This is the 3rd book in A Blanche Murninghan Mystery series. I haven’t read the books previously and didn’t realise it was part of a series. The fact that this was book 3 didn’t stop my enjoyment as it is possible to read it as a standalone.
This was a interesting mystery story filled with adventure, danger,hidden secrets and also a journey of self discovery as our main character Blanche learns more about her father.

When Blanche is approached by a young woman to help find her mother in Vietnam she is happy to help. While she is there she is also hoping to find out the truth about what really happened to her father all those years ago. However things won’t be straight forward and as Blanche starts her search it becomes clear that there are some things people want to remind unknown.

This story was really well written and the authors attention to detail and historical events really brought this story to life for me. I can’t wait to go back and read about the other mysteries Blanche has solved in the first 2 books.

Sweet Dreams by Claire is the second instalment of Nanette Littlestone’s Capture the Light series, and it follows Claire and Finn. Claire is passionate about baking, she wants to open her own bakery and create things made of wildly different ingredients and flavours, but she’s currently working in her parents bakery which is limited to items she deems vanilla and simple. Finn is a sailor, he’s adventurous, never stays in one place or with one person for too long. They meet, and have a bigger impact on each other than either of them expected. Claire steps out of her comfort zone, and Finn sees what he wants for the first time. It’s a cute and inspiring small town romance. It’s hard to choose a favourite or least favourite character because everyone in the book has their flaws and perfections. Claire puts everyone else’s needs before her own, but she lets her insecurities get in the way of growing relationships. Finn is kind, courageous, adventurous, but can sometimes come across as selfish. I recommend this book because it’s a sweet story about two people who never really thought they’d find love, but they do. It’s also inspiring when it comes to Claire’s condition, her insecurities around it, and her overcoming her fears. ‘There’s a lemon tang of surprise and a spicy heat, mixed with a cinnamon wind and a salty breeze that says, “You’re here; I found you.”’

This was a great 5 star read. This author has quickly become a must read for me. I really enjoyed these characters and their story pulled me right in. I like dark mafia reads and this one did not disappoint. Jay works security for the mafia and when he meets Sasha things change for him. Sasha is a spitfire and knows how to handle herself. When she gets herself in trouble will Jay be able to keep her safe? What will happen if her secret comes out?
Then we get Matt and Marenah’s story. Matt is working undercover and when he meets Marenah who is Sasha’s twin sister things get interesting. Marenah also has some secrets of her own. Will they both get what they are looking for?
Overall I really enjoyed this book. The author does a great job with her writing on both stories. I look forward to reading more from her. 1-click and get started today.

Such a good duet! This author is always a good one and I enjoy their writing style and their ability to keep me entertained throughout the whole story!
The first book in the duet is centered around Damian and Bryanna. I likes both of them! Their story was fast paced with lots of action and suspense. It also has quite a bit of steamy romance!
The second story in the duet was centered around Dereck and Layla! I liked this one too but not as much as the first story. There was danger and lots of drama and the steamy scenes were strong in this one too.
I enjoyed both of these stories and I am looking forward to more by this author in the future!

This steamy mafia/protector duo is on fire. It starts with Sasha. She is a ballerina that has bad taste in men. Or rather, is searching for forever in men looking for right now. Through one of her Mr. Right Now’s, she gets on the radar of Jay, personal security guru. When things go south with one of Sasha’s stunts to get the attention of the former Mr. Right Now, Jay is right there caring for Sasha and laying claim to her.

As Jay grows closer to Sasha, Sasha is trying to run away and break free from all of her bad habits when it comes to men. Sasha has ties to the Chicago mafia and Russian Bratva that she is hiding from the world. These ties put her in danger and the need for Jay more than ever. Jay’s ties to the Italian mafia adds a layer of complexity. As Jay uses all the connections needs to to find out who is hunting Sasha and how to get it to stop, even if that means stopping it himself.

When Sasha runs away one last time, Jay comes face to face with Sasha’s twin sister who is now dating his best friend and business partner. It is a strange realization for both Jay and his bestie, Matt. Matt realizes that the same problems that Sasha is facing also haunt his girlfriend. There is more than family relations that is haunting Marenah, Sasha’s twin. Matt just has to figure out what it is.

The second story focuses on Marenah and Matt. The level of difficulty for this couple multiplies 10x by throwing in Marenah’s secret. Marenah is trying to find out the people responsible for an international human trafficking ring and stop the next ‘shipment’ from leaving Chicago. Marenah believes that someone within her organization is helping the traffickers.

