The Something Series (Box Set Books 1-3) by Aubrey Bondurant – Review by Tracy Wilkin

The Something Series - Box Set Books 1-3: (Tell Me Something, Ask Me Something & Bet Me Something)The Something Series – Box Set Books 1-3: by Aubrey Bondurant
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Something Series – Box Set Books 1-3 by Aubrey Bondurant is a fantastic series. This series introduced me to Aubrey Bondurant, and I am so grateful I found these books.

Tell Me Something was an exciting and fast paced romance full of action, romance, emotion and intensity. This romance with a difference packs an effective punch and has me craving more. Josh and Haylee shared a connection which provided many moments of blazing fireworks, blinding passion, heated arguing, everlasting love.

Aubrey Bondurant delivered a classic, yet original tale of two troubled souls meeting and finding their way to a happily ever after while kicking and fighting the attraction for each other, every step of the way. This author wrote a beautifully broken love story that leaves a lasting impression.

Ask Me Something is the story of Sasha and Brian, who provided unending entertainment and all those highly anticipated emotional feels. Brian feels an intense attraction to Sasha, but he is more forthcoming in what he wants, to a degree. He is an easygoing character that is likeable and charismatic. He was easy to relate to, as he was not as complex as Sasha. Sasha was much more guarded but still lovable, whereas Brian had that casual happy go lucky personality that was easy to become immersed in. It was a real thrill to uncover all that was Sasha and Brian.

Again, Aubrey Bondurant delivered a gutsy, drama driven story that captured my complete attention, and was thoroughly entertaining, dramatic and electrifying. A highly sensual tale that I finished way too quickly. This book is one to savour, not rush through. A true pleasure to read.

Bet Me Something is Mark and Juliette’s story, and it was one I craved the most. Mark was shrouded in mystery and had the more tortured past. Mark and Juliette both had scars from the past that held them back, which made reading their story much more appealing. Their journey was a rocky and rough, but what great love story didn’t have a few dents and scars from the ups and downs. Those trials just make for a more beautiful ending and made Mark and Juliette work that little bit harder to find their way to one another. Their love was hard fought and well deserved.

Show Me Something was a brilliant finale to a stunning series. I reached the end with a feeling of contentment and a full heart. While I was sad to reach the end so soon, I take away with me an incredible experience and a new one click author. Aubrey Bondurant gives readers unforgettable stories that will captivate and steal your heart, while leaving a special memory to cherish always.

A single dad with no time for temptation…

Webb Walters walked on the wild side. Fed his addictions. Lost everything and disappointed those he cared about. His emotional scars prove it. He finally has his life together until he discovers the five-year-old daughter he never knew existed.

What does a guy do with hair scrunchies and bedtime stories?

Stock figures and startups are his priorities. Not dolls and dresses.

His daughter needs him. He can’t fail. Not at this.
Then Lily Rose offers to help out. Beautiful Lily, with her funky clothes and her love for old 80s hair bands.
He has to admit that she has a way with kids. But she also has a way with him. Revving his motor too hot without even trying. She’s everything he shouldn’t desire—too sweet, too inexperienced, too addictive.

Fatal Legislation by Ellen Butler – Review by Moriah Venable

Fatal Legislation: A Novel: Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 2Fatal Legislation: A Novel: Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 2 by Ellen Butler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fatal Legislation is the second novel in the Katrina Cardinal mystery series by Ellen Butler. This is my second novel by this author.

While having a heated discussion with Senator Harper, Katrina is shocked and surprised when he falls at her feet dead. What makes matters worse is when she becomes a “person of interest” and find out that someone hacked into his pacemaker.

Katrina starts her own investigation to discover who would want the senator dead and why.

With this being my first political mystery, I highly enjoyed it. I love Katrina and how she handles situations.

The novel was well paced and kept me hooked. I may start to read more in this genre.

I hope there is more to this series.

I’m happy with this novel being my final read of the year and highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a quick mystery to read.

