A Gentleman’s Stipulation (The Scarlet Salon Book 4) by Jean Wilde was a really good read! This book is part of a series, but if there were any past events that contributed to the storyline I didn’t notice or couldn’t tell so I would say this book can be read as a stand-alone novel. I loved the storyline of this novel, and the characters and events that transpired. I was instantly taken with this novel, regardless of not reading the previous installments. My only complaint were character names. I wish there was more clarification on the characters or an index of some sort. I stayed lost with the names for half of the book. Other than that I really enjoyed reading this novel and can’t wait to read more.

Tiwatipara is a charioteer, working for the Hittite King Hatusshili, as his father and grandfather have done before him. He loves caring for the great horses who pull the chariots, as well as the chariots themselves. Tipa drives the chariot of the crown prince, the eldest son and probable heir of the King. And then a tragedy occurs: while racing, Tipa’s grandfather is severely injured and his father is killed in an accident while driving the king. When Tipa discovers that the chariot had been sabotaged, his life’s purpose becomes finding the saboteur and exacting revenge. This is the basic plot line for the rest of the book, but mostly, there is a lot of world-building and so many unusual names – of people, cities, and nations. If a reader pronounces words in their heads as they read, the reading will be slowed to a crawl by the difficulty of doing so w/ the unusual names. The intertwined relationships amongst the books characters are also difficult. That being said, the descriptions of charioteering, marching armies, and battles are pretty thrilling. Constant heartbreak for Tipa – and an unexpected, huge plot twist – keep one reading. The major flaw in the plot – besides the difficult names – is that the saboteur of the king’s chariot is so glaringly obvious as to remove most suspense from the novel. I read the Kindle version of the novel, in which the author’s notes, acknowledgements, and a glossary of names were at the end of the book. It would have been most helpful to have read them all first, as many of the people and conflicts delineated in the book are actually historical. This information elevated the number of stars that I will assign the book to 3.4 stars, rounding down to 3.

This is a story that surprised me more as the story rolled along. There is a reoccurring theme that I didn’t get at first. Once I hit the second half of the book it became obvious and I couldn’t have loved it more. The characters are intriguing and I grew to enjoy watching them blossom. I loved the sassiness of Jane and the dandiness of Alexander and how they blended and at time didn’t. It made for some very fun reading.

I enjoyed this Regency Romance. The characters were well written and the story keeps you hooked from the beginning as you want to see how things turn out.
Jane is just a plain girl who is heading into spinsterhood. With no suitor in sight at least not one she wants. Then she meets Alexander the Earl of Norwich.
Compared to Jane he is bold and confident and considered a dandy. What would a bold beautiful peacock like him see in a plan peahen like Jane.
When the pair are kidnapped by mistake they grow closer and their relationship develops. If they are freed will their romance survive or was Alexander just passing the time while they were stuck together?

This is not a time period I am familiar with but I found it entertaining and with some twists I did not expect. I appreciate the insinuations of violent acts or relations between people but without the details that I don’t want to read. The characters were easy to follow and their actions made sense. The political structure was somewhat familiar but not the same as we know in medieval times, for example, so it was a nice change. Some portions of the story I had figured out earlier on in reading, but there were a handful of twists thrown in that provided a pleasant surprise. I really enjoyed the focus on family and how things come full circle. Overall, a great read!

First and foremost, I want to say while this is the third book in this series, it totally works as a stand-alone in my opinion, but it will make you want to read the others if you haven’t already!!
With that in mind, this was my first Brashear novel, and I am genuinely so pleased to have found a new author to add to my “Must Read” list! I’d also never read a book set in Hawaii or the 1960’s and I wasn’t sure how I would like the combo, but Brashear is a gifted world builder, and her character development is second to none! I felt like I was walking the beach with Claudia at sunset with our platform shoes slung over our shoulders eating a shaved ice! Having never truly been to Hawaii, it was a wonderful escape into Brashear’s world, especially getting to meet the leading man!! Holy Smokes is he swoon-worthy!! Overall, the book was a true joy to read, and I did it all in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down. Flirty, nostalgic, romantic, and totally what true love is all about…well if you don’t count the angst and sorrow thrown in. But that’s what makes it real and relatable. My only hesitance in giving it the 5th star was the sporadic use of Hawaiian dialect. I’ve read books written in dialect before and find it helpful/enjoyable if used very sparingly. In Try Right I felt key phrases were overused and too many characters would speak traditional English and then randomly break into dialect, so it pulled me out of the conversation to figure out what they were saying or to remember “oh yeah, another reminder we are in Hawaii,” which I hadn’t forgotten. I understand this is a very personal reading preference and others may not even notice what I’m referring to. So, know I gladly and highly recommend this to lovers of love and true romantics. This is an exquisite piece of writing. The story grabs you from the opening line and takes you to another place in time. The author is on point with the world building and characterisation. The plot line had me turning the pages and I really enjoyed the mystery. Historical fiction is not a usual genre for me and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I really enjoyed N.L. Holmes’ writing style and I will be definitely checking out more of her work.

