Excellent book! I really enjoyed this book and became completely lost in the story. My heart shattered for Sam, losing her husband and son which left her all alone, it seemed like her family really didn’t care. I was really hoping her son Thomas’s girlfriend, Velvet, got the punishment she deserved, if she was the one who killed her son. But it seems as though Thomas was not living the best life he could have been living. I loved watching Sam reconnect with some of Thomas’s old friends, them helping her in all ways possible and Micah asking her to join his group. I was intrigued to watch her form bonds with the 3 others in the group as well as Micah. I felt like maybe there was romantic feels on Micah’s part for Sam, I would really like to see a second book following along with the groups missions and lives. I really look forward to reading more from this author.

I am familiar with this author having read some of her books previously, so I knew I was going to enjoy this one as well. She did not disappoint. It was as interesting and intriguing as I expected it to be. Like most of her books, she slowly draws you into the book but then she gets you hooked, and you don’t want to put it down. And that happened to me again. She has such a way of writing her books with mystery and intrigue and her characters are wonderful. She truly has an amazing knack for telling thrillers. And this one had me hanging on the edge of my seat and left me shocked with the ending. If you are into thrillers then you must read this one.
When you are a lost soul, but a discovery of a journal may literally set your world on fire and you uncover secrets that should have been buried.
Jamieson is a lonely lost soul, wondering through life with no real feeling of love. His mother is working two jobs to try and keep their head above water which means not mush quality time with her son. Jamieson’s father is absent from an early age but when he finds a hidden journal in the attic which belong to his father he becomes interested in this side of his life, but at the end will this be health or will it awake the monster within.
Pete is wandering along in life, although he has a loving wife and children there is something missing from his world and he becomes fed up with his life and marriage. But, one day can change your whole life and choices you make will haunt him for his whole life.
If you are wanting a light easy read, I would stay away from this book. The way the author draws you into the dark worlds of both characters is a joy to read. This is the first book I have read by this author and was anticipating as usual the questions of will I enjoy the story, writing etc but OMG this was thrilling from the first works written to the last.
I loved the slow burn of the story and my emotions feeling a little sad for the character of Jamieson but as the story delves more into his life you become so invested in trying to discover the twist and turns, I could not put the book down.
I can’t read more books by this author and I would recommend this book as a true thriller and thank you L A Detwiler for captivating book.

Jessica Aiken-Hall is an outstanding writer, leaving you wondering what is going to happen next. This book is a page turner and makes you feel as though you should not put it down without finishing the entire book. Halfway through the book, Aiken-Hall gives you enough details to patch along some of the mystery, as does Molly so you are on the roller coaster of emotion with her. I gave this book a shot out of the dark, not knowing whether I would like it or not, because I have not always liked the way some writers have written but this author does not disappoint. The anger, the lies, the fear, the agony, and the stench of betrayal? Who can Molly truly trust? Give this book a shot!

This story is full of suspense and keeps you on your toes and you just want to keep reading more in order to find out what happens next.
House in the woods by Jessica Aiken-Hall is a story about a 19 year old girl Molly Jackson who is finishing her second year of college looking forward to a relaxing summer. Her mom has dementia and when she goes missing Molly’s whole world gets turned upside down when she finds a flyer of a missing girl who looks exactly like her. Why has Molly never heard of this girl? Why do they look so much alike? What doesn’t she know?
Throughout the story so much is uncovered that Molly never expected to find out. What truths can she handle and what truths can she not? Every page is so beautifully scripted that you can’t stop reading. I sat down and read it all at once because I just couldn’t put it down. Give it a read to figure out what big secrets Molly finds out.

Attention-grabbing pager-turner! This is a great standalone read by Aiken-Hall. As with others I’ve read of hers, she entices the reader with a well-developed storyline and likable characters that keep you turning the page until the very end. I love a good mystery and this story oozes mystery and intrigue. Though I had a good idea where the story was going, I couldn’t wait to see how it would all unfold.
Molly finds herself in the middle of a mystery, just like all of Datelines she enjoys watching. We follow along with Molly, her family, and new friends as they unravel a decades long mystery that just may change all of their lives for good!
I highly recommend House in the Woods to anyone who likes a good, thrilling mystery!

