And here I thought I’d never hear the inner thoughts of Ian Troy again! This Novella was a perfect addition to the series… there is enough detail where it could stand alone without the series but I do feel I had a better understanding of the characters having read the other books. Peace has been achieved. Ian and his magic are no longer needed….or is it? Ian and Jarryd head to the wandering isles thinking they’d be deserted but come to find that is definitely not the case and what they will have to endure is so much more than they knew. Another well crafted tale by this author who continues to impress.

This is a great continuation of the first book. The main characters go on an adventure to rescue their parents. The characters are well written and you can feel all of the emotions they are experiencing. There are magical things happening and each character has a pert to play in this adventure. The story is well written and I enjoyed learning more about each of the characters.

An action packed from the start, new to me series. Also, the author is new to me too. This series is a young adult fantasy with some time travels included. The author did a wonderful job with world building and the characters are good too. There is a lot happening within the book so anyone reading would have to pay close attention – especially as you learn about what Ruarnon is going through as they grow into their new position as heir after their parents are attacked. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and soon after decided to read the 2nd book in the series.

This is the first book in the Abredea series and what a great start it is. This is a dystopian story about the world turn apart by a plague to be pieced back together by the Grey Stars and their corrupt Caste system.This book will take you on an adventure full of twists and turns. It was an interesting read and the author does an amazing job of allowing the reader complete access to the people in the stories. From the people in high places and government( causing corruption) to the people places in the lower caste systems. This story is written on different timelines 1 in the past and 2 in the present. At first this I found this a bit hard to follow but the more I read and learnt the characters and their place in the system the easier it became and the more excited I was to learn where the past and present join.
This full of emotions, from the lies and corruption, to the lower classes struggling to build themselves up and living life as a constant battle. I really felt sorry for Juliana. Her parents were Blue Star( quite high ranking) but when she goes for her Coding they tell her she is a White Star( a lowest class) so not only does she have to go through the shock and upset of this change of life, she also needs to find the strength and learn to live in a completely different way than the way she was raised. When reading this story you can feel her confusion, pain, but also strength and determination as she struggles through.
Overall this was a great read, with lies unravelling, past meeting the present and people not entirely happy with the Caste system planning a revolt there is something for everyone. The author does an amazing job with these characters that you can’t help but be invested in their lives and their battles. I can’t wait to see how this series continues.

Eleanor Dixon continues Tally’s adventures in Japan for book 3. I thought this one was more scary and tense than the first two, especially if you have younger kids. I thought the cultural references and traditions were very well laid out in this book, even though I am adult, I learned some Japanese vocabulary as well as history of taiko drumming.
I thought the best characterizations is when Jophiel takes a break from Tally (I won’t tell you why!) and the pain/angst Tally goes through not having her new friend literally by her side. As with the first two books, I enjoyed how the story of the spirit/being at the beginning of the chapter interweaves with what is happening with Tally and her friends in modern day times.

I liked this better than the trilogy- thought the plot, writing and sequence of events was more succinct and less wordy and drawn out. I appreciated how the story picks up right after Magic-Borne, and throughout this novella, we learn more about Ian and Jarryd’s previous experiences as well as their down-again and up-again friendship.
My favorite part of the book was how the main character of the book doesn’t even exist, being spirits/faes/undetermined entities that inhabit the islands Jarryd and Ian have sailed to. Haven’t read a book before that a non-entity drives the plot along as well as C.L. Schneider does in this book. Overall, I enjoyed this book and makes you think- would you want all your fears taken away?

The Wandering Isles is a novella that is book 1 of the Soulbound Journey series. It takes place after the Crown of Stones series. We are following Ian Troy as he sets sail for the Wandering Isles with his friend Jarryd Kane, believing them to be abandoned. As they get to the isles, they soon realize that there are other magical beings there and find themselves in a very unwanted position. This novella was a wonderful read. Going on more adventures with Ian Troy post-war was an immersive treat. Wonderful world-building, adventures, and character development are par for the course with this author. You feel like you are on this wondrous adventure with Ian and Jarryd. The writing takes you along with all the emotions that the characters experience. A great addition to the Crown of Stones saga.

