SAFE HARBOR (A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 5)
By Valerie Davisson
5 out of 5 stars

I loved reading the book SAFE HARBOR (A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 5) by Valerie Davisson. It is a story that includes mystery, danger, and suspense. In this book, Logan McKenna finds herself right in the middle of a homicide investigation. Will the killer be caught? I love the character of Logan as she is an intelligent, strong, and independent woman. She has a wonderful relationship with Ben and loves that she has her family near her. Logan is a woman who is successful and also cares about others. When needed she has a strong determination to find out the whole truth to any investigation that she becomes involved in. Logan also finds herself facing someone from the past that could have an impact not only on her life but on the lives of those she cares for as well. This story had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. It is suspenseful and had me on the edge of my seat. The author does an amazing job of writing a book that is exciting and entertaining. I didn’t want to put it down until the final page. It is a story I would highly recommend reading.

A Beach Wedding To Die For is the second book in the Cozy Mysteries To Die For Series by Judy Moore. I truly enjoyed reading this book and had a hard time putting it down. I had to know what was going to happen next. Although this can be read as a standalone , I highly recommend reading the first book if you haven’t already Beck is back at it again and this time playing detective to a murder . She’s been a bridesmaid two times already where the bride has jilted. Becks job is to keep the two exes from showing up and causing a scene. Find out what happens next. Who will not be leaving alive? I highly recommend reading this and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in this series.

A Beach Wedding To Die For is the second book in the Cozy Mysteries To Die For series by Judy Moore. I really enjoyed reading the first book in this series and this book did not disappoint. Beck O’Rourke lives with her grandmother Miss Alice and her younger sister Lizzie. They live above the Beach Reads bookstore and coffee shop that they own. Beck has always wanted to be a detective and is determined to follow through on her dream. However, there seems to be a rather attractive Manatee Beach Police Department detective that keeps getting in her way. She must decide which path she wants to pursue, her lifelong dream or the handsome Devon Mathis. With three grooms at a beach wedding, someone is bound to not make it out alive. I love the cozy mystery atmosphere of this story. Just when I thought I knew who the killer was I would get thrown a curveball. The author does a great job keeping you on your toes throughout. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series.

A Beach Wedding To Die For (Cozy Mysteries To Die For Book 2) by Judy Moore is a wonderful seaside mystery. When Beck is asked to be a bridesmaid for her old school friend, for the third time, she didn’t expect to put her newly found detective skills to use, trying to solve another murder. Beck is a tenacious and endearing character who easily gains the trust of the witnesses she speaks too but she doesn’t always like what she finds out. This is a lovely easy read book, I would recommend to lovers of the crime genre who are looking for a fun mystery without too much gore. I am, as always, looking forward to the next book in the series, I am still hoping that Beck gets her man in the form of the handsome detective Devon.

This was a great story to read and really well written. The author really brings the story and characters to life and even though it is set in the past it isn’t confusing to read. It follows an classic story of a lover scorned.

Naheshi  is a eunuch slave who’s job is to do the bidding of the queen. Naheshi is seen as safe as he has no interest in woman. However that all changes after one intimate moment with the Queen.

Naheshi falls in love with the Queen but when he realises  that his feelings aren’t returned and that he means nothing to her he feels hurt and angry.

When Nasheshi gets approached by the Queens mother in law and asked to spy on the Queen Nasheshi agrees as revenge for his hurt feelings.

Now the Queen is facing execution. Can Nasheshi help safe the only woman he loves or will he leave her to face the consequences alone?

A Beach Wedding To Die For (Cozy Mysteries To Die For Book 2) by Judy Moore is as the title says a cozy mystery crime story. This well-crafted tale is a quick but engaging read that is full of twists and turns that keeps the pages turning. This who dunnit, has plenty of suspects and you are kept wondering right before the killer is revealed.

A runaway bride, two jilted ex’s, a hopeful groom, a wedding, a murder and of course Beck O’Rourke our amateur super sleuth is on the case again much to the chagrin of detective Devon Mathis. What I didn’t expect was the ending.

5 ++++++ Stars

I loved this book so so so much! I’ve said this before but Judy Moore is my go to for cozy mysteries. These characters, especially Scratchoff..Absolutely a favorite of mine. Beck is someone I want to be friends with, I want to rent a room at Beach Reads and be her BFF, LOL

I usually suspect I know who did what in these books, In more times than not I’m completely wrong but I always try. This author always messes with my head and once again I had no clue…I think it crossed my mind once but quickly dismissed itself and I was on a whole different track. Then that ending….it had me asking myself….What would I have done?

