Hope

To him, I’m just an annoying voice in his head.

I never once asked for this ability.

I connect telepathically with people

who don’t realize they need my help.

Once done, I sever the connection.

This man though, he’s different.

Connecting with Russ is refreshing,

but I don’t know why after two months we can’t figure out the reason for the connection.

All I know is I’m getting way too attached.

But until the monster who used my abilities for his personal gain is found,

everyone I’ve ever cared about has to believe I’m no longer alive.

Russ

My mind has been invaded by a mysterious voice.

She can read my thoughts, and see the world through my eyes.

She’s frustrating and doesn’t hesitate to call me out on thoughts I would never share with anyone else.

She also saved me, more than once.

As we start to talk more and I discover she’s always on the run,

she says I’ll be the one to save her.

How can I save someone I’ve never met?

As a friendship develops and feelings grow,

I know that I’ll do whatever I can for her,

Especially when I learn the reason we were brought together.

No matter where she goes, USA Today Bestselling author Nikki Lynn Barrett hears voices in her head. Instead of calling her crazy and locking her up, her family realizes it’s just a product of being an author and allows her to write the stories so that the voices shut up.

But they don’t. And probably never will. There’s no need to lock her up, Nikki knows she’ll never escape the voices, not until each and every last story is written. And for every story she writes, about ten or more ideas pop up.

When she isn’t slaving away at her computer writing books that will probably make you cry and keep you in suspense, Nikki plots to take over the world one book at a time. What? It’s a sickness. One she can’t escape!

Books aren’t her only addiction, though. Nikki can be found making up parodies to drive her son crazy, and bantering back and forth with her husband, who somehow manages to steal her away from the fictional world she lives in all the time.

Nikki lives in Arizona with her husband and son, where she can be found using every creativity outlet she can find through music, photography, handcrafted things, and random interests that she may pick up from time to time.

Magic, Romance, and Shifters – OH MY!

This is a zany, wacky story about a guy named Lockwood King.

There’s magic.

There’s humor.

There’s chaos.

There’s meddling by outside forces (but it’s for their own good – really, it is).

There’s sort of fated mates (fate gets a little push – okay, a big shove, but everyone deserves an HEA, right)?

There’s a bit of cursing (the magic and the swearing kind).

There’s inconvenient tentacle wrestling. (Don’t ask me, I just write what the characters tell me to).

And speaking of tentacles, did I mention the cigar-smoking octopus named Clyde?

If you don’t like absurdly unbelievable tales and magical mishaps, this probably isn’t the book for you. You’ve been warned.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

To start out with this review, I must tell you this is a new author for me and I don’t normally read Historical anything. So this book sounded like a story I might like. I was wrong! I Loved it! Falcon and Penny are both fighting for what should be right. In a time where it is all wrong. 1864 a time when race held status. Only the whites were rich and owned slaves. But who can tell the heart what it wants. Falcon lost his wife and child many years ago. Feeling he would never open his heart again, that is until he saw Penny. Penny knew she would never be anything but a slave. Even though she was adopted by a white family, she was still a slave to their daughter. This author opened many hearts in this story. It was well studied and even better written. As soon as I opened this book I knew I was going nowhere until I read The End. The story is fast paced and never slowed. It kept my interest and I fell in love with the characters, well not so much with Rose. I recommend this story for all those with romance in their hearts.

This a quick and steamy romance read! Forbidden love between Leon (master) and Penny (his slave) during a time period where love between the owner and slave was forbidden let alone a interracial couple. Penny’s character development was fantastic, you get to see her grown into her own woman. Leon took some getting use to, but but the time his intentions were out there, you learn to love him. If you want a romance books with some spice and little bit of story, this is totally for you.

This was a book I couldn’t put down. The cover caught my attention but the premise was even more interesting. I was worried that I wouldn’t get immersed into the story but I was hooked right away.

This is a new author to me and I so enjoyed this story of Noah and Mary. Both Noah and Mary were brought together over chance taken, especially for Noah or he could lose the land that was promised by his father upon his passing. When Mary is approached by a proxy marriage, she takes the chance and ends up at Broken Arrow Ranch. My heart just truly ached for Mary, the way she grew up and the pain she endured living with her father. I am so happy she jumped at the chance and hope for a better life in this story. Will Mary and Noah find that there is love for each other at then end of their “contract”.

This book just makes you feel good at the possibility of love, hope and a chance for something better. I am looking forward to reading more in this series.

Celeste is set to inherit her family’s hotel, which she doesn’t want, in this dystopian story. There is danger ahead as she sets off to the city thinking she will find more. This is a well-written tale that makes you go hmm…her family has a genetic oddity in the DNA that can sense carbon footprints and the bad guy wants them dead. That makes for an exciting thrill. Celeste has a few adventures and meets some unique personalities along the way. They are well-developed and quirky. She’s a newer author to me and this is a prequel novella. I will be reading the next in the series. I love the concept. I enjoyed the book. If you enjoy YA books, dystopian books or just plain reading, give this a shot. It’s a quick read. I highly recommend it.