Surviving Jordan (Surviving Series Book #3) by Virginia Wine – Review by Angela Hayes

Surviving Jordan (Surviving Series Book 3)Surviving Jordan by Virginia Wine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Surviving Jordan is the third book in the Surviving series by Virginia Wine. I know I said this about the previous instalment, but this story has become my favourite of the series so far. There is quite a lot going on in this book, so much to like- with action, suspense, some mystery, intrigue, longing, tension, secrets, drama, incredible chemistry, and of course romance.
Ms. Wine has created a complex story, full of interconnected details/characters/storylines. It is very cleverly done and adds an extra element of interest to the whole story/series.
The tension and suspense were built really well throughout this story and kept me avidly reading to discover what happens.
Ben And Jordan are fantastic characters, and I loved seeing Steel in the story too, as I started this series on Book four which is Steel’s story and then went back to the beginning of the series to read the rest of the books.
Now I can’t wait for the next book!

Thank you, Ms. Wine!

Whew! This was my first introduction to this author. She has a unique voice and point of view. I was immediately intrigued by the book’s summary and my reading of it definitely did not disappoint. The plot developed quickly and the author did a beautiful job drawing the reader in and causing us to care about the main character. Very well written. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and enjoyed it from beginning to end. I look forward to reading more from Butler in the future.

Surviving Eden (Surviving Series Book 1)Surviving Eden by Virginia Wine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Surviving Eden by Virginia Wine is book one of the Surviving Series. This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I was not disappointed. I absolutely enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read book two!

Theo has experienced an extreme tragedy. Because of that, he is effective in his role as a psychiatrist. When he meets Eden, she is the light to his darkness. He doesn’t expect to feel what he feels for Eden and he does his best to convince himself that he can’t act on the feelings he has for her.

Eden has recently experienced her own tragedy and can’t help but feel drawn to Theo. As much as he thinks he can help her, she knows she can help him too. Theo needs Eden and nothing about their circumstances will keep them apart.

This book drew me in and I couldn’t put it down!! I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait to finish the series.

The Progeny Assassin A Tarnished Lands Story by P.A. Wikoff

Four Stars

The Progeny Assassin was n interesting read. The author wrote about Lara finding her true potential. The lies and betrayal felt from many characters. I didn’t enjoy the length of the story. It was a lot to read. With that being said I was intrigued by the main character and how her mind worked. It was pure instincts and a little logic. The characters were well developed. There was too much dialogue in every chapter. It was information overload. I did like the direction the author took there wasn’t some great love to make her see the right path. She is on a journey to find answers and her true self.

The Progeny Assassin: A Tarnished Lands Story (Forgotten Woods Book 2) by P.A. Wikoff continues the fantasy saga. I was concerned because I read the first book awhile back and was afraid I would be lost. Luckily this book can be read as a standalone because it is a continuation in the same land. The attention to detail is amazing yet again and places you in this nightmare world. Lara is complacent about her life but things soon change. She is fierce and strong. I really enjoyed reading her story. I look forward to reading the next book in this series and learning more about the Tarnished Lands.

Hope's Defeat (The Fated #3)Hope’s Defeat by Angela McPherson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hope’s Defeat (The Fated Book 3) by Angela McPherson is another amazing paranormal fantasy book in this series. Angela has certainly written a series that is great and one that everyone should read and is one of my all time favourites. The characters are wonderful and some of my favourites of any series. With Gods, Demi gods, based on Greek mythology with a twist and combined with paranormal, it is a winner. This book takes up where the last one left off and is just as fantastic as the others if not better. In this book the fight for light and dark, good and evil continues but is the biggest fight to date with twists and turns you don’t always see coming. Angela has woven another magical, mystical, mysterious masterpiece that is original take on Pandora’s box. This tale will keep you glued to your seat as you journey along and help fight the evil invading their world.

Hope's Defeat (The Fated #3)Hope’s Defeat
ByAngela McPherson
My Rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hope’s Defeat (The Fated #3) by Angela McPherson was the epic conclusion I was hoping for.

