Revenge Never Rests (Tallie Brown Suspense Book 2) by Laurie Lewis – Review by Tanya Wall, December 2022

Revenge Never RestsRevenge Never Rests by Laurie L.C. Lewis
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is book 2 in a series. I did not read book 1. While it was good as a stand alone, I think it would be better for the backstories to read book 1 first. In this book we meet Tallie. She is a strong woman character who is on the search for the answer to the disappearance of a missing girl and then of a General Kaswell. Jackson and Tallie have a strong connection and have to make a decision as to whether they should work together or separately. This happens just as she discovered who her real father is.
Throughout this story, there is intrigue, conspiracy and high action. It kept my attention and was a good read on a really long car ride over the holidays. If you like this type of genre, you would rate it much higher than a three.

This was a cute story. It shows that with enough determination anything can get done. I like that it pulled the entire community together and especially a book store in a time when a lot of books are readily available electronically.

What a fun read!!! This very talented author created a great storyline with such lovable characters that you just wanted to keep reading from the very first word. I am not much of a reality tv watcher myself but I loved reading this authors take on this type of show. She created such vividly described surroundings and events that you really left like you could see everyone and everything as it was happening. I loved the characters Finn and Abi right from the very start even if Finn was at times giving me as much whiplash as he was giving Abi! More than a few times I wanted to yell at them to just damn well talk to each other LOL. They totally captivated my heart! Even the side line characters had me wanting to know more about them. I am looking forward to more not only from this series but from this wonderful author in general.

This is book two in the series. It’s just as good as the first one. After getting an invitation to the Winter Revel, thanks to the Duke de Archambeau, Elinor believes that she will enjoy a nice vacation eating delicious food. Unfortunately when there is an attempt on the King’s life, Elinor and the Duke join for es once again. With finding the attacker, helping a young society lady and needing to speak to the husband of a widower, Elinor has her hands full.

This story was filled with intrigue and suspense. The addition of new characters kept it interesting. Some crazy antics by ghosts and animals made for some funny highlights. This was another enjoyable story in this series.

Some of my go to tropes were in this which made it a cozy read. There was good romance notes as well as suspense. The friends groups were favorite. I look forward to seeing where the main umbrella plot goes even though criminal organizations are not my thing.

Delicious Death (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries #2)Delicious Death by Byrd Nash
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Having been introduced to the medium Elinor Chalamet in the previous book in this series, I was looking forward to this second instalment and was not disappointed. Yet again I was transported back in time and immersed in another of Elinor’s mysteries, which kept me hooked. I felt like I was alongside Elinor as her holiday in Vouvant is ruined by a poisoner targeting a royal guest, leading to Elinor investigating. When an attempt on the kings life implicates Elinor’s favourite chef, she is keen to solve the case and prove him innocent. However, before she can return to the fun of the Winter Revels, she also saves a young society lady, and solves the problem of a widower who grieves too much, alongside using her skills, honed at the Morpheus Society, to help the police, whilst still hunting her father’s killer. Elinor is also annoyed by her love interest, the duke as he thinks he can solve the case of the poisoner before she can. This is an enjoyable and entertaining novella in this gaslamp fantasy, ghost mystery series, and I love that it has a strong female character in Elinor. She’s a likeable and relatable young women and her slow burn romance with the duke, offers an intriguing aside to her case solving. I look forward to book three, and continuing Elinor’s adventures.

Suspenseful thriller w/ a side of romance. This is a kind of book you will not put down till it’s over. A town being infiltrated by suicides but are they truly suicides? Detective nick has a hunch that there’s foul play involved. From that point it’s a roller coaster of novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat! What a great follow up to Book one this is. I thought the author did a great job of bringing us back into the life of this character and I found her just as interesting to read about this time. The book was quite fast paced but knew exactly How to hold my attention. Everything was well thought out and I really enjoyed watching the connection between Elinor and the Duke grow. As the second book in the series it gives my high expectations for what is still to come.

