The Patience of KarmaThe Patience of Karma by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

How I love Madeline and Mike in THE PATIENCE OF KARMA (A Madeline Dawkins Mystery #5) by Cynthia Hamilton. These mysteries are the gift that gives more than you expect. I love the good solid personalities that these two have, their constant introspection, how they examine their motives, I just love the whole process they go through to justify their actions. I especially liked this mystery because of the deeper truths about the homeless and addiction. Things we know about but we don’t really think too deeply about. But we should. I love that the author weaves this into her stories. I have never been disappointed in any of Cynthia Hamilton’s stories and this was no exception. I think you will enjoy this one just as much as I did.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

VANISHING DAY (A Logan McKenna Mystery Book 4) by Valerie Davisson . I have absolutely loved this series and this book was no different. Its the continuing saga of Logan McKenna whose new young neighbor is brutally attacked and left for dead. The only witness to the attack is the victim’s 3 year old daughter. When the police hit a dead end in the case Logan decides she has to find out what happened and why. As Logan starts digging she realizes her neighbor isn’t who she says she is and the danger is getting really deep. Finding out Lori, the victim, is in an abusive relationship or trying to flee from the relationship makes the case even more dangerous but that has never stopped Logan before. Will Logan and Brian find out who is trying to kill Lori and why before its too late for Lori and Logan? Each of these books can be read as standalone but they are all so good I highly recommend reading them all. The relationships and messes Logan gets herself into are so good. Just be prepared that once you start this book you won’t want to put it down!

Dare Game (The Irish Garda Files Book 1) by Melinda Colt – Review by Gail Guerrero

5 Stars

Dare Game gave me serious chills. I was shocked and sad by this story. The Game that was played was sickening. The thought that people would do these things just for money. The simple fact that people find joy in manipulation and fear is terrifying. I really liked John’s character. He was brave, strong and very reassuring. I like that he didn’t back down or send someone else to do the hard work. He got over his past for his future. Amber and Hayley were also well written. The author showed that even when faced with the unknown there can still be hope. That believing in someone or something can change your outlook on the situation. I don’t usually do mystery books but this one took my interest and I was not disappointed. I really liked the way the story flowed. The author did a good job keeping my interest and not letting the suspense get out of hand. Like make me work for it but not too hard. Overall a goof read that most people can enjoy. Especially if you like stories that have thinking.

The Patience of KarmaThe Patience of Karma by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Patience of Karma by Cynthia Hamilton is the fifth book in The Madeline Dawkins book series. These books can be read as standalone but I believe much better enjoyed if read in order. Madeline is up for a crazy time in this book with three different cases at one time. Can Madeline and her partner Mike solve all the cases before anything gets crazier? Madeline is a smart, adventurous, detective who has found her calling since the first book. Mike is a great counterpart to Madeline and I really enjoy their back and forth. I look forward to reading more from this series and this author in the future.

The Patience of KarmaThe Patience of Karma by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book 5 in the Madeline Dawkins series and these stories just keep getting better and better.

Now Madeline and Mike are finally married and running the successful PI business together but things are as they seem. Someone is watching them. Is it someone from Madeline’s past or someone from Mike and will this person destroy their happiness.

Case wise they are on two cases again. First they are trying to find a missing person in order to save his dying sister. As they start to discover things about the person they are unsure if this is just a missing person or if the person doesn’t want to be found because of a more sinister reason.

The second case is a rich musician who hires them as he thinks his younger wife is having an affair. Will the PI’s uncover an affair or will the truth be stranger and more dangerous than any of them realise.

These books are so gripping and the discoveries keep you guessing from start to finish. The characters are strong and well written that you cant help but identify with them and all they go through.

Vanishing Day: Logan Book 4 (The Logan McKenna Series)Vanishing Day: Logan Book 4 by Valerie Davisson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Book four in Davisson’s ‘Logan McKenna Mystery Series’ and having read the previous novels in the series I was looking forward to this one and was definitely not disappointed. Back with our fearless and extremely likeable independent heroine Logan McKenna and I felt as though I was back with an old friend. When Logan’s new young neighbour is viciously attacked by an unknown assailant and left for dead, Logan realises that her neighbours three year old daughter is the only witness to her mothers attack. The police investigation soon comes to a halt without any leads and so Logan decides to do what she does best and investigate herself. However Logan soon discovers that her neighbour is not who she said she was and her efforts to uncover the truth of what happened put Logan herself in extreme danger. Yet again I was hooked from page one with a Logan McKenna Mystery. This story kept me gripped from beginning to end as the storyline was action packed and fast paced and the mystery element of the plot kept me guessing. The characters are all well defined and interesting in their own right but Logan really does bring the story together for me. Although each story in the series can be read as a standalone novel I think the reader will have a better understanding of Logan’s backstory if the series is read in order. I look forward to future books in this enjoyable and engaging series.