This author has such a way with weaving her words into a smooth flowing story, one that I never want to end. I love what is and even what isn’t going on with Beck and Devon and I’m praying that there’s a future book planned involving more of Lizzie and of course much more interaction between Scratchoff and Grammy.

You can absolutely read this as a standalone, but I’m so glad I didn’t, there are a couple books I’d recommend reading before this one just to get everyone’s history and why they are so special in this book!

Bring on The Tennis Pro, I can not wait!!!

AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!!

The Queen’s Dog (Empire at Twilight Book 3) by N.L. Holmes
4 Stars!!!!

I have to say that I do like to delve into history and have a bit of intrigue and all the drama of the royal courts. I really found myself glued to this book as the drama played out. I really like the twists and turns. The author does a great job of building the story and the drama around the characters. I really got caught up in the deception of the royal court and the plots.

I like how the author is able to use historic reference and keep it realistic. The characters really come to life and seem to just jump off of the pages. I found the whole story to be quite well balanced with court intrigue and drama along with just enough of the characters history mixed in. I really look forward to reading more from this author.

The Queen’s Dog by N.L. Holmes is the third book in the Empire at Twilight series. This is my favorite book in the series so far. What will you do for the love of another? This question falls on a eunuch slave who has fallen for his Queen in the Syrian kingdom of Ugarit. This becomes not a story of failed romance but of mystery and intrigue. I really enjoy the descriptive powers of the author taking me back in time to an ancient kingdom. The characters are well written and interesting. I want to know what is going to happen next as I am reading which causes me to stay up all night. I usually enjoy my historical fiction in the Victorian age but this has me hooked. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

This is the fifth book in this series which I enjoyed just as much as the previous four books. I highly suggest reading the previous books to help enjoy the characters more. This is a well written story that has characters that are so well developed. I had no issues connecting with them as they bring the story to life. This is an easy, engaging story that kept me turning pages to the end. It has twists and turns that keep you wanting to know what will happen next. Logan makes a great character and always finds herself in the middle of something. In this story she finds herself in the middle of two murders. Things turn and safe harbor is needed but will they all find it? Will someone be left out? I really enjoyed this book and the characters made this story for me. I highly recommend this book and this author.

The Queen’s Dog (An Empire at Twilight Novel) by N.L. Holmes – Review by Angela Hayes

The Queen's DogThe Queen’s Dog by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3 1/2 Stars

The Queen’s Dog is the third book in the Empire at Twilight series by N.L Holmes. This is a very detailed and descriptive historical crime story- a bit of a mystery- with enough drama and interesting developments to keep things interesting.
I have read most of Ms. Holmes’ books now and am always quite taken with the rich historical details she infuses into her stories. As with the other book of Ms. Holmes that I have read, the authors passion for history is very evident in her writing and this passion definitely added to my enjoyment of the story.
As with her other books, this story is a fascinating blend of fiction and historical fact, which is woven into quite an intriguing story. This time, the story is set in a Bronze Age Syrian kingdom called Ugarit- and the age, characters, and storyline come to life with Ms. Holmes vivid detailing.
I found this book to be a little slow to get going, which made it hard for me to ‘get into’- but when the pace picked up and the story developed, things got more interesting.
This book is told from Naheshi’s point of view- he happens to be the Queen’s slave, and a eunuch- which also added an extra element of interest to the story.
So, if you love ancient history and original stories with interesting settings and characters- as well as historical crime fiction, then you will probably want to add this to you TBR.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, N.L Holmes!

A Beach Wedding To Die For (Cozy Mysteries To Die For Book 2) by Judy Moore – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

A Beach Wedding To Die ForA Beach Wedding To Die For by Judy Moore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Beach Wedding To Die For is the second book in Judy Moore’s Cozy Mysteries To Die For series. It could be read as a stand-alone but does follow on from the events of the previous book. We catch up with Beck O’Rourke, who has started to get a bit of a reputation after solving a murder related to a book signing at her family shop.
Beck is a bridesmaid at her friend Amelia’s third attempt at a wedding. With jilted ex-fiancés, bitter siblings and secrets being revealed, there’s plenty of drama. And, since it wouldn’t be much of a murder mystery otherwise, someone ends up on the wrong end of a cake knife.
The standout characters for me are, naturally, Grammy and Coquina, Beck’s dog. Grammy’s liveliness (she OWNS the dance floor at the wedding!) often brought a smile to my face and Coquina is a great help as Beck tries to piece together what happened.
If you’ve ever been exasperated by a wedding diva, this is the book for you! Or if, like me, you’re longing for the seaside on a cold autumn night. It’s a light, entertaining read that will get your brain working as you try to figure out whodunnit.
For me, this is a five star book. I’m looking forward to reading more of the series!

