This was the first book I had picked up by this author, but the cover looked intriguing, so I picked it up. You can’t go wrong with a book on kindness, but this one exceeded my expectations! I truly loved that these kids were a bit older than most of the books that focus on being kind. It can feel like once you’re older, it’s not as cool to be kind which is far from the case. I also enjoy that another lesson hidden inside is that you get better at what you put your energy into. The flow of this story was incredible and kept the attention of both my 8-year-old and 12-year-old. It also sparked some great conversations in our home that I really appreciate. This would make a marvelous addition to your home, a school library, or even a daycare! I can’t wait to pick up other books by this author.

I enjoyed this story from this author, whom I never read before. The story was beautiful and meaningful. I read this with my grands that just welcomed a little brother so, they felt like the story was written just for them. I feel this story will help them be better siblings. The illustrations were beautiful. Will be recommending this author and specifically this book to others with kids.

From the outset, the storyline draws readers in with its playful tone and relatable characters. Max, Michael, and Martin embark on a journey that illustrates how acts of kindness—whether it’s helping out at home or making new friends—can transform their world and the world of those around them. Perry’s uncomplicated prose makes it easy for young readers to grasp the concept of kindness, while the playful adventures of the characters offer moments of excitement and laughter that keep them engaged.

The illustrations complement Perry’s narrative beautifully, adding an extra layer of engagement for young readers. Colorful and inviting artwork is crucial in children’s literature, and it would be expected that the visuals aid in translating the warmth and playful spirit of the story.

Martin, Max and Michael have a school assignment to write about what they are good at. While talking about things they do that make them cool, they help people along the way. The kids realize that being kind is cool and enjoyable too!

This was a cute and quick read. Kids can learn that being kind can make everyone happy, including yourself! The pages were bright and vivid drawing attention and keeping it. At the very end of the book, there are a couple of cute games making it even more fun!

Seeing the bond between siblings while solving mysteries makes a wonderful story. It is great for young readers to read about. Family enjoyed this book for bedtime story time. Cannot wait to see what mystery the crew gets to solve next!

This book is a great addition to the Detective Dylan series and I think has to be our favourite one so far. Dylan is a great character to read about and, as a family, we always seem to become so invested in his adventures. For me, what made me really connect with this book was how engaged my son was. He thought the whole thing was so entertaining and has insisted on reading this book multiple times already.
This series was our first introduction to this author but she is slowly working her way into being one we have to read more about. This book was a pleasure to read and we are already looking forward to more fun adventures to come.

This title says it all! It indeed IS Cool to be kind.

I read this book to my 3, 6 & 8 year olds and it held their attention. My 8 & 6 year olds loved the illustrations and the story. We continued our discussion after reading the book about other ways we could be kind in our neighborhood. A great feel good book for kids.

This was a quick easy read that shows not only big dreams and ways that you can be kind but small ways every day to be kind. From helping to carry groceries to showing someone how to tie their shoes to just being nice to someone when others aren’t. Kindness is free and deserved by all. Bright colorful illustrations help grab your attention in this inspirational read on daily ways to be kind, and beyond.

I read this book with my two sons – D (age 6) and S (age 3). This book talks about the joys and fun of having a little brother.

D (age 6) – ”My little brother annoys me sometimes, but I do love him a lot like the brother in this book.”
S (age 3) – “I love my big brudder!”

All of the books by this author include foster children and the things they can achieve if only given a chance. In Cam Creates a Hero he sees that not everyone is as fortunate as he is in finding his family, even going so far as to have been abused by their family. Cam wants to come up with a hero that can help anyone in need. After staying up all night Cam is disappointed in his and his siblings attempt to do this, so back to the drawing board he goes, and his perseverance pays off. It’s such a cute and inspiring story that will remind kids that compassion, courage, and perseverance really makes a difference. Having a hero will really help children navigate through the rough patches in their lives. The illustrations were well done and depicted the scenes beautifully. I appreciated the thought put into this book and the lessons it will teach.

I liked how the story flowed smoothly, rhymed, and how it brought up things for my kids to question, research, and test. This author writes books that myself and my family enjoy reading and Down by the River was no exception.

