DEADLY WEAPON (Jake Wolfe Book 5) by Mark Nolan – Review by Shannen Kern

Deadly Weapon (Jake Wolfe, #5)Deadly Weapon by Mark Nolan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the fifth book in the Jake Wolfe Thrillers Series, and it has made itself a staple in my library. I get tremendously excited when I hear there is another book in the series coming out. The amount of times Jake and Cody have saved others increases with each book, but have they met their match? This threat is the biggest yet, and it just seems like they are up against insurmountable odds. Full of suspense, danger, and twists around each chapter, you’ll find yourself struggling to put this book down just so you can find out what happens next. I do enjoy that the author brings in characters from past books in the series, but you can still read this as a standalone. You’ll run to pick up the rest of the series once you read one!

Deadly Weapon
By; Mark Nolan

Every once in a while an author creates a character that I find myself consistently wanting to read more of. Mark Nolan created this in the character is Jake Wolfe. I am so excited everytime I see that there is a new Jake Wolfe book for me to read. I know that it will be a book that sucks me in and sends me on a fast paced suspenseful ride. This story definitely ups the suspense factor as it seems so much more realistic than some of his past books. Not that any of the others were far fetched but I think it is really because the story hits so close to home for me. This is book 5 in the series, but each and every book so far would be able to be read as a standalone. But I definitely recommend you read each of the series as you will be entered into the world of Jake Wolfe.

Jake and Cody are inseparable and now they are facing a deadly virus that is threatening to wipe out humanity. All Jake wanted was to get some rest from recent events and take a relaxing fishing trip but here he is, finding himself in another intense situation.

Full of plot twists, drama, and action, this one is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. While it can be read as a stand alone, don’t cheat yourself out of the other amazing adventures of Jake and Cody.

Deadly Weapon (Jake Wolfe, #5)Deadly Weapon by Mark Nolan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Deadly Weapon is the fifth book in the Jake Wolfe Thriller series and can be read as a stand alone. Reading the previous books does help with the character development but is not necessary for the story and plot line. Action, danger, and trouble seems to follow Jake and his ex-war dog, Cody and this time is no different. Deadly Weapon focuses on something we have all recently dealt with…a global pandemic of a deadly virus. Now Jake and his beloved sidekick/dog must get to the bottom of who/what has caused the spread, and ultimately get it stopped before things get worse. I did like this one more than the previous ones as it was somewhat relatable and had a lot of issues we face going on in it. That being said, what can Jake NOT do? He has done so much in just five books, and keeps changing careers and gets his hands dirty in everything he does. I like the action and danger, but it becomes unbelievable and makes me lose the immersion that I love in a book. Still a great read and plenty of people will love this series for the fast paced craziness that always happens. I still adore Cody most of all, he is such a loyal and clever companion and always knows just what to do! I will continue the series to see what other trouble these two can get into next.

Deadly Weapon (Jake Wolfe #5)Deadly Weapon by Mark Nolan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Deadly Weapon is the 5th book in the Jake Wolfe series by Mark Nolan. I have read them all, but you don’t have to read them in order. The story definitely continues as far as Jake and Cody’s friendships but there is enough background information provided to enjoy, starting anywhere in the series. I like these books because they are a good suspense with a touch of mystery and humor. When I first started, I thought it was weird how Nolan writes about Cody’s feelings and thoughts, but now I’m used it it and it doesn’t phase me. This story hits a little too close to home, with COVID 19 happening right now. At the end of the book the author does say how he started this book long before the epidemic started. However, a lot of the details are close to the conspiracy theories out there. Over all, well written book and great addition to the series. Highly recommend it.

What a great read!! I have been enjoying this series from the beginning. I love reading about the adventure that Jake and Cody find themselves on. This book is full of action, danger, suspense, twists and turns and so much more. I was happy to see that characters from the other books were brought to this one. It’s always a pleasure to read the pages that have Cody talking. I found myself on the edge of my seat throughout most of this book. The author is an exceptional writer that keeps me entertained and I find it impossible to put the book down until I finish it. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book.