The third and final book in The Fate series, we are taking on a heart stopping journey that has more than one life on the line. I have to say, this is what I’ve been waiting for from this series. Just some housekeeping before we start, this is part of a continuation series, and each book picks up where the last leaves off. So I highly suggest reading the first two books, if not you will be lost and confused. And you will not be able to appreciate the progress and development our characters had displayed throughout. (Especially the MC)

I did have some issues with the other books, but held on as I knew there was something epical great hidden deep within this wonderful dark world, that Angela McPherson has created. I do still have some minor things, but again that all has to do with the MC, and frankly at this point, there’s no need to get into it, as this is the last book.

What I want to stress is how freaking stoked I am about this book. It had a compelling plot, dangerous, dark and heartbreaking. The action starts pretty much right out of the gate, as does the race against time. And Blain, man oh man, I’m starting to wonder if the author hates him or something. Poor guy can’t catch a break. But in all seriousness, that turn brought that extra desperate layer that I believe was missing from the other books. Ethics and morals come into play, and for me, finally got me to like Trinity.

If you haven’t guessed from my gushing, I highly recommend this book, and this series. It gets my high stamp of approval, and my hope you will add this wonder to your collection.

Happy Reading

Paladin’s Hell: Satan’s Devils MC (Colorado Chapter) #1 by Manda Mellett – Review by Maura Harper

Paladin's Hell: Satan's Devils MC (Colorado Chapter) #1Paladin’s Hell: Satan’s Devils MC (Colorado Chapter) #1 by Manda Mellett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

PALADIN’S HELL is part of the Satan’s Devil world written by Manda Mellett. Each story features a new M/C member while revisiting others that have had or will have their stories told. This is a new chapter of the original AZ club set in CO. Different weather, different state, different vibe. So many things to get used to.

The first story is one that began a long time ago (in the book world). Paladin and Jayden met several books ago so this is a long anticipated story. They have to relocate which is how we are introduced to the CO chapter of Satan’s Devils. In addition to Pal and Jay, we are introduced to this chapter of the club in it’s entirety. Each member and their role are described in detail so there is never any question as to who is who. It will be fun getting to know each of them as the series continues.

What I enjoyed about the story was the “mature couple”. True life situations are discussed that normally do not appear in books. Hot flashes may have been mentioned too many times, but they also happen too many times in real life 😉 The interplay between all of the characters kept the story moving along.

There are a couple of story lines to follow. The story contains a bit of suspense, budding romance, tragic backstories and long standing relationships.

I think this new series is going to be a good one and I am looking forward to reading Demon’s story next.

Rising Star by Susannah Nix
Rated 4 stars

This is a wonderful story with two characters who have heart. Alice is used to being invisible. She works in the background on a TV show. She is also working towards her PHD. In doing that she ran across an unsavory character who changed her outlook on men. Griffin is an actor and dang if I’m not impressed with him. I never realized what an actor goes through to look good on screen. When Alice eats junk food IN FRONT of him…the willpower?!?! Impressive! His reaction to dairy?? Orgasmic! When he tells Alice “I miss you more than dairy”. I couldn’t help smiling my face off.

This is my second book by Susannah Nix. I enjoyed this story and fell in love with these two characters. It seemed a bit slow at first but picked up fairly quickly. There are fun and quirky moments along with more serious ones. I did read it in one day so there is that. ….and i almost wanted to cry at the end. I’ll be keeping an eye out for her next book.

Surviving the Storm (Surviving Series Book 2)Surviving the Storm by Virginia Wine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Surviving the Storm is the second book in Virginia Wine’s mind blowing Surviving Series. You should not read this story as a standalone as it has all the characters from the first book and you will feel at loss not knowing what had happened and how it all is linked!
Surviving the Storm gives us Alex’ story – Alex Kincaid Storm the third, who we met already in book one. A man who is NOT afraid of his feelings! A man that is the first to say that he is hurting, that he has found something that is so deep under his skin that he cannot imagine letting it go after only one night … And then we have Madison Perry, who is suffering but who still is able to recognize what it means to be truly loved and that just after one night …
The writer gives us insta love, suspense, action, drama, great chemistry, danger and secrets … so many secrets and lies … the story pulls you in and the characters won’t let you go! They bring you along on an emotional rollercoaster and there are moments when you feel that you want off and you simply do not have heart to read more as you experienced along with them what they were going through …
It is a great second book and as I have already read the fourth one (naughty me) then I know that the third one will blow us all out of water as well! Please keep on going and keep us gracing with more stories that remind us of our humanity and the power of love!