The Lightning Horse is a well-crafted book with interesting characters and a brisk plot. The personalities were layered and interesting, so much so that it was easy to get lost in this book and pretend I was with them. Tiwatipara is a great hero, with energy, loyalty and humour, but is also not presented as perfect either; his temper can get the better of him, and is prone to bouts of depression. As a whole, he’s very relatable and I was interested to see where this book would take him. There are lots of twists and turns in this plot, some I was able to guess at, and some that took me by surprise. The skillfulness of the writing kept me hooked, and I bet it will for you as well.

The Earl and the Peahen by Jean Wilde in title alone made me want to read it, especially knowing that it was about England Victorian society. I am always a sucker for romances set in that time period so I just knew that I would fly through this book. Tropes wise I do not know what exactly I would classify the relationship as because I do not think it counts as enemies to lovers so I guess it would be friends to lovers. It is definitely a very interesting adventure and not something I think I have seen before. This is why I love and hate romance novels because I want more of these characters, but I won’t except maybe in cameos in other books in the world. Obviously going into the book you know what is going to happen, that is the greatness of romance novels. However, there were some things that I was surprised to find in this book but in the hopes of not spoiling I will not share here. Overall an absolutely adorable novel and I hope to continue reading books by Jean Wilde in the future!

I wanted to read something a bit different from the usual genre that I had been my go to lately so I picked up this historical romance from the teasers that caught my eye. I am glad I gave it a go! Normally, not one I would just one-click but it really kept me enthralled and reading all the way until the end to find out what would happen and if that happily ever after would happen. I enjoyed how engaging Jean Wilde wrote these characters. I felt very much as if this was historically accurate but enjoyable and that is not easy to do for me personally as a reader. I will definitely be looking to see what else is available from Jean Wilde in The Scarlet Salon Series going forward!

This was a different auidlble for my normal listen. I enjoyed the narrotor voice. Betty and Jenny run a tea and sweet shop. This is such a sweet feel good listen.Teddy and Jenny time together is short they are so cute together. This book changes paces and the development of the story is paced really well.

A gentleman’s stipulation is a great historical romance. I like how Lady Victoria says what’s on her mind and the real vulnerability in the characters. The differences in their class and their dislike for each other makes them fight their attraction. An unfortunate event forces them together leading to an edge of your seat story. It was so good I had to go back and read the first books of the series.

In this story you will find yourself back in time where chariots are modes of transportation and men are only loyal to their king and country. A young Hittite finds himself with all those he holds dear gone and two of those were sabotage aimed for the king. I enjoyed the characters especially Hittite he is determined to find the truth. He is very brave and straightforward. I liked how the author plotted this story. It was very refreshing and entertaining. The flow was easy to follow and I found myself looking for more. I will definitely be checking out book two. The author shows you so much in this world and it is very appealing to those who just want to step away from reality for a few.

Absolutely loved this book. Jean Wilde gives a fresh fun take on historical romance while still being accurate to the times. Jane is a fun character that pulls you in and surprises you. Absolutely love how her character grows the more you read. Get this book and you will not be disappointed. The inside jokes made the story funny and relatable. Definitely would recommend to historic and comedy romance readers.

The Earl and the Peahen (The Scarlet Salon Book 5) by Jean Wilde. When I first started reading I was so set against anything historical but recently I’ve become a big fan. And this author is one of the reasons. I find myself always sinking right in and enjoying being lost in the pages of her books. This could definitely be read as a stand-alone but I do highly recommend them all. The characters were easy to connect with and the storyline was fun to read. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking. The author does a wonderful job of bringing readers inside the world she’s created and I loved every minute of it. Four big stars and highly recommended!

I absolutely loved this audiobook! I think it is probably one of the best that I have listened to so far. The narrator was brilliant, she really brought the story to life. The story was excellent, I love historical romance but usually in the early 1900’s so this was more modern for me but I loved it. The characters were brilliant, Jenny was a brilliant female lead, she made me laugh so many times. The time went so fast whilst listening because I was so engrossed in the story. I would highly recommend this audio book I thought it was absolutely brilliant!