Beck O’Rourke is at it again! This time we find her at a wedding for her childhood friend Amelia. It’s the brides’ 3rd wedding and Beck has been in each of the previous weddings as a bridesmaid where Amelia has made a scene and left the groom at the alter. Beck can’t believe it when she sees not one but both of the jilted grooms from the first two weddings lurking around the beach watching wedding. The wedding ceremony finishes without a problem and everyone seems relieved. Several hours later after the dinner when everyone is dancing the night away, there’s a scream. Beck’s little sister Lizzie runs towards the sound and is one of the first guests to find that Amelia has been stabbed to death. Will Beck be able to stay out of the way of the police while she solves the mystery of who killed her friend Amelia?

I loved reading the book A Beach Wedding To Die For (Cozy Mysteries To Die For Book 2) by Judy Moore. It is a mystery story that pulled me in from the very beginning. Two jilted grooms show up for a bride’s next wedding. Trouble is unavoidable. Who will not be leaving the wedding alive? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. It has wonderful characters. I loved reading about Beck O’Rourke. She is intelligent, independent, and is ready to jump into action as a detective. I also loved Beck’s grandmother and her sister, Miss Alice, and Lizzie. They make up a family that owns and operates a bookstore, and they help and take care of each other. Then there is Detective Devon Mathis. He is handsome and is attracted to Beck. There are also other additional characters that I enjoyed reading about. All of them have their part to play. The author does a wonderful job of making all of the characters come alive on the pages. I felt like I was right there with them. Don’t miss out on a mystery that will keep you guessing until the end. I highly recommend reading this story.

The Queens Dog by N.L. Holmes is the third boo in the Empire at Twilight series. This book can be read as a standalone although the whole series is worth the read. This book is exactly what I have come to expect from not only this series but this author. It was a detailed and well thought out story that really draws you in to what is happening. It is so easy to imagine everything the author is describing it really does feel like you are there with the characters.
I like how the authors interest in the historical side of these books clearly comes through. For me it makes the whole book a bit more interesting to read as you can really feel the intensity about it. This story really did have a bit of everything and I couldn’t hep but sympathise with the character the position he found himself in. This is a great book and I would definitely recommend it.

Blue Magnolia (Red Farlow Mysteries, #2)Blue Magnolia by W.F. Ranew
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hank “Cowboy” Tillman Solo is an up and coming travelling country singer and Red Farlow is the Private Investigator hired to keep him safe. This is book 2 in a 3-book series. This story was a bit hard to follow at first as there are so many characters, but after the first few chapters it becomes easier to follow and a great read! Just a quick warning, this story has some descriptive scenes of violence, rape, and hate crimes that may be hard for some people to read! It really depicts alt-right extremists in an ugly light, as well as offers some history of the subject. There are twists, turns, and plenty of action! The author writes it in a way that makes you feel like you are in the Old South, when its placed in more recent times, in Georgia. The author has an incredible way with words and language, and once I got started, I could not put this book down. I read it in less than a day! I personally give this story 4 stars and am extremely excited to see what happened before this book and what is next in the Red Farlow series!

East Beach (Red Farlow Mysteries #3) by W.F. Ranew

Ranew has really outdone himself. I can’t wait for the next one. He will have you trying to figure out who did what before you finally find out. A great read.

Red Farlow a PI gets a phone call no one wants to get. A friend is hurt and Red hauls butt there. He walks in to find his friend dying and blood on the floor.

Red calls in friends to help him out with this case. The quote I chose for Red is: “You can only get onto and off the island three ways. One is by air to or from McKinnon airport. Two, by water. Three, by car, bicycle, or foot over the Torras Causeway to the mainland. A boat could be a problem since the tide was incoming at that time, or so I believe. Have to double-check. The easiest and quickest route is by auto over the causeway.”

Highly recommended for crime lovers.

With such a sensitive topic of domestic abuse, this was written well and kept me reading. Logan gets a new neighbor, Lori and her daughter. I liked this story and the way it was written especially dealing with a hot topic, but the author did well with it and brought it awareness.

Vanishing Day by Valerie Davisson
Four Stars

Vanishing Day is the fourth book in the Logan McKenna Mystery/Thriller Series by Valerie Davisson. This book is full of twists and turn that had me on the edge of my seat all night long. This book deals with a heavy subject and I thought that Ms Davisson did a wonderful job with it. This book can be read as a stand alone but I highly recommend you read them in order because they are all fantastic books.