Married Blind (King of Screen Book 2) by Morgana Bevan – Review by Jenni Bishop

Married Blind: A Marriage of Convenience Hollywood Romance (Kings of Screen, 2)Married Blind: A Marriage of Convenience Hollywood Romance by Morgana Bevan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Married Blind is a forced proximity contemporary romance tale. It is the second book in the Kings of Screen series but can be read as a standalone. I encourage you to start with the first book even though each book is about different characters who are sexy, steamy and spicy and let’s not forget British movie stars.
I enjoyed the push pull and sassiness between these characters Finn and Abi. Their story is told in dual POV which gives them so much more depth and understanding of them as people. It is my preferred method of storytelling.
The story is done in a reality show setting where sometimes it was hard to remember what reality is and what is not. Where there is a marriage of convenience a reality-TV husband and wife. Should be easy right? Wrong!
This story is a light hearted romance tale that is a quick read. If you want to know what happens then you will have to grab a copy to find out for yourself.
I look forward to reading more in the series.

Byrd knows how to write good gaslamp ghostly fantasy tales. Delicious Death is the second book in this historical series Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries. They are fun and easy to read.
In this book Medium Elinor Chalamet finds herself trying to thwart an assassination. Murder, mystery and mayhem seem to find Madam Chalamet where ever she goes. There is no time off for this super sleuth even on holiday.
Unfortunately as always the Duke thinks he is suited to find the suspect and once again getting in her way making things harder than they need. Gotta love the Duke.
Now she must try to find the real suspect before murder once again becomes a reality.

This book is the second in a series. I did not read the first book, and I was able to follow along just fine. There was some struggle to get everyone straight, but nothing I wouldn’t have expected. My favorite part of this book was that it was clean and didn’t have the F word on every page. That was incredibly refreshing especially paired with a great story! Tallie Brown is a strong female character with completely relatable doubts and issues. I enjoyed hearing her thoughts and reservations. This book is worth the time to read. I look forward to reading more from this author!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the follow up story to Secrets Never Die. I definately recommend reading that book first as this book picks up straight from where that one ends.
This story is such a gripping rollercoaster of a read full of even more secrets and lies than the first book. The author does an amazing job with this story making it a gripping read right from the beginning.

Tallie is back and struggling to come to terms with everything that has happened to her. Not only is she dealing with the grief of losing her mother (or so she thought) she also has to deal with the lies and deception that surrounded her life and took her away from her real family. When Tallie’s real father goes missing she is asked to use the skills she learnt to help find him.

As the story progresses we learn more about Tallie’s past and her relationship with the woman she thought was her mother. Now Tallie is on her own and surrounded by people who she doesn’t know if she can trust or not and I have to admit my opinions on those people changed several times and I was in for a few surprises.

This is a great mystery Suspense story that will keep you hooked from the first page to the last. The twists and turns are so good you don’t see it coming until it happens which is an amazing thing in a book.

Definately read the first book and then prepare to have your mind blown when you dive into this one to continue Tallie’s story.

I dove head first into this book. I did not read the first, but you do not need to in order to read this book. However, I plan on going and reading the first as soon as I can get my hands on it because WOW! This book was intense to the very last page. The plot and characters suck you in immediately and I found it difficult to put down.

The romance between Tallie and Jackson is one that gives you hope along the way. It was also a very relatable relationship. If you enjoy a good suspense, mystery, and romance novel, then this one is for you. Whether you pick up this one first or you pick up the first in the series, you need to get your hands on this novel.

