Hot mama!! Wowza! I don’t know what I expected when I opened this book. But whatever it was got blown out of the water. Simply put, this was fantastic! Sexy, suspenseful, just the right mix of all of the wonderful stuff I love to read. I lost myself in the pages and was at the end before I realized it. So thankful that this is a series – I cannot wait to get my hands on book 2!!!

An Improper Encounter (The Macalisters Book 3) by Erica Taylor – Review by Heather Lovelace

An Improper Encounter (The Macalisters, #3)An Improper Encounter by Erica Taylor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Erica Taylor does a masterful job continuing her regency series and staying true to the characters already introduced in the previous series’ books. The writing style is full of wit, flawed characters, playful banter, a feisty heroine, and headstrong leading man. Familh continues to play such a large part in both main characters’ storyline development. Like Austen, the characters are prideful and bound to duty. And like Austen, these characters step boldly off the page and into your heart. Loved this book and series. Hoping there are more to come!

The Light at DawnThe Light at Dawn by K.L. Montgomery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book should only be read with a box of tissues and bottle of wine at the ready. This beautiful, tragic, emotional rollercoaster was masterfully written. I felt like I was neck deep in the situations and plot. Montgomery does an absolutely masterful job navigating a societal hot topic and treating it respectfully no matter which side the reader might be on. The characters are relatable, flawed, messy, and complex. This book, hands down, is one that everyone should read. It is simply that good.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If Mika Jolie isn’t on your must read list, drop everything you are doing and add her. Now.

I feel like Jolie is one of my confidants and best friends and as I read her books I feel as though we are laughing and talking over a cup of coffee or glass of wine and she is sharing her latest work of awesome (because that is what it is).

Rules of Engagement continues her trend of establishing flawed, relatable, “want to hate them for their perfection and love them because they are flawed and stupid/blind to love like the rest of us” characters and provides another heart wrenching yet beautiful emotional rollercoaster that you will gladly ride to its final stop. I. Loved. This. Book.

Movie Star (21st Century Courtesan, #2)Movie Star by Pamela DuMond
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This series has taken me by surprise. From the synopsis pieces immediately resonated. But still I was unsure if I would connect to the story. My doubts were immediately erased as soon as I read the first page. Dumond has created a world in this series, and maintained in this second installment, whereby the reader immediately dives headfirst into the plot and connects unabashedly to our main character. Masterfully written, this book stands on its own well but is best appreciated to the full when read as part of the series and in series order. Dumond has a unique voice and writing style that is easily followed but not lacking in rich flavor. Wonderfully done. I cannot wait to immerse myself in these pages again.

The Perfect Duchess (The Macalisters, #2)The Perfect Duchess by Erica Taylor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Erica Taylor continues to captivate me with her regency novels. Although period pieces, the characters continue to be relatable and complex. We find ourselves provided with an opportunity to read more about two of the characters we met in book one. But with the way the story unfolds this book can easily stand on its own and the reader not be at a disadvantage if doing so. Taylor has a keen ear to the authenticity for this time period and lends itself toward an Austen-esque style. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait to continue my journey with the Macalisters.