I was interested to see that there was another book in this series following Ian and Jarryd. They were such interesting characters. The past comes back to haunt them and the action scenes were great. Since this was a novella, the story went by quickly but it didnt seemed rushed and i enjoy this author’s writing style. and I am looking forward to more by this author in the future!

This is the third book in the series. There is a blurb at the beginning for those of us that missed reading the first two books. It helped me understand Tally’s situation and helped me connect to her. However, I do feel I missed some context by not reading the books in order. I hope to remedy that soon. It’s easy to connect with Tally and the other children as they meet and get to know each other. The author did a great job with world building and making me feel like I’m experiencing the destinations Tally visits. Tally is traveling to Japan with her father, who is attending a conference. Tally meets new friends Yoshi and Miyu. Yoshi’s father works with Tally’s father. Tally is exploring Japan with her friends and Yoshi’s mother. I enjoyed reading this story about Tally and her special angel Jophiel! I’m definitely going to read the first two books! I would have loved reading a story like this back when I was middle school age.

This book is about a set of twins who begin to discover they have some special powers. When their powers are too much, they are sent away to a special school to help them learn to control them, (much like Harry Potter). Also like HP, they get into some trouble along the way. Jons rare gift leaves him as primary suspect for the theft of the Guardian of Whispers and he needs the help of his brother to clear his name. Good thing his brother can hear voices. This was a fun read and I really enjoyed it. It is well put together and the foundation is set for future books in the series. I am excited to see what comes next.

Bound by the Hinterlands by Bree M. Lewandowski is a wonderfully woven fantasy that had me invested right from the get-go. This isn’t the first book that I have read by Ms. Lewandowski, but it is probably my favourite (so far). Her books just seem to get better with each new release- and this book had all the ingredients I love to find in a captivating fantasy. From drama, family dynamics, mystery, danger, tension, suspense, action, adventure, agendas, plots, bonds, banter, duty + responsibility, an arranged marriage, forced proximity, emotion, romance, and finding love unexpectedly. I love Ms. Lewandowski’s vivid world-building, her attention to detail and wonderful descriptions really brought her world, and story, to life. From the clothing, to customs, and even the language and phrasing (which at first seemed a little formal and ‘old fashioned’, but actually helped build the atmosphere/feel of the story)- all the components blended together to make this quite an immersive read. After a lifetime of her father’s controlling, cold, and callous ways Cressida yearns to make her own way in life, and fate finally seems to be on her side. With her father’s failing health, his time is limited, and Cressida can finally see her ‘freedom’- it’s almost within her reach. But, even with death knocking on the door, her father still manages to put a rather large wrench in her plans by arranging (forcing) her marriage to Caravahl Alzeid, Baron of the Hinterlands. And so, her adventure begins. Add some darker tones, a little mysteriousness, sinister intent, drama, discovery, secrets, and danger- and the story takes an even more intriguing turn. Looking forward to seeing what Ms. Lewandowski has up her sleeve for us next. Happy Reading…

It’s a good book but it took me a bit to get into it. It was a little slow moving but the characters were easy to fall for. I enjoyed the story I just had to commit so it is definitely worth it to ride the whole way to the end!

Details. While this is not the first book, I have read by the talented C.L. Schneider, it is the first book about Ian Troy, and the world of A Crown of Stones that I have read. As the synopsis states this book can be either a continuation of the original series or an introduction. Being new to the series this book served as an amazing introduction to the characters of Ian Troy and Jarryd Kane. Ian Troy was once the Fated savior of the Rellan people during the endless wars with the Langorians. Given nearly infinite power fear led him to give it all away and take on the addiction to magic of his entire race, Shinree. Jarryd Kane is the person, friend, crewmate, that Ian takes with him when he leaves his homeland and all that it represents. Leaving Mirra’kelan was one of Ian’s hardest decisions to make, and to ask Jarryd to leave his son and loved ones behind to follow him. Saving the people, he was a reminder of a history everyone wanted to forget and a savior that was no longer needed. Setting out on the fabled journey of his Shinree ancestors, the first stop was The Wandering Isles, thinking they were abandoned. Finding them they find more than they ever anticipated, they are magical beings but not one that Ian can identify or recognize the magic of. Isuara, their leader and her male attendant Taalman tell them the only way they leave is with a trade. With no choice they are taken from their ship, their clothes changed and thrown into their worst fears. Ian quickly becomes aware but when one moment can’t be contradicted with facts, he is left doubting himself. Jarryd is thrown back in prison, told Ian is dead and no help will ever come. The first book I read by this amazing author was Necrosis, and like that book the level of details leave you sometimes squirming as the visual fills your mind. Her ability to give such a detailed, complete image in everything she describes is incredible. I anxiously await the next book in this series and am already planning to go back and read A Crown of Stones. This world is unlike any other I have ever read, and one little taste is not enough, I need more.