The Arsonist’s Handbook – so not a fun happy read. Author does a wonderful job of conveying the thoughts of her characters – actually so well it’s hard to read. I felt like I was in someone else’s head most of the book. No doubt, freaked me out a few times. An excellent read for someone who likes a psychological thriller. This was a read by an author I have never read before, and honestly, I didn’t know what to expect. However, I was hooked from the first page, often find myself missing out on sleep just to read more of this book. The characters are wonderfully developed and so well thought out that at time this was a hard read just because it was so real. You follow Jameson who is trying to connect to the author of a book he finds in the attic and his journey through several revelations and uncovered secrets. Then there’s Pete and coming to terms with his marriage falling apart, having an affair, and a great tragedy that turns his world upside down. Will revenge be enough to help him move forward? Or will it send him spiraling down a dark path? There were so many twists and turns in this book that leave you guessing on how everything might end. It was very easy to get lost in the lives of these characters and become invested in each of their stories. Will anyone come out unscathed? You’ll have to read the book to find out but it is definitely worth it!

I loved this story and the concept of it as well.I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting. I can’t wait and read more from this author
This book is such an amazing read! I love how the author pulls you in and keeps you wanting more! Jessica Aiken-Hall does a great job with plot twist and I love it! You never see the twists coming that she has in store for you. Molly needs to know why she looks so much like the girl on the flyer. And why didn’t her brother tell her about her? As Molly digs deeper and presses for answers she uncovers way more than she can ever imagine! I so look forward to reading more by Jessica Aiken-Hall. This is the third book I’ve read by her and have yet to be disappointed! She definitely knows how to write!

Wow, this book is totally a MUST READ!! There were so many twists and turns and this is the type of book that you could not put down. The story totally sucked me in from the very beginning and I did not want it to end. Molly is a college student whom also lives at home due to her mother’s dementia. Her mother goes missing off and on …but there is definitely mystery on why she goes wondering off. Also, when Molly discovers a flier of a missing girl from 20 years ago, this really opens up and you find so many similarities between Molly and the missing girl. Who was this girl and what happened to her? Molly Jackson is a young woman who has just finished her second year of college and is enjoying taking a break over summer, but she cannot enjoy herself too much because she has to look after her mum who has been diagnosed with Dementia and often forgets things and sometimes gets lost, but her dad has no patience with her and so it is often left to Molly to deal with everything while he just gets angry and complains, it leads to her feeling that she doesn’t belong in the family, that she is too different and it saddens her sometimes. As she is managing the pressure of daily life, her mum disappears from the house again, so she reaches out to her older brother to come down and help her look since her mum has been gone much longer than normal. While Molly is out searching for her mum, she passes the school and watches the preparations for this years graduation ceremony, but she spots a flyer on the notice board which she hasn’t seen before, it is about a search for a missing person, but she is shocked to find that they have been missing for twenty years and that the person in the picture looks startlingly like her.
After a few hours,Molly’s dad calls her and tells her that he has found her mum safe and sound and that she needs to get home as soon as she can, when she does, she immediately hugs her mum and tells her how worried she was before taking her into the garden with a cup of tea to sit by her favourite flowers, she takes the chance of her dad not being around to ask where her mum was, but she is evasive and doesn’t answer directly, apart from saying something about a “house in the woods”, any further conversation is cut off by her dad demanding lunch, which partially goes to plan until her mum forgets what she is doing and almost burns it. Later that evening, her brother turns up after driving most of the day to get there, but Molly realises that she forgot to tell him their mum was home, so he comes in to see her. She is happy to see him, but unfortunately, their dad isn’t so happy.
With her brothers arrival, Molly realises that she doesn’t really know that much about him and that since he moved away before she was born, she hasn’t had the chance because of the years which pass between his scarce visits, but now he is back in their hometown, she is going to use the opportunity to do just that and get to know him a bit more, but instead of staying with them, he decides to stay at the local motel as he cannot get on with their dad at all. She gets ready and goes to meet her brother, when she arrives he is on the phone and looking a bit upset, it turns out that he had been in contact with one of his friends about their twenty year reunion, seeing if he wants to go and whether he wants to meet up with them beforehand, this is where Molly asks if it has anything to do with the flyer she saw, this shocks her brother when he realoses who she is talking about and they decide to go and join in the search together after he tells her about the girl and their past. It turns out that they were college sweethearts but that she disappeared from a party and wasn’t seen again and her brother still tortures himself about it all this time later.
When they head to the search and find out where they will be starting and who will be there, things start to get a bit unnerving for Molly, this feeling only deepens as she becomes more involved and hears more about the girl and what happened, this combined with her mum disappearing again leaves Molly struggling to make sense of everything. Will she be able to help solve the mysteries of both the missing girl and where her mum keeps disappearing to, or will the things she finds out on the way cause her to worry more than before? This is a thrilling search for answers with plenty of twists, turns and secrets to keep you guessing the conclusion all the way to the end.