Marenah knows that she can’t tell Matt who she actually works for because once she does, she knows they can’t be together. Matt’s ties to criminal families won’t have him dating a cop. When Marenah lets Matt in a little, he helps her stop the traffickers but her family connections cause additional complications.

Woooha. Nonstop action and steam, twists and a few turns, new players and old alliances. Wow. From start to finish, there is so much going on. I enjoyed that even the books have overlapping scenes, they are told from different perspectives and you get a different view, more information. I can’t wait to see where things lead.

Kingston Winter is pretty ruthless, or as the title suggests savage. He kidnaps our female lead, Ava Blue because her brother owes him over 2 million dollars. Never mind that she doesn’t speak with her brother. Kingston uses her as a pawn to get her brother to pay him back, but would he really allow another man to take what he feels is his? He is fairly possessive of Ava, but he has followed through on other threats so it’s hard to say that he wouldn’t do such a thing. Avas has stayed strong and fought back every step of the way. While her feelings also become evident, will she run for freedom at the first chance or stay with the man she is coming to love? This was a great book that I couldn’t put down. I enjoyed the characters very much. I can’t wait to get down time so I can start book 2.

Song of Earth and Claws by Lena Abram is a high-fantasy adventure with Fae, complex world-building, drama, danger, agendas, family dynamics, challenges, and more.
This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Abram, so I really didn’t know what to expect from one of her books- but as fantasy is one of my absolute favourite genres, and the blurb sounded quite promising, I one-clicked myself a copy and dove right in.
I have to be honest here, there is a LOT of information and details in this story, and the start proved to be quite slow and somewhat confusing. The story jumps right into aspects of the ‘Game’, but nothing (about the Game) is really explained enough to know how it works and what’s going on… I felt like I was starting a book in the ‘middle’ and was missing a lot of details. The flow was also slow and a bit choppy, which added another challenge to my reading experience. These issues did improve as the story unfolded, but I still struggled to stay in the ‘groove’ or invest in the character/s and the story. There were quite a few frustrating moments for me and quite a few characters that I detested or wanted to kick/shake.
The underlying story had so much more potential, which for me, it just didn’t quite reach. I have been on a bit of a dark fantasy binge lately, along with some gritty thrillers thrown into the mix- so I’m really not sure if that has coloured my opinion of this book, or not. Taking that into account, I have decided to revisit it again in a few weeks to see if I still feel the same way about it- or if my opinion will change. So, stay tuned.
But don’t let my opinion put you off reading this book, because looking at other reviews, I seem to be the only one with any issues. So, if this book interests you at all, I suggest you grab a copy and decide for yourself.

A King So Savage (The Savage Duet Book 1)

I’m sitting here trying to come up with something more than WOW! This is a dark cliffhanging romance that may not be for everyone. I enjoy reading them from time to time depending on what I have been reading, always nice to change it up and this is definitely very different than the last several books I have read.

Ava and Kingston are definitely not your common characters. Ava is light where Kingston is dark. I liked Ava immediately with the fight she had in her, Kingston is a different story but there is obviously more to him than we know at this point and maybe more than he knows about himself.

Thankfully I don’t have to wait too long to read the next book, patience isn’t something I have when I’m this invested. Looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.

WOW! I absolutely adored every single page of this marvelous dark romance! I had only read one book by this author before, but it had blown me away so much that I clearly remember their name when this one popped up. There was zero hesitation in giving this book a chance. There is so much drama, suspense, angst and all the steamy scenes throughout and I may have yelled at Kingston a time or two. Reading about him and Ava had me feeling every emotion under the sun. I also like that the author included a playlist which always intrigues me. There are twists and turns that I didn’t see coming but I won’t give anything away! I cannot wait to pick up the second book, but while we’re waiting for it, I highly recommend getting lost in this one!

This book blew me away! I have read books by this author before, but none quite like this one. I liked that it is a little bit longer than my regular go-to books, but it is actually a combination of two books: Wayward and Undercover. When I say I couldn’t put this down, I mean literally. I skipped a meal and kept right on going because I was too invested in what was going on and what would happen. We read about Jay and Sasha in the first story and then Matt and Marenah in the second. Both are quite suspenseful, full of action and steam! I can’t wait to see what this author has in store for us with the next book. Pick this one up now so you can be caught up in time!

