Rose by Any Other Name (The Sisters, Texas #10)Rose by Any Other Name by Becki Willis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rose by Any Other Name by Becki Willis is the tenth book in The Sisters, Texas Mystery series. This book can be read as a stand-alone.
As the first book I have read by this author it definitely gave me a great introduction to her work. The book was intriguing and entertaining in equal measure. It was really easy to understand, despite me having not read any of the previous books in the series. I thought the whole book was well paced and competently constructed.
The characters worked well together – clearly the result of having been built up over many books. I enjoyed reading about them and can easily see how you would build up a sort of relationship with them if you have been reading from the start.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will certainly look to read the rest of the series.

Accountability (Scope of Practice Book 3) by Jessica Aiken-Hall

5 Stars

This has become a favorite series and one that I’ll be rereading sometime in the future. It’s twisted just enough to have me completely hooked!

I love this author’s writing style and her character building, I find myself completely invested in Valerie and that happened in book 1. She has always taken on everyone else’s problems and in her own way has always figured out how to fix them, or has had someone fixing them for her without her knowledge. You truly must read these in order to get the whole picture, there’s a lot and stories have continued throughout all 3 books which would make it impossible to not read them all in order.

They are the kind of reads you pick up and don’t put back down till you’ve finished. They are the kind of reads that twist and turn when you are least expecting them and there is absolutely no predicting anything. It seems this might be the last book, although I hope not, but was tied up and completed perfectly! Not going into any details since these books link together and would be too afraid of giving something away. I was totally shocked at some things that happened and felt so bad for Valerie in many places. I can’t imagine!

Read these all…They are amazing! I can not wait for what this author brings next!!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Composed: An Ash Park Novel is the 8th book in Meghan O’Flynn’s Ash Park series. It can be enjoyed as a stand alone book. I have read others, but not the whole series. This book is a wonderfully written crime mystery suspense book. It follows Detective Petrosky as he recently returned to work after an officer involved shooting. He is hunting a serial killer this time, and struggles with flashbacks from his last case. I love reading about the case and seeing it unfold. As they try to profile their killer, and track down the location the victims are being kept. The book gets pretty graphic at times, so reader discretion advised. I love this series and highly recommend. Think of it as a book of Law and Order SVU.

Composed: An Ash Park Novel by Meghan O’Flynn is the eighth book in the An Ash Park novel series. Let me tell you that I highly recommend starting at the beginning of the series because it helps to have all the background and info concerning Detective Edward Petrosky. This character is great because he is not perfect but flawed and but still an amazing detective. This series is dark, gritty, and full of suspense and this book doesn’t let the reader down. I will not reveal the plot but just know it was hard to tear myself away while reading. This explores the dark minds of people who are working to help us and those out to hurt us. I enjoy the level of description and the development of the characters. The stories keep getting better and better. I look forward to reading more from Meghan O’Flynn in the future.

I bow down to the almighty pen wielded by O’Flynn. She is so extremely gifted. The stories that she puts in your hands… if you are craving an amazing story, filled with twists and turns, and then some more, criminal minds, mayhem and murder – RUN and pick up this latest treasure. Each book stands on its own well but I will tell you now, you will want every single book O’Flynn has written. I was left breathless with every page and simply couldn’t put it down until I finished reading. Haunting, suspense-filled – I simply loved it. I can not recommend it more highly. Valerie is back! Only this time, instead of helping others, she needs to help herself. Val’s secrets have been piling up and they are about to pull her under. She needs to find justice against those that have wronged her in the past…but does she have the strength to do it? She doesn’t know who to trust anymore and she is running out of time.
This book follows some storylines that have been around since the first book…so I highly recommend going back and reading the first two books before diving into this one. I love Val’s strength and need for justice. She is always looking out for those around her, so it’s about time she really started looking out for herself. I have enjoyed this series from the beginning and look forward to reading whatever Jessica Aiken-Hall comes out with next!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Let me start by saying, I enjoyed that this book took me back in time to the start of Vietnam and back to present day but I thoroughly enjoyed how it all came to tie together in a smooth way. I love Logan’s inquisitive nature and how she finds herself in these situations to help others. The author makes Logan come off just as human as the women that we are in real life which made me continue reading this second book of this series. I also love a good mystery and suspenseful story as this book was to draw me in as it was written well but the adventure keeps me at a smooth pace as well.