The Patience of KarmaThe Patience of Karma by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Patience Of Karma is the th5 book in the excellent Madeline Dawkins series by Cynthia Hamilton. Each book in the series can be read as a stand-alone. The Madeline Dawkins series is a collection of extremely well written detective stories that are captivating and you won’t want to put down.
In this 5th book, Madeline and Mike are now married and are happier than they have been in a long time but is one of their new cases about to cause a rift to their new marital bliss? Madeline and Mike have 3 new cases and have a lot on their plate.
I loved that their assistant Samir had a much bigger role in this book and hope we will continue to see more of him.
As with the previous books in this series, this book grips you straight way and keeps you gripped throughout. This book is very well written and the story is intricate and flows along well, keeping the reader highly engaged. I’m sure I’ve said in reviews of previous books in this series but I’m amazed at how well Cynthia Hamilton writes such intricate storylines and she’s done it again with The Patience Of Karma.
I’m a huge fan of this series and hope that Cynthia Hamilton keeps it going as I love reading about Madeline and Mike.

I absolutely love this series and was really looking forward to reading something featuring Karina set somewhere outside Washington DC, and this absolutely lived up to my expectations! There’s plenty of action and danger as always, and when Karina makes mistakes and impulsive decisions, her friends are always there to help her pick up the pieces. I couldn’t put it down as usual and there are lots of details that add to the story. Can’t wait for the next book!

Vanishing Day: A Logan McKenna Mystery/Thriller Logan Book 4 (The Logan McKenna Series) by Valerie Davisson is a crime thrilling mystery and everything is not as it seems. Valarie has given us a story that touches on abuse but true to her form the characters a complex but relatable. There is action and intrigue, danger that is too close to home and some twisty turns. Even though this is the fourth book in the series I am still finding my way with this author and her writing. Was this bo0ok as good as the last one? I’m not sure but I will say things are starting to grow on me.

The Patience of Karma (The Madeline Dawkins Series Book 5) by Cynthia Hamilton is a crime/thriller. The mystery, thrills and suspense kept me glued to the book all the way through. As always with these wonderful characters Cynthia puts them through their paces and us right along with them. I have loved this series since the first book I picked up and have not been disappointed, not once. Cynthia cleverly crafts the plot and several storylines that she is known for and works her magic when mixing it all together. Mike and Madeline are one of my favourite couples in a series and they always manage to find themselves in harrowing situations. Cynthia’s writing is engaging and captivating. I suggest you start from the first book and work your way through. Disappointed, I think NOT!

The Patience of KarmaThe Patience of Karma by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Patience of Karma is the fifth book in the Madeline Dawkins series and this book follows on from the intense stories that have rocked these two loveable characters.

The story sets up with them having been married for four months and they are still delving into the world of the PI’s while still trying to escape her ex-husband and with secrets threatening to shake there world, it’s just another day in the lives of these two characters.

This next adventure has them searching for a lost nephew who could save his sister, they are engaged to follow a woman who’s famous husband thinks she is having an affair and many more come out of the woodwork.

This story continues to enlighten you with the history of the two main characters although this story heavily sides towards Mike which is great to see inside such a brilliant developed character. Although there is a arc that runs through all the books you can still read this as a standalone. With the twists and turns, drama which is associated with a Madeline Dawkins book this one does not disappoint. I can’t wait for the next installment in this great series.

The world this author has created never gets old to me each book I find myself on the edge of my seat and trying to figure everything out before the end. The Patience of KarmaThe Patience of Karma by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Patience of Karma is the fifth book in the Madeline Dawkins series by Cynthia Hamilton. This story can be read without having to read the rest of the series, but I would recommend starting at book one. The story and the characters have developed so much throughout that you will be missing out if you don’t.

Book five starts back with Madeline and Mike, now a few months into their marriage. As usual they both have their separate cases to work on, but come together to help each other work through plots, stories and to work things out. The cases are not without their challenges, and although they are almost like reading two different stories the author manages to bring them together as one.
Madeline and Mike are tested in many ways in this story, and their relationship continues to grow.
I’ve been a huge fan of this series from the start, and this book doesn’t disappoint. I have loved seeing the development in the characters of Madeline and Mike, both separately and as a couple. They bring out the best in each other in so many ways.
The author, as always, has done her research and this shines through in the story. I would recommend this series to get stuck in to.

Pharaoh’s Forgery (Karina Cardinal Mysteries Book 4) by Ellen Butler is such a lighthearted little mystery tale. I love these books featuring Karina Cardinal. She truly is a woman that trouble seeks. I give Pharaoh’s Forgery: Karina Goes on Vacation (Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 4) by Ellen Butler, 5 stars.

I always forget just how good this series is until I start the next book and find myself unable to put it down. This book is no exception. I was pulled in from the very beginning. I like how they moved the location to another country. The change in setting was refreshing while still maintaining everything this series is know for. I liked how it was not all about DC and politics, now revolves around ancient relics. There is still a lot of adventure and twists and turns in the story, it is both thrilling and gripping.