A King So Savage (The Savage Duet) by April Moran – Review by Jessica Stone

This book was terrific, I loved every single moment of it to be honest. If you looking for a spicy, reluctant, forced proximity, touch her and die, contemporary dark twisted romance, this is the book for you. I honestly didn’t know what I was getting myself into, but it defiantly gave some Den of Vipers/Haunting Adeline vibes with the main characters King’s obsession with his captive Ava. This story was masterfully done, the relationships between characters were steamy, an antsy, dark and dangerous, it really just checked all the boxes for me. King being this kind of morally gray character and Ava being portrayed as this naive girl, who should known better but somehow doesn’t and coming to terms with who she really is as she grows throughout this book under Kings dare I say tutelage was enjoyable to read.

The premise of this story is basically Ava is kidnapped by King to pay off her brothers debt to him. They know each other from the past, he’s always been attracted to her but never acted on that attraction, until now.
I will say this isn’t for the faint of heart and by that I mean make sure to check out the trigger warning provided by the author but don’t let them dissuade you from reading this book. If you do, you are definitely missing out.

I don’t know much about this author, but this book was very well written in my opinion, it flowed cohesively, the plot and story were there and the “romance” was just right. I’m absolutely interested in reading more from this author if this is what her writing is like. Once I picked this booked up it was a struggle to put it down and do other things with my day, I devoured this book.

Maddie is a young actress who is contemplating life as she knows it now and how long she can continue on her path. As with the other books in this series, the author does a beautiful job of character and world building. The Olympic peninsula and the O’Connell family and friends make these book not only fun to read but suck you into the story so you will want to read all 3 books in a day if you could.

The story of Liam and Teresa finding their way to each other through some ups and downs. The story continues from the first book in the series “The Silent Woodsman” however, this book can be read as a stand alone. I actually read the books in the wrong order and had no issues following all the characters. The author does a beautiful job of world and character building. The story takes a bit of time to read but it’s full of family moments and moments when characters step up and out of their comfort zones. I really enjoyed reading the book.

This is the first book I have read by this author. She writes so beautifully that I can imagine being in the beauty of Washington State and the Olympic Peninsula. I really enjoyed the fact that the author wrote this book taking place in a earlier era where no one has a cell phone.
In the first book of this series, Ali Ryan is attempting to connect with her twin brother Liam who has been in an accident. She travels into the woods to find a way to “hear” her brother who she knows is alive after the tragedy even though they are on opposite sides of the world. Instead she meets a man resting in a cabin who can’t use his voice. How will this man chance meeting change their lives?

Song of Earth and Claws is Lena Abrams new romantasy world book. This is a good start to this series.
This high fantasy tale is set in a world where magic is the norm and the worldbuilding is done well. The story is well-written and easily imagined.
Lena certainly puts the characters through their paces in this magical journey. It kind of reminds me of a cross between Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games and GOT all rolled into one. There are strong heroines that are interesting and intriguing characters.
With Games a foot it’s do or die time, but does Lannahi have what it takes to win or will all be lost with her. Rules, what rules? Has she taken on more than she can handle? To find out you will need to read this little gem.
The stakes are high in this magical world where enemies have their own agendas, power, and greed. A world with elemental magic, magical creatures, wolves, Fae, games, slavery, along with lies, secrets, deceit, danger, death, hopes, dreams and more. Loyalties will be tested. Trust needs to be gained and want is a powerful motivator.
I enjoyed the story and look forward to the next book and the story becoming more settled in terms of build-up and pacing.

Another wonderful book in this series and I love that it helps children to learn how to be respectful to dogs and helping to keep themselves safe as well. The story is well written and accompanied by beautiful illustrations. I read these books with my little boy who loves them for their rhyming content. I think that they are lovely engaging stories and the characters CJ and Lora and their lovely dogs Porter and Midge are really loveable. I really enjoy these stories and think they are a great addition to any child’s bookshelf!

It was an interesting read and the authors attention to detail was amazing. The characters in the story were intriguing and the storyline very unique. It certainly made me think about a few things! This is the first book that I have read by this author and although maybe not my complete cup of tea I would definitely like to read the next book.

What a story to finish my 2023 reads with. I loved this story from beginning to end. It was exciting, dark, dangerous and so much more. I have to say I LOVED Ava! She was so fun to read about. She was not going to lie down and take whatever King threw at her, she definitely had a backbone and stood up to him. King is one of those characters that you know you shouldn’t like but can’t really help it – he is dark and he is absolutely a villain – he is not a nice person but his protectiveness of Ava to some extent makes him a little bit likeable. The cliff-hanger at the end has me eagerly anticipating book 2!