This is a novella that comes after The Crown of Stones series and covers more of the story of Ian and Jarryd. This can be read as a standalone but having the background of the series before it will help certain situations make more sense.
Fantasy lovers will love how this story evolves. There is a bit of mystery in this one too! Anytime Ian and Jarryd are together, adventure is sure to abound. When they come across an island full of mysterious beings, reality starts to blur and neither are sure of what’s really going on.
I do get a little confused as this writer tells the story one perspective at a time. I have a hard time keeping up with who’s telling which side of the story and I have never been a fan of skipping back and forth. This was a little more difficult of a read for me for that reason. However, it was still enjoyable overall.

Cressida’s father is not one for affection. In fact, he is downright abusive. As his health is failing, she begins to see a glimmer of freedom at the end of a very long and stressful tunnel that has been her life for twenty-five years. However, just as she thinks that she will be free of her life of burden, she has the rug pulled out from under her once again. She finds out that she has been betrothed to someone and it is not just anyone either, but the ruler of the neighboring county in the Hinterlands, Baron Caravahl Alzeid. The Hinterlands are known for their strange, creepy woods that surrounds the keep. Stories that are shared of it are ones that give children nightmares, and she is going to live there and help rule.
Once married and on their way, Cressida finds that while the rumors of the Hinterlands are partially true, she is pleasantly surprised to find the Baron is actually a man of honor who loves his county and people dearly. She discovers that she is happy to be his helpmate in preparing for unexpected guests and in all things to help with the county’s residents. As more background about the Hinterlands comes to light, there comes a point where a choice has to be made by the baron. Can he share all things that ruling the county comes with or will Cressida falter and flee in fear? Can they trust each other implicitly with each other’s hearts and break the curse of the land or will they be doomed in the demise of the land?
I enjoyed this read! It was quick and easy to get into and feel like a part of the story. There were sad parts of the story where I just wanted to give Cressida a great big hug and times where I wanted to cheer for her. She’s a spunky character that doesn’t let her upbringing dictate her future. She takes charge, as much as she can at times, and always works for the betterment of others. I feel like the author did a wonderful job of having them fall in love in the right time and not be over the top about it.

Bound by the Hinterlands is a beautifully written fantasy romance story that will have you intrigued from the first page. The storyline is captivating, and the scenes are vividly described which draws you into the story along with the characters. The characters are well written, and ones that you will either love or hate. Cressida is someone that you instantly feel a connection with and want to save from her father. Cressida’s father is someone that you instantly dislike because of the horrid way he treats his daughter.
The story centers around Cressida who has been forced into an arranged marriage by her abusive and controlling father. She is upset by this because all she has ever wanted is to be free from her father and venture out on her own. Cressida must travel to meet her new soon-to-husband, Baron Caravahl, who lives in the land of outcasts known as the Hinterlands. When she gets there, she is surprised to discover that not only is she attracted to Caravahl, but she likes her new home in the Hinterlands. The problem is that there seems to be danger lurking in the shadows and a sinister secret that has been kept hidden. Caravahl must risk losing everything to save Cressida from danger once secrets are revealed. Is Cressida worth the risk? Can the Hinterlands be saved?

This is one crazy mind bending story! I never knew what was up and what was down. Between the violence and the sacrificing adventures I was freaked out and ended up skipping pages. This is not my kind of read but I gave it a go as I loved her Dahlia Nite series. Since I have not read the Crown of Stones series this one was very all over the place and I am assuming rehashing things that happened in that collection of stories. Confusing to me but I did want to know about his drink so I kept going. I am not likely to read others in the series as I was unable to connect to the characters.i do like the cover though.