5 out of 5 stars

Wow I really enjoyed book 5 the Deadly weapon than the other books in this series. I have always liked Jake and Cody and how resilient they can be in minutes. These characters are amazing and the plot is intense.
Jake and Cody are in trouble yet again trying to save the world. It seems like every time Jake takes a vacation its always cut short. Jake is Alaska visiting his friend Tuktu, a fellow combat veteran, now has a fishing guide business. While fishing Jake and Cody her something and look up and see helicopter come into view, and its coming in fast and he knows something is up.
He checks his phone and notices a few missed calls and when he answers McKay asks if she can trust him and the next thing you know he is cutting his trip short to head back. After Loading the helicopter, they find Ron one of the best pilots around was with Ron was with Tuktu in Somalia.
Where is Jake going? Can he catch the bad guys before they set of the deadly weapon that will destroy the word?
You will have to read this story in can be read as a standalone but I advise to read all the books in this series….

Deadly Weapon (Jake Wolfe #5)Deadly Weapon by Mark Nolan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Deadly Weapon is the fifth book in Mark Nolan’s Jake Wolfe series and Jake and Cody are back to save the world! They are in Alaska for some hard earned time out, fishing salmon and taking in the awesomeness that is Alaska. Jake has turned off the rest of the world so it is just him, Cody and his friend Tuktu … but obviously, like always, something goes wrong and their services are needed … this time to stop rouge operatives who are working on a weapon of mass destruction. You can read the story as a standalone as the writer gives us a story in its own rights in each of the books but as there are characters that you meet from story to story and you will want to be part of the journey that Jake and Cody are on then I suggest you start from the beginning … I promise you will fall in love with both Jake and Cody and even if you are not so fond of dogs, you dream of having a dog like Cody so in this story I am really excited about Cody’s puppies!
The story pulls you in from chapter 1 and you are thrown up in the air on a halo that takes you on one heck of a ride filled with action and danger and assassins while dodging hidden agendas and explosions … I love how the writer utilises the multiple POV’s as it helps us to go even deeper into the storyline, the extensive research he does for each of his Jake Wolfe books is mind blowing so that means every story I read I constantly keep pinching myself and I find myself wondering what if … Thank you for these tense suspense filled hours and I cannot wait to see what is next in store for Jake and Cody (and Sarah and Skye)!

DEADLY WEAPON (Jake Wolfe Book 5) by Mark Nolan – Review by Francis O’Sullivan

Deadly Weapon (Jake Wolfe #5)Deadly Weapon by Mark Nolan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Deadly Weapon is the fifth action-packed adventure in Mark Nolan’s Jake Wolfe series. Jake is a former marine who can’t seem to sit still (or in this case, fish in peace) without getting roped into some top secret, high stakes mission. His service dog, Cody, is also a former marine and his training makes him an indispensable part of the team.
The plot of Deadly Weapon centres around a biological weapon involving a deadly and highly contagious virus. So if you’re looking for a book that will take your mind off COVID-19, this ain’t it. But it’s a good story and for me being very aware of the damage a virus like that can do and how slow the process is to find a vaccine enhanced the tension and urgency of the story.
I really like Cody, the dog. He’s very characterful and loveable! I particularly like the scenes that are from Cody’s point of view (the whole story uses third person over-the-shoulder narration, moving occasionally between different perspectives). From Cody’s perspective, we encounter the world primarily through scent and are reminded of his loyalty and drive to carry out his orders.
In Deadly Weapon, we get to visit some great places including Alaska and Hawaii. In amongst the action, it’s lovely to get a sense of different scenery (and food!).
For me, this is a five star book. I’d recommend this to dog people who enjoy fast-paced action! If you’re particularly after a virus-themed story this works fine as a standalone, but it’s an enjoyable series so why not check out the other books as well!

Deadly Weapon by Mark Nolan is book five of the Jake Wolfe series. Though it’s part of the series, this book can also be read as a standalone. This book is non stop action and does well at holding your attention! This book all too well can be related to real life which pulls you in even further because you think ‘what if’.

Jake and his ever faithful war dog Cody are at it again. So much happens in this book I couldn’t possibly do it justice but I’ll say, it all starts with a trip to Alaska. I’m sure when Jake planned to go fishing he had no idea what would happen next.