This was an exquisite book done when it came to the historical part of Geisha’s and Japan. What a fascinating look at that period of time and a peek inside the Geisha house. Aia had a hard life taking care of them being whipped for any of the girls misdeeds. When she was thrown into the life and caught Nen’s eye (the king’s bodyguard), that is when the fantastical adventure began. The story was good. I do wish it had been a tad longer. I enjoyed the romance, just wanted a tad more of the Celestial Court fantasy adventure. The characters were well built. It’s a book worth reading. I would recommend it.

The Mesmerist by Claire Luana – Review by Darla Yocom

The MesmeristThe Mesmerist by Claire Luana
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I believe I may have found my new favorite author!

This incredible tale surrounds the struggle experienced by a naive but brilliant young lady, Adrijana once she visits the Adrjssian court. Within the first few chapters, we soon learn that a killer is amongst them. Multiple characters exude confidence and charisma, but the question they must answer is, who is trustworthy?

I found this book to be incredibly well written and exceedingly easy to read. I loved how the author allowed the story to build while watching the young Adrijana attempt to deal with constant trials and conflicting emotions with a very sheltered upbringing. On top of this, we become enveloped in the construction of her new life as an inexperienced Mesmerist. The different factions are very mysterious after learning of a small portion of what makes them tick, so I look forward to reading more by the author if/when she creates more titles that will dive deeper into each, especially the unsympathetic Vruk clan.

The hunt for the genuine assassin proves to be quite complex. While Adrijana is learning as she goes, I think the lessons learned within this story will help build her character for more story lines in the future.

I have absolutely nothing to say that I disliked about this book, as I found it very entertaining and I embraced the plot immediately.

Overall, I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a story of a young, farm girl who goes to court. There she learns something special about herself, she is a Mesmer. She can read people’s emotions by seeing their oras. Soon after she arrives, the queen is murdered. As more people continue to die, Adrijana works with the other Mesmers to find the killer.
Opinion
This book is a must read for young adult fans. Not only is it a must read, it should be put at the top of your TBR pile. I was consumed by this story. Every twist and turn made me think about who was the guilty person. The clues are laid out so well that they are easy to overlook. This book was an absolute joy to read.

I love romance stories that involve the battle between good and evil, with some magic, danger, and suspense mixed in. This book did not disappoint in any of these areas! This was the first book I have read by this author, but it definitely won’t be my last. The characters were relatable despite it being a paranormal romance and the author’s way of describing the world they live in keeps the reader turning pages to see what happens. The chemistry between the main characters had me invested in the story and in their relationship. This is the first book in this series, and I am looking forward to reading the next one, as well as other books written by this author. I have to admit that the beautiful cover made me want to read this book. I am a huge fan of historical fiction, especially from this era. This story takes place in the 1800s and all of the elements that a reader could want are included: mystery, romance, politics, danger, societal drama, and historical background. This story caught my interest quickly and the writing was as beautiful as the cover. It was extremely hard to put down! I found myself connecting with the main character, Charmaine, and her struggle between what she wants and her responsibilities. Despite the story taking place in a very different world than the one I live in, I often feel this way as well. A good author makes the characters relatable, which causes the reader to become invested. This is the first book in this series and I look forward to reading the next one.

Let me tell you this was a new one for me. Completely out of my comfort zone but something about that synopsis and a few teasers drew me in to an author I am already familiar with. This was for starters an incredibly vivid read, and I could tell that this a passion of the authors and I can appreciate that. Now, I don’t know a thing about RPGs but I will say this has to be a fantastic one to base off of because it just jumps off your kindle. I did find myself struggling from time to time as a person who isn’t already familiar with this world and would maybe suggest some smoothing in the writing in future books to help that for others in my shoes. I enjoyed the entire team of characters and really want to come back for more adventures. This is definitely one to check out if you like military sci-fi loaded with action and adventure.

This story takes place in Collingsworth, South Carolina in 1864, a time in which slavery is legal and very much the norm. Rose’s family has owned Penny since Rose was a little girl. Rose and Penny even grew up together. Penny was never treated like a slave until the family is desperate for money, and Penny must be sold to settle the debt owed. She is bought by Leon Falcon who finds Penny irresistible. He is determined to show Penny love and one day even marry her. Their love for each other is sweet in the face of racism and hatred. However, be warned that this book was quite graphic in the sex scenes.

A Spider in the GardenA Spider in the Garden by Courtney Davis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading a paranormal story about a spidershifter. I was pleasantly blown away by the depth of the character who was so much more than my initial thought of “just a spidershifter”. I don’t hate spiders, but don’t have a specific love for them either. This novel gave me a different perspective and new appreciation. I hate reviews that give spoilers, so I won’t go into depth about certain elements. However, there are so many fully fleshed out characters in this. From Aranha to Jonah to Dag, even Lars. I’m deliberately giving zero context on these characters, so that you can go into them with your own thoughts. The story has multiple layers and is, thankfully, not a one note storyline. I love that the author switches between perspectives, it really adds to the “flawed narrator” aspect while giving you a true picture of the situation. You can see why one character would read a situation one way while another will see it completely differently. This is the first book from Courtney Davis that I’ve read, but it was engrossing enough that she has now been added to my (literal) list of authors that I hunt down every month to see if a new book has been released or announced for release. I really need A Spider in the Garden to be the first in a long running series. Basically, if you love paranormal stories like Anita Blake, Rachel Morgan, or Mercy Thompson, this will definitely be worth your time.