Wow what can I say about this book. It had me gripped from the first page and didn’t let go. It is book 1 in The Savage Duet and I definately can’t wait to read the second part.
The is a very dark romance. The main male character Kingston is a very dark character. Some may even call him sadistic. When it comes to Ava he is very controlling and he wants her complete submission no matter what it takes to get it.
Ava is also a strong character. I love how feisty and determined she is to protect herself and defend herself however even all Ava’s strength and determination can’t stop her from falling for the one man she hates and dispises.

Ava and Kingston’s paths crossed years earlier when Ava was a young teenager. Ever since that day Kingston was wanted her but out of respect for her father he never made a move. Now with Ava’s brother owing him money he sees his opportunity to finally get the woman he wants whether she is willing or not.
It’s simple if Ava’s brother pays off the debt he will release Ava, if the debt isn’t paid then Kingston will sell her to the highest bidder. However as feelings start to grow Kingston realises that no one is ever going to have her but him.

However Ava isn’t as willing to go along with this plan. When she is kidnapped she tries everything in her power to escape and she proves herself to be defiant to every things Kingston tells her to do. However it’s not long before she can no long deny how her body reacts to him and as much as her head is telling her to fight against it and him, her body is rebelling at every turn.

This is a dark steamy romance with some topics some people may not enjoy reading. There is the captive/abductor story as well as violence that some readers may feel triggered by.
Overall for me I loved it. The whole cat and mouse feeling to it and how they both tested each other is really what captivated me in the story. I can’t wait for the next one

Lannahi turned out to be a strong character that many underestimated. This story at times felt like a milder version of Game of Thrones (cleaner). Who could she trust? I felt her siblings were lying and manipulative jerks. The one she thought she loved turned out to be be a putz. Duals weren’t good but she had to do it to survive. An action filled story with drama, a little romance, and fantasy that made for a really exciting book that I couldn’t put down. The characters were well developed. You could feel from their descriptions what kind of person they were. This is a cool book and well worth the read.

An enjoyable and engaging historical cozy mystery which kept me hooked throughout. Amateur sleuth Blanche “Bang” Murninghan is fishing whilst on Santa Maria Island when a woman asks for her help. Jean McMahon wants Blanche’s help in finding her mother but to do this she would have to go to Vietnam. Her own father was killed in Vietnam during the war, and she has always wanted to know the truth surrounding his death and so decides to go. Having landed in Saigon and met ex-pat “Stick” Dahlkamp they cross the rice paddies, and venture into the jungle towns where Stick has friends who can help with the search. However, Blanche starts to have doubts about how helpful, or not, he’s being. Having traced Jean’s mothers’ steps around South Vietnam they learn that she met with an infantry scout, Hank McMahon who was with the old Americal division. Blanche is as stubborn and as determined as usual and wont rest until they find Jean’s mother, and then follow her father’s trail and discover what really happened to him after the war. The descriptive narrative brought the setting vividly to life, especially the Vietnam landscape, which made me feel immersed in the story. The author is obviously knowledgeable about the Vietnam war. The storyline kept me guessing and I loved Blanche as she’s so likeable, and I enjoyed meeting the numerous shady characters her and Jean encountered on their travels.

This was an original sci-fi, fantasy novel with an intriguing storyline and multiple fascinating characters. The story has an overall message about the environment and how our actions in the present have affected the world in the future, which is the setting of this story. Environmental attorney Maddison Bear’s Heart is chosen by those who speak to the earth and know her as Gaia, a sentient being. The Hopi people have always known the world would end and that earth would be reborn into the fifth world, and they want Maddison to lead them through the coming of this new world. When a young girl tells her that Gaia’s sister, Adelphi, a new planet will welcome them if they travel to her, the corporate military provide a ship straight away. They are glad to be leaving the ‘eco nuts’, who are always trying to protect the planet, behind. However, Colonel Miller is looking for a more permanent end to these protesters and so sabotages the ship and hunts down those who stayed. Many of those who stayed are women powered by the force of hope, but how many, if any will survive. The author did a wonderful job of bringing the setting vividly to life through the descriptive narrative, which made me feel immersed in the story. I found some of the characters a little difficult to connect with and as the story was told through multiple POV’s, I did get a bit confused early on. However, over all I found this to be an engaging read and I would happily read the next book in the series.

Although it took a bit to get into, once I got into it. I could not put it down. I devoured the last 50% + in a night / morning. I cannot wait to read the second part. Watching Ava change and her character development was amazing!! My heart broke for her a few times but it did for Kingston also. They honestly are perfect for one and other in a very complex way. The book is dark and definitely intended for mature adults. Enemies to lovers! Which can be very triggering. April’s writing style is unique but it was great. Bring on #2!