Fatal Legislation: A Novel: Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 2 by Ellen Butler – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Fatal Legislation (Karina Cardinal Mystery #2)Fatal Legislation by Ellen Butler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I found this novel by Ellen Butler to be a gripping political mystery thriller and it is Karina Cardinal’s second adventure. Although book two in a series it can be read as a standalone story. Having read book one and already been introduced to Karina, I was looking forward to this second instalment and was not disappointed. The plot is complex and fast paced and had me hooked from page one. When Senator Harper literally drops dead at Karina’s feet she becomes a ‘person of interest’, due to the fact that the Capitol Hill lobbyist was having a heated discussion with him after he had torpedoed her latest health care legislation initiative. When it’s discovered that the Senator was actually assassinated by a hacker disabling his pacemaker, FBI cybercrime’s expert and Karina’s boyfriend Mike Finnegan is reassigned to work a new case. Fearing that she will become a suspect Karina begins her own investigation into who would want the Senator dead. Karina ends up in the dangerous world of money and politics, and soon finds herself in the real killers sights.
The main character, Karina Cardinal, really brings the story to life as she is a very relatable and likeable person and I felt fully immersed in the story alongside her. The storyline has enough twists and turns in it so that it kept me guessing until the last page. I couldn’t put this book down and I hope there will be further books in this series.

Composed by Meghan O’Flynn is the eighth book in the Ash Park series. This is quite a dark and thrilling series that really knows how to keep you coming back for more. I usually struggle a bit with a series when it starts getting into this number of books. However I have to say that this is my favourite book of the series so far. It really felt like you were getting to see even more into the main character than previously which is impressive for so far down the line.
I loved the story line to this book as well. It felt gritty and exciting. I was hooked almost instantly. It was full of suspense and intrigue, and that was before the chief of police was abducted. The really felt like the pages were just turning themselves and I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen.
This is a brilliant book and an amazing series. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Solstice Shadows: A VanOps Thriller by Avanti Centrae

This was the first book I’ve read by the author, and it will not be my last. Solstice Shadows is the second book in the VanOps Thriller series. I really enjoyed this page turning, long lasting book.

Maddy, a teacher at a dojo, finds herself in a very dangerous situation. After letting her boyfriend, Bear, know what’s going on; she’s attacked again. Flying all over the world Maddy finds herself on a dangerous adventure. The quote I chose for Maddy is: “The Egyptian cryptographer’s dead ? The one that Will and Jags spoke with?”

Bear, A VanOps Agent, isn’t quite secure in his relationship. A jealous creature by nature, but he has good reason. After learning something was stolen his director puts him on a case that requires Maddy’s help. The quote I chose for Bear is: “Friends? You gotta be kiddin’ me. He’s your ex and wants you back.”

If you love adventure, crime, drama, and romance all rolled into one fantastic book then I highly recommended Solstice Shadows is the book for you.

Solstice Shadows: A VanOps Thriller by Avanti Centrae – Review by Angela Hayes

Solstice Shadows (VanOps, #2)Solstice Shadows by Avanti Centrae
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3 Stars

Solstice Shadows is the second book in the VanOps Series by Avanti Centrae. I was really intrigued by this book the moment I laid eyes on it. The premise promised a story that ticked off many of the elements that I love in a great action adventure. It even started off with a bang- opening a door on a shootout- so I was really excited to be along for the journey.
While this story did contain action, adventure, history, intrigue, mystery, relic hunting, and so much more- but after the initial shootout, the pace began to lag, and I couldn’t quite find a connection with the characters, or the story for that matter. I felt like I was missing something- that I should have known more about the characters, backstories, and even VanOps itself. I am kicking myself that I didn’t read Book One first- but the blurb read like this book could standalone in the series, like a lot of other thriller series stories can and do. But, unfortunately, it fell a little flat for me- especially as the story didn’t really ‘catch me up’ with past events, so I was left feeling a little lost, and wondering about a lot of things- far more than I would have liked- which detracted from my enjoyment of the book.
So, if you are like me and haven’t read the Book One yet, I really recommend doing so before starting on this one- because I think this story would have been far more enjoyable if I’d known what occurred back in the first book.
The ending leaves an opening for another instalment, with trouble on the wind, so I will start over with this series, reading Book One FIRST, and then Book Two again- before reading any new additions.

Thank you, Avanti Centrae!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Solstice Shadows: A VanOps Thriller by Avanti Centrae is a fast paced historical mystery/thriller that will keep you on your toes. Avanti puts you through your paces just like the characters. It is an intriguing read with lots of twists and turns. It is a little like Indiana Jones meets Da Vinci Code and entertains us with mythology, and other powers. I did find it a little bit slow in the beginning but this is the second book and I have not read the first, so I am guessing I was missing some vital information. I liked the characters but found they were a little underdeveloped. Having said that it is my first read by this author and I will be looking into more of her work.