Hope's Defeat (The Fated #3)Hope’s Defeat by Angela McPherson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Hope’s Defeat (The Fated Book 3) by Angela McPherson, 4 stars.
**This review contains spoilers from previous books in the series.**

The evil darkness now took over Blain. Trinity doesn’t know what to do anymore. She promised to never stop. But so many Watchers have died trying to rescue him. So she decides to take matters into her own hands. But it’s not that easy. Melia was nothing compared to the new evil that is lurking. Cronus. An evil god who was locked away and now wants to come back and take over. But will Trinity give him what he wants just to get Blain back? If she does, then what?

I have enjoyed this series and this book is no exception. Trinity has really stepped up to take on the responsibilities required of her. But she still struggles. She is tired of everything getting worse. This makes her real and likable because she is not perfect. Her family and friends really play parts in this too. They have to accept what she really is and her role in all this. The people are what make this book and series. But the story is great too. One enemy has been defeated, but there is one even worse. A god. And the other gods cannot and will not help. This was an interesting addition to this book.

Overall, this was a great book and I highly recommend it to young adult and older lovers of fantasy and urban fantasy who also enjoy a strong female lead character.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great read about fate. Theodora thinks she has it all happy in a new marriage with Sam. But fate deals her a hand when she feels ill and accidnelty finds her soul mate. Lyzander has a busy schedule as head boss of vampires and no time for a soul mate. But when fate deals him a hand in Theodora, will he take a chance of push her away?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns. Well developed characters like Theodora standing up for herself but struggling with a new world or Lyzander harsh exterior but kind underneath. I loved how the story started straight into the action with the fight scenes. I loved the different take on vampires with their souls and soulmates adding to the vampire genre.
I loved the mix of fantasy with vampires and then realism of the business world and party scenes combined together beautifully. Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars

What an incredible start to a new series from author Manda Mellett. This read, Paladin’s Hell is book 1 in the Satan’s Devils MC Colorado Chapter and boy oh boy has it been an rollercoaster ride from start till finish. This author has an amazing writing style that pulls you in from the very beginning with the twists and turns, the danger, suspense and action throughout, You will be on the edge of your seat with the incredible plotline and amazing characters that bring passion, romance and an amazing connection.

With this being my first read from this author, I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew I would enjoy it just for the pure fact it was an MC Novel, but this author has opened my eyes to her writing and I can’t wait to see what else she does.
To make this read even better Manda Mellett, has written it in dual POV’s from various characters which make it even better to understand each character, their actions, their feelings. Jayden & Paladin’s story is real, raw, painful and a rollercoaster, but that being said they are connectable, real and strong but can their relationship and connection survive the ups & downs they are about to face?

This is a definite must read, that shouldn’t be missed! I can’t wait for the next one!

There were so many heart stopping moments in this book. You didn’t know who to trust. With many twists and turns, the author kept you on the edge of your seat. Like any war, there were losses and people had to make sacrifices. Some of them saddened me while others shocked me. This was an amazing conclusion to the Confectioner Chronicles. Though the ending satisfied me, I was a little upset. I enjoyed this series so much that I was sad to see it end. Thank you Ms Luana for bringing this world and these characters to life.

The Lies We TellThe Lies We Tell by Brittany Butler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Lies We Tell was a great 5 star read. I was pulled in right from the beginning and didn’t stop until I was done.

I’m Natalie Conner, and I’m a liar.

Natalie is a writer, we start in the very beginning with her as a runaway bride, leaving Jack behind. We then jump ahead to her at a party where she meets a hot british man, Collin who is also a writer and wants to be friends. We then jump ahead three years, she is now married to the brit and wondering where her life changed so much.