This is a cute children’s book. I’d say geared towards 6-8 year olds. It’s a fun and easy read any little will enjoy. It’s beautifully illustrated and written with great imagination. It actually reminds me of what would go through my head as a child when my mom said don’t eat watermelon seeds. Looking forward to more stories from this author.

In this cute book, we meet Cam and his foster siblings. Cam is upset by a newscast about a little girl getting hurt. So he draws a hero bot to protect others. Such a great story showing determination and courage to make a difference for others. Quick read for little ones. Exceptional illustrations. Overall a great book.

This is a sweet, easy-to-read children’s story. The author covers a number of fun and sweet things an older brother can do for and with a little brother. This would be a great story for a parent preparing a child for a new little sibling coming along. The illustrations were cute and matched up well with the story. It encourages kind and playful interactions between siblings and is just beautiful, light-hearted, and colorful book!

I enjoy this series of children’s books. The stories center on a little boy named Dylan who enjoys playing detective along with his sister and his dog. What a perfectly adorable story! When you are planning to bring home a new baby, it can cause a big shake up at home and leave lots to work through with bigger siblings. This sweet book broaches the subject of a big brother welcoming his baby brother home and all of the wonderful ways he can help him learn and grow. We all want our kids to be best friends and this sweet read helps us broach the subject of all the ways they can be as they grow together.

This is a really cute kids book about becoming a big brother. I really enjoyed the focus on all of the positives of becoming an older sibling while sneaking in some fun “naughty” bits (like not eating your peas). The illustrations are nice and bright and they follow the story line well. This is the story of an older brother/younger brother combination so I feel that it is limited to that specific audience. Overall, I really liked the vibe of the story and the message.

First book I have read by this author, and I LOVED it. The illustrations were nostalgic of Chalk Zone vibes and the fun easy to read rhymes gave a fun twist of what could happen if you ate glue. As a boy mom I may have laughed a little hard on some of the pages like the glue riding the fart cloud but highly recommend this book for a creative what if on eating just a drop of glue.

Beautiful message in this one. While I found a few of the pages confusing on the order to read the talk bubbles the story was amazing. Dagmara Sitek shows an easy to understand for young readers what empathy is. How your imagination is only the first step in the creation of amazing things. Cam and his siblings might not be engineers, but his imagination and creativity created a hero that all of them could believe in and helped so many that needed to believe in good.

Another Detective Dylan story! My 7 year old son and I have read a few of these in the series. We always find them to be fun and entertaining.
This one deals with Dylan going to camp with his sister. He is pretty bummed at first, especially when it rains the first few days. Then, things start to look up when it’s time for camp games! But, the trophy goes missing! The camp owner says no games until the trophy is returned. Looks like a mystery perfect for Dylan! He ends up being joined by his sister, his dog, and a couple others on the hunt for the suspect. The list ends up getting bigger and bigger before they track down the culprit. Read to find out who stole it, and more importantly, why!

This was a super good book portraying the love for siblings. I would love to read this book to my 4 year old! I think he would really enjoy this book as much as me! I can’t wait to read more from this author! I really enjoyed reading how siblings have great relationships starting as kids!

Luca Magoo, Don’t Eat the Glue had me laughing out loud! It is a silly and fun rhyming children’s book. Luca is excited for art class and is curious about how glue would taste. His teacher yells at him to NOT eat it!! Is startles him and gets his imagination running wild. He imagines all the things that might happen if he ate glue. I like how there are key words that are written in different fonts. It made things more fun. The rhyming was mostly good- forced in some places but it flowed well. I highly recommend this book as a fun and silly story to get the giggles out.

This book is lighthearted and has nothing scary in it but the mystery will engage kids to use their brains to help solve the mystery. This is the third book in this series and includes pictures along with the chapters. Great read for beginning chapter book readers.

The bright and colourful illustrations by Imani Maco helps to bring the story to life. Not only does it help children, but it will also give parents ideas on helping a child with the arrival of a new baby into the home.
This cute tale is full of sweetness and would be a great book for your home or as a gift.