I was hooked from page one by this gripping crime thriller and was kept guessing until the very last page. Having finished her second year of college Molly Jackson is spending the summer looking after her Mum who has dementia. Molly has to ask her brother Marc for help when their mother goes missing. Whilst searching Molly finds a twenty year old flyer for a missing woman who looks uncannily like herself. Molly can’t shake the feeling that there is more to this women’s disappearance than what has being reported and she also wants to find out why she feels such a strong connection to the missing women, Lucy. As Molly tries to uncover the truth she discovers that Marc and Lucy were high school sweethearts, and as more clues are solved Molly realises that she might not be ready to accept the truth. However, she is determined to solve the mystery before it’s to late. The storyline is fast paced and action packed with plenty of plot twists which had me reading well into the night as I could not put this book down. I felt completely immersed in the story due to the authors descriptive narrative and I felt engaged with the characters, especially Molly who’s sheltered upbringing and innocence came across in the writing making her a particularly likeable character. I was left thinking about the story long after I had finished reading this book and for me that is always a sign of a great read!

The Arsonist’s Handbook is a psychological thriller by L.A. Detwiler.
I was a little unsure before reading this book, as it’s not usually a genre I pick out, but I’m so glad I did as once I started reading I couldn’t put it down. This was my first time reading anything by this author, but it won’t be my last. I loved the style of writing that brought this story to life. I thought the journal style of writing was well suited here. As with a lot of psychological thrillers, this book will keep you guessing throughout….nothing is straightforward and it can mess with your head a little. There is a lot of tragedy and dark times in the story, which can be hard to read at times and certainly makes it a somewhat “heavy” read, but I’m not sure what else a story of this nature could ever be. This is the type of book you will be thinking about long after finishing it.
This book did not disappoint one bit! If you like thrillers and edge-of-your-seat reads, then this is the book for you! This was my first by Jessica but it won’t be my last! Molly is just an easy-going college student. After finishing her second year of university all she wants to do is enjoy her summer, except that she can’t leave her mom alone because she wanders off and gets lost due to her dementia. One of the times her mom goes missing Molly enlists the help of her older brother and while out searching she sees a missing poster for a woman from 20 years ago. As you read the book you discover the similarities between this missing woman and Molly and follow along with how Molly uncovers secrets from the past and how she discovers those around her may not be who she believes they are. Jessica did a fantastic job of making the reader feel like they were right there with Molly. It is not too often I read a book in 2 sittings, but this was one of those books! I couldn’t put it down! I got sucked in from the beginning and was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out the mystery of whom this missing woman was and the connection she had to Molly! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading thrillers! This is one of my favourite genres and I have to say it is one of the best thrillers I’ve read and I have read a lot! The book flows well and includes all the details you need and a great twist (that I did not see coming!) at the end! If I could have given this book 6 stars I gladly would have!

This book kept me on my toes, just when I thought that there couldn’t be more to happen, it would take a turn to something else. The little gleams into the character’s past too was amazing into who and why they were, I really enjoyed that part. Hunter a former US marshal, who does everything in his power to save these teenagers that are trying to be taken by a crazy mad man, that doesn’t care about anything but his own personal gains. The sick twisted way that this mad man was written was so amazing it made me want to hate him, whenever he was in the book. I enjoyed the roles of the women in this book as while, R. Weir wrote these women as kicking butt and then taken names, I loved how they would fight and stand for who and what they wanted. The twists and turns in this book really had me guessing and wondering what could happen now and it was hard to put down. If a book 2 will be written I will for sure be grabbing it, and if it becomes a movie…….