Dr. D is a pediatrician – and although the kids love him, so does everyone else. Emily knows of Dr. D and his reputation, but will she be able to have the will power to not get involved? This book caught me in it’s web and I couldn’t and didn’t want to break free until I finished it! I have never read a shifter book about spiders before and I am so glad I gave this one a chance! It was so good!! I said “one more chapter” until 1am and I was done. LOL! Aranha is the last of her kind. She’s a spider who is forever on the run from other super naturals who thought they killed out her kind long ago. She only preys on the worst people, so she can stay in the shadows and not draw attention to herself. Dag is a daywalker and one of the last ones left. His species is a dying bread as they have lost their only companions in the world with no other way to have children. Aranha walks into Dag’s bar and Aranha’s web spins out of control. She’s not sure she can trust him and he needs her help. Can a daywalker earn the trust of this scared spider and save a human from the vampires? They can’t believe that one another even exist, so working together might prove to hard. Aranha has only heard tales and doesn’t know what to expect from another species from The Garden of Eden. Dag sees a future for the first time in centuries, but will he scare her off before he can even explain? Boy oh boy, does this one just crawl up your spine. I for one would love to see this book turned into a movie! Hoping for more! I can see a great series with this one!!

The Worry KnotThe Worry Knot by Mary Evanson Bleckwehl
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

While this was a good effort by the author, there were many places where the timeline jumps forward without any real indication. You can go from a person’s room to a conversation with a friend in school without warning. As the mother of a teenaged Autistic person, though more high functioning than Carson, I found Carson to be relatable as well as someone I felt a need to protect as much as Rourke did. Rourke embodied many of the same worries and concerns I have found myself worrying over with my other children, one of whom is also Autistic and somewhere between my oldest and Carson. I always worry about their ability to make friends in social situations, rather or not they are being judged by those around them, and their ability to stay safe and to live on their own in the future. I feel that this author has a good amount of insight into the minds of teens and the family members that they may feel the need to worry over. I truly believe that with more experience and time, this author will come into her own and be amazing.

Seven Strengths: A Tale from Turaset (The Industrial Age) by P.L. Tavormina – Review by Bobbi Wagner

Seven Strengths: A Tale from TurasetSeven Strengths: A Tale from Turaset by P.L. Tavormina
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed this shorter story. This is a newer author for me which I enjoyed and look forward to seeing what is next for this author. I enjoyed being pulled into the story by the characters. Celeste is a great, strong, teenager who really just wanted some excitement in her life. What happens when she finds a small village and the townspeople are willing to show her more than she ever realized. When she realizes that she may be out of depth in this small village, what will she do? I enjoyed her character and what she brought to the story. I also enjoyed how connectable and supportive she was as well as the other characters. I enjoyed watching their growth throughout the story which added to the story. This is a well written story that was both entertaining and easy to read. It is a great pick up. I highly recommend this book.

This is an author that I have enjoyed from the first book I have picked up from her. This author’s writing style and attention to details make her books easy and entertaining to read. This book is no different. This is a historical shorter story that just packs a punch. The characters are connectable and truly bring the story to life. I enjoyed how they pulled me into the story and made the story realistic. This is a fast paced, hard to put down story that kept me turning pages to the end. This is a story about romance and fate. Aia is my favorite character. I enjoyed how strong and what she brought to the story. She made me feel for her in parts, for sure. The growth of her and also the other characters throughout the story is great. They added to the plot and its growth that kept it engaging. This is a great story that I really enjoyed from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book and this author.

This book was amazing, in every which way that it could be. I was amazed at the story concept, and how things went and developed, and how the characters faced the unthinkable through out the novel. It was well put together, and a easy read as well. I was very much content and interested as I read this book.

Loved the historical side of the story. Loved seeing the world through the eyes of a geisha. Its something hat makes you think, if that is how Aia saw the world, perhaps many who are a geisha see the world the same. I loved her outlook on life. Enjoyed her time and moments with Nen. He was defiantly more than he appeared at first glance I loved his deep underneath lining. The moments shared between these two really added to the story. Another factor I loved was the way the author was able to transport me to Japan, literally! I felt I was right there with all the fine details that they used. Beautiful and haunting is the best way to sum up my feelings. Wonderful read! Highly recommend!

Wondaful work of art story! The story mesmerized me through out my reading, and I could not step away even for a moment, as the constant desire of the book’s will power to see what would unfold next. Highly recommend reading this book if you have not yet, it is fo sure a must read! And the author as well!