Composed: An Ash Park Novel (Volume 8) by Meghan O’Flynn is darker, more twisted, more enthralling and compelling read than the others. Meghan knows her craft in this genre and isn’t afraid to put everything on the table to give the reader a compelling and spellbinding read. Just when you think she has out done herself with the last book you read, she manages to top it each and every time. You think you know what is coming but Meghan cleverly weaves her web in an entirely different way.
If you like something a little dark, something engrossing and something a little twistier than before, then Meghan is your girl.
Detective Ed Petrosky never thought he could become a monster but his demons and the job he does seem to make those demons just that little bit darker. Will he make it out the other side?

Too bad trouble, if not her middle name, is a close relative.
Sadira Manon, friend and colleague of Karina’s sister Jillian, has been dropping way too much cash on designer labels for a middle school teacher. Even one who moonlights as a jewelry store clerk. But when she’s accused of theft, the loose diamond falling out of her purse is enough for the police to sing the song of their people—”Miranda Rights.”
Karina, Jilly, and Silverthorne Security join forces to investigate who’s setting Sadira up to take a fall, and why. They dig up a shady tangle of Russian mob ties and gambling debts. By the time Karina realizes they’ve dug too deep—and maybe a little too far outside the law—Jillian’s in trouble, and the only way out of this particular pot of hot water is to make that phone call…and hope Mike doesn’t let it go to voice mail.

Brash deCordova is the sheriff in The Sisters, fondly called that by the residents of Juliet & Naomi (the towns are on each side of railroad tracks!) who gets multiple calls about a suspected murder…but was there really a murder? How can he be sure with the multiple stories that don’t quite match from the witnesses and no body? You’ve got to love a mystery that starts out like this!! The characters in this book have depth and love and respect for each other. It won’t take long before you get sucked into the story. How have I not found this author before? I have a lot of books to read to get to know more about what happens in The Sisters Texas Mystery Series.

These books are so fabulous that I am often at a loss of words for how to review them without giving away all those gritty and juicy details but I alway try because they are too good to miss out on. Composed is the 8th installment in the Ash Park novels and I would highly recommend that you read the books in order before diving in or you may be a lot lost. These books build and we have the steady character of Detective Petrosky that changes and grows as a person throughout. Like in the previous novels his own dark demons of his past will come to light in the present murder case he is trying to solve. He once again finds himself hot on the heels of a serial killer terrorizing the people of Ash Park. I won’t divulge more because that would be a disservice but I cannot recommend these books enough. If you love a dark twisted murder mystery these have it all and more! Prepare yourself time to completely devour the novel because if you are anything like me you will find yourself up well past bedtime to figure out how the book will end. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in this series!

Solstice Shadows: A VanOps Thriller by Avanti Centrae is a fast paced book that will keep you turning the pages. This book is the second book of the series however it can be read as a standalone. Personally I would advise readying them in order just so you get that background and build up before this story, although it is not a requirement.
I thought the book was quite fast paced and exciting. I expected it to be a little dense and confusing given the high-tech theme but it was a pleasant surprise to find that it wasn’t like that at all. I found it to be very easy to understand and a good book to get into.
The characters were interesting and I found myself rooting for them throughout the story. IT was well paced and the author did a great job of layering the story so it built up gradually and kept you interested. This was a great book and one I would certainly recommend.

I would suggest you read the books in order to be able to better understand the series. These books have caused me more than one nights sleep because once you begin them you don’t want to put them down. Its the continuing story of Edward Petrosky who is a Detective that is just coming back from leave for a justified shooting. He has several demons he is continually fighting and staying sober is the most prominent one right now. This book is the same in the fact that there are multiple murders and he realizes he is probably dealing with another serial killer but when his only real friend/Chief of Police is kidnapped then all bets are off. He will move heaven and earth to save her and if not he will die trying. Edward has pushed every person in his life away dealing with things on his own but when the only person he really cares about it put in a life or death situation he will do what it takes to save her. Will Edward find the killer before its too late? Read Composed to find out you won’t be disappointed!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Deception is my first novel by Victoria Saccenti and I truly felt like it was a surprise. But not in a bad way. The story follows Joe on his surprise path for revenge and Hunter on her journey to finding herself.

I wasn’t sure whether the intention was to find Hunter a bit hard to like at first, but if it was the writing did just that! I began to like her more though as I got further into the story and we got to know her a little more.

Joe was a wild card though. Ex-marine, adjusting back to civilian life, he is a unique guy. When he sets his sights on Hunter who knows what will happen!

Can Hunter and Joe be truthful to themselves or is there just too much below the surface? Too much to get passed? You’ll have to read Deception to find out!

