THE PATIENCE OF KARMA (A Madeline Dawkins Mystery #5) by Cynthia Hamilton – Review by Sara Oxton

The Patience of KarmaThe Patience of Karma by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Patience of Karma by Cynthia Hamilton a five-star read that sparkles off the page. This is number five in the Madeline Dawkins series and it can be read a stand-alone, as I have read most of the previous novels, but haven’t read them in order. Once again Madeline and Mike will enthral you with the mysteries, they each try and conquer. This pair always keep you guessing, with what’s happening with the cases, as just when you have a handle they pull it from you and the door slams in your face leaving you wondering again. I don’t want to say more as you need to get into this story, its complex and filled with ups and downs and wonder. Don’t miss this great story.

Pharaoh’s Forgery (Karina Cardinal Mysteries Book 4) by Ellen Butler

Pharaoh’s Forgery is the fourth book in The Karina Cardinal Mysteries Series by Ellen Butler . I must say this is by far my favorite of this series. It’s a gripping mystery with twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Karina Cardinal is on her way to Cancun for a much needed vacation while there drop off a package. But what happens when the drop off doesn’t go as planned? I literally read this in one sitting I couldn’t put it down till I finished. I had to know how everything was going to play out. I highly recommend reading this book and if you haven’t already read the first three books I recommend reading them as well. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

Dare Game (The Irish Garda Files Book 1) by Melinda Colt – Review by Angela Hayes

Dare GameDare Game by Melinda Colt
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dare Game is the first book in The Irish Garda Files and debut novel by Melinda Colt. This is an exciting murder mystery- with detectives, investigation, cybercrime, a ‘deadly’ game, danger, emotion, intrigue, romance, second chances, family dynamics, and plenty of drama.
I was really impressed with this debut novel and how easily I became absorbed in all the developments. I love a good murder mystery/thriller- so I was hooked right from the beginning of this story with its multi-layered and complex web of intrigue.
The premise is quite original and well-woven, that’s not to say there weren’t a few minor issues such as a bit of repeated information and a few inconsistencies- but they were very minor and nothing that really detracted from my enjoyment of the book.
Detective Inspector John O’Sullivan is an Irish police detective who is called to a recent murder scene where things just don’t add up. It doesn’t take long before all the evidence seems to point to a serial killer. He will have to figure things out quickly if he’s to prevent another murder. But it takes a worried mother and her frightened daughter coming forward before there’s a real break in the case. What unravels makes for really gripping reading.
What a great start to a thrilling new series. It’s shaping up to be fantastic. Can’t wait to dive into Book Two- “Killer Score”.

Thank you, Melinda Colt!

Pharaoh’s Forgery (Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 4) by Ellen Butler

This book was as good as I knew it would be. Every book in this series just gets better and better. This book is full of mystery, intrigue, suspense, and humor. I love finding out what kind of predicament Karina is going to find herself in and I was given what I wanted in this story. This book can be read as a standalone but all of the books in this series are 5 star reads, so it is my suggestion that you read them all. There are always great characters in each book and this one had some of the characters from other books and we also got to meet new ones. This was a quick read for me because I couldn’t put it down until I found out what happens. I highly recommend this book. This author always does an exceptional job weaving a wonderful story full of unexpected twists and turns.

Pharoah’s Forgery: Karina Goes on Vacation by Ellen Butler is book four of the Karina Cardinal Mystery series. You should definitely read this series in order because Karina finds herself on some pretty epic adventures and you wouldn’t want to miss any of it!

Karina has been in quite a few jams as Michael would say so a girls trip is a no brainer. Of course, Karina should have expected that it wouldn’t be that easy because of course she finds herself in another pickle. This book as well as the others in the series, do a great job of keeping you on your toes. You’re always wondering what happens next! I don’t want to give too much away about Karina’s newest mystery so I’ll just say, you always wonder what’s going to happen next!

The author does a great job of keeping you intrigued. You just have to know what going to happen next! I definitely recommend this book!

With forgery, a ancient relic and a kidnapping can Katrina  solve this case and what is so appealing about the ancient relic that means someone is prepared to commit a crime for it.

5 ++++ Stars

I can’t even find words to describe how much I love this series. Not sure if it’s the characters and how they’re written, or their dialogue, or the storylines, or the fact I cant put the books down while I’m reading them. Even the drama and the edge of your seat danger has me completely hooked. I love Karina and have always said I want to be her friend and her sidekick in how she just falls into stuff and how she maneuvers her way through it all. Also, who knew Mrs Thundermuffin had so much more to her? I just loved this book so so much and it was a perfect addition to a favorite series from a favorite author. I seriously can not wait for a cold winter day to sit and read all these over again.

I just know this can’t be the end of this series, too many things left unanswered…Silverthorne Security being just one. I love these guys and how they “handle” Karina, this always makes me smile and a lot of time laugh out loud. Then there’s Mike…. I love Rodrigo, and his friendship with Karina is one of my favorite parts of these stories.

I truly just don’t know what to say except pick this series up..each I suppose could be read as a standalone but trust me when I say don’t do that… There’s history to these characters you absolutely don’t want to miss.

I LOVED IT and can not wait for more!!