Underboss’s Retaliation (Sicilian Gods Book 2) by Via Mari – Review by Maisie Dickinson

Underboss's Retaliation (Sicilian Gods Book 2)Underboss’s Retaliation by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Underboss’s Retaliation Arc is the second in Via Mari’s Sicilian Gods series. It follows straight on from Boss’s Vendetta, this time revolving around cousin Dominic – who would ‘do it all again, risk everything for the woman I barely know but whose heart and mind beats in time to my own’ – and the badass mafia princess from the rival crime family, Emelia. There is even a link to Mari’s Cruel Deception series, of which I have read Degrees of Innocence. I’ve read three of her books this year and I am becoming a huge fan. The romance, the passion, the danger, it all keeps you hooked. Every time I pick up one of her books, I cannot put it back down, and Underboss’s Retaliation Arc has proven this again. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.

The Hawke Family Complete CollectionThe Hawke Family Complete Collection by Gwyn McNamee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the complete collection of The Hawke Family and oh my god this is brilliant, to be able to have the whole series in one book is heaven.

With all six stories, Savage Collison, Tortured Sky, Stone Sober Building Storm, Tainted Saint and Steele Resolve in one book was great as you can read one after the other and be absorb within the words. Each book offers an insight into the family by following one of the family members with intrigue and twists and turners.

My favourite book out of all of them was Steele Resolve, a tale of forbidden love and unresolved issues within the family. Luca has come back after being away for a while but when he walks into a family meeting and sees the man, he has always loved can he reveal his secret and live a happy life. As the story unfolds you get to see the insight into both worlds these men revolve around.

I loved this series and enjoyed all the stories, with each character jumping out at you and the wonderful stories which involved you within the world of The Hawke family was brilliantly. So sad that it had to come to an end. Can’t wait to read more stories by this wonderful author soon.

Michelle is a travel blogger who writes from her heart. When she is approached by a beauty company based in Iceland to help promote their natural based beauty products to consumers, she decides to jump on the chance to return to the country that spoke to her soul years prior. Before she can get settled into her surroundings, fate seems to step in and make her life difficult by bringing in accidents and old nemeses, However, it also provides her with someone to help her. And that someone happens to be Royce. She kind of knows him through mutual friends but quickly discovers that she really wants to KNOW him and what makes him tick. Can she separate business from pleasure? Or will she be lost to his overwhelming Viking charisma?

Royce has seen Michelle and interacted with her on the peripheral for years. She is the best friend of his best friend’s sister. He’s always been intrigued by her, but their lives never seemed to line up to really get to know each other. The fates align when she takes a job in Iceland, his home country, and needs help on day one. As he spends more time with her, he finds that he is fascinated by her and wants to know her on every level. As someone who doesn’t believe in love, he finds himself questioning his own line of thinking. Can Michelle change his mind on love? When her livelihood and life are threatened, can he keep her safe and not get entangled?

The second book in this series was not a disappointment. Both Michelle and Royce have their own demons that they are fighting daily. When they open up to each other, they finally find healing. I enjoyed how they knew each other and when they looked back over their lives, there were instances that drew them together without them really knowing it or seeing it until they thought about it. If fates truly aligned, this is a perfect example of it.

The continuation of the overarching mystery gathers more depth and encompasses so much more than just the crime that the guys witnessed. It seems to be growing larger than just their city, too. It will be interesting to see where the author goes with it! Looking forward to the next book!

This book in the second in the series and I have to confess that I had not read the first book, although this can be read as a stand-alone book, I believe I was missing certain important information by not reading the first book, but this did not distract from the overall story.

I loved the character of Tallie, how broken she was but had it in her heart to try and help the thousands of missing people with her history and skills. I loved the twists in the story and the relationships between all the characters, the story was engaging and drawn me, I could not put it down.

I can’t wait to read the first book in this series and other books going forward.

This was a great book, and quick read. Once I got started, I didn’t want to stop reading it until I finished it.

In this non-traditional romance, the marriage comes before the love story. When Abi decides to sign up for a reality show in which she marries an unknown celebrity for the 3 months for a large pay off….money she intends to use to help her sister pay off medical debt…she never expects to find true love. For Finn, Abi’s married at first sight husband, the show offers an opportunity to rehab his reputation and try to save his career, after rumors cause him to be too much of a risk for studios. What neither Finn nor Abi expect is to find love and a real marriage.