This book is so timely with everything happening in the world right now related to COVID. Totally relatable and definitely pulls you in!

Deadly Weapon (Jake Wolfe #5) by Mark Nolan was a great 5 star read.
Once I started I couldn’t put it down, we get another great story from Jake and Cody.

Jake and Cody are working on stopping a deadly weapon from killing lots of innocent people. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was coming next.

Will they be able to stop the weapon in time?

We get multiple POV’s which I really enjoy. We get action, mystery, adventure and so much more. There are several twists and turns that added a great element to the story. This book can be read as a standalone. The author does a great job with his writing and pulls you right in. DEADLY WEAPON (Jake Wolfe Book 5) by Mark Nolan, I have really become a fan of this author. I really like action-packed stories and this one gives me all that and more. Almost from the first rattle out of the bag Jake is in deep and from there it’s a roller coaster ride of one situation after another. I love the subtle romance between Jake and his girlfriend she is truly his match and tough-as-nails. As qualified and capable as Jake is he is not a “just follow orders” type of guy, he made the only decision that made sense in the end. This is a timely book, (read coronavirus), even though it was written before the events of this year, so be sure to read the fact sheet at the end about what is real and what is not real, I really enjoyed them. This is a great read and I’d recommend this author to anybody.

I have read all of Jake Wolfe’s adventures. I love each one more than the last one. Mark Nolan is a mastermind. He makes Jake go through some incredible adventures. In this one Jake deals with a psycho who is trying to change it. Like the other Jake’s stories there is a lot of action. That is one great thing about Mark Nolan, he keeps the readers engaged with all of the twists and turns, I was at the edge of my seat several times. I have not read one book in this series that I have not loved but between you and me I think this is my favourite. Mark knows his stuff and delivers great writing and vivid details. Truth be told I always walk away from Mark’s work learning something I didn’t know. The adventure does not let up and continues all the way through this enticing and enthralling, thrill ride. Another great story featuring Jake Wolfe and his war dog Cody. This one is non-stop action. If Jake isn’t taking down a plane he is running from a drone shooting at him. He is one guy that would be great to know but yet he wouldn’t because he always brings his work home. l need to say that I love his attitude. He has confidence in getting the job done anyway and anyhow which leads to his cockiness. Cody is just as animated as always. I love when we get chapters or snippets of a story from his POV. It’s always interesting.

We do get to see a large number of returning characters. From his girlfriend Sarah to Grinds his former military friend. I love all of this large cast. They each add to the story yet don’t overpower it.

As always I love reading the “Dear Reader” at the end of the book. Give it a look if you want behind the story scenes. This one might give nightmares.

I can only say Next Please!

This book seems in step with the events of 2020 given the subject matter. If you need an escape from current events, this particular book may not be one you want to read until everything calms down.

However, don’t dismiss it entirely. Deadly Weapon is a great read with a ton of action and adventure mixed in with a bit of mystery and danger.

I love the interaction between Jake and Cody. Of course, who doesn’t love an intelligent dog as a side kick? One of my favorite parts of the story is the sidecar bit where Cody is enjoying the ride, in spite of the danger.

Overall, I found Deadly Weapon to be an intense and entertaining read.

☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
This is such an intense story. With what is going on in the US, this story touched life as I know it at this time. This is a must read!

Jake Wolfe and his trusted partner Cody are at it again. They are a great team and I swear Cody reads Jakes thoughts before they are said. What a Strong powerful team. I want them on my side, that’s for sure! Jake is fighting against time and what could be the end of the population as we know it. Evil has entered and it must be stopped. One criminal at a time. Read how this thriller plays out.

Mark Nolan once again graced my tablet, with this suspenseful story. It is a page turning book you will enjoy as much as I did. Jake and Cody are the best characters in this story. But they are not the only ones. This story has many groups for and against Jack and Cody. You will also get all the feels, laughter, sorrow, anger, and even a little romance. When Jake is not jumping from planes and swimming in the ocean. Sure wish I could give this book more than 5 ☆’s! Well done Mark Nolan, Well done!