Then there are the characters. Karina is great as always. She feels real, not always making the most popular decisions, but ones she feels strongly about. I like how we got to know more about her neighbor, Mrs. Thundermuffin. I could tell from previous books that she was definitely an interesting character and I was so great that the author told us so much more about her in this book. I also like how Rodrigo was more of a main character in this book too. Again, he seemed like an interesting character previously, but I had no idea just what he was made of. This book shows us.

If you like a thrilling mystery suspense with great characters and a gripping story, this book and series are for you. In my opinion, this can be read as a standalone, but I suggest reading all of them since they are so good.

Pharaoh’s Forgery is the fourth book in Ellen Butler’s Karina Cardinal Mystery series and we are going on a short girls’ holiday to Mexico with Karina … or so we think! It is always a pleasure to meet up with Karina and her kooky circle of friends and the enemies, the enemies tend to take the cake, every time!
Karina is going to Cancun for some sun and margaritas while also dropping off a package to Mrs Thundermuffin and you can guess what she does … Karina opens the Pandora Box and off we go onto a crazy ride with kidnappers and murderers and conmen. It is really good that Karina has friends in right places as she really needs some help to get herself and her fellow lobbyist Rodrigo back home in one piece! I loved how the writer had used her extensive research into the Brazilian National Museum fire to bring alive the story so that we were biting our nails at times and probably praying to ourselves ‘please, please, please …’

Pharaoh’s Forgery: Karina Goes on Vacation (Karina Cardinal Mystery #4) by Ellen Butler

Butler has this way of making you love her books. This is part of the Karina Cardinal Mystery Series and damn if it’s not a good one. You will want to read this even if you haven’t read the first 3.

Karina, K.C. as Mike calls her finds that she may be going on vacation alone. Her sister is down, her mom is taking care of Jill, and her boyfriend is working. Once on vacation she finds herself in trouble. The quote I chose for Karina is: “Not a word. Not a f***ing word.”

Mike, FBI Agent, has to work and feels bad about Karina going alone. He surprises her, but instead he’s the one who gets the surprise. He doesn’t like that she finds herself in trouble. The quote I chose for Mike is: “It’s Tuesday. Are you going to take Rick up on his offer?”

Highly recommended if you love crime, drama and romance.

Pharaoh's Forgery (Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 4)Pharaoh’s Forgery by Ellen Butler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Pharaoh’s Forgery is the fourth book in Ellen Butler’s Karina Cardinal Mystery series. Like in the previous books, the plot is driven by Karina’s impressive ability to get wrapped up in dangerous, mysterious crimes. Pharaoh’s Forgery combines exotic holiday (to Mexico, not Egypt as the title might suggest) with the theft and forgery of historical artefacts.
In this book, Karina draws on her growing network of friends and useful contacts to help her out with the trouble she inevitably finds herself in. I particularly enjoyed getting to spend some more time with Rodrigo, Karina’s charismatic co-worker, and Mrs Thundermuffin, her eccentric neighbour. It was fun having characters who feel like old friends around, and to learn more about them.
This is a great read for anyone missing going on holiday and exploring museums (and I imagine will be an enjoyable holiday read when we can travel again!). Butler does a good job of describing the places Karina visits, and we get plenty of time to enjoy the hotel (and the food! I was hungry just reading it!).
For me, this is a five-star read. It’s a really good series and I’m enjoying seeing Karina grow and develop as she gets used to the trouble that seems to follow her around and learns how to protect herself. It’s worth starting at the beginning, with Isabella’s Painting, to get to know Karina and meet some of the supporting characters.

Once again Cynthia Hamilton has given us a read that is engaging and creative from the very beginning. The patience of Karma is book 5 in this series, and after reading the previous books in this series, I didn’t think they would continue getting better and better, but boy was I wrong, Cynthia Hamilton continues to up her game and brings us another fast-paced read full of action, adventure. I love how we don’t just get one ‘case’ to follow and figure out, but how this author writes her books each one flows and you never find yourself lost to the storyline. This book once again shows me that sinking my teeth into a good crime genre book is the way forward, and that has only been done by this author’s brilliant writing and incredible characters to keep me hooked along the way! The characters brought to us in the reads are captivating and I absolutely love following along on their journey, I really connect with them and they make the read what it is! EPIC! I highly recommend this read and this author and I can’t wait to see what else is to come!

I recommend reading the books in order because of development to the characters and relationships, but this can be enjoyed as a standalone book. Karina is finally getting a well-deserved vacation away from D.C. Of course, as usual things don’t go as planned for Karina. This story has crime, thrills, mystery, laughs, and more. I always enjoy Karina’s adventures and her partners in getting her out of trouble and solving the case. Karina is smart, full of adventure, but also conscientious and not a detective. Trouble just seems to find her in the unlikeliest of places. I look forward to reading more in Karina’s mysteries in the future and more from this author.