Deception by Victoria Saccenti is a great enemies to lovers story that will definitely pique your interest. I really enjoyed, right from the start, how you didn’t know much about what was going to happen from the description. It felt like the description was perfect to catch your attention but left the story to speak for itself.
I enjoyed the angle the author took with this story, it made it feel different to others books of this type that I have read. I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t as intriguing as I expected from the blurb however the story was overall very good. I was invested in the characters and couldn’t wait to see how things would turn out.

This is book 8 in Meghan O’Flynn’s ‘Ash Park’ series but each book can be read as a standalone story. This is a gritty fast paced crime thriller which had me gripped from page one and which had so many clever twists and turns that it kept me hooked and guessing until the very last page. The main character, Detective Petrosky was a great character with so many layers to him and an intriguing backstory of his own. Composed’s storyline is chilling and dark, and I became fully immersed in the story. The writer has amazingly detailed descriptions, so I felt as though I was there along side Detective Edward Petrosky.
In this novel the Detective is tormented after a justified shooting in his previous case and fresh from leave his next case is a ruthless serial killer. With the citizens of Ash Park at risk Petrosky investigates, however when the Chief of Police and friend of the Detective is abducted the case becomes personal. Detective Petrosky must discover who the murderer is and stop him before his friend becomes his next victim. As described this is definitely a “dark, twisted, thrill ride”, and I could not put it down. I am already excited for the next book in Meghan O’Flynn’s ‘Ash Park’ series.

This is the 8th book in the Ash Park series and just like the others are gripping from the beginning.the characters are so well written you can’t help but feel the same emotions as they do. Even though this is the 8th book you can read it as a standalone as the characters are clear to understand however there are little flashbacks to previous books that may not make sense if you haven’t read them. That being said they don’t take anything away from this book or make it confusing.

We are back with Petrosky on the hunt for a killer. When a woman turns up dead and mutilated he fears this maybe a serial killer. He thinks his suspicious are confirmed when another woman turns up. Is this the same killer or a copycat?

With no leads to follow things take another twist when his boss is kidnapped. After helping Petrosky battle his demons this case now takes on a personal aspects. When he won’t bend to the kidnappers demands its now a race against time to save the one person who cared for him.

4 Stars!!!!

This is the first book by this author I have read and I was not let down. I really like books that are based on historical events and peoples. I like how the author was able to bring the characters to life. There was drama mixed in with bits of intrigue and draws the reader in. I was unable to put this book down.

I really like how there are a lot of twist and turns. I also like how this being the first book really sets up the series to come. I found that the author has a unique style and is able to wind the story around the characters and the sort of dangled ending to this first book really leaves the reader wanting more . I will definitely read more from this author as well as this series. I am quite eager to see how it will progress.

These just keep getting better and better. The author does an amazing job bringing these characters and story to life. I can easily picture Petrosky in my head. His gruffness, how he speaks his mind no matter what and how grouchy he comes off but is a marshmallow with those he cares about. Even Jackson I am getting to like. Still missing Morrison but a female partner brings out a new side of Petrosky.

This one shocked and surprised me. This author has a knack of telling a story but never letting the reader “figure it out”. I love that. She easily draws me into the story with the perfect amount of suspense and familiarization. Even the smiles all due to Petrosky’s smart mouth. When he became fixated on a wasp nest and Decantor in here. I couldn’t help but smile….big!

Overall another outstanding story from Meghan O’Flynn. Filled with gritty, sadistic, sassy characters. I can’t wait for more.

Composed: An Ash Park Novel (Volume 8)
Composed is the gripping eighth book in the Ash Park Series by Meghan O’Flynn. This series just seems to get grittier, and more compelling the further we go. Each instalment manages to slightly eclipse the previous book- leading me on an intense, thrilling, mind-boggling ride- and giving me many chills and thrills along the way.
As with all the other books in the series, I was completely invested and entirely absorbed by the story. I gave up valuable sleep time to stay up reading, because I couldn’t put it down for a minute, I just had to know how everything played out before I could ‘let go’. But even after closing the book, the story stayed on my mind as I appreciated how cleverly crafted it was- while also anticipating what Book #9 may hold.
Detective Edward Petrosky has been battling his demons, through the series, but even more so in this book. He is put to the test when he has to hunt down a cold-blooded serial killer, deal with his personal issues, and try to save his only ‘real’ friend. The stakes are high, time is of the essence, and the killer is a twisted psychopath. So, with a lot hanging in the balance, everything hinges on Petrosky- and whether or not he can wrestle his demons into submission.
Compelling Reading!

Thank you, Meghan O’Flynn!