Deadly Weapon by Mark Nolan a thrilling five-star read. This is number five in the Jake Wolfe series and they could be read as stand-alone but do read better as a series, Jake and Cody are off for some relaxing time in this one, or so they desire. Sadly, for Jake fishing doesn’t go to plan, as life never seems to, does it. This is a compelling action filled read where the action really does leap off the page, the detail this author goes into is phenomenal the reality is scary especially at the moment. I have enjoyed all of these stories but this one just pulled put all of the stops for me. There really is a little of everything in this story, and you will be sorry to miss it. The anticipation in this story will have you on the edge all the way through, its terse and gripping and just a great story overall.

This is the 5th action packed novel in the Jake Wolfe series from Mark Nolan. I would think by now you would want to read the first books to follow along the journey of Jake Wolfe and his trusty sidekick Cody. I have really enjoyed every installment in this series but Deadly Weapon is taking the first place for my absolute favorite so far. I do hope we will keep getting these wild stories. I love how Nolan can suck you into the adventure literally from the very first page until the mind bending final chapter.

In Deadly Weapon we find Jake on a mission to stop a ‘deadly weapon’ from killing millions including the ones he holds most dear. The adventure is a nail biter and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together, and cheering for Jake to come out on top and victorious. This is one you don’t wanna miss, especially if you love adrenaline pumping story lines. I can’t wait to see what will come next!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Deadly Weapon by Mark Nolan is the fifth book in the Jake Wolfe series. This book can be read as a standalone although I would recommend reading it in order as it follows the same character throughout and I feel you would miss of a lot of the previous development.
I found this book to be a really intense and thrilling story to read. I instantly got straight back into the character of Jake, almost like I had gone from one book straight into the next. Their new mission is one that is scarily close to home right now but for me I think that just made it all the better. You couldn’t help but draw parallels between the 2. But the credit really does have to go to the author for creating a book that feels so real that it is like you are there with Jake.
This series really is a fantastic one to read. Each book just gets better and better and I am always excited to pick up the next book. I would definitely highly recommend not just this book but the series as a whole!

Deadly Weapon is the adrenaline-charged fifth book in the Jake Wolfe series by Mark Nolan. I just can’t get enough of this series- and I don’t think I will ever tire of following Jake and Cody on one of their exciting ‘adventures’- so I hope Mark Nolan has got a well-spring of storyline ideas firing up his imagination, to ensure we keep getting new instalments of Jake Wolfe for many years to come. No pressure, Mr. Nolan.
As this story’s title suggests, Jake and Cody are thrust in a race against time to prevent a deadly weapon of mass destruction from being deployed. They will need to use all their skills, as well as work with others, in order to save billions of lives. So as you can imagine, this proved to be quite a thrilling and action-packed read- with drama, danger, adventure, mystery, edge-of-your-seat tension, twists & turns, assassins, a power hungry madman, hidden agendas, secret organisations, violence, murder, gun fights, explosions, and so much more.
I was pulled in right from the beginning, reading the entire book in one sitting- just so I could find out how everything plays out in the end. As with the previous books, this story is told from multiple POV’s- giving me a fuller perspective of what was happening. This allowed me to have a much richer reading experience, because I had so much more information to work with.
Again, as with all the books in this series, the characters are truly fantastic- they are so well developed, crafted into fully-realised individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws. As expected, I especially love how incredibly detailed and developed Cody’s personality is, too- it’s this attention to detail that really sets this book/series apart from others in the same genre!
The story can definitely be read as a standalone- but as there are recurring characters, as well as important details which have helped to forge the characters, as well as containing backstory details- which really help to build a bigger picture and knowing what has happened previously, and how much Jake and Cody have been through together- would give you a far richer reading experience of this story.
I could go on and on about every little detail of this fantastic book- but instead I will sign off here so you can grab yourself a copy and dive in asap- highly recommended!
I can’t wait to see what Jake and Cody get up to next in “Key West Dead” (Book Six)!

Thank you, Mark Nolan, for another riveting read!

Mr. Nolan, I was truly saddened to read your afterward and offer my deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved brother, Marty. He would be so touched that you continue to write in his memory ❣
