I’m a wine lover and enjoyed this novel about Portugal and wine making. Throw in some romance and it’s a great story. I’ve never been to Portugal, but this makes me want to travel there! The real history woven into the story helps bring it to life. The culture clash brought the enemies-to-lovers deeper into complex characters that you fall in love with. The next book will be a wonderful read!

16-year-old, Rhia Caddell, doesn’t know what’s worse—arranged marriages or high finance.

Now she’s stuck with both when her desperate father agrees to marry her to the oh-so-dainty Prince of Wales in an attempt at royal tax negotiations. As a farmer, Rhia prefers toiling in the earth over romance. Life in a fiefdom requires muscle, and what good is a man who can’t outlift her or bring a belligerent steer to the ground?

But now, the pressure has fallen onto her to whoo (or intimidate) her new, royal husband into erasing her village’s debt before the king’s final deadline comes due. Problem is, the prince has been given the same task—to sway his new wife, the mayor’s daughter, into forking over the gold and finally earning his father’s approval.

For Rhia, losing their new, delicate game would mean turning over the only life and home she’s ever known to the king. Winning, though, could mean giving up the fragile prince she’s tried so hard, and failed, not to love.

After She Became a Lady by Wareeze Woodson – Review By Michelle G

After She Became a LadyAfter She Became a Lady by Wareeze Woodson

A historical romance novel – not my normal genre; however I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is the first novel I have read by this author and I found the attention to detail and descriptive prose leant itself to the authenticity of the period.

Laurel is 17, I cannot imagine living in that era with a husband at war.

A good read. Definitely worth picking up.

First I’d like to say that I usually can’t get into historical books because of the old English, however, I really liked this book and there wasn’t a lot of verb-age that I didn’t understand. I really liked the storyline. If you are looking for a quick read this is not it. That being said I gave this book 4 stars because of the ending. I felt as though it could’ve used another chapter or 2 because I am left with questions that could have been answered rather easily and I’m sure I’m not the only one thinking it. I loved how the book switches perspective’s and the depth of each character. I will definitely be reading more historical romance novels from Wareeze.

Spellbound Seduction (The Brightley Sisters #2) by Halley Larkin

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Spellbound Seduction is the second book in The Brightley Sisters Series. I had a hard time putting it down. I really didn’t want it to end.

Bella is in love with Thomas, but then he disappears. Not being heard from again. She tries to move on, but it’s a little difficult. She then finds that he’s not really dead. The quote I chose for Bella is: “I should think you know all of my secrets by now. Didn’t you hear the two of us the other night when you and Mrs. Darlington suddenly decided you needed to visit the library? I assumed you were listening in.”

Thomas left to take care of his father. He left Bella behind for her safety. He lets her believe he’s dead in order for her to stay safe. Things turn bad when he’s blamed for his father’s crimes. The quote I chose for Thomas is: “He wants to take her lands before he has any legal claim to them.”

Highly recommended for Historical Romance lovers.

This is the second book in the Brightley Sisters series. I hadn’t read the first book going into this one, so I was a bit lost in the beginning, but the story picks up and I enjoyed it anyway. I might go back and read the first one, since I enjoyed the writing and I loved all the historical details. Plus it’s got intriguing turns that kept me going. I am definitely looking forward to Book 3!

I came into this series on Book 2 and was mildly concerned I should have started with the first book. But the problem was, once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. Thankfully, my concerns were moot because I was able to jump right into the Brightley sisters world!

Arabella, the loyal, responsible, and shy sister is steadfast in her resolve to aid her ailing father, looking after her younger sister, and doing her best to keep her family’s name and future in order. Despite being deceived by her former fiancé, thinking he was dead when in fact he was very much alive and hiding his own dark secrets, Bella finds the courage and strength to help him too. She is a damn saint at times! She is pulled into so many different directions you can’t help but feel sorry for her and yet envy her strength and tenacity at the same time. Thomas is still in love with Bella but continues to hide his secrets from her. Together they face two foes who threaten all they hold dear. Will Bella and Thomas save their families and save their love? Read this book to find out!

Now we move on to the second sister, Arabella, who becomes lady of the house after her older sister gets married and moves. She is still put on the task of finding someone for her youngest sister, but she won’t for herself. That is her belief since she is thought that her beloved was lost and gone to the world. Little did she know that was not true, till they meet again. So much happens in this book and is such a great read just like the first! 🙂

This was a really nice Historical Fiction Romance novel. Even though Charmaine has a tough time with her family right now, she has been working hard to keep them afloat. What that involves is putting on games for a ‘charity’. The games are done at a ball as well where she meets Kosta. There is love, family, drama, and scheming in this novel, but oh so good!

I typically do not read historical romance, but what a wonderful story of two opposites being pulled together. The characters and plot are well-developed. The author has created a Cinderella vibe, however, in this story, Charmain has a lot of responsibility being put on her to ensure her siblings are taken care of. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to those who love an unpredictable romance.

After the tragic loss of the man she loved, Arabella believes herself cursed. In the wake of her eldest sister’s marriage and the new season in which she must find a suitable match for her younger sister, the last thing this Brightly sister expected was the sudden appearance of her lost love. Alive and well, Thomas Beecham has been dealing with his own problems since he last saw Arabella Brightly. Though I’m not normally into historical romances, I did enjoy how well-written this book was and the well-developed characters within. You don’t have to read the first book to read this one, it’s easy to follow the story line and the content is sure to hold your attention.

I enjoyed reading this historical romance story. This is my first book by this author. I enjoyed her writing style as well as her attention to detail that gave her story a realistic feel. This is a well written story about Laurel and the life events she finds herself in, especially convincing her new husband of the danger he is in. I enjoyed her character and what she brought to the story. She is a strong character and connectable. The secondary characters are supportive and have great growth throughout. This is a story that I found to be fast paced and entertaining to read. A hard to put down story where the characters kept me coming back for more. I really enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it.

Historical Romance isn’t a genre I usually read but this was a good one. Bella lost the love of her life so she feels like she will be alone forever. Bella puts her time into making sure her younger sister’s first season is a good one. Bella’s lost love (Thomas)shows up one day, is it too much hope they can have a second chance? There are some secrets that may cause their second chance some trouble. This author did a wonderful job writing a lovely story that kept me turning the pages. This is a must read to find out more about Thomas and Bella, and some other great characters in this story.

I have come to love reading books from this era and was happy to find a new author to enjoy. This book was well-written and has a way of holding the reader’s attention. An easy read, wonderfully written and has mostly wonderful characters. Laurel is a young lady just coming into her womanhood when she fell in love with Viscount Laurenson. They are quick to marry due to her husband leaving for war in Spain leaving Laurel to deal with Robert’s twin sister Rhonda. Laurel is left at Landings, a brand new inexperienced bride, and at the mercy of Robert’s twin sister, Rhonda, a jealous, spoilt, spiteful woman. Rhonda has been in charge of the Laningham household for so long that it is hard for her to give up the reins to the household. When Laurel figures out that she is with child the jealousy becomes worse from Rhonda.
This love story with a twist of mystery is absolutely a must-read if you enjoy period time books. I can’t wait to dive into more books from this author.

While the romance of the story was great at the beginning, the problems with an in law definitely meant the honeymoon was over. Laurel was in love no doubt. Robert’s twin sister was making things hard. It seemed like a good portion of this book was really about the twin sister instead of the romance which made me lose interest to a degree. Overall, Laurel was a lovely person, and we are rooting for her throughout the story.