He doesn’t know he just fell in love with the queen of running

We continue to jump from past to present We get to see just how the relationship developed and how they got to where they were and where Natalie’s journey takes her from there. There are twists and turns and people from the past come back into Natalie’s life.

My emotions were all over the place. We get hot sex scenes, LOL moments, a huge betrayal, and so much more. My heart went out to Natalie and what she had to deal with. Up until the epilogue I wasn’t sure how this was going to end and I have to say I was surprised with where Jack, Natalie, Tabatha and Collin ended up in their lives. I was pulled right in by Brittany Butler’s writing and I look forward to reading more from her.

The Progeny Assassin: A Tarnished Lands StoryThe Progeny Assassin: A Tarnished Lands Story by P.A. Wikoff

A great read about growing up. Lara is a reckless and daring young girl. As a feathered folk, she seeks to protect her dying forest from invaders but never takes it seriously. When her master suddenly goes missing, Lara sets out to find her, thinking it will be like one of the great quest narratives she loves to read. But the world is full of surprises and dangers Lara never knew. existed. Can she survive it all and find her master?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Lara as bold and daring but vulnerable and childlike underneath or the master as the stern mentor figure.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel with the sense of destruction with the burnt out trees and dead grass and ash with memories of what was there like the pink lake or the fresh wind for a sense of loss. And the wonderful magical sense of the mist and the moon later on for Lara as a source of unexpected happiness.
I loved the sense of the bildungsroman narrative as we watch Lara grow up and find her way through thinga. This along with the childlike nature of discovery and adventure was beautifully written. I also enjoyed the metanarratives with Lara’s vivid sense of imagination and were poignant in how reality can be harsher. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.

This was a great anthology with some fantastic stories – there is definitely something for everyone here in this collection. The two stories from this anthology that I am reviewing are Foxxy’s Christmas by Allyson R Abbott and A Kiss Under a Blue Christmas Moon by Tamara Ferguson.

Foxxy’s Christmas – Allyson R Abbott
This wonderful author never fails to entertain me with her wonderful writing and Christmas stories! I have read quite a few by her and I love them all. After I have finished reading them I always feel all warm and fuzzy inside and this one was no exception. The characters in the story were great and I could feel the wonderful connection that they had.

A Kiss Under a Blue Christmas Moon – Tamara Ferguson
I love a second chance romance story and one set at Christmas is always going to be a winner for me and this story was just that! I loved every second of it. I have read a few stories by this author and she never fails to drag me on into her stories straight away and she always creates characters that I instantly fall in love with.

A really great set of stories that I highly recommend!

Fatal Legislation: A Novel: Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 2 by Ellen Butler – Review by Krystal Gregory

Fatal Legislation: Karina Cardinal Mystery Book 2 by Ellen Butler
4 out of 5 stars

This book stars with a bang. I love a really good mystery and this book delivers. This second installment in the Karina Cardinal series is just as good as the second. We see characters from the first novel and we are introduced to characters who are specific to this novel.
When Karina becomes the main suspect in the murder of a senator, she launches into her own Nancy Drew style of investigation to figure out who could be behind the murder of a Washington Senator and why they are trying to frame her. I won’t go into to many more details as I feel it will give away too much of the book, but if you are fans of John Grisham, and Nancy Drew/Hardy Brothers investigation, you will love this book.

I love this author so I was really excited to see that she had a new chapter of one of my favourite series coming out and it did not disappoint at all! She never fails to get my hooked into her stories within the first few pages and I know I am going to fall helplessly in love with her characters. The way the author has chosen to write this from a multiple point of view I honestly thought I was going to be confused but I wasn’t at all – it was really easy to follow and I felt like I got to understand all of the characters so much better. I got to see deeper into their friendships/relationships and feel the connections that they had. I think this definitely has to be my favourite book by this author so far and if you have read any of the Satan’s Devils stories then you will 100% love this new spin off series! I can’t wait for more!!