This author truly understands what it means to build a world you can get lost in, as well as characters you can fall in love with, or hate, if that’s what you’re into. The story is very well written. It flows wonderfully, You truly get pulled into this world and find yourself feeling a bit sad when it’s time to leave. If you’re looking for a fantasy book and MM/LGBTQ is okay for you, I absolutely recommend this book!

This was a fantastic book. It’s a paranormal romance which kind of isn’t the normal type of book I read. but this book really was impressive. The characters and settings were extremely well written that it makes you feel like you know the characters and seeing everything that everyone else is seeing. The story line or plot really flowed and draws you into the book that you honestly can not get enough of it. the way the story flows and unfolds really made it super easy to follow along and know what was going on and happening. The love between the two characters really grows on you and to each other. This was a really great read.

Wow! I feel like this book falls under the old adage “never judge a book by its cover”. This book blew me away, the story is so well written and just gut punched me. I am just devastated about Julia being married to Greg and all that she endures. I didn’t think there would be any way out for her until Samuel. Their journey, together with the rest of the group and Adam is rough, wondering if Julia will ever be able to tell Adam about her time married, or if her and Samuel have something between them.

Sleeping Love by Natalina Reis is a Sleeping Beauty retelling with a twist. This is an M/M Paranormal Romance with a Friends to Lovers Trope. Our main characters Yi and Ayo have a beautiful love story. The story is well written. The characters have so much depth. The pacing is perfect. There is even humor sprinkled throughout. Yi is the crown Prince and Ayo grows up along side him. As they grow Ayo develops feelings for Yi as well as powers. When the King finds out he Exiles Ayo under false pretenses. When the kingdom falls under a Sleeping Curse Ayo comes back to save his Prince. If you like Fantasy/Paranormal Romance then this one is for you! 4 stars, definitely recommend.

This was an enchanting story of a woman torn from her life to marry a stranger. Cressida and Caravahl’s story is one of discovery and danger. I loved the way this story unfolds. As the mystery of the land begins to unfold, so do the feelings they feel for each other. I was on the edge of my seat throughout this tale.

Fantasy romance This was an amazing adventure, with beautiful imagery and strong characterisation. The story has a good flow and quickly draws you in. Cressida and Caravahi’s romance is one for the ages. It starts out as a simmer and builds to a roar. Recommend.

This was a fun read! It is definitely reminds me of Harry Potter, one of my very favorite series. This book takes me back to being a teenager reading Harry Potter for the first time. If 35 year old me loved this, then I know 13 year old me would love this book! I cannot wait to read more in this series. A little fantasy and fun to keep things exciting!

Hope and Lies is the first book in the Abredea series by C.H. Lyn. This is the first book that I have read by this author, and after reading this I am so glad to have stumbled on her book because she brings something a little different to the table. This gave me some ‘Hunger Games’ vibes- but with its own unique ‘identity’ and feel. It is a dystopian fantasy with superb world building, a caste system, abilities, a post-apocalyptic setting, rebellion, a battle for equality and justice, secrets, revenge, agendas, action, adventure, drama, danger, self-discovery, family, friendship, politics, corruption, grief, loss, heartache, betrayal, emotion, and hope. The story is told from several points of view, which gave the story greater depth and interest for me- the pov’s give us a much broader perspective so we can fully appreciate what is going on. It’s a complex and multi-layered story that weaves multiple threads and timelines into one engrossing read. Looking forward to continuing this series, as well as exploring more of this talented authors work in the near future. Happy Reading…

This is the first book in this series, and let me tell you it was definitely and adventure worth taking with Tally and the hard Ian angel, Jopheil. The reader is introduced to Tally right after she lost her mom who she was really close to. Her father takes her on a trip to India where Tally makes new friends and faces more challenges. Jopheil is woven throughout the story in bits of the journey. This book was out of my normal zone of reading, but I loved it! It is nice to read a book about a different culture and learn a little more about other people in the process. This is a great book that can bring a strong connection for those who have lost loved ones and the struggles that you face.