THE PATIENCE OF KARMA (A Madeline Dawkins Mystery #5) by Cynthia Hamilton – Review by Kayla Interdonato

The Patience of KarmaThe Patience of Karma by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Patience of Karma is the fifth book in The Madeline Dawkins Series by Cynthia Hamilton. This is the fourth book I have read in this series and this book did not disappoint. The author does an amazing job carrying out multiple story lines within the same book. Madeline Dawkins is a private investigator with her partner Mike Delaney. One case leaves Madeline looking for a client’s missing nephew to help save his dying niece. It’s thought the nephew Daniel died in a boating accident that took the lives of two of his friends, but a photo surfaces that proves otherwise. Finding Daniel could lead to him being a kidney donor for his sister, ultimately saving her life. The other case deals with an older man worried that his younger wife is cheating on him. Digging into this case leads to some strange and dangerous evidence. Then to top it all off, Mike Delaney is struggling with some past choices he made and how they might affect his present life. These three cases were true tests for Madeline. Like in other novels, I really enjoyed reading Madeline’s story. She is such a strong female main character and works very hard in her profession. I look forward to continuing Madeline’s story in the next novel.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Patience of Karma is book 5 in the series. This book can be read as a stand alone however it’s always good to have read the previous books to understand the level of relationships and what was conjured up to get them where they are today. I have read the previous books. Mike and Madeline have a long history. Here they are back at it again doing what they love. I always wonder if the books would keep my attention better if it was one case at a time. I enjoyed reading the book but it did take me a while to finish. This duo has 2 cases which are keeping them busy. A missing nephew who is thought to have possibly passed away but there’s reason to believe he’s still alive. He’s needed for a very important reason involving his sister who desperately needs him. The other case is a high profile person who believes his wife is cheating. Should be a very easy cut and dry case. With any good book there’s always surprise bumps in the road to keep us entertained. I love the relationship between the characters and always wonder what they will be up to next.

I was really hopeful for this book. I was intrigued by the idea of the storyline. Sadly the story was stiff and unforgiving. The natural flow seemed lost and I struggled to stay involved in the characters or the story. The ending is expected, I would have loved more to bring me to care about the characters.

It is nice seeing Logan and Ben’s relationship progress. Also the update on her daughter and Liam.

I felt as though I was right there in the midst of the action. I felt as though I was right alongside Karina the whole time.

Karina can’t even have a peaceful vacation as drama follows her. I really like how the author is able to bring the characters to life and the book is well balanced with drama and intrigue. I definitely will be reading more from this author in the future.

The Patience of KarmaThe Patience of Karma by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the fifth book in the series that I have read and I continue to find myself being pulled into Madeline’s world with each new book. This book can be read as a standalone…as any references to prior books is pretty well explained. However, I recommend reading the entire series because it is just that good! Plus, having their back story takes the story to another level.

But…back to this book. Mike and Madeline each have their own cases they are working on. Mike is tasked with finding a man that was previously presumed dead in hopes that he will be able to help save a young woman’s life. Madeline is watching a composer’s wife for proof of cheating. However, a huge wrench is thrown into the case when the wife comes up missing. To add more drama on top of everything, someone from Mike’s past shows up with information that could change his (and Madeline’s) world forever. Can they find the truth in each of these cases before it’s too late?

These books just keep getting better. Every book, as their story continues to grow, is better than the last. Madeline, as a character, has really come into her own and become a strong woman to be reckoned with. I love this series and recommend it to anyone who loves a good mystery!

Pharaoh’s Forgery: Karina Goes on Vacation (Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 4) by Ellen Butler is another superb suspense/mystery and a wonderful addition to this series. I can’t get enough of Karina and the situations she inadvertently finds herself in (reminds me of myself). Slammed full of intrigue and mystery, I simply couldn’t put this book done until I finished the last page. I love the way Butler develops each story and the detail each book contains. Each work is complete and can stand on its own easily. However for the character development and certain histories, you best appreciate the storyline when taken in series total. I’ve been reading (and enjoying) a lot of books outside of my normal genre as of late. This was a great read and a bit more of what I gravitate toward.
This was my first book I have read by this author and much to my pleasant surprise, a first in a series.
This is one of those books that has characters that you find yourself growing attached to. I found myself intrigued from start to finish as a Dead Man Speaks has elements of a good mystery/thriller. The idea of the victim taking part in solving his own murder is fantastic to me! While there is an obvious paranormal element to the story, I never felt like the author was reaching or that the twists and turns were over the top. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and look forward to reading more by Lisa Jones Gentry.

Clive had a bad life. As a young boy his mom didn’t want him. His father takes him and they move into a boarding house. The lady of the house takes them in.

Clive loses his father and his mom comes to take him back. He takes off after he graduates because he can’t take living with his mom. The quote I chose for Clive is: “What did that guy really say?”

A DEAD MAN SPEAKS (A CLIVE JANUARY MYSTERY BOOK 1) by LISA JONES GENTRY – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

A Dead Man Speaks (A Clive January Mystery Book 1)A Dead Man Speaks by Lisa Jones Gentry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Dead Man Speaks is the first book in Lisa Jones Gentry’s Clive January Mystery series. The premise of the book is that the deceased Mr January can’t rest until his murder is solved and is able to communicate with Detective Bob Greene to help him. Which should really make the case easier for Greene except that what he gets from January are a series of powerful memories from throughout his life which send him chasing up all kinds of leads which may or may not have anything to do with January’s death.
The story takes a while to get going. For the first twelve chapters it feels like January’s life is flashing slowly before his eyes. This gives us a fair bit of backstory which is useful later on, but I think interspersing this with aspects of the murder investigation would have given the story a more momentum. It is worth persevering, though, as it is an interesting story and the pace and tension do pick up later in the book.
Detective Greene is a complicated character. He testified against a partner who murdered a black teenager but did nothing in the moment to stop his partner. This means that pretty much everybody dislikes him, and his apparently confused morals make it hard for the reader to warm to him. He is persistent, though, and determined to find justice for January.
For me, this is a four-star book. It requires a fair bit of attention and patience but rewards you with an intriguing, tangled mystery with plenty of twists and surprises. I’d recommend it to mystery fans who are interested in ghosts and the paranormal. I’m looking forward to reading the sequel!