Audri has known Remington for years. He is her brother’s best friend. So, he should be off limits… but she has harbored a HUGE crush on him for as long as she can remember. When he buys the company she is currently working for, could it be fate stepping in to push them together?

Remington has always been drawn to Audri from the moment he met her. However, he won’t cross the line to pursue anything because it goes against the bro code. But when her life is threatened and it seems like someone is gunning for her, he can’t help his overwhelming desire to protect what he considers his. Can he hold the line and just protect? Or will he lose his heart to someone who can help make him whole?

This is my first time reading this author and I genuinely enjoyed it! There’s an overarching mystery that is playing out over this series, a crime the 5 male friends witnessed in their teens. They think they can ignore it and it won’t bother them and theirs, but they are mistaken as it starts to pull in the loves of their lives. The set up for this mystery was done well, in my opinion. I liked how things are mentioned in passing and then become bigger later on in the book. There were some twists that I didn’t see coming and it kept me reading.

Looking forward to the rest of the books in this series!

I found this book so entertaining. Reality TV marriage. Three months for Finn and Abi may have felt like a lot but with the sass and their friends, this sure sounded like a made for tv drama fest. Finn screwed up big time and was told he had to do this. I loved him because he kept trying to weasel out and the producer called him on it. Abi was just trying to help her life and her sisters. Could they get through this fiasco? Would they end making this phony marriage work? This is a fun and humorous read. It’s got some serious moments, a dash of steam here and there and some characters that will embed themselves in your head. The story line is fantastic. A definite must read romance. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. This Is one crowd that you won’t be able to forget.

Oh, Elinor is at it again. Though this time, she is on vacation and enjoying the culinary treats, she somehow finds herself mixed in trouble again. I love this series because Elinor can take care of herself but the good Duc d’Archambeau is there to assist her. Elinor’s ghost talking skills are called into use when someone is attacked again. I loved the story in this book of the series. The writing flows so well. The characters are well=written and just fit into the story. Elinor is so strong that it’s great to watch a strong female protagonist in a story during a time period where that is not common. I also find that her relationship developing with Duc d’Archambeau is quite entertaining. This is a very good read and another wonderful book in The Ghost Talker Series. You should definitely get out there and read it.

Wow that is not at all what I was expecting but man what a ride. This author knocked it out of the park with this Contemporary Romance. It may be a short story but it’s packed with emotions, drama, heartbreak and so much more. I’ve become a fan of this author and her Paranormal stories and I love how her stories flow and always makes you feel as if you are right there with them. This is a story about Augustine and Dorian. These two meet because of an accident in which Dorian feels guilty that it happened. What they didn’t know was they would be torn apart and broken hearted. Three years later their wives introduce their husbands to one another but they already know each other. What does fate have in store for these two? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

Spinning tales of subtle magic with unexpected twists, she packages satisfying stories that reads like no others. Byrd writes the book you need, not the one you expected.

Described by one reviewer as a “literary glass of bourbon after a long day,” and another: “When I get a Byrd story, I know I’m in good hands.”

Whether it is a Doppelgänger who was once a medieval knight now working in college administration, or an updated Red Riding Hood escaping a post-WWI wolf pack, her characters all feel real.

That Celtic goddess at the pet store? She’s someone you know. A medieval queen fleeing an abusive marriage? You experience her pain and triumph.

With a B.A. in journalism, she worked as a newspaper reporter, covering news, schools, and lifestyle for both weeklies and dailies. She was the first journalist to serve as director of The Forest Heritage Center in Beavers Bend State Park, Oklahoma.

Her hobbies include reading, nature hikes, and traveling when she has the money. She seldom has the money. Married to a man who reads all her books but with two adult children who never read them. Byrd has cats, which makes her a legit author.