The book was so engaging from the first chapter that I read it in two sittings. Don’t pick it up if you want to get anything else done! You can feel the bewilderment and confusion from the main character, Molly, as her life, as she knew it, unraveled. Molly endures a roller coaster of emotion throughout the tale of betrayal and love. It goes to show that life behind closed doors is not always as it seems. I enjoyed it so much, I’ve already downloaded another couple of books by this author! I HIGHLY recommend this one!

I enjoyed this suspenseful thriller. This is a new author for me and I look forward to seeing more from them in the future. This is a well written story about a murderer and having her story being told. Allison has been picked to write this murderers story but she doesn’t realize that the details are closer to her than what she ever thought. This was such a great story that I had a hard time putting it down. The characters brought the story to life on each page and just made the story entertaining to read. The twists and turns had me sitting on the edge of my seat. Great growth and I highly recommend reading this book.

Molly is looking after her mother but when she goes missing, Molly stumbles on more than just a missing mother.
Molly has decided to look after her mother who has recently been diagnosed with dementia but one day as her mother escapes and is missing, Molly decides to find her.
when Molly has enrolled the help of her brother they stumble across a flyer of another missing woman which peaks Molly’s interest to find both woman, but as the investigation goes along will Molly ever regret getting involved or will see carry on to uncover the crimes.
This book had me captured from the first word written to the last, the mystery draws you to try and figure out the clues with each turn of the page. Molly’s character is tenacious with the determination that she is going to find these woman even though with each discovery it draws her further into the danger.
I also love the chemistry with in the writing of these characters and they compliment each other brilliantly. The story is well written and weaves through the mystery without making it to hard to follow the breadcrumbs which are neatly placed to drive the story.
This is not the first book I have read by this author and as all her books are brilliant masterpieces, I recommend you read all you can find from her as you will not have a bad book among them. I can’t wait for the next book. Thank you.

This was a thrilling read that pulled me right in from the beginning. I had a late night with this book since I couldn’t put it down.
Hunter gets involved in a case that dredges up people from his past. What he doesn’t know is that the person has a reason why he is using these specific people. It is someone seeking revenge on Hunter, but why?
Can Hunter find them before it is too late?
Overall this was an edge of your seat read, I couldn’t wait to see what was coming next. We get so much in this read your head will be spinning, danger, mystery and so much more. All of the characters added a great element to the story. We get several twists and turns. I will warn that there are some scenes that may cause triggers for some. I look forward to reading more from this author and series.

There are so many books that I would have passed up if I judged them by their covers. That didn’t happen with this book, I saw the cover and immediately decided to give an author I had never read before a chance to hook me. Well, I was hooked, and this is one of those books where you have no clue until you dive in and start reading. The book is about Molly who is a college student at home to take care of her mom because she has dementia. She finds a flyer about a missing girl who has been missing for 20 years and realizes the girl looks just like her. The world turns upside down for Molly and every page brings more mystery. The moment I thought I had it all figured out there was another question to answer! Jessica Aiken-Hall did a great job with the characters of this book and gave them each a personality and that is easily relatable. If you like a good mystery you will want to read this book, and be prepared to not want to put it down.

This is a very dark psychological Thriller and one I really enjoyed. I love how deep the author gets into the mind of both Jameson and Pete. The author does an amazing job of opening up their minds and their worlds to us so we can walk in their shoes and experience their thoughts, feelings and drive that makes them behave and react in the way they do.
Jameson is a 16 year old boy who has grown up with his mother. His father left when he was young and Jameson knows little about it. His mother works 2 jobs and has very little time to provide him with emotional support. They are more like strangers than family. When Jameson finds a journal left by his father he discovers his father was an arsonist and awakens a part of him he didn’t know existed. Is he destined to be a arsonist like his dad? Will him turning into one bring his dad home?
Pete is a man stuck in a rut. He has a beautiful house, beautiful child and wife but he isn’t happy. One night while his wife is away and his son is left with the babysitter disaster strikes and his son dies. Overwhelmed with grief Pete takes it upon himself to find out who is responsible for his sons death and the fire that destroyed his life. Is Jameson connected to this fire? Is it Jamesons dad? Can Pete survive the guilt and grief and stay strong enough to get justice for his son?
What a tangled web we weave! Wow this story is all engrossing! It really kept me turning those pages. This has characters that made me go “Ewww”! And others that I just couldn’t understand their mindset. But they made the story entertaining.
This is a first time author for me and I enjoyed her thrilling story. I was grossed out a time or two and I thank for author for not being too graphic. She stuck to the main focus of the story instead of veering off. I will keep an eye out for more from this author

The Arsonists Handbook by L.A. Detwiler a gripping four-star read. This was my first read by this author, but it wont be the last, there was enough drama and intrigue to keep you hooked, and enough story to keep you wondering. It was the torment that got to me, it was too well done, and that’s weird as normally I love it, but my heart was in my stomach as I was reading it made me feel like it was too real, too deep. This is a story that will stay with you, it will hook you and leave you burning.

