable and immersible if they are written well. Stand Your Ground by AJ Ullman just happens to be one of the best written crime thrillers that I have read in a long time and it is so believable and relatable to the time that we are all living in that I felt so transported I almost expected to turn on the news and see this crime and the characters on the tv. It was gripping and breathtaking at times how real it felt and I loved every single moment of it. I will be reading this novel again and recommending it to several friends and family members who I know will also be loving this story just as much. Ullman has done a fabulous job of taking a difficult topic, well several, and molded them with deep story lines and well formed characters that are strong and believable that you will be unsure who to root for and who to fall in love with at times. I can’t say enough good things about this book. Go one-click today, you won’t be sad you did!

I give Whisper Creek: A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 7 (Logan McKenna Series) by Valerie Davisson, 4 stars.
This is the first book that I have read in this series. I really enjoyed it and am interested in going back to read the previous books. The setting, a murder happening during a faculty talent show, is different and interesting. The list of suspects is varied and longer than you first expect. The author does a great job of setting it up and dropping clues here and there, you are constantly wondering who really did it. The characters are great too. Logan is a great main character, who just wants to find out who did it to help her friends. The other characters are each unique and you sympathize with each and every one — even the suspects.
This is a gripping murder mystery that held and surprised me until the end. I highly recommend it.

So I was really sucked into this book as it was written in a way that just grips you. I felt like I was right there with Cady and experiencing all she was. I will say that I did NOT expect what happened towards the end so wow and bravo to the author there.
Theres really no words to describe this book, its just an experience you have to read.

This is a crime and investigation story with murder, mystery, drama, secrets, suspense, dramatic developments, danger, and tension. This series is definitely getting better the further into it I get. With this the seventh book, our leading lady Logan has been through quite a lot, but don’t expect her to get a reprieve any time soon. Even away from home, trouble never seems far behind. When a murder lands her friends firmly in the spotlight as prime suspects, Logan will have her work cut out for her in order to protect her friends and get to the bottom of things and uncover the culprit before the murderer can strike again. Wonder what Ms. Davisson has in store for us next?

I fell in love with this book provided from page one! The author really knew how to get the readers interested in what they were reading and setting up the man story line. I kept on reading and I must say, I really got into this one, it was very well written!
I loved the author’s concept behind everything in the words that came from the pages here. Logan was a wonderful character. She was a very relatable, but also someone that stood out from the rest. I loved how she wanted only the truth, but yet to protect everyone around her. In honesty, would her need for the truth be her downfall? That was something I constantly asked myself as I was reading. For me, what I also loved was what I thought could be a suspected truth to what was going on, well I was actually way off. There was a lot of things going on and and it really kept me on the edge my my seat!
I really loved the work of this wonderful author. They did a wonderful hob and wrote a very captivating story. I truly had a lot of fun and enjoyment while reading and I look forward to reading more from them in the future. If your a die hard mystery or crime fan, I highly recommend you picking this book up!

I enjoyed this suspenseful story. This is my first book by this author which I look forward to seeing what is next for her. I found this book to be well written with characters that not only bring the story to life but also kept it engaging. I enjoyed being pulled into the story by the author’s use of details. The twists and turns kept me guessing and wanting to see what would happen next. The characters are not only relatable but how they contributed to the growth of the plot throughout the story. This is a story about Lauren and how she takes a new courtroom job that turns deadly. She is running from the past and goes home to take on this new job. Problem is now, she is faced with being accused of killing the judge. What happens next you will want to read this book. You don’t want to miss this book, it is a great story full of action and hard to put down. I highly recommend this book.

I must preface this review in first stating that I absolutely loved this book. The character development is well thought out with Jayne’s family dynamic being something we have all experienced at one point or another in our lives. This book starts out right away with action after Jayne and Meeka her wonderfully trained furry companion end up finding a body on the grounds of her recently deceased grandparents’ property. That is not the only surprise waiting for her when she arrives with the intent to clean stuff up to sell the homestead. Unfortunately, the sheriff doesn’t seem to inclined to investigate the murder on the grounds so Jayne opts to tackle this mystery on her own, after all it is in her blood as a former detective. As Jayne goes about investigating the murder, she learns certain things about her family history that she never knew. Along the way she meets a cast of unique characters and some opposition to her solving just what happened. Some secrets are not meant to be uncovered is this one of them? Can Jayne figuring out what happened, or will she find herself in trouble herself? This is one book you must read; I know I have already purchased the next few books in the series because I love Whispering Pines!