At 25, Jane is older than many of the debutants of society, but her friend Isabelle for the season to find a husband. Jane doesn’t wish to marry just anyone like the older suitors who are close to her father’s age. She dreams of finding a love match. Through Isabelle and her husband Jane meets Alexander, the Earl of Norwich at a event. Soon after meeting Jane and Alexander have a conversation about his waistcoat, which Jane compares to getting attention like a male peacock! Jane and Alexander are wonderful characters who are brought together again when they are kidnapped by mistake. Their friendship begins in this awful setting. I’m sure you will fall in love with these two like I did.

I like historic romances, and I love reading them. The etiquette, the dresses, the balls, the dances, and romance brewing between all this – it has a charm in it. Jane Mayfield, already considered a old spinster, and is obliged to settle to an advantageous marriage to an older gentleman. But she is a romantic by heart and wants to marry for love. Her plain looks and sharp tongue do not help the already grim situation in any way. In London, she is introduced to Alexander Gordan, Earl of Norwich, handsome, dashing and arrogant. She compares him to a peacock who can attract a harem of peahens. They do not make much of a first impression on each other, but fate lands them together in a less pleasant situation. A mistaken identity gets them kidnapped and they develop a liking towards each other. They find a way to escape the kidnappers, but will the society spare them? How do they avoid the gossip and rumors which have already spread in the society? Will Alexander walk away from Jane or will they get their fairy tale romance together? I really liked the plot and the lead characters. After a long time, a breezy romance, which is a good read.

My Sweet GI Audio Book by T.L. Wainwright is a brilliant historical romance that has such an attention to detail. I loved listening to this book right from the start. The narrator has been picked perfectly for this book. They really captured the accents and the areas so well. Being from the area myself it really helped me picture everything in so much more detail and I felt like I was right there with the main character at all times.
I thought the story was good as well. It was more emotional than I expected it to be and there were a few times that I could have cried for Jenny. Her journey was such a difficult one and yet she was determined to do the best that she could. My only criticism about this book would be that the revelation toward the end seemed a bit far fetched. It feel like the author could have written it in a way that still achieved their goal but also made a little more sense. However this didn’t take away too much from how much I enjoyed this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this engaging and wonderfully written historical romance. Although book five in ‘The Scarlet Salon’ series by Jean Wilde it can be read as a standalone story. I loved the characters and I was swept along by the romantic storyline. The descriptive narrative really made both the era and the setting come to life and I felt fully immersed in the story. I was hooked from page one until the last page. The main characters, Jane Mayfield the plain spinster and the peacock dandy, Alexander Gordon, the Earl of Norwich, were both likeable and relatable. Although Jane can not compete with the young debutantes who have generous dowries she is determined that during her London season she will make an advantageous love match. Alexander Gordon is lonely and wants a family but he is also looking for love. Although Jane captures his attention she’s not the ideal match he had in mind. After a case of mistaken identity the couple end up imprisoned by a professional criminal. As Jane and Alexander are imprisoned together romance blossoms but once they are freed Jane wonders if their mutual attraction will last. The couple definitely have chemistry which came across in the writing and I was hoping they would get their happy ever after. I could not put this book down and I definitely recommend it.

I really enjoy historical romance and I loved this one. The author’s writing pulls you right in. This is the 5th book in The Scarlet Series but can be read as a stand alone.
This is Jane and Alexander’s story. Jane is determined to find love. She meets Alexander and it’s not love at first sight. They are total opposites and I had a LOL moment with the nickname she gave him. Moving forward they find themselves in a predicament that will throw them together and they grow closer.
Will they get home safely? Will they get a HEA or will they go back to the way things were?
Overall this was a great historical read. I really liked Jane and Alexander. If you’re looking for a read that pulls you right in, 1-click and start reading this one today. I look forward to reading more from this author.

T.L Wainwright wrote this beautiful love story. It is well written and will bring out the emotions we expect from a romance. I love the characters and how they came to be. This is a new author for me as well as a new genre. I usually run from all things Historical. I am happy I listened to this story, I will be looking into more from T.L Wainwright. Well Done! Historical Romance at its best.

The Earl and the Peahen (The Scarlet Salon Book 5) by Jean Wilde. This is such a good read. Its a wonderful Historical Romance and part of a series but can be read as a standalone. Its the story of Jane Mayfield who is as plain as her name implies. She is 25 and still not married but thinks maybe just maybe its not too late. Her mother is not good to her so when a friend offers to give her another send off she accepts. Alexander Gordon an Earl has is rich and thinks he’s got life by the tail but realizes he needs a more fulfilling life. He is as gorgeous as she is plain and he realizes she is not the most beautiful lady but being all alone is getting old and he wants a partner. A weird turn of circumstances causes them to get kidnapped together and spending that time together and working together to escape causes them to realize their true feelings for each other. Another hurdle will be after spending so much time together alone will they be forced to marry once they escape? Read The Earl and the Peahen to find out!