I swear Jessica Aiken Hall just gets better and better with every book, and I swear that has to be a harder and harder feat to do each time. Her books are one heck of a ride every time. They are massively full of twists and turns with thought provoking mysteries that will make you lay awake at night wondering if you have the whole story straight in your head only to read the next day and find out you in fact did not. That is by far the best kind of dark and twisty thriller novel that you want to read. House in the Woods is her latest and does not deviate from this norm. It is her best to date in my opinion and I will be re-reading here very soon just because I am sure I missed something and will once again enjoy the crazy ride it will take me on. I found this one to me more emotive than some of her other thriller novels and it really tugged at the heartstrings at times. I enjoyed that layer and it made it more personable to me. I can’t say enough good things about this book and wish I could rate it more than five stars. I feel like it would make a wonderful mini-series for television too! I can’t wait to see what else we will get from the mind of Ms. Jessica Aiken-Hall!

So LA Detwiler is a new author to me but I can assure you this will not be my last experience reading anything by the talented Ms. Detwiler again! When I saw the book cover for The Arsonist’s Handbook I was sold, but that blurb drew me in even more and it quickly soared to the top of my TBR list. I immediately dove right in and was hooked in so fast I read this book in one sitting well into the evening and found myself wrapping this up at four am.. Oops lol, NOT SORRY! I had to know how this book would end, I could not sleep until I did, it was that gripping. It beyond lived up to its name of a ‘gripping psychological thriller’ and I even found that it haunted my dreams and thoughts the next day. I won’t be giving you the details of the characters and story because really that would ruin it and you need to dive in and learn those for yourself, but this is one that you do not want to miss if you love dark and twisty books with a a crime thriller background storyline. I will be going to see what else is available and stalking the new releases of Detwiler to come now. I hope we get more of the same kind soon! Such a fab more than five star read!
I was not sure what to expect going into this book but it was a very interesting read. It is a dark focus, filled with a lot of family dysfunction, but held a lot of questions. I related to most of the characters – as a teen with one parent who was never there, as a parent who would do whatever I had to if it kept my kids safe, and as a working parent who always seems to be tired. I do not identify with the arsonist, however (which is a good thing – you can stop dialing the police now). I enjoyed the twists and turns throughout the story and I like how all characters have a flaw, but are trying to make it through life. Some portions I had figured out about midway through the book, but most I did not…until the end. Overall, it was a great piece of work – very well thought out!

I loved this book! House in the Woods by Jessica Aiken-Hall tops the list of best books I have read in a long time. From the very first page I was hooked and found it impossible to put down. This book had twists and turns that kept me reading to find out what was going to happen next. Not only did it have me on the edge of my seat wanting to know how things would turn out for young Molly, but I felt an emotional connection with Molly.
Molly has just finished her second year of college and has plans to spend a quiet and relaxing summer at home. However, her plans of having a quiet summer are quickly shattered when Molly stumbles onto a Missing Persons poster of a young girl that went missing nearly 20 years earlier. For some reason unknown to her, Molly feels compelled to learn more about the young girl’s disappearance. Upon looking at the photo on the poster she feels as though she is looking at an image of herself. Molly is intrigued and knows that she must learn more about this missing girl. The resemblance to her is uncanny, and young Molly vows to do everything she can to find the young girl in the photo.
When Molly learns that her older brother, Marc, once dated the young girl in the missing persons poster she is even more intrigued. She needs to know the connection to her brother and starts suspecting there is more to the story. As Molly digs into the circumstances surrounding the young girl’s disappearance, she discovers deep buried family secrets. Secrets so dark and sinister that Molly wishes she had left them buried.
House in the Woods takes you on a suspense filled journey through the life of Molly and her family. The journey is dark, twisted, and full of sinister secrets that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. This book is a must read!
